Some things from the Sarah J Maas Kingdom of Ash event

Sarah confirmed she basically writes fan fiction of her characters and spent a lot of time, especially in collage writing Rowealin smut, including bathroom sex and she’s written angsty Rowan chopping wood.

She also talked a little bit about World of Throne of glass which will be set after Kingdom of Ash, she hasn’t decided how far in the future it will be yet, maybe a couple of years, maybe ten? And the premise is that after the war Aelin asks a scholar to write about the history of the war, who will interview the characters and get their first hand accounts and compile it in a book with letters, travel logue’s, maps ect and it will include updates of where everyone is at “who’s doing what” and “who’s doing who” lol. And it’s going to be writen like it’s a book that exists in the ToG world and would be shelved in the library of Ornyth.

She described Crescent City as “sexy, bantery and fun” and is like 800 pages of banter. She also mentioned how much she’s enjoyed working on it and it’s a real passion project.

She also said that she’ll never truely leave behind the universe of ToG, she just needs a rest from the series for a while. But has characters she wants to write more about and has stories she’s daydreamed about. So you never know in a couple of years when she has more time she might return to ToG.

At a party for the Tog and Acotar characters she said Aedion and Cassian would be the party hosts, Dorian and Amren would be the one’s eating all the snacks. Aelin and Azriel would be the one’s cutting up the dance floor. She said Aelin probably wouldn’t be very good at it, but she’d commit and would totally do the worm. Azriel would get really drunk and everyone would just be like “WTF” because it turns out he’s an amazing dancer and is probably part of a secret dance group. Elide and Nesta would be the one’s in the corner reading a book. Nesta reading her smutty romance novels and Elide with Lorcan just standing next to her scowling, making sure all the men stay away from her while Manon would be sitting next to her also making sure no one came near Elide.

She also said out of all her books Kingdom of Ash means the most to her because it reminds her of her 11 year old self and her dreams of becoming a writer one day. And that KoA is a culmination of the journey she’s taken since then to get to where she is today. And she’s really proud of herself for what she’s achieved.

Kam Makes Aelin’s Dress

I’ve decided to document this process. So here I go. If you hate threads, blacklist the tag: “kam makes aelin’s dress”. If you do like threads… you’re in for a treat. Without further ado…

First and foremost, here’s a SUPER rough design of the pattern I want to do. I also can’t sew for shit so I will be painting a pre-made dress. Once I get the actual dress will I be solidifying a final design.

I’ve also realized that I can’t get the flow that I want while drawing on the dress when it’s flat… which means I need a mannequin. The whole point of this thing was to not spend $800 on this dress and mannequins are not cheap (and they’re all teeny tiny bodies with a-cup titties)! Who knew!? So, I snagged my sisters into helping me.

Anybody with PTSD, anxiety, or prone to panic attacks, DO NOT DO THIS. It’s very constricting, but my sissies got me through it and made me feel comfortable.

I made a mannequin torso my size. All it needs now is a stand.

Some paint that will hopefully be shiny enough to make Amren envious.

Tomorrow, the hunt begins for a dress… I think my grandma is coming with me?

So at the Melbourne show Sarah was talking about how she knew Rowan and Aelin would end up together when she was writing it and she said and I quote:

“I would finish writing for the day and then open up this secret file on my computer and just write hardcore dirty Rowan and Aelin smut. So. I’m pretty sure I know what Anon was referring to. Here’s a transcript of what Susan Dennard said on her Insta Stories if you happened to miss it.

“On a similar note, because I kept encountering this lately, it is not up to the publisher – or the bookseller – to set event rules. The author decides how many books they’re gonna sign, how they’re gonna sign, all that stuff, so stop blaming all these people… I just feel so bad for publicists and booksellers who get thrown under the bus when it’s not their decision to cap a line. It’s pretty clear she’s talking about the KINGDOM OF ASH tour here. I imagine it’s all over social media right now – what with fans most likely complaining that there weren’t enough tickets, etc. etc. Although, in saying that, I could be wrong and it might be totally unrelated. It adds up though, and also seems to back up what a previous Anon said about SJM not wanting to interact with her fans anymore. Of course, SJM is completely entitled to not want to do signing lines anymore…but most YA authors seem to enjoy it.

SJM Book Event @ Schuler Books

It was my first time to one and I was a little late so I had to rush to get my signed copy of Tower of Dawn and stamp my EOS and ACOMAF,

But it was really cool. Sarah was funny, making lewd jokes and cursing. She highly recommended the movie IT "if you have a phobia of clowns or are not a fan of traumatic things happening to children, then don't watch it. But I loved it." It was grand!

She told us her grandmother's touching story and that Yrene was sorta based off of her, just a little.

A power she would love to have was shape shifting so she could "turn in a velociraptor and scare little children"

She didn't know she wanted Lysandra to be a shape shifter until she heard the song "Smack My Bitch Up" by The Prodigy. There was a part in the middle of it where she pictured Lysandra running at a man, shifting and tackling him to the ground and ripping out his throat in slo-mo!

She said maybe "never say never" to having a coloring book made of just the smutty scenes, an xxx adult coloring book. She said she wasn't sure Charlie Bowater would draw them for her this time if that was the case. And two older ladies were whopping and hollering beside me. I hope to be them one day. Lmfao!

She told us that she wrote the first 20,000 words of TOD while on healing steroids. Novellas are usually 30,000 words long. And she was only on chapter three and that she was just getting started!

She does not have something against wedding scenes. Jane Austen never write a wedding scene and she said "okay, I will too." She did write a wedding scene between Rhys and Feyre [insert awwww] but it was just to sweet and cheesy that she decided against. She might however put it in an extra in one of the upcoming novels "we'll see how nice I'm feeling."

THE WALL SCENE WILL BE IN THE ACOTAR SPINOFF NOVELLA. CONFIRMED. SJM CONFIRMED THAT THE WALL SCENE WILL HAPPEN. EVERYONE SCREAMED AND SJM SAID, "To everyone who screamed and is excited by that, I love you pervs!"

I loved it all and will definitely go to more events like this in the future!!

Some notes from the questions portion of tonight’s event!

Inspiration for Rhys is not her husband!!! They are both tall and handsome with dark hair, but rhys and Feyre’s bond *is* inspired by their relationship. Rhys also walked into her head like aelin and became Sarah’s second husband.

Lorcan vs Cassian, we win and they draw. They would fight to a stalemate then go get a beer and bond over lady problems. Then likely go to the Spring Court and start trouble.

Rhys vs Fenrhys are equally attractive, depends on preference.

Jamie (from Outlander) and Rhys would be friends but would be constantly in silent competition with each other.

She is more like feyre on her quiet days, more like aelin on most days, but identifies most with Fleetfoot.

Her deadlines are plotted out for years, so she has no option but to sit and write. Writing is a muscle that needs to be used and built. Her advice to aspiring writers is to not listen to the people who tell you to write something “serious or a real book.” If someone says “you can’t” tell them “watch me,” at least in your head. Keep your goal as your focus. Find the time and write. Do it!!!! Treat it seriously. She would sit down everyday and write, even if it’s only 10 minutes a day. It’s the only way to get it done.

Each spinoff will be a stand alone novel and follow a different pairing in each. They will all eventually be connected in the end. One might be a snow queen retelling. One might be a Russian/swan lake retelling but at this point she won’t give more details than that yet.

TOD runs parallel to EOS, it’s a “meanwhile on the southern continent.” Wrote 20,000 words in the first day and was chater 4. 193,000 words later and it’s the same length as EOS. The timeline lines up perfectly. Nesryn, Chaol, and Irene plotlines and pov. TOD never feels like work and is as close to her heart as HOF was. Is excited every time she reads it and edits. She was excited to expand on the TOG world. The southern continent is highly influenced by the Mongolian empire. She is a huge G. Khan fangirl.

READ TOD BEFORE FINAL TOG. Major game changers and reveals, it all weaves together.

Editor who read TOD for review hated Chaol going into TOD, but she came out loving Chaol after. SJM loves the journey and she cried a lot working on the book.

She reccomends Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Post ACOWAR read the Fever series (blonde southern girl tries to solve her sister’s murder). Star Touched Queen.

Her patronus (she wanted hers to be a velociraptor), she got an akami (sp?), the feathery-serpant creature from fantastic beasts.
