But still, he was the COOL teacher. Right? 

          “Does that mean you’re not gonna end up in summer school?” He’s half teasing, half curious – brow already raised in curiosity. “Lemme guess, side of underage drinking, and doing shit you’re not supposed to be doing.” Rebellion was a kicker, especially when your father was the deputy.  “Raisin’ some hell I hope? Got two months away from this shit hole, you best make ‘em count.”

After a long day of sorting items and distributing them, Tristan sighed and sat on one of the many stairwells with a bottle of water. Truthfully, she had no clue what was happening with the rest of the people living there. Getting to know one another wasn’t atop priority as far as she knew. 

She rolled the noisy plastic between self-manicured hands, enjoying the way it echoed off of the walls. It wasn’t until the rhythmic noise was interrupted by the sound of footsteps that she turned her head to see the young man. Tristan had only ever seen him around. She’d not spoken to him. 

Standing, she got up and stepped down to ground level to kneel. Wasn’t that what she was supposed to do when faced with someone of his status in the group? “...I’m sorry for the noise.” It was one of the few apologies she’d ever given in her life.
