Lula, whose father is an aspiring lawyer, enjoys reading when she is not caring for her younger sisters or the family home.
Lula finds peace in the deep forests outside of the town. Her goal in life is to lead a fulfilling career. A deep-seated mentality of a woman caring for the home and nothing more stands in her way. Can she, like many of the women of the 1890s, show that women are more than just housemaids?
