So someone reblogged this video of me from 2015 - almost exactly nine years ago now - singing my version of It All Goes Around from @annleckie’s Imperial Rach series, thereby reminding me that it existed. Which is kind of delightful, both as a memory in its own right and because I’ve been on testosterone for almost two years, and I no longer sound anything like this. So I thought it would be fun to post an updated version showing what I sound like now; because tumblr is a hellsite, however, I can’t add video to a reblog, so this will have to do 😁

I’m sorry there aren’t more options, I only had 10 spaces or I would’ve included more. I tried to go with the most common and obviously with groups!
What counts for singing is up to you. I think most people sing some amount, but you can decide if yours counts or not. The reason for this is because you can teach yourself an instrument, so not requiring lessons or anything for either instruments or singing.
If you want to learn an instrument, especially if you don’t currently play any, I would love to know if you shared!

love my voice changing, very gender, very cool! but it absolutely sucks that i have to relearn how to sing along to all my favourite songs from scratch because now i cant hit my usual high notes anymore and i'm not used to singing low at all so it's very awkward! And it keeps changing too! can't wait for my voice to settle in somewhere so i can actually find the right range and keep it :/

Had my first session with the speech therapist today to lower my voice a lil bit and she's super fucking nice :')
#Personal#T didn't lower my voice as much as I'd like#She was super nice about me being nonbinary and about getting exactly what I want which is to have more control over my voice#Eg. When I sing and laugh#So it doesn't go as high#Super happy abt that!

Tbh the real reason i need to get on t is to find out how good i can really sound singing ghost songs
#context: i have a fairly weird voice for an afab person so i sound weird singing most songs but pretty good singing ghost#ghost bc#ghost band#ghost the band#transgender#trans man#i know most people worry about losing their singing ability when they go on t but personally i think ill probably sound objectively better#like as already stated i have a pretty weird voice for a girl#like when i did theater in highschool they had to cast me in exclusively male roles#cause i had objectively the lowest voice out of the cast that wasnt like one of the two cis guys that did play#yeah not to brag but even though im a tranny i was pretty much ranked 3rd guy in my schools play#i pretty much already got tranny voice so im hoping t can push me over the edge to actually sounding like a dude#i already have the breathing and projecting down for it soooo#god i wanna be on t so bad

Okay so I could not sing before T and I still can't, but I'm absolutely stoked at how I'm able to hit much lower notes than before
#not to brag ehehehehe i'm not even 2 months on t and there's a noticeable difference#also not knowing how to sing but doing it anyway is punk#my voice is like..... it's really brassy actually. i can feel it rumble in my neck and in my ribs#i was raspy before and usually spoke in my chest (rather than my head/nose). it's just so rumbly now#i'm wondering if i'm just going to sound like gravel when it fully drops lmfao#like my voice is going to be SO rough and won't match my wee face#i am growing a moustache too though. like i was a little sparse before but now it's a proper rat moustache#i'm in the rat bastard phase#................. i want to be able to growl like damiano david. and to do a proper death growl pleeeease

I'm kinda jealous of people who've said that being on T hasn't changed their voices much. I'm unemployed so the stuff i do keep myself from going insane is really important to me...one of those things being singing.
And like, before anyone says anything, i knew about voice changes on T. But it's different for everyone, and I wouldnt know exactly how it would affect my voice till I started.
And well, I seem to have completely lost my mid to high range 🙁. It's not even just out of tune or something, nothing comes out except crackly squeaky noises and almost every song I love to sing to is in that mid range.
So while i love the deeper talking voice, i am pretty depressed right now about losing my regular singing voice :(

theres something so beautiful about listening to both early and more recent music by trans artists, hearing how their voices have changed throughout their transitions.... especially comparing my own voice changes to theirs. knowing we've grown and become ourselves at the same time, even without knowing each other... it rules
