As a few of my followers/mutuals may know, I play Sims Freeplay. And sometimes it throws up some surprises.

It's not completely free. If you need boosters or whatever, you've got to pay for the privilege.

Once you get past the 'stages' then ... each month, the game creators will throw out a load of events. Some are reruns, so you will miss them.

Or ... if you haven't completed some of it, you'll get to catch up or start all over again - whichever the game decides your Sims fate.

Some you simply CANNOT skip past *coughInfluenceIslandcough* and THAT one is definitely rigged so you lose OR pay real money. (Boo hiss)

Anyways, enough waffle.

Today's unexpected thing?

One of the events is the SimChase challenge. It is spread over several days, starts off with short challenges, and those get longer to fill up the day.

The last one? Was supposed to be 10 days long. I checked this morning to complete day 9, and prepared myself for the final day. When suddenly ... BOOM ... it all vanished.

No usual fanfare or congratulations.

Just ... gone

There’s a new episode of Behind the Simscoming our way this week. Maxis is releasing the video at a live event on YouTube this Tuesday, September 12th.

This is the third episode of the series, that talks about new things for The Sims franchise. The stream is supposed to be only 15 minutes long, but should cover new content coming for The Sims Mobile, The Sims Freeplay and The Sims 4 in the upcoming season, as well as new info on the development of Project Rene.

Going to take a moment to complain about Sims Freeplay.

So there was an update that allowed Sims to get pregnant right? There was also a recent update that allowed you to assign specific pronouns, giving room to create trans or nonbinary characters.

But here's a thing I noticed: there are two body types, stereotypically male and female, with mostly gender exclusive clothes. And only the feminine body type can participate in the pregnancy event.

Roleplaying as a trans man? He can have he/him pronouns and a masculine blocky body; he can also have a feminine curvy body with obvious breasts but still have the preferred pronouns.

Want a butch lesbian? Same limits as above. My attempt created a short-haired woman with less feminine clothes but just kind of read as a soft butch to me.

There isn't much room for an androgynous character. Either you get a masculine body with mostly masculine clothes (with some options for longer hair), or a feminine body with mostly feminine clothes (some short hair options). There isn't really an in-between option.

Now obviously Freeplay is a very simplified version of the mainline Sims games and the above updates are very recent. This could simply be a coding thing, where it was just easier to cleanly divide it in this way. But as someone who's been playing with a loose storyline in mind with the characters I've been making, it was unexpectedly limiting and a tad dissapointing.

(For context, I have a gay married couple in one of the houses, one of them I was thinking of as a trans man. I decided to give them a kid and instead of having the baby just magically appear in the crib, on a whim, decided to try the pregnancy event with them. But then it turned out the event only applied to feminine bodies. Which put me in the awkward position of either disregarding the event and skip straight to the crib appearance, use a different family for the event, or give my trans man a makeover and give him a more feminine body.)

update incidentally on the sims freeplay situation: we have arbitrarily decided that if we have 1250 lp per account we can try doing the last leg of the main story quests. this is objectively insane especially given our demonstrable dislike of the clicker game style paying lp to blitz through everything turns the game into but because we love overpreparedness more than life itself we’re gonna go for it nevertheless. as it stands we’re at around 900 on each save even with the limited event quest currently running and we’re so inordinately proud of this even though it’s so ridiculous

My Sims Freeplay Photo Dump!

So I don’t know if y’all are aware, but I first got into The Sims as a franchise through one of its mobile installments, The Sims Freeplay (I’m aware there is also “The Sims Mobile”, but that one came out when I was frankly too old to be interested in it, so I’ve never played it). It’s money-grubby as hell (of course, being an EA game), but it didn’t stop me playing it on my family iPad from late 2014 at the earliest until about 2016 or 2017 when I took a break, then returned to the game around late 2017 at the earliest until about 2019 or 2020 when I figured out how to play it on an emulator (by then, I lost all my progress I built from my iPad save - RIP iOS Game Center), then returned again briefly in the summer of 2022 starting a new emulator save. I’ve stopped playing ever since the sims received a face update sometime in October 2022 - I don’t know, I’ve just never gotten used to the new faces (and by now, I’ve realized how much the game demands you drop loads of cash to actually succeed at many of its events)...

Regardless, I won’t deny how nostalgic this game is to me, so I thought I’d share some highlights (and funny moments)! Most of these were taken from my emulated game.

Have you ever imagined a not so berry challenge in the Sims Freeplay? Yes! it is possible!

I changed some rules to adapt the reality of the game, but basically it looks like this:

- your house can be built with infinite money.

- you cannot speed up your sim's life. should let its life cycle run normally.

you’ll probably have forgotten to go to bed , waiting for him to come home from the studio, so you’re asleep on the couch. when he walks in he sees you asleep and internally he’s screaming because damn, you look so cute in your little cat pose snuggled with the blanket. he gently wakes you up and helps you to the bed. you’re already asleep again when he comes back so he just smiles and lies down next to you, an arm around you and letting you snuggle into his chest.

~ JAY:

he pretends to hate it when you wrap an arm around him but secretly he loves it so much, along with when you fall asleep on his shoulder after a late night event, he adjusts himself to make sure it’s comfortable for you. when you get home, he will not hesitate to try and carry you to bed (which always fails, ending up with you waking up and the two of you walking to bed together). sometimes, when he’s really tired, maybe after a late night dance practice, he falls asleep on your chest and it’s so cute when you wake him up and he looks up at you like a confused puppy, “y/nnie?”

~ JAKE:

he tends to fall asleep first, hugging you close. sometimes his head rests in the crook of your neck, maybe the closeness of your pulse soothes him. he’s like a little puppy when he sleeps, his face relaxed and squished against the pillow, and you like to watch him breathe in tiny, as you slowly drift off yourself. on the rare occasion where you fall asleep first, most likely after a super tiring day, he lets you sleep on his chest, watching you with the most lovey-dovey eyes until he falls asleep too. however tired he is, he won’t sleep unless he’s kissed you on your forehead, “goodnight, y/n”, and you say it back every night, “goodnight, jakey”

~ SUNGHOON:

he’s the type to pretend he doesn’t like the skinship but then when he’s asleep, he cuddles closer to you and hugs you around your waist. it always wakes you up, so you just watch fondly until you fall back asleep, your heads now touching. he always denies it in the morning, “stop lying, y/n, i would never!” but you both know how much he loves it. when you fall asleep first, he tends to hug you so that his body shields your own, he’s trying to protect you even in his sleep and you find it adorable when you wake up in the morning caged in his arms. when he falls asleep first, his head is usually on your chest, soothed by the feeling of your chest rising up and down as you breathe.

~ SUNOO:

you always fall asleep first, because he keeps himself awake just to see you asleep. he hugs you super tight, whether it’s a back hug or a normal hug, and he loves it when you snuggle into his neck. you’re always super tired after a long day, so he makes you both hot chocolate and you watch a drama together until you both fall asleep on the couch, your head resting on his chest with his arms around you. when you wake up in the morning, you always laugh at his face scrunched up behind the face mask he wears to sleep, “it’s important to maintain my beautiful skin, y/n!” and you’re usually the first one awake, unless he has an early practice when he’ll wake you up so that he can kiss you before he leaves, even though you always whine, “why do you want to kiss me? i just woke up!”

~ JUNGWON:

there isn’t really one specific person who falls asleep first with you two, it depends on the day. if he falls asleep first, he’s probably got his arms and legs splayed all over you and when you wake up you just smile and gently wriggle out from under them. when you fall asleep first, it’s usually with your arms around his torso with your head buried in his neck, and his arms around your waist hugging you close. if he has to wake up early in the morning it’s usually to you whining and trying to pull him down to make him stay in bed with you, but he just laughs and kisses you goodbye on the forehead. sometimes you come home later than him, which is pretty rare, but by that point you just fall asleep next to him, when he’ll wake up slightly but then go back to sleep, his arms draped over you.

~ NI-KI:

he’s the type who is used to sleeping on his own, so at first it feels a bit awkward sleeping together. after a while you notice that he tends to put an arm over you during the night, and you always hug him when you sleep. some mornings he wakes up and just lays there in your arms until you wake up and let him go. some nights he comes back late and gently lifts your head up so it lays on his chest. he likes watching you, so peaceful in your sleep, snuggling up closer to him for warmth. after a while he starts hugging you back, with both of you hugging each other as you sleep. sometimes you have to wake up early, but he won’t let you go, arms holding you down and he mumbles into your ear, “don’t go, y/nnie”. you stay there for a while, enjoying the warmth, until you really have to go, which makes him grumpy until you come back.

Finished the influencer challenge season 47!

I played SIMS FREEPLAY (throws up) for 2 years & literally spent over $1000 on that game because I got addicted… they literally insert gambling into the game & I didn’t realize it since it was hidden behind this concept of “live events” for the community. For the last several years I periodically would search for a way to buy sims 2. I was willing to pay a lot for it but never saw an opportunity that wasn’t a scam lol…

So when I realized there was a way to download it last September I was skeptical but said what the hell it’s worth a shot. My computer is under warranty for another year lol

I’m not gonna front like I wasn’t being dramatic but when I loaded the game n saw the intro all the nostalgia came back n i literally cried tears of joy!

I began playing again in September 2022 and the last time I had played was when I was in maybe 11? (I’m 26). My momma n I played a completely vanilla game. I had no idea that you could put custom content in the game, let alone easily mod the game.

I had absolutely no idea there was such a vibrant community of such brilliant, creative people!!!! so many people out here, like Lady Duchess, taking the time to go inside the game n learn how to manipulate the code to do pretty much whatever the hell our lil hearts desire. THAT IS SO FUCKING AMAZING. HOW ARE PEOPLE SO FUCKING AWESOME?

& then these brilliant people share that with the world asking nothing in return. They just want us all to be able to get the most out of our gameplay. The content creators that take the time outta there days to construct things so all of our games are not only more beautiful but allow for all of us to have a completely unique experience. We all get to create the worlds of our imagination with literally no boundaries.

And without all of you gracious, brilliant, creative people that would not be possible. All for the love of the game n this community.

Idk about yall, but this game is an escape from the stress of the world for me… I picked up the game right before a storm hit in my life n this was truly a reprieve. I could escape to my own lil world n forget all the bullshit for a lil while.

I guess all this to say THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart. this community is full of so much love. And to be this strong 2 fricken decades after it came out because the game is just such a mf gem n unlike any other… (hello EA)

Pink Flashing Research Part 2

I've done a bit more research and testing on the subject of pink flashing (Thanks to everyone from my Discord who contributed!)

I came up with a "duct tape", temporary solution for Mansion & Garden players, in the form of an ASI mod, available with instructions under the cut.

Let me know how it goes! This won't fix crashes and won't work in every case, but people have seen improvements. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this at some point. I might make it a part of RPC eventually.

Usage and drawbacks:

All this mod does is ignore when the game tells materials to start flashing, which can result in them working fine as the game tends to misjudge the amount of available memory and make stuff pink flash when it's not really necessary.

This can result in pink flashing being gone and everything looking normal or stuff that would normally pink flash simply turning invisible.

If you see things start turning invisible in-game, type in the cheat "boolprop reparseshaders true" (without the quotes of course)

Installation Instructions:

If you use Sims2RPC, copy the "NoErrorVisualization.asi" file into your "(Mansion & Garden Install folder)/TSBin/mods" folder. (e.g "C:/Origin Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection/Fun with Pets/SP9/TSBin/mods")

If you don't use Sims2RPC you will need a cracked Sims2EP9.exe, then copy the "NoErrorVisualization.asi" file into your M&G TSBin folder, and download an ASI Loader: (SFS/Dropbox). Copy this dsound.dll file in TSBin alongside the .asi file.

Urgh Seriously (Sims Freeplay related)

So ...

I logged in today to check on progress of a new development in game and this happened

Influence Island - a side game that I do not like but have zero options to avoid it. Basic rules, only one Sim is allowed onto the island to influence a bunch of random Sims there, to become one in seven clan mates to get prizes, leading to a main prize. There is an opponent who you are against. Blah blah blah.

I thought that Mrs Santa Claus would be a fairly easy Sim to influence, but she is proving immune to at least four different Sims, thus reducing my chances on getting the big prize (hence mine and a few others dislike for this particular side game)

SimChase challenge has just started and one task only takes approximately 5 minutes to do. So I thought ... Great! I'll get one of my elder Sims to do that

So i sent one for that one task, move elsewhere and came back to find that they'd either 'forgotten' or couldn't be arsed to do this simple task.

Then, when the Hobby Event happens, the same household (an illegal bakery underneath a produce shop - go figure - of all elderly Sims sounds good right?😜) I have issues with some Sims refusing to make candles/glass/pottery/jewellery

So yeah. There's definitely a digital revolt going on and I've got to keep them in check.

Hubby rolls his eyes when he hears me swearing at my kindle. Because these Sims are exasperating

I’m playing the sims FreePlay (mobile game) and one of the quests involves a turkey in your yard and the event lasts for 3 irl days (or until you finish the quest and due to it being a mobile game could take 2+ days) and the turkey will not stop making noise literally every half second and it’s so annoying. I can’t play with the sound on until 3 days from now bc of the annoying turkey
