What to do if Durarara over

I'm going to assume you've finished the anime and have not gone into anything else Naritaverse wise

So! You can read the novels. Since they're officially licensed by yen press, you can buy the soft cover books or get them as an ebook / kindle from barnes and noble or amazon. I don't really endorse this but I'm sure if you do enough digging around you can find old, still available, free translations like anni_fiesta who did a lot of translating back in the day. Here's the link to their Index of Translation. I still use it since it's the only place I know that has the white day story translated and it's one of my favorites (For Kadota Related reasons haha), plus a couple of other side stories.

(I think the internet archives have the novels if you do some poking around but for Narita Please Write SH 5 reasons, I'll ask you to dig those up lmao)

Speaking of Side stories, Kazinha-726 translated a bunch of drrr side stories But since they haven't updated in a while, you need to change the links from kaedesan721 to their new URL kazinha-726. I'll directly link what you need here

Izaya Spin Off Translations I don't think these are officially licensed for translation so it's fine for me to link. This is the story of Izaya now that he's been forced out of Ikebukuro, and there's two books as of writing this.

Durarara Gaidens It's some gaidens, but It's also a handful of translated convos from 3 way stand of alley relay, the links use that kaedesan721 link, so while I won't be fixing all those links for you, I can at least link the tag for all of them here. you can probably find audio for this game on youtube, though I'm not sure anyone's like.... fully translated? perhaps? Which ALSO reminds me of the relay manga

Durarara Epitome of Eighteen Histories Written along side the release of season 2, we've got some stories involving Kazane Kinomiya, who's the half sister of Shinra, and a reporter. They have all 18 listed there nicely EXCEPT the Erika and Walker Link is a little messed up, and if you search through the posts you can get to it but anyway here's the link to that story specifically

There's ALSO MiniDura which are little gag comics of the durarara cast in chibis! there should be 4 books as of me writing this. Godspeed on finding translations they seem to be around.... but this post is long and I'm scared of losing it so I'll update later on how many chapters there are so you don't miss any, though I'm seeing up to 10 in my cursory search.

Shizuo, Izaya, and Celty are also in uh.... Dengeki Bunko's fighting Climax, which you might be able to find some stuff on on youtube. but since it's Dengeki Bunko you also have other series... I can only remember A Certain Magical Index / A Certain Scientific Railgun / the other titles in this series as being part of it whoops.

So you've done all that, what do you do next?

Well Narita has other series, like Baccano! which had an anime before DRRR did, which is 16 episodes. Since Funimation lost the license back in like... 2012 it's not officially uh licensed for viewing anywhere, so uh. wink wink. message me if you need more help here.

There's ALSO the novels which... there are so many more than there are for drrr, also available to purchase, though these are hardcovers! Last time I checked they had.... around 20 translated? Since I'm more drrr side I'd have to ask about fan translations and if I can still find them around. But again I don't really condone it since we want more written you know?

Narita also has a couple other series, but the one that's my favorite besides DRRR is Etsusa Bridge (It's pronounced Essa Bridge don't make the same mistake I did. )

I had one called 'Release' that was all about Helen dying and choosing to go which was pretty angsty. 'She Had Him at Hello' is also gonna have a more angsty ending because canon is angsty when it comes to Helen and Nikola...

Hehe. Most of them? I generally prefer happy endings because life is dark and depressing enough all on its own... I mean I did a whole series where the central premise was giving Helen and Nikola the happy ending the writers weren't willing to offer...

Honestly, not since joining the Sanctuary fandom. The only really awful, vitrolic hate I recieved was in a different fandom (nothing quite like a gang of middle aged women telling you that you're awful to start off your writing journey!!)

Lol. Yes. Most kinds. I'm new to the kinkier stuff, but provided it is consensual, I'm game.

Most of my stuff is romantic-y though. I like to write the tender stuff, with the occasional rough and tumble threaded throughout.

Haven't done one yet! Though I'm not adverse to it - my brain just doesn't work that way.

Description, probably. And build up maybe? I'm pretty good at stretching out the anticipation...

Fight sequences. I know in theory they're no different to sex scenes, but a lot of the smut I write is about the feeling rather than the action.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I used to do a fair bit of it, but I've found ways around it now so that I don't have to struggle with grammar I'm absolutely going to get wrong. The only exceptions for me are when I want to use a single word (like when Helen meets one of Nikola's sisters and she says 'sestra') where translation is clear, or when a character is trying to hide something from another. But even then I'll normally not use more than a word or two.

Well, my current favourite is 'Stupid' because it really was my first go at writing some proper kinky stuff and I'm pretty pleased with how chapter 2 turned out, even if I'm still a bit nervous about posting it because it's more intense than anything I've written before.

I havent said before, cause I dont really make posts like this, but if you want to see Pokémon as a series Get Better, You have to stop buying into it. Let me explain...

Pokémon has been doing the "1 step forwards, 2 steps back" thing when it comes to almost every modern game since Sun and Moon. They get rid of welcome changes to the series, replace it with something else that serves as a one time gimmick, all while crunching the employees.

With Scarlet and Violet having Just released Not even 3 years after SWSH, chances are you will witness Firsthand how thrown together these games are. They're practically coming apart at the seams.

Dont get me wrong, the devs do deserve all the credit to the work they put out. But it just doesnt meet expectations. It barely even reaches them. Visually, SV, is very poorly optimised, and the design direction for the games style has Drastically changed since SWSH, when that game had fantastic art direction (not graphics. The style itself)

Why? Crunch time. CEOs trying to push out a game every 2 years, seldom lets the love these developers have for the series to be fully baked. This is a huge problem when it comes to the quality of this series in the long run.

When you say "yeah, its not perfect, but it still looks fun!", "These games look lackluster but the gameplay is good!", "The story is great, but the game runs poorly and I encounter a glitch every 20 minutes. Its fine though!" This is part of the problem!! If the CEO sees that people will still buy their product because of a Brand name, it will just incentivise the devs getting worse and worse treatment, because as long as something is labeled with "Pokémon", no matter how poor the quality compared to previous entries, will sell. The CEOs will see this and be like, "oh! People bought and enjoyed Scarlet and Violet despite its flaws! Maybe that means we can get away with mistreating our workers more for our next title!"

As a long time Pokémon fan, and an aspiring game dev myself, this is mortifying. The decision to settle for less, because 1 aspect of a game is tolerable, is absolutely terrifying to me.

It takes more than just 1 good aspect to make a good game. Good games, for example, old gen pokémon games consist of Good Aspects (good art direction, story, gameplay, polish, music) all around. It doesnt skimp out on one or two, It tries its best to go the full distance to make the players time feel worthwhile.

But its not like that anymore! I constantly see people settling for less with this series as new games come out, with less and less of those aspects that make a good game. SWSH gameplay and story was lacking, it coasted along on art direction and music, and people still bought it, because those are pretty important aspects to having a good game. Not required of course, but should at least tried to meet a standard. Scarlet and Violet is pushing this concept further. Scarlet and Violet, as they are at release, lacks EVERY aspect besides story and music. This doesnt constitute for a very worthwhile experience in my opinion, especially not for the price tag of $60.

"You're complaining just to complain! You sound like a genwunner!" Im sorry for having standards of what to expect in a Pokémon game, and having standards for what the devs have to go through to make them?

I care about this series and its lifespan. I care about it a lot. But seeing poor business practice affecting the product, the games, itself, I dont want to buy into it. Im not settling for letting these devs get increasingly shittier conditions just because I convinced their CEO that i will still buy when their workers are suffering and the product is stunted. Money talks, and im not talking anymore. I cant stand the poor treatment anymore because it leaks into the series itself. I dont understand how people can just... let that happen. How they can settle for the devs being treated like this. How they can say "yeah, the devs were treated horribly while working on this and it shows, but I still find it fun!" and feel okay with that? If anything that just shows me that people will be complacent Consumers if it benefits them in the slightest, because its "new" and a "breath of fresh air". It just appeals to having instant gratification.

IF you want a new Pokémon experience, but dont want to shell out $60 for a buggy product that devs were crunched to make, There are Plenty of options!

Consider Fangames (Pokémon Insurgence, Pokémon Wilds, etc.) ! These are games that have taken more than 5+ years of development, and a lot of passion goes into making them. Not to mention, theyre free! Just as good, if not better, from an experience perspective.

Support creators by showing them that you care about their treatment. Dont buy into something and settle for less just because its new. The games industry is already tough enough on creators as it stands right now. Save your $60. Dont show them that you dont care about their devs as long as you get a product. They deserve better, and so do you.

Hater mode, engage: (negative Harry Potter takes incoming)

The Harry Potter game thing is funny to me specifically because I am like... THE generation that should be obsessed with it. I quite literally grew up reading them and I did develop a significant amount of my early reading comprehension skills from them. Then, at a certain point around when the 5th book came out, I realized that I genuinely could not fucking care less about them. I still finished them because people slapped the books in front of me as soon as they came out and I had nothing better to do, but about the halfway mark of the series left me thinking "what the fuck is all this for?" and never provided an answer.

Today, I exclusively think about Harry Potter when someone else makes me. I try not to hold any active derision to people who still like it, but again, if I, a fantasy-loving guy who grew up as the books were coming out, have literally ZERO attachment to them, I just... don't get it. They're just a blank spot to me. I could tell you a good chunk of what happens in them, but none of it mattered to me.

The point here is that a... secondary acquaintance who's like 2-3 years older than me is apparently a HUGE HP fan, to paraphrase "because her childhood sucked and that's how she got through", and is very excited about the new game. I genuinely just... how? I know you've moved on, read better books--her favorite author is Terry Pratchett for christ's fucking sake--so how the fuck are you still latched on to this? I mean, hell, I still have rose-colored glasses for Eragon, but I'm not going BACK to it! If they released an Eragon game next year I'd probably sue the publishers for emotional assault and battery!

After about the age of 13, I realized that Harry Potter had one of the absolute lamest takes on magic possible and that I could find more interesting and cool magic in just about any other children's fantasy. By that time, I was already moving on to YA and adult fantasy, so HP just... disappeared from my brain. It's genuinely unfathomable to me that people actually hung on to it. Again, I get rose-colored glasses, but aren't you done? Aren't you tired of hearing all the same names and places for over a decade since the series finished? Man, sure, keep writing the fanfiction and making the art or whatever, but... can we cool it on the multimillion dollar franchise resuscitation? Can we just this once not let the nostalgia take over?

You may notice I didn't mention Rowling's name. This is because she's a wretched and broken waste of oxygen; other people have written more eloquent breakdowns of the generalized and focused bigotry in her ideas and in her books than I can.

The point of this post is just to express disbelief that anyone still manages to find $60-70 worth of care for Harry Potter anymore. Not going to tag it because 1: go ahead and have your fun, 2: I'm juuuuuuust smart enough to not actively dance in a burning building.

Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 - Volume 1

I'm doing things slightly out of order here, but I'd like to get to all the side stuff that came out prior to Tamers before I move on from Adventure. This is the first Digimon manga that came out (aside from C'mon Digimon which is contained within this release) so it'll be interesting to see those humble beginnings.

Ch.1

-So I guess this is some alternate universe version of season 1? (Or maybe like a beta version?) The plot feels a little similar to Digimon World where digimon are a battling v-pet IRL and the main character gets sucked into the digital world solo.

-In this version of the story, Taichi has a V-dramon. Unclear so far what level digivolution a V-dramon is or if it's related to Veemon. Zeromaru is a dumb name...

-Goggles AND a cape? That's a bit much Taichi...

-I like how doofy Gabumon looks in this. The digimon are way more cartoony and expressive so far.

-Full color and actual, red blood!? This manga looks fabulous on my tablet <3

Ch. 2

-More Digimon World vibes. The Holy Angel Castle looks a lot like the ice castle that you can only enter if you have a vaccine digimon in the PSX game...

-There's a "should digimon have human partners?" element here that we haven't really seen in the show yet. I feel like this question is inevitable for most mon series.

Ch. 3

-Okay, I'll admit, I didn't see the pun in "Zeromaru" (maru is another way to say zero) until this chapter. I hate the name slightly less now.

-A Tonosama Gekomon and a HolyAngemon are a pretty bizarre combo lol

-I really love the art style in this actually. Chibi-mode Taichi was adorable in this chapter and the colors are really nice as well. I wish we got more full-color manga releases like this one!

-So Demon is gonna be the big bad in this? That's kinda nice actually cuz he got majorly short shrifted in 02. Seems like his design is completely different here. Kinda looks like Ogremon...

Ch. 4

-I kinda like how the wild digimon get names in this. Since every digimon from the same species seems to be pretty much identical, giving them names allows me to become more attached to them.

-Only just realized that I don't really know why Etemon is called Etemon. I tried googling it and the Digimon wiki's explanation didn't really help...

-Pretty wild that Gabo said "God is gone" lol. Also, Digi-world creation myth confirmed.

-The manga's McGuffin was introduced: V-tags. I'm guessing the "V" is for "Virtual," but if you're going to call everything "digi" that seems to go against the branding a bit...

Ch. 5

-Okay Gabo's incessant "You guys need to act more concerned!!" gag is getting really annoying. He says it like every 3 pages!

-I had no memory of Deltamon so I thought he was new, but I guess he appeared in an 02 episode? He's really ugly. Also, how many samey dino digimon designs do we need!?

Ch. 6

-These chapters are super short and since a lot of them are battles, they take like 2 minutes to read. Perfect for young kids I guess!

-That triceratops with pecs was pretty cursed.

Ch. 7

-When the digimon are hurt their skin cracks like they're made of plastic or something. Kind of a weird choice...

-Another thing that differs between the manga and anime is that we see Taichi perform first-aid care after fights. The anime doesn't really show a lot of wounds in the first place and usually the digimon just rest to heal.

Ch. 8

-I was surprised to see MarineDevimon who doesn't appear in the anime until 02. I wish I knew more about which chapters of this came out when because it apparently came out over the course of 5 years (1998-2003) -- Edit: this info is thankfully on the wiki

-In this chapter Gomamon says that Triceramon being a data-type means he's a "good" digimon. In the anime they said that even virus-types can be good. So maybe that's more of a prejudice than a fact? (Or it's just different in the manga).

-Gomamon is so baby in this!

Ch. 9

-This manga reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh! season 0 where everything is just slightly off.

-The digimon are more blatantly programs and apparently if you go inside them it's just a neon void? Also, I guess the 01 in the manga's title is a reference to binary.

-Let's see how much random stuff the digivice can do in the manga. So far it allows you to scan digimon for their HP and to communicate telepathically.

Ch. 10

-Already 2 out of 5 tags collected which means that this tag collecting thing is probably just one out of many arcs.

-For some reason the official release goes up to chapter 10 for volume 1 but the fan scans go beyond that? I'm going to stick to the official release because 10 is a nice clean end point.

This manga seems pretty typical for a game/anime-tie in for young boys. The chapters are very easily digestible and nothing too deep happens. The magazine it was serialized in, V-Jump was also home to things like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest, so the demographic is pretty clear. I'm really enjoying the artwork mostly. I wish there were more character moments but the reoccurring cast is pretty dinky at the moment. Let's see where this goes!

I've only written three but out of these, the one I'm most proud of (currently, they switch real fast), it's got to be Misfortunately, Yours. I just really tailored it to my interests (Daechwita Yoongi my *censored due to tag ban*) and the world-building, the Other World, is also my favourite (one that I might be visiting soon 👀)

All Money Can Buy - a thing I've been slowly prodding at. Fashion designer and CEO Park Jimin and a very unimpressed journalist reader, set in Early 2000's London as they work together and frequently butt heads over what is moral. Idk it's just a guilty fantasy for me, good employment and (fictional) romance is all I need right now. When it's going to be published? Lord knows. Real life occupies too much of my time

Rains of Faraway Summer - my beloathed, my beloved, my bespoken mess of a sequel in store for To Have, To Hold, To Make You Stay. To say I'm crying screaming at the thought of writing it any less than what I deem perfect is an understatement. It might take a while to come out but I want it to be good, everything about this series is so plot orientated that I can't risk fumbling it by carelessness

I don't really know... I actually finish the stuff that I write? Like if I start publishing something, I'm determined to see it till the bitter end which is not something I did before while writing my original works. Also, I think I settled in what tone I'm good at writing, namely, angst so I butter that up

So here's the thing. I'm not one to plan resolutions in life and neither do I at writing. It might sound lazy but I don't plan on developing my writing by making a conscious effort, like, watching videos or listening to tips or any of it. To me, writing is an extension of myself and it develops according to my mental perception - the more I develop as a person, the more it develops along with me. By writing all throughout the years I think the most notable change I made is the one that was achieved by personal growth. I'm not actively pursuing the right words because in the end words are just tools, the real weapon of the writer is the thought that we seep into it.

I write a reflection of what I see and think, I let them fly freely as I observe the world around me. I want my progress to be natural, by practice as the sceneries in my mind change and I learn to view them in a different light.

But also fix my use of commas lmao. Right now I'm applying what feels right, but since I'm not a native English speaker, I think they're all wrong. Funny thing they never included punctuation while teaching English at school -_-

Number 1 favourite line I've written (I'm cheating it's not a line but a paragraph but shhhh)

"The grey clouds unexpectedly part and the slow warming, yellow rays of sun bask the mountain alleys in a quiet early evening. The soft wind carries strings of dark soot and a few stray sparks up into the sky, towards the faint chippers of uncertain bird songs.

Spring was coming to Red Point."

Partially why I treasure Hold so much is that I didn't care and wrote long descriptions of sceneries. It probably is oh so obnoxious to the readers, but it was so comforting for me to write. This line is my favourite because I had a particular spot in mind when writing this scene and I can always picture it clearly with this description. Also contrasting the violence before, the end has like a sense of "thud" when panning to the nature and the upcoming spring, to me it really grasps that feeling of horrible things being over and now there's just quiet. You listen to the rustling of the wind, exhausted and slightly numb, trying to grasp what happened as the world continues onward

I'll put like everything after the first two questions under readmore so I don't clutter the dash sjsjs. Thank you so much for sending so many! They were fun to think about and answer. Hopefully, my answers are coherent sjsj

2. if you could have saved one TV show from cancellation, which one would it be?

This is by far the easiest because Anne With An E deserved it's five seasons and I will forever hate netflix and CBC for robbing us of it

6. which shows do you think are underrated and need more love?

Hmmmmm, well recently I've been rewatching Baby Daddy which was a show on ABC that had the iconic Melissa Peterman on it and it's just sitcom gold. It's super ridiculous and all the characters are messy in their own beautiful ways. It's super fun whilst also having some SERIOUS pining going on that just works. I'm really enjoying rewatching since it has been so long and I forgot everything. I forgot how good it was.

For a newer show, I think Only Murders in the Building is pretty underrated for how good it is--- like I know it's got a fair amount of people watching it but definitely feels like it hasn't quite hit on tumblr like some other shows have even though it is just SO good. I never expected the trio of Steve, Martin, and Selena to be so good but they work together flawlessly and it's such a fun murder mystery comedy that has a really unique tone to it.

8. do you prefer week-to-week content, or just binging all in one go?

For new series, I think I actually prefer the week-to-week content because the experience last longer and there's more time to digest episodes and to engage in creating and discussing content. When it's all released at once, it feels like you have to race to finish it otherwise you're gonna get spoilers or you're gonna miss the chance to discuss it if you want and I've realized that that actually is just not a fun experience and ruins the journey of consuming the series. I much prefer getting a week to process an episode rather than having to binge it all at once just so you get to see it all before it is spoiled for you.

For old series, I love to go on a good old binge of it just relive it.

10. what’s one show you thought you’d love but turned out to really hate?

I was excited to get new a/tla verse content way back in the day when Iegend of k*rra was released but it absolutely was a letdown and ruined a lot of the original lore and characters and I rue the day it ever showed up

15. do you feel like there are any overrated TV show formats?

(This kinda goes hand-in-hand with the previous question) After numerous letdowns, I have decided that spinoff/sequel series with an entirely new generation or with the former generation as just background stand-ins for when they're deemed plot-worthy enough to make an appearance should just be stopped. The original characters are always disrespected or disregarded in some fashion too and it sucks.

I have yet to see one really do any justice to the source material and more often than not it ends up contradicting it in such an egregious way that it sours a lot of what made the original series special because people start waving around the new contradictory materials as something you MUST agree with even if it is a terrible new take or it ruins old characters/concepts.

I hate that I can't go into tags for the original series of shows that have sequels without having to see the nonsense the new show has thrown into the mix that totally ruins the original canon content or characters and I wish they'd would just stop making them in general. They're never as good as the original.

16. do you feel like there are any underrated TV show formats?

I don't know if this counts as like a format or whatever but I think that kdramas have it right by having the stories of their shows already figured out in its entirety before it's released. Sure, you usually only get one season of the show and it's usually only around 16 to 20 episodes but I'd rather have a show know where it is going than end up like a show that has to keep constantly find new ways to drag out the story because they want to get renewed for another season even if the series doesn't need it. Like, even with Moira, she said she had already decided on 5 seasons for AWAE and knew what she wanted to do with it and I actually like that so much. I would rather a story know where it is going than getting ruined because the creators never had a set idea on how they wanted to end it or were too money hunger to know when to do so.

19. are there any shows on your “to watch” list right now?

oh, so many but I've started a new chapter in my life and I have absolutely no time for myself so I've just been watching familiar content to de-stress rather than attempt any new stuff. I need to finish several kdramas (Devil J/udge and D/oom At Your Service in particular) and eventually, I'll try an episode of s/quid game just to see if it my type of thing. There's definitely more I probably have on my list but those are the ones I can think of right now.

41. if you could change 1 detail about any show, what would you change and why?

There are so many shows I would have just 1 thing I needed to change but my mind is on awae right now so I'm just gonna stick with Mary didn't need to die and I wish they didn't do that to her even if that episode was heartbreakingly beautiful.

50. what’s one TV cliche you love?

Always love me a good found family cliche especially if they bicker and tease each other all the time but would absolutely die for each in a heartbeat if need be.

51. what’s one TV cliche you despise?

I don't know if it counts as a cliche or not but I'm gonna say it anyways---- I absolutely hate whenever a certain character (especially a main) never seems to actually get consequences for their actions even when they treat the people around them like dirt and on top of that they always seem to somehow end up the victim of the situation even though they are the one that is the root of the problems. That ish irks me to no end and will easily turn a character I enjoyed into someone I no longer like anymore because they've been completely stunted in their character growth since they never actually have to own up to what they do.
