On the DK Trio (spoon.2di vol. 73)

—In episode 9, you showed Cherry Blossom, Joe and Adam's high school days, but how did you capture those three's respective feelings when they met and leading into the present? Also, how were the trio's visual designs in the high school era created? Okouchi-san wrote that those three had this sort of time in their pasts, so if that was the case, wouldn't their attire and such have a delinquent vibe? That speculation expanded into my mental image of them. We weren't able to depict much of Sakurayashiki and Nanjo's relationship, but I figure they've been fighting since this time. I think their relationship probably hasn't changed at all between then and now. And the "extraordinary" thing that suddenly appeared in their ordinary everyday life was Adam. Meeting someone as gifted and charismatic as him, of course they would be affected by that. Anyone would end up admiring him, being attracted (drawn) to him. —Cherry Blossom was especially enchanted by him. He was, wasn't he? We didn't show what Nanjo thought of Adam at that time, but he surely must have felt very similarly. Exactly because it was when they were young, I think for the two of them, the impact meeting Adam had on them was huge. —I think a lot of viewers were just as charmed by Adam in high school as those two were, but were there any points about his design you were especially particular about? Because Adam is someone Sakurayashiki admires (longs for) so much, I wanted his design to be overflowing with charisma. Also, the white gakuran. A normal person couldn't wear that. (lol) And Sakurayashiki and Nanjo wear blazers to differentiate them from Adam. Since Sakurayashiki in particular always wears Japanese-style clothing in the present, I also wanted him to wear western-style clothes as a student. For Nanjo, there was the length of his hair, and I wanted him to seem like a fresh young man who was suited to sports. Chiba-san designed all three of them to show their muscles less than in the present, but that "perfect dosage" was wonderful, so please look at the concept art when it's released!

And then it’s just miles and miles of bare, toned legs ending in hideous fuzzy socks covered in emojis, which presumably Miya is to blame for. He’s punch-in-the-gut stunning: sexy and beautiful and so very silly. “Madre di Dio,” Kojiro mutters, and Kauru snorts derisively, reflexively, the way he always does when Kojiro breaks out the Italian. It doesn’t manage to halt what comes out next, unstoppable. “I love you.” Kauru blinks at him, bleary, then yawns so hard his jaw audibly cracks. “Me getting hurt freaked you out more than I gave it credit for, didn’t it?” Kauru shuffles around and flumps down on the couch, throwing his feet up on the coffee table next to Kojiro’s leg. He’s wearing unfairly tiny blue pajama shorts with little sleeping sheep on them, and Miya probably can’t be blamed for that. He knocks his foot against Kojiro’s thigh. “I love you too, banana brain, but don’t get used to hearing it.” It’s an out, an escape route. Kauru is sleepy and slightly concussed and hadn’t caught the meaning in the declaration, and it would be so easy to leave it at this; an uncommon but pleasant exchange of affection between dear friends. Kojiro finds, to his own surprise, that he has no interest in escaping.

*one of the reasons I can't actually bring myself to publish fic for stories set in non-English speaking places is that it's SO easy to have them make no sense. For example, I know very little about Japanese, but I know that a lot of languages have different words for different types of love. So there's a very good chance that this doesn't work at all. One of the reasons I love Yuumori; I am very English-speaking and I'm less likely to make myself look ridiculous writing about Brits. 😅

Dimensions of the Wind -Langa Ver.- (English Translation)

The Japanese covers of Langa, Reki and Adam's character songs by their voice actors have dramatically different lyrics to the English versions that played in the show, sometimes in very interesting ways, and while there have been other English fan translations I wanted to attempt my own. kagakuro canon?

okay, this post will be a compilation of evidence and arguments on why i actually think kagami and kuroko is a canon pair.

disclaimer: they're not even my fav ship (it's midotaka), i'm really doing this cause i can't stop thinking about how canon it seems... (and cause it's fun)

right, so...let's start with the basics, shall we?

their relationship

well, i haven't watched many sports animes but kuroko no basket follows a classic plot that we all know:

two main protagonists that don't know each other enter a random and medium team, both with a goal. one is a prodigy and the other one is really bad at first sight but when combined with someone else they really show their potential.

yeah and in the end that "someone else" is mainly the other one, obviously. they always have that "we complete each other" talk and that's the whole plot.

we can see that in haikyuu, yes (and i've only watched a season and a half by pure pressure), but in knb we see that too.

kagami's the prodigy and kuroko is the "weak" one, their goal is to play against all of the members of the generation of miracles and win. they can only do that together, that's the start of everything!

in knb's case the plot is much more interesting than that, but it is still what the anime revolves around.

them being together is what makes them strong. they need each other to get in their best forms and they will stay together. kagami's the light and kuroko's the shadow. they're complementary.

i'm sorry, but that's a gay plot. - really, i've only watched sports animes with a canonically gay main characters, like sk8 the infinity and yuri! on ice, or with this fking sus idea that is litteraly the plot of the anime (i WILL say that it's even gayer than the gay ones. IT'S THE MAIN IDEA).

but that's only what i think, right? so let's proceed to actual arguments and evidence.

first things first...

them and the girls.

kuroko and kagami both show little to no interest in any girl in the anime, while all of the other seirin members and a lot of other characters do constantly.

momoi for example;

she's in love with kuroko and makes it pretty clear. on the other side, he also makes his disinterest clear, still treating her well cause he's a decent person, of course, but always letting her know he doesn't like her back.

in kagami's case, while every other seirin guy totally drools over her - even junpei, who has shown to have feelings towards riko - he almost ignores her existence. moreover, he's even judged by the others for 'not knowing how to treat girls' in one of their few interactions.

and you could say it's like aomine; momoi's even his type but he just doesn't like her. it's a normal thing. they care for each other and see one another like brothers, there's no romantic feelings. kagami and kuroko could just be the same towards her.

but that's why i have more arguments, obviously.

before that tho, there's alex too. there's nothing much to say since anyone would be uncomfortable in being kissed out of nowhere by someone in their 30s especially when youre a minor. and kagami does, even tho he's already used to it.

i just think it's weird for the author to make this much fan service towards her, making her be naked around his house and stuff, and make him, the main 'victim' of that fanservice inside the anime, be uncomfortable (even riko blushed when she kissed her).

we all know that it's not only "how americans are seen in japan", it's pure fanservice. it's already problematic. he isn't trying to make it less problematic by making kagami uncomfortable, that's just how kagami is.

the character's bible.

now we're starting to get somewhere.

for those who don't know, kuroko no basuke characte's bible is a book that contains canon data about the characters. we also have some interviews, with diferent questions that are answered by the characters.

one of those questions is what their types of girl is...

kuroko: gentle people

kagami: stable gir……person……

kise: a girl who won't tie him down

midorima: older

aomine: girls with big bust

murasakibara: tall girl (if taller than me, then forget it)

the only ones that dont especify gender, even tho asked for type of > girl < it's kuroko and kagami.

you may think midorima is included but actually not (still have my own headcanon ofc but)...

think of it like asking someone for their favorite type of fruit. "sour" is an ok anwer, you don't need to specify saying "sour fruit". but answering you like "sour food" instead it's another thing, it's weird... like you purposely said it to indirectly say you don't like fruit or you simply like all types of sour food.

it was a weid example but y'all understand my point, right?

it's even more weird since kagami was going to say girl, but hesitated. like...why? why would he hesitate and then change it to "person" for no fking reason? sorry, it's too sus for me.

ok. then there's the relationship pages. kuroko and kagami's (obviously) to be more specific.

kuroko's:

aomine: old partner

kagami: current partner

momoi: girlfriend?

kise: friend

murasakibara: friend?

midorima: this person is difficult to deal with.

kagami's:

himuro: brotherlike

kuroko: partner

midorima: he annoys me

aomine: i’ll get revenge

kise: 「kagami-chi」 !?

okay, this doesn't prove anything by itself, and as is writen "old partner" (wow i cried) in aomine on kuroko's one we know that this means partner as in basket of course.

also! don't mind the "girlfriend?" in momoi, she refers herself as kuroko's girlfriend (that's why it's there and with a question mark) but that's all. it's canon that he doesn't like her, like i said, and they don't end up together. (ofc it's okay if you ship them duh- i'm literally doing a whole blog on kagakuro, i'm not the one to judge)

i just think it's a great addition, i couldn't leave it out of here and it's also SO cute even platonicly, c'mon.

and it also adds to the idea that they "complete each other" as in the sports anime plot.

people who they get along the best in their current team:

kuroko: kagami

kagami: i spend most of my time with kuroko

kise: kasamatsu, but he kicks me

midorima: takao, but he's my servant

aomine: sakurai, because his bento is delicious

okay, we've seen a lot of stuff now, but let's go to the thing that actually made me wanna do this post...

i was rewatching knb normaly until this happened:

translation: "i know one! they're so cute as a couple."

at first, i just laughed and imediatly took this picture to show my friends how canon they are (as a joke at the time). i was using my computer to watch and for some reason i can't connect my netflix account on it, so i was watching in a pirated website.

in this types of site, the subtitles are often translated by fans and since they are made by non profecionals, they always have a lot of mistranslations and typos. some fans like to purposely chance the translations too to make it more funny in some situations.

so after a while i figured i HAD to know if it was real cause i didn't remember to have seen this at the first time i watched.

i even took notes of what episode that was to check later in my tv's netflix, in both my language and english subtitles... but i am impatient so i did my research.

in case you still can't understand what izuki's saying: "aww, so cute! wait, they're not a couple...!"

yeah, the translation is not exactly the same, but just look at this, seriously. at least we can say izuki ships them, lol. that's more than something, right?

i'll still check the subtitles and the dubs when i can just to know what it's said there, but yeah...just...look.

also, there’s this scene in the middle of the seirin x yosen game where kagami says to kuroko: “besides, between my past with tatsuya and my future with you, it’s obvious which is more important” AND IT’S SO CUTE this scene lives in my mind rent free i love them so much even platonically-

A rant about SK8 the Infinity!!

Something that SK8 benefits from is that Reki is the main character and not literally anyone else. When you compare Reki's ability to skate VS let's say Langa, Reki is a notably worse skater than Langa. Out of the main characters, [Cherry, Joe, Miya, Shadow, Langa, and Reki] Reki is the lowest level skater out of all of them, and he stays that way the entire time. Sure, he bests himself, he improves, BUT, he never exceeds his peers. That's something that more animes and shows in general should address, the battle of self improvement based on self. You can improve without having to be better than other people. Reki still gets better at skating, just because he doesn't become better than his peers it doesn't mean that he doesn't become better than himself.

In other animes, lets use Haikyuu as an example, Hinata, the main character, is not the best on his team, but he isn't the worst, that title going to Yamaguchi, and he inherently is good at the game because of his jump, and he ends up exceeding his teammates, pretty much all of them. But that isn't the case with SK8, and that helps SK8 stand out against other animes. Something I've noticed in most sports animes is that the main character is inherently good at the sport that they are doing, and they have something about them that makes them stand out, like Hinata's jump, but Reki doesn't stand out like that. Having the story follow someone who is alongside the character who has that "special thing" about them [Langa being a snowboarder] is so fucking interesting, AND THEY ADDRESS IT IN THE SHOW. There are other animes that follow the main character format that SK8 does, but none of them address it in the way that SK8 does. Like in BNHA, at the beginning of the show Deku is the lowest in his class [which doesn't make logical sense but that's a rant for another time] and the show is like, "oh this is his inspiration to improve" but it doesn't mention the real mental turmoil that would come along with that. SK8 realistically shows how that would fuck up someone's head especially since Reki introduced Langa to skating.

I love Sk8 it's definitely up there for me :]
