What if Obi-Wan had gone with Anakin to save his mother?

Anakin is broken, shattering into thousands of pieces before his eyes, utterly at a loss for what to do or how to feel as he's holding his mothers lifeless form and crying for all he's worth. Obi-wan can feel his anguish, his fear, his anger, his torment as his mind fights for what it should do versus what it wants to do; to make them pay. He has a front row seat to the painful display of his padawan crumbling before him. He can't let this stand. He was only following yoda's orders, his training. They were wrong. All of them. How could they deny the will of the child of the force when they would not do so to her. His padawan is conflicted. Scared. Obi-wan is meant to protect him, guide him, keep him safe and he has failed so spectacularly. He can feel them walking around outside the small hunt. Living. Breathing. Putting their children to bed. That will not stand. They will pay. By his own hand. It is the least he could do for Anakin. Cue qui-gon screaming no in the force, but it's at obi-wan

Hello there! I am so grateful you sent this - I’ve been sitting on it all day because I opened my long forgotten doc and love the heck out of the two little snippets I have written there and really want to do it right. Ramble below the cut

Here’s the long story short:

Obi-wan joins Dooku after the arena and the duel at Geonosis - at first as a desperate bid to save Anakin and hopefully to get intel and stop the war that's just started before his eyes before it gets worse, but he gets too deep in. He tries to play it both ways, to not have the dark side consume him, but so much has happened and Dooku gets in his head and after so long he can’t maintain the balance anymore and falls completely

AotC events still happen to Anakin as they do in the film (up until Obi-Wan leaves with Dooku after he’s been de-limbed) but he doesn’t fall because he's determined to stop the war and get Obi-Wan back (and also he doesn't marry Padme because he's got to go FIND OBI-WAN RIGHT NOW - at first he, and everyone else, thinks he’s been taken as hostage)

I think Obi-Wan gets conflicted/starts to come back when he manages to capture Anakin at some point during the war, and Anakin starts getting through to him. Obi-Wan realizes he can't kill him, but also that he doesn't want him to join him as a Sith. He still wants better for him.

The reason I haven’t written this yet is I wanted to avoid a giant sprawling plotty narrative but also…I’m not entirely sure what I want to trim away from it.
