Again, I can’t actually claim to have produced this in direct response to the prompt, but this is a recent piece of my work depicting, for the trigger “sword lore” the Bodhisattva Manjushri, the Soft Voiced Prince, who is the personification of enlightened wisdom and clarity. His blazing sword is not a weapon but the razor of sudden realisation of the nature of reality that slices through delusion and severs suffering at the root. He is also regarded in Mahayana countries as the protector of artists so I already love Him anyway. This was another piece of work that fits with the trigger “harvest customs. I wanted to make an offering at the end of summer to celebrate the things that keep us alive. I chose apples as food and set out twelve of them one for each month of the year, like a circular calendar but also like a clock. I bought beautiful gold ribbon and wove it round the apples in a shape of a pentagram with the top of the star at 12, then again with the top point at 1 and 2 and so forth around the whole clock overlaying the shape on top of itself 12 times. My dyslexic brain couldn’t imagine what the finished design would be as it grew but it was about trusting the process to reveal the sacred geometry of interrelationships and time passing. The apples were held on 6 inch nails and the juice from them smelled beautiful to me (and to an increasing number of autumn wasps as I worked.
