Anonymously Autonomous: an Autonomy Based Legacy Challenge
For The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and The Sims 4
Have you ever played an ISBI (I'm Surrounded by Idiots) legacy, or an asylum challenge? Was it something you enjoyed, but felt a little ick about the name, and the premise being that the sims you don't control are "insane," "crazy," "erratic," or just in some way just stupid? Well, you're not alone! The autonomy in these games isn't great, but can make for some really chaotic situations that you'd never get if you controlled every single sim most of the time, so it's fun to occasionally play a game where your sims are allowed to just be their little chaotic selves. And I want to help facilitate the chaos because maybe I'm a little bit of a Watcher of Mischief myself. If you're interested, keep reading!
Basic Concept
If you know the ISBI and Asylum challenges, you know the main premise: you can only control one sim in your household. In the ISBI Legacy, your founder will eventually "pass the torch" on to their heir, who will become the next sim you can control, and you will no longer be able to control your previous sim. It's very simple. There are other rules, and some versions even include the addition of points, but that's the basic idea.
For AAL (Anonymously Autonomous Legacy), at the bare bones, it's the same exact concept: one single sim you can control. But I decided to do something a little different with this, as well, because I didn't want this to be just a renaming of the ISBI. I want it to be its own thing. And what that thing is is:
Randomization.
The sim you can control will not necessarily be your founder or heir at all times. When you only control one sim, it will always be that sim you control, but once you have multiple sims in your household, after a set period of time you have to Spin a Wheel with all of your household's eligible sims on it to pick what sim you will control during the next set period of time. Sometimes, you will get the same sim multiple times in a row. Sometimes you might never even get to control your heir. It will all depend on the wheel (or dice roller, or number randomizer, whatever you wish).
Interested? Good!
General Rules (for Sims 2, 3, and 4)
Create a YA sim of your choice. If you are playing TS2, you may start either as a YA in university, or you may start as an adult to start their life right away. They can have any personality, likes/dislikes, turn ons/offs, whatever you want.
If you want to start off with randomization from the very beginning, give them a spouse, and spin the wheel to decide who you play as from the beginning.
Use whatever age span you want to for this. However, short might make this even more difficult that it already will be, so only use short if you want an extra challenge.
You may not use money cheats.
Move into a lot using whatever money your family has. You may not give them more money to build them a nice house.
Optional: Move them into the biggest lot in the game (whichever iteration you're playing), and do some lawn living. If they still have a lot of money, reduce their money in a way you see fit - remove it through cheats, or purchase a really expensive item that serves no practical purpose.
Next generation begins when the heir becomes a YA.
Non-heir children may stay in the family home however long you want.
Autonomy Randomization Rules
Once you have more than one sim in your household, you must decide on a specific timeframe in which to randomize who you will be allowed to control and how long you can control them.
An example of what I mean by this is if you have four sims in your household. Let's call them Matthew, Frankie, Shawn, and Sky. Matthew is the founder, Frankie his wife, Shawn a child, and Sky a toddler. You input their names in the wheel, and spin it. The wheel lands on Shawn's name, so for that entire week, he is the only one you are allowed to play.
When you have a sim chosen to be the only one you can control, that is the only sim you may select. You may not select other sims to check their inventory, to check their needs, etc. Their needs and everything are a mystery to you. If they genuinely seem to be stuck, you may reset them however your particular iteration allows you to do so.
You may use your own timeframe for selecting a random sim, but I have come up with my own in case you want to use one of mine.
Weekly Randomization: On Sunday at 8 am, spin the wheel. From that moment until the next Sunday at 8 am, you will control only that sim.
Seasonal Randomization: This is similar to the previous one, but if you play TS4 and play with 14 day or 28 day seasons or have some kind of mod or cheats to modify the length of your seasons. On the first day of the season at 8 am, spin the wheel. From that moment until the first day of the next season, you will control only that sim.
Yearly Randomization: If you want more time with a single sim, this one is for you. On the first day of Spring at 8 am, spin the wheel. From that moment through all of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, you will control only that sim. On the first day of the next Spring at 8 am, you will spin the wheel again.
Age Span Randomization: The next time your current sim ages up, spin the wheel. So if your founder starts as a YA, spin the wheel when they age up to adult. If the next sim is a child, you play them until they age up to teen, and so forth.
No Randomization: This is an option. If you only want to control your torch holders, you don't have to randomize who you control at all, you can just control your founder then heirs, as long as you only ever control one sim at a time.
Random Randomization: This one would be rather difficult to keep track of, but if you want to, you can use either a number randomizer, or a dicer roller, or some way, to pick how many days you will control your current sim. When you first start controlling a sim, you will roll to find out how many days you may control that sim. Once you move onto the next sim, roll once again to find out how long you will control that sim.
This is all of the timeframes I can come up with right now, but if you have any ideas feel free to message them to me!
Another rule about the randomization is that you may roll the same sim multiple times in a row. You may not remove your current sim from the wheel - whatever sim you get is the one you play.
The sim you control doesn't need to be related to your family. If they are a controllable sim in your household, you must put them on the wheel. If you move in your best friend? You may end up controlling them more often than your own sim.
Optional: If you are going to be posting your legacy on Simblr, or somewhere else, and want to really follow the "anonymous" part of this challenge, keep the sim you are controlling a secret from your viewers! See if they can guess which sim is being controlled, maybe have a poll every time before the next switch just for fun.
General and Iteration-Specific Rules
The first thing I'm going to talk about is what sims are eligible to be put on the wheel, depending on which game you are playing.
The Sims 2: The sims eligible for being the controllable sim are as follows: toddlers, children, teens, young adults (if you send them to university), adults, and elders. All occults/supernatural beings are also eligible, if they are in your household. If you use cheats to control babies or pets, you may also add them to the wheel.
The Sims 3: The sims eligible for being the controllable sim are as follows: babies, toddlers, children, teens, young adults, adults, elders, cats, dogs, and horses. All occults/supernatural beings are also eligible, if they are in your household.
The Sims 4: The sims eligible for being the controllable sim are as follows: infants, toddlers, children, teens, young adults, adults, and elders. All occults/supernatural beings are also eligible, if they are in your household. Also, if you use the mod that allows you to play pets, you may add them to the wheel as well.
You may play however you would normally play, except that you are only allowed to play one sim at a time.
Mods and CC are allowed. You may even use mods that improve autonomy if you so wish.
For any of the games, you may set things up to make life easier for you. For example, I suggest using the baby monitor in TS3 if you end up having to play as a baby - that way, you can use it to call attention to yourself if you are in need. For TS4, I suggest using MCCC to make more things autonomous, like gardening and repairing items. Things like that.
When controlling a sim, you may use their reward points to purchase things. Even if they are rewards that will help you greatly, nothing is off limits. Use whatever advantage you are given.
Nothing in the build/buy modes are off limits either. If you want sim death, feel free to build the horrors. If you want to keep as far away from death as you want, you don't even need an oven. It's up to your discretion.
Also, how do you choose an heir? You can choose an heir any way you choose. Whether you choose the one you like the most, have an heir poll, or use one of the Succession Laws from the official legacy challenge, any way you prefer is fine.
What is the Goal?
Your goal is to get to the 10th generation, and will end when the 10th generation's youngest child ages up to YA. You may play further than this if you please, but that is the main goal.
However, this is not as simple as you might thing, and that is why it is your only required goal.
Because you will (probably) be randomizing which sim you can control, it's not always going to easy to keep your heirs alive, or even find your heir a spouse/significant other to have children with. After all, if you can't control the heir, how can you find them someone to love?
You will have to use whatever sim you are allowed to play to your advantage. If you can't play your heir, use the sim you can play to bring eligible sims to the household to meet your heir.
Another reason that the goal is simple is because sims are not the brightest bulbs in the box, or the sharpest tool in the shed (I had to say it). Some of your unplayable sims might very well die to something silly, like eating too many jelly beans (TS3) or starving to death. Some babies, infants, toddlers, or children may be taken away by social services. Some pets might be taken away as well.
Optional: If you want a little extra challenge, you can add the generational goal that you have to try to complete your heir's LTW/aspiration before they die.
"What is the fail condition for this challenge?" You may be asking. There is exactly one fail condition: every sim related to your family in the household dies/is taken away. So, realistically, this challenge is very difficult to fail. If you only have one related sim left in the household but there are relatives out in the world and you want some insurance, feel free to bring the family back into the home. Whatever you can do to not fail? Do it.
And that's all I have for now! I haven't put together points or anything, or a score card, because I know people don't really play challenges for points anymore. But, if enough people want to play for points, I will add a scoresheet/scoring section.
If you have any questions, please message them to me or comment on this post, and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability!
If you decide to play this challenge, please tag it with #SimsAALC so that I can see it!

House of Lost Souls ◇ Information
Introduction
This is my playthrough of the Asylum challenge by simswithcheese. I attempted this challenge many years ago and, big shock, I never finished it lol I think I went too hard into the story angle because I had an entire story planned with the evil asylum owner. This time, there IS a bit of a story, but it’s mostly just a playthrough. Hopefully I can complete it this time lol
Theme song:
Information
I’m not a huge stickler for the rules because they make it a lot harder for me to actually finish shit, which is already a huge issue lol This is the basic breakdown of how I’m gonna play:
All sims, minus my sim, have been COMPLETELY randomized (save for the erratic trait.)
I built the asylum with the cheapest furniture but added several skill items.
My sim is the only sim I control.
All crafted items will be sold to fund the asylum.
Aging is turned off and season length is 14.
All sims have the inner peace trait. Main sim must complete this before going after their own aspiration.
None of them will have jobs (because those in asylums don’t have jobs.)
Starting funds are set to $1,500.
3 toilets, 4 showers, 8 beds.
Main sim must write in her journal before bed every single day.
The Patients
Patient #14238 – Alex Harmonson
Patient #16804 – Alexia Locklear
Patient #87437 – Blake Shan
Patient #90361 – Dominic Braswell
Patient #13427 – Dwayne Bryan
Patient #17231 – Junior Flaherty
Patient #63871 - Rhys Park
Patient #88438 – Rae Reynolds (the main character)
if anyone wants the template for the patient cards, lmk c: also before someone gets upset over this, I suffer from several mental illnesses myself and I have no problem with this challenge. If anything, it's a good release because I can help my sim heal when I cannot.

Tonight on 9-1-1 Asylum Challenge...this is why we do not play with risky woohoo on 40% 🤦♀️
tw: vomit, mpreg
What is this Edmundo? Evan? These freaking twins are fresh out of the oven my guys. I do not need another baby in the house!
So far, we're working with Christopher and Elliana. Cute little bundles of joy, the result of Eddie and Buck woohooing all over the damn asylum. Y'all these two are IN LOVE.
Just fighting their erratic urges and being good daddies, while Chim embraces the crazy and fights with Blarffy. What did that bear do to you, Chim?
Speaking of Chim, this beard is new and random. I did not know Sims randomly grew facial hair.
Fingers crossed we do not get twins again. I cannot handle that many kids 😂😂

Asylum Challenge Round 4
Disaster struck! And one more grave is added to the secret side graveyard.
Aspirations are going good though! And i think we're at a place where we have enough money to pay the bills every time. A little harder without an easel.

Решила поиграть в Симс 4, для чего взяла девушку, созданную для испытания Холостяк ещё в базовой игре.
(I decided to play The Sims 4, for which I took the girl created for the Bachelor challenge in the base game)
Она немного изменилась с тех пор, нашла работу. Знакомьтесь, это Бэтти.
(She has changed a little since then, she found a job. Meet Betty)
Как вы понимаете, сердце холостяка она не покорила, но желание найти любовь ее не покинуло. Она даже влюбилась в одного горячего парня - Давида (пациента из оконченного челленджа Психушка).
(As you understand, she did not win the bachelor’s heart, but the desire to find love did not leave her. She even fell in love with one hot guy - David (a patient from the completed Asylum challenge)
Но тот даже слышать не хотел о ее чувствах.
(But he didn’t even want to hear about her feelings)
А когда она приглашала его в кафе, он засматривался на других дам или убегал с ними знакомиться. Огромное спасибо @cubzikbuilds за прекрасные постройки!
(And when she invited him to a cafe, he looked at other ladies or ran away to meet them. Many thanks to @cubzikbuilds for the wonderful buildings!)
На фестивале в Комореби Бэтти вообще его потеряла и сидела грустная в одиночестве, когда на нее обратим внимание интересный молодой сим.
(At the festival in Komorebi, Betty completely lost it and was sitting sad alone when an interesting young Sim noticed her)
Красавца звали Сэмуэль Капоне, и он запал в ее сердечко. Бэтти даже пригласила его домой, и он разделил ее страсть к готовке. К тому же Сэм оказался трудолюбивым.
(The handsome man's name was Samuel Capone, and he fell into her heart. Betty even invited him home and he shared her passion for cooking. In addition, Sam turned out to be a hard worker)
Девушка не знала, кого выбрать. Она любила обоих. Внезапно Давид сам позвонил и позвал на свидание, на Бэтти отказалась. Ей нужно было подумать, кто же ей больше подходит.
(The girl didn't know who to choose. She loved both. Suddenly David himself called and asked for a date, but Betty refused. She needed to think about who was best for her)
Позже она пригласила подругу и Сэма в бассейн. Ах, какое у него тело! Подруга Бэтти наверняка обзавидовалась, что у нее такого мужчины нет.
(Later, she invited her friend and Sam to the pool. Oh, what a body he has! Betty's friend was probably jealous that she didn't have such a man)
Давид, похоже, обиделся, поскольку сообщил, что ходил на свидание с другой, и у них любовь. Но Бэтти уже было всё равно.
(David seemed offended because he said that he went on a date with someone else and they were in love. But Betty didn't care anymore)
Рядом с Сэмом ей хотелось меняется, быть такой же активной, как и он, хотя у нее были прекрасные рубенсовские формы
(Next to Sam, she wanted to change, to be as active as he was, although she had beautiful Rubensian forms)
и Сэм любил ее такой, какой она была.
(and Sam loved her for who she was)
Бэтти успела забыть о Давиде, но Давид не забыл о ней. Он начал настойчиво звать ее на свидание, а потом появился на пороге ее дома. Бэтти захлопнула дверь прямо перед его носом.
(Betty managed to forget about David, but David did not forget about her. He began persistently asking her out on a date, and then appeared on her doorstep. Betty slammed the door in his face)
Тем временем Сэм предложил Бэтти стать арой и съехаться. У него оказалось почти 20 000 симолеонов, и он стремился заработать ещё больше для своей семьи.
(Meanwhile, Sam suggested to Betty that they become a couple and move in together. He had almost 20,000 Simoleons and was eager to earn even more for his family)
Только он был фрилансеров, подрабатывал в Центре здоровья, где задерживали зарплату (реально, в Центре он ничего не заработал за весь день).
(Only he was a freelancer, working part-time at the Health Center, where his salary was delayed (in reality, he didn’t earn anything at the Center the whole day)
Зато некоторые подработки приносили неплохие деньги, хоть и были смертельно опасны. Бэтти об этом он не говорил, чтобы не беспокоить.
(But some part-time jobs brought good money, even though they were deadly dangerous. He didn’t tell Betty about this so as not to bother her)
Рядом со своим мужчиной девушка чувствовала себя счастливой и веселой.
(Next to her man, the girl felt happy and cheerful)
Сэм состоял в клубе здорового образа жизни, который был создан много лет назад, когда случилась эпидемия излишнего веса у всех симов. Ему приходилось не только посещать занятия клуба, но и проводить их.
(Sam was a member of a healthy lifestyle club that was created many years ago when there was an epidemic of excess weight among all Sims. He had to not only attend club classes, but also conduct them)
Бетти очень повезло с возлюбленным.
(Betty is very lucky with her lover)
Надеюсь, они будут счастливы в дальнейшем.
(I hope they will be happy in the future)

LEGACY HISTORY CHALLENGE
Hey guys! Welcome to my Simblr!!!

INTRODUCTION
The Legacy History Challenge is a Sims 4 challenge based on the Legacy Challenge, History Challenge, and Ultimate Decades Challenge that takes your Founder Sim and descendants on a tour of Sim history, from Prehistory to the 2030s, whose events parallel human history. I dare say that this is the most complete, longest and ambitious challenge of The Sims ever done, because even narrowing down the ancient history, it should cover almost 500 Sim years (the year of the game), all expansions and game packs, completing all the achievements and adding other known challenges. At some point along this challenge I intend to incorporate and adapt The Amazon Challenge, The Great British Challenge, Ultimate Decades Challenge, Decades Challenge, Trash to Luxury Hardcore, Not Enough Human, Black Widow Challenge, Asylum Challenge, Bunker Challenge, Seven Babies Challenge, among others.
GOALS
The main goal of the Legacy History Challenge is to build a genealogical legacy from prehistory to the present day based on human history and complete all the achievements of The Sims 4. To do so, each Age has its own specific goals and rules.
REQUIREMENTS
LHC is designed to play with different ethnicities over time and different types of gameplay, including various packs and expansions. In the rules for each Age there is a topic where I detail which expansions and packages are required and optional. If you don't have the expansion or core pack, you'll have to adapt your game.
This challenge also requires the use of mods and custom content for complete immersion in the Age being played. The main mods I use are listed in the rules for each Age, and you can also check out my Custom Content inventory. I'm always updating. Remembering, I don't host, I just direct the links. The inventory also breaks down ccs by creators. So for broken links you should go after the original creators. This video can also help repair objects broken by updates. If you are a creator and I have mistakenly listed your content as someone else's, please let me know.
RECOMENDATIONS
I recommend recording your challenge progression through a spreadsheet and family tree. This will facilitate the organization and control of your game and allow the preservation of memory, bringing a sense of satisfaction and reward at the end. The spreadsheet I created is based on Morbid Gamer's spreadsheet for the Ultimate Decades Challenge with some modifications, such as adding a Calendar, Human Chronology Events, suggested baby names and a tag for each Sim. I control every Sim in the world through the MC Command Center. I know when they are born, grow and die through notifications, but you can choose to use it only for your family/group.
You can download my spreadsheet here, updated in September 2023. This table is always being updated with new information. At the end, you can access it in the driver or download and copy and paste the new information into your table as the original table is updated.
I also recommend that you save a new game before each drastic modification in the game (a Sim aged up, for example) and always have a backup on an external HD organized by Ages folders. At the start of each Age you can delete old saves and NPCS ghost Sims from your game. This way, your game won't be so heavy and you'll always have a backup of the old Ages in case you need it.
TRIGGER WARNING
This challenge is based on the narrative of Western world history. I learned history at school from a Eurocentric view of the world and I also don't feel comfortable talking or creating stories about experiences I don't have (the place of speech) or about something I don't know. However, I am doing research to include different ethnicities and locations.
Being based on Western world history also means that your Sim will often be prejudiced, sexist, slave-owning, violent, and will commit or be subject to numerous atrocities. You won't always have complete freedom to choose your ethnicity. Of course, you can ignore this and adapt the LHC in your own way, but keep in mind that it will no longer be historic. (I'm thinking of another type of challenge for those who would like to play more freely that also involves historical progression and I'll release the rules soon).
In this challenge, miscarriages, deaths in childbirth, deaths of babies and children can also occur, as well as population control events that involve the death of Sims in the world, which can make the player uncomfortable. Moreover, this challenge incorporates the 100 Baby Challenge. There will be many children being born, as the chance of them dying in the early stages of life is very high. So if you don't like the little ones crying or the time wasted taking care of them, playing the LHC can be a little torture.
ORIGINS AND INSPIRATIONS
When I started this challenge I wanted to play the History Challenge, but some of the rules just didn't make sense. Why bother raising money in prehistory when there were no coins yet? And how does your Sim have a yoga mat when they should be busy with more important things? Really, a yoga mat? So these rules needed to be changed. Another Challenge that I really like is the Decades Challenge by ZombieCleo. My original intention was to adapt to the two challenges.
So I was looking for Decades Challenge gameplay when I found Morbid Gamer on youtube playing the Ultimate Decades Challenge. At the time, she was playing at 1550, with death rolls, particular life stage duration, and a spreadsheet. It was all fascinating. But not everything that works for the Ultimate Decades Challenge works for the Legacy History Challenge. How to play more than 10 thousand years considering each year as 4 Sim days? Well, I think I found a solution for that. I'm also always watching other creators and how they play their challenges. Marina Montenegro has perfected the History Challenge through its Legacy Eras Challenge, Severalperson is adapting the Ultimate Decades Challenge for multiple countries, and Ermersed Crown has a unique way of adding plot and drama, taking the player on a journey through British history. And they all have really good ideas that can be incorporated.
The sources used in the construction of the challenge are often romanticized and don’t have complete historical accuracy (Even the sources of the History Channel). This is what happens with The Tudors and Vikings series, for example. In this case, they were mentioned just because it is the closest we have to a vision of the described period. However, I'm making sure to make the necessary corrections to the rules so that they are reliable. These corrections are based on books by real historians like André Leroi-Gourhan and Georges Duby. I also make many references to A Song of Ice and Fire, since even though it is a fantasy book, the author is based on the real world to create the narratives and the political scenario always stands out, leaving the fantastic elements in the background.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE LHC AND THE HISTORY CHALLENGE
Legacy History Challenge is slower and harder than History Challenge, I would even say hardcore. HC uses financial objectives and goals and a scoring system. LHC focuses on maximum historical accuracy and the gradual progression of the Ages. HC usually starts with a couple of Sims that are Generation 0 and from their heir each generation counts as an Age. LHC starts with a Founder Sim, the Legacy Matriarch, she has age, traits, aspiration and specific goals and her lineage must continue through several generations to present times. Each Age has a suggested gameplay, duration, number of generations, and Sim lifespan, which the player can adapt as they see fit. The more you follow the gameplay guidelines, the greater your immersion in the historical period covered. The LHC is genealogical, which means you only lose the challenge if for some reason your Matriarch and all of her descendants die in the game. While the HC is hard for a Sim to die, the LHC incorporates death rolls, meaning all your Sims rely on luck to survive. At the LHC, you don't change heirs every generation. When an heir is chosen you must play with him until his death and fulfill the aspirations and tasks assigned to him. Heirs cannot be removed from homes, even if they are elderly and their children are marrying and having children of their own.
After July 2023 update, the LHC incorporates an optional Age called Genesis, where you start with a couple and can complete the Genesis Challenge which consists of populating the world of The Sims with a descendant of your legacy in each house. Within the LHC this challenge can be completed across all played Ages and is based on mythology rather than history. In this case, the couple would be Generation 0 and the Founder Sim must be one of their daughters. Those who play with the Original Age - Genesis will be able to experience a challenge closer to the original HC of cloudseeker, but maintaining all the rules and Ages of the LHC.
THE FOUNDER SIM AND THE PRECURSORS
As stated, the Founder Sim must be a female and the original Matriarch of her family. She is the most important Sim in Legacy. As the daughter of the original precursor couple (if you play Original Age - Genesis) she doesn't participate in the dice roll. Let's consider that by luck of fate (or grace of The Watcher) this Sim managed to reach old age (which in the standard normal playing time of EA games and in prehistoric life expectancy meant about 30 years). Now her descendants have a chance to survive to the present day. It is important that you think about what physical characteristics you will give your Matriarch, as her descendants will be able to carry them in the future. I, for example, made my first Matriarch with very thick lips. I thought it looked beautiful on her, but on some of her descendants it was a little strange. Her name was Eva, she lived in the Costwolds in Prehistoric England (Henford-on-Bagley) and her look was inspired by the game Horizon Zero Dawn. As I initially ignored that Cro-Magnons had darker skin than modern Europeans, I decided to remake her and restart the challenge.
That was before I thought of adding the Original Age - Genesis to the challenge, which I am currently departing from. Below are the Precursor Sims, the founders of the Original Age - Genesis, Adamah and Hawah, created from the genetics of the new Eve with some modifications. I wanted them to look like Hebrews, but I'm not that good at creating Sims from existing models, nor do I know the genetics of that population very well. So I made them a skin tone darker than a European and lighter than a Cro-Magnon, Egyptian or Sumerian.
SIM CALENDAR
The game year has 28 days with four weeks of 7 days each. I like to play the time of the seasons in 7 days so that each year closes a cycle. Just like in Game of Thrones, here the seasons last for years. So I created a Sim Calendar based on that.
The letters P, V, O and I are abbreviations for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter (Primavera, Verão, Outono and Inverno in Portuguese). Instead of the days week names, we have numbers. 1 is Sunday, 2 is Monday, 3 is Tuesday, 4 is Wednesday, 5 is Thursday, 6 is Friday, and 7 is Saturday. The first number in front is equivalent to Sim Year. So this is Sim Year 1. In this logic 7p4 would be the spring Wednesday of Sim Year 7 and 25v3 would be the Summer Tuesday of Sim Year 25. I put colors that remember the seasons for easy identification. Pink for spring, yellow for summer, orange for autumn, and blue ice for winter.
In prehistory, before the invention of writing, there was no calendar. So in the Original Age - Genesis I named the days G1, G2, G3 and so on. The days played in the Paleolithic I named P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 and so on. In the Paleolithic the world is always frozen, so the color is blue ice. In the Mesolithic, the seasons last 15 days, the climate is changing, I named the days M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and so on. In the Neolithic the climate is stabilized and the year has four well-defined seasons. I named the days in the Neolithic N1, N2, N3, N4, N5 and so on. You may notice from the spreadsheet that my calendar starts in G1 and the Original Age - Genesis lasts exactly 2 Sim years. The decade goes through the Paleolithic for 4 Sim years, Mesolithic for 2 Sim years and ends the Neolithic with another 2 Sim years. From the second decade, the first year begins with the official calendar on day 1p1. In my test this count of days was well adapted to the gameplay, but you don't have to follow it strictly. In the LHC rules there is a suggestion of time to play in each phase, but in this period when there was no time control (at least as far as we know), the challenge gives you more freedom to play as you feel more comfortable. However, I advise you to start the Sim calendar on the first day of the second decade and adapt the first decade between Genesis, Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic, organizing the duration of each of these periods into Sim days as you see fit. This will ensure a minimum of organization.
Around the year 3500 BC there were already traces of a proto-script in Mesopotamia. From then on I set the Early Simvilization and the calendar at Sim Year 1, where each Sim Day is equivalent to 1 human year. Thus, events in the Sim world in antiquity will be faster than in human history. I think this is too long a period of time to play on a closer to real scale and there aren't as many recorded events and changes in fashion (as far as we know) as there are from the Middle Ages to present times, which could leave the game monotonous. The Bible, Chinese legends, and the Sumerian King List suggest that ancient men lived for hundreds of years. At this point I have taken the liberty of adopting this conception. So, consider that your Prehistoric Sims lived thousands of years and ancient Sims lived longer than current Sims. This is in relation to events and not to life expectancy, of course. In other words, during antiquity Sims had a faster technological and intellectual development than humans.
In the 100th Sim Year (Year 700 BC) I changed the calendar, so that each year is equivalent to 4 Sim Days as in the Ultimate Decades Challenge. In the game, each Sim Day equals one trimester (considering the Sim's gestation). So 4 Sims Days would be equivalent to 1 year. (Pregnancy actually lasts 4 days: 1 day without finding out, 1 day in the first trimester, 1 day in the second trimester and 1 extra day in the third trimester until the water breaks, but we have an illusion that it's only 3 days). But why did I make this change only in the year 700 BC? Good question! I don't know, I thought it should be time to do that, that it should already have historical records and more interesting events every year, since it's closer to the Classical Age. Aquilus Acta playing The Syderis Legacy in Ultimate Decades Challenge mode a century earlier in Sparta also excites me. Counting each year as 4 Sim days, from 700 BC onwards, in 100 Sim years one arrives at Gregorian year 1, which makes the calendar organized. This is also in the testing phase, I can change the calendar before or after that date. You can also adapt the challenge as you see fit, these are just suggestions.
SIM LIFETIME
As established, 1 Sim Day equals 3 months and 4 Sim Days equals 1 human year. If you notice, the lifespan of the Sim, in normal mode, isn’t equivalent to human life. Considering the duration of EA life stages, at age 29 your Sim would already be an elderly person and would die around age 33:
This may even be valid for prehistory, I've seen some professors saying that in prehistory people lived to be 30 years old and we have nothing written to prove the opposite. But it doesn't make much sense in today's times. Therefore, my suggestion for a more suitable lifespan in Early Simvilization follows in the table below:
People died early in the old days, a 30-year-old woman was already considered old. I've read newspaper pages on the internet saying that this is bullshit and that in the Roman Empire, the rich lived to be 70 years old. But honestly I need to research more about this. My suggestion for life expectancy in the Modern Age is shown in the table below:
You can also increase life expectancy in the 20th century, as the elderly currently live to be 100 years old due to advances in medicine:
Another alternative is to play on short lifespan. Thus, the challenge would run faster and each Sim Day would always be really equivalent to 1 human year. In that case, I suggest changing the pregnancy to just 1 day. You would have to do this in the MC Command Center. If you use Wicked Whims or Wonderful Whims, you need to change the pregnancy settings of those mods too to work. In a short time, the suggested duration of lifetime at the Early Simvilization is shown in the table below:
Now there is a question. Sims in the world grow up on their own, without birthday cakes or player intervention, exactly 1 day after their birthday. So, even if the Sim you play with is born after them or on the same date, if you grow him on his birthday, he will live less than an NPC. For example, your Sim is born on day P1 and they are 1 day old as a newborn. Assuming that newborn is the only stage you're really going to play more than a day past the birthday or let it grow alone to enjoy the stage a little, you'll grow him to infant in P2. After 5 days you get the birthday notification and grow him to toddler in P7. Another 7 days, he gets another birthday notification and grows him to child in P14. In 14 days you will grow him to a teenager in P28. In 21 days it will grow to a young adult in P49. Another 24 days and he will be an adult in P77. After 33 days, you will be an elder in P119. The Sim in the world that is born in P1, grows into an infant in two days (P2) and in another 5 days grows to toddler (P8). He has seven days to become a child and grows up on his own a day later in P16. He will grow to teenager in P31, young adult in P53, adult in P82 and elder in P125. That's one extra day for each life stage change (except newborns), for a total of six extra days, as shown in the table below:
This means that in order for all your Sims in your save to be the same age you should always grow your Sim the day after their birthday or let them grow up on their own. In fact, it should change the life stage duration to 1 day less than suggested in the tables above in the MC Command Center settings. (Morbid Gamer turns off in-game aging and calculates each Sim's lifespan through the spreadsheet. This generates errors. I find it much easier to change settings in the MCC. That way, the age changes will be automatic and you only have to worry about growing the Sim one day after the birthday in the game's Calendar or simply letting him grow up on his own). Below are the settings considering normal and short time:
MC Command Center only modifies life stage duration in normal mode. So, if you're going to play with the short life, you should play in normal mode and change the duration of life in normal mode to the one specified in the table. Note that in the suggestion the life stages of newborn, infant and toddler have also been adapted so that when added together they result in multiples of 7 days (the newborn grows naturally without player intervention in 2 days, the infant in 7 days and the toddler in 19 days, totaling 28 days. In short mode, the newborn grows in 2 days, the infant in 2 days and the toddler in 3 days, totaling 7 days). Infants and toddlers often share similar clothing. So in modern times, in normal game mode, you'll enjoy the little ones for almost an entire Sim year, experiencing all seasons. The other stages have also been adapted so that the Sim when growing alone has life stage durations in multiples of 7. You should note that this way, starting from the Child stage, your Sim will always grow up on the same day of the week, making this closer to the birthday concept. Just remember to always grow the Sim played one day after the birthday marked in the game's Calendar or let him grow alone and all Sims in the world will have the default life stages. This makes it easier when you want to marry your Sim to an NPC of a similar age, making a friendship from childhood, as the two will not have a very large age discrepancy and you will not need to change the NPC age through the MC Command Center (doing so always bugged that NPC's life stage).
As for dogs, cats, horses and other animals, I don't usually mess with their life expectancy. A Sim year is equivalent to 7 human years and animals already live a short time. But Morbid Gamer has a suggested lifespan for dogs and cats in the Ultimate Decades Challenge.
DEATH ROLLS
I think Morbid Gamer invented this and I loved it. Each time your Sim grows to a new stage of life, you have to roll a dice to find out if he/she can grow to the next stage or if he/she must die in that stage and how many days he/she can live (in case of death. I added this second dice because I didn't want all the unlucky Sims to die on their birthday). Death rolls bring more drama to the game and make it unexpected. The data is usually based on life expectancy at the historical moment. It is assumed that if a child manages to survive the early childhood stage, he/she will have a better chance of surviving in the future. Pregnancy should also be more difficult if the Sim is very young (near puberty) or old. The original Sims, including the Founder Sim, are the only ones who are exempt from rolling the dice, because if that generation dies the challenge is over, but descendants must roll the dice on every age change since birth. You can also choose to use some mod that simulates illness and roll the dice only when your Sims get sick.
SPECIAL EVENTS
This is something I adapted from The Great British Challenge by Emersed Crown. In every Age, specific historical events occur, usually tragic as wars and natural catastrophes. This is a way to reduce the game's population so that it doesn't weigh too much. These events are decided by the dice rolls. Some are optional and some are mandatory.
RULES
The rules for each Age are still under construction. I try to test it in my gameplay first and it takes a lot of time. This is a very long challenge, and it takes time to write the rules and make the translations and adaptations to the English language. (If you compare the doc pt/br with the doc en/us you will see that I try to make the adaptations by changing the links with information in each language and not just doing a literal translation. Some of these links remain in the original (generally when it is a font produced in Brazil) and others only have the font in English, because it was the font I used and there is no better match in Portuguese).
Another problem is my perfectionism, I want to make everything perfect and I end up wasting time on it. My goal with the LHC is for it to be as complete as possible and that involves a lot of research and constant revision and improvement of the Ages rules. This challenge is ambitious and must have the perfect historical construction so that it can be easily adapted to The Sims 5, Paralives and future simulation games, as these games must support custom content. So, if you get to the point where you are missing the rules for the next Age, my suggestion is that you start playing The Great British Challenge so you can continue its legacy, rather than waiting too long for updates. Sometimes I make some modifications to improve, although I don't really like to do that after posting on tumblr. I am also open to suggestions and criticism as long as the objective is to improve the challenge and have a historical aspect. You will also find some information repeated throughout this document, such as mod indications and cheat tips. This is because each Age is designed to be played independently. Thus, the player can choose to play only one of the LHC Age, or else take a long time to pass the Age, but have his memory refreshed when reading the rules.

Ladies and Gentlefolks: The Asylum Challenge
I got tired of having Lilac cooped up in a bunker (and the main reason was because of the meanness bug anyway, which for me at least has been patched), so instead she is cooped up in an asylum! Onwards and upwards, eh Lilac?
So yes, we ('what do you mean, we?' she asks) are doing the asylum challenge, with some minor tweaks to the rules. Since the whole conceit of Lilac is that she shouldn't be there, I let her keep her regular traits (SELF-ASSURED, LAZY and FREEGAN) aaaaand since her housemates are pre-made townies, I likewise didn't alter them.
Although some, you may agree, should be locked up for something.
(Disclaimer: I know that institutions can be - to put it nicely - problematic, in the real world, and it is not my intention to make light of this. This is just for the silliness factor and other than doing my best to keep them bound to one lot, the Sims will be able to act as they do normally.)
The 'Guests'
Vladislaus Straud and Ted Roswell
One is in hiding from one rather peeved Henford-on-Bagley matriarch (and her hired occult duo). The other is regularly found conversing with the MOTHER plant.
And yes, this selfie was taken while one of them was possessed.
Jacques Villareal and Raj Rasoya
Ah, now we come to the actual criminal element of the joint. One perhaps had a more 'hands-on' role in being a single parent than through the regular court custody battle, while the other was found unaliving a workplace rival - then claiming that some entity called the Watcher made him do it.
Yes, Raj, you should truly be here.
Lux Demarco and L. Faba
Just for the sake of tokenism, the werewolf contingent had to be represented - and unfortunately Lux drew the short straw. L. Faba however is here because she chose to keep an eye on Vlad on behalf of the spellcasters' society, and they figure that as a MEAN sim, she may be able to convince him that she's actually on his side.
Meredith Roswell
No one is quite sure why she is here. Maybe she thought that the booking was a 2-for-1 deal aboard a cruiser, or in a luxury hotel?
Ma'am, we don't have hotels in the Sims 4...

House of Lost Souls ◇ Prologue
⊶⊰Information⊱⊷ ⊶⊰From the Beginning⊱⊷ ⊶⊰Latest⊱⊷ ⊶⊰Index⊱⊷
----------------------⊶⊰*⊱⊷----------------------
Hello, dear reader, and welcome to the House of Lost Souls. Allow me to introduce the main character, Rae Reynolds. She is creative, gloomy, and socially awkward. These traits have worked against her for most of her life, making it difficult for her to attend school. She stuck it out as long as she could before finally dropping out, no longer able to handle being around so many other people.
She dreams of being a published author, so most of her time is spent writing. She has been working on her fantasy novel for nearly five years now and, though she does make progress, she often wonders if she will ever finish it.
Because of her social issues, she is unable to hold a job for very long. To counteract this, she does small writing gigs and enters various writing contests.
This is her father, Deven. He dreams of quitting his business job and becoming a mixologist, though he currently makes more money than he could chasing his dream. As the only person in the home that’s currently working, he has to prioritize money over dreams. He is a family man first and foremost.
Mind you, he has quite a large savings account, but he doesn’t want to touch that unless absolutely necessary.
This is his fiancé, Terri Ham. She is a nasty piece of work, caring only about money and possessions. Does she love Deven? Only she knows that, but let me tell you this, dear reader – she did not start talking to him because she saw him as an attractive man. How she found out about his savings account, we may never know because she has no intention of speaking on it.
They live in a modest home in Oasis Springs, where Rae has lived her entire life.
Terri is determined to get Deven to dip into his savings and spend that money on her. There’s just one problem that stands between her and her goal – Rae.
“Good morning, honey~” she chirped, her voice filled with fake sweetness.
“Morning, my love.”
As the pair sat down at the bar, Terri decided to enact her plan. She had waited long enough.
“Listen, hun, we need to talk about your kid.”
Deven frowned at this, brow furrowed in worry. “Why? Has something happened to her?”
“No no, she’s fine!” Terri waved off his worries, having to resist the urge to call her a brat. “Well, she’s far from fine. Dear, you know she’s ill, right? You have to do something about her.”
“She’s not ill.” His frown deepened. “She’s just… an introvert.”
“Hun, coddling her is not helping her.”
“And just what do you propose then?”
“Ashwood Asylum! My friend works there and she says many patients have been helped there.”
“Absolutely not. I’m not committing my child to an asylum.”
“You’re such a good man,” she purred, running her hand along his arm. “But she’s not getting any better on her own. She’s only getting worse. I really think -“
“The answer is no.” Deven shook his head. “Once she gets her book published, I’m sure she will open up more. She just needs time.” The mere thought of locking his daughter away turned his stomach.
Terri knew she had to step up her game if she wanted to get rid of Rae. She already had a bad relationship with Rae but, whenever Deven would leave for work, she would ramp up the intensity. Her go-to was mocking Rae or starting arguments with her.
Rae did her best to remain civil, knowing how much her father adored Terri. When she keeps poking at her, though, telling her how much of a failure she is and how much of a burden she is on her father, Rae just couldn't hold back anymore.
“You’re such a bitch!” snapped Rae, glaring at the older woman.
Terri had to hold back her smirk, pretending to be shocked. She had timed it perfectly and Deven had walked in just as Rae was screaming this.
“What is going on here?” he demanded, leaving Rae in shock.
She knew she had stepped right into Terri’s trap.
“Dad, I can explain -“
Terri quickly cut her off, fake tears in her eyes. “Oh, honey, I don’t know what I did wrong! I was just trying to let her know I’m here if she wants to talk and she just snapped at me!”
Deven couldn’t believe it. He knew his daughter could get snippy sometimes because of her problems, but he had never heard her sound so… hateful before. He didn’t understand.
“She’s lying, dad! She was attacking me first -“
“How could you say that to me?” cried Terri. “I just w-wanted to help!” And then she stood up, running from the room dramatically. It seems those drama lessons she took in school were paying off now.
“She’s lying out her ass,” muttered Rae, feeling annoyed by this whole situation. “She’s playing you, dad!”
“Listen to me, Rae.”
“Dad -“
“I said listen!”
Rae was surprised. He had never raised his voice to her before.
“I have given you years to turn your life around, but Terri is right, you’re only getting worse.”
“That’s not -“
“Enough! I’m not putting up with it anymore. You are a young adult now, it’s time for you to take responsibility for your own actions. You need help, Rae, help that I can’t provide you.”
“What are you saying…?”
“I’m sending you to Ashwood Asylum. Pack your bags.”
He stood up, stalking from the room before she could reply.
Ashwood Asylum? She had never heard of such a place! It certainly didn’t sound like a fun place to be, though. Instead of packing as he had commanded, she went straight to the computer to look up information on this place.
According to her research, Ashwood Asylum was founded nearly two hundred years ago, back when Newcrest was Ashcrest. After the disaster that left Ashcrest an ashen waste, the only building that still stood was the asylum. It was abandoned for nearly thirty years until the area was safe to return to.
Ashcrest was renamed to Newcrest in the hopes that people would return, but the disaster was fresh in everyone’s mind and no one wanted to risk it. Currently, Ashwood Asylum is the only building that exists within Newcrest.
‘It looks so rundown,’ she thought with a frown as she looked at the images. ‘More like a prison…’
And she wasn’t far off with her thoughts. A few days later, she and Deven arrived at the asylum. Just seeing the tall fences and the mossy stone building left her feeling a sense of dread she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Dad, please don’t leave me here…”
“Listen to me, Rae. You need help and I’m only hurting you by not getting you that help. I know this is scary, but it’ll be worth it, trust me.”
“How can I trust you when you’re being manipulated by a materialistic witch?”
“Damn it, Rae! I’m tired of being nice. I will not stand here and let you disrespect your mother!”
“She is not my mother and she never will be! Just you wait, she’s going to take you for every simoleon you have!”
The two glared at each other, tense and angry.
“Why hello there! Are you visiting or checking in?” Jasmin Riggs acted as the secretary of the Asylum, though that was not her only job. In truth, she was the director of the place, though it was easier when people thought she was simply the secretary with no real power.
“I’m checking in my daughter to get help. I can’t deal with her anymore.”
“Good!” snapped Rae. “Because I can’t deal with you, either! You’re choosing a woman who doesn’t even love you over your own daughter! Forget it, I’m not your daughter anymore. Just leave!”
“You don’t have to tell me twice!” He snapped, glaring at her before turning on his heel and leaving the asylum.
“Follow me.” Jasmin’s tone had turned much colder after Deven left and she didn’t try to hide her disgust as she unlocked the doors leading into the asylum.
Rae stepped through the door, turning around to ask the woman a question but she wasn’t given a chance to. The woman slammed the doors in her face and Rae could hear the keys jangling and the lock clicking. A slip of paper was shoved under the door before the woman walked away.
She was trapped here, alone and hurt.
With a frown, Rae picked up the slip of paper, finding a room number scrawled on it. Several people were moving about the asylum, talking to themselves or arguing with each other. The wallpaper was dirty and stained, the floor much the same. The air was thick with the smell of mold and dampness.
No one paid her any mind as she made her way toward the back of the asylum where the rooms sat. She checked the number plates on each door, finding hers tucked in the corner against the wall.
A set of white cotton clothing sat on her bed and she sighed deeply, slowly getting changed. She fell onto the uncomfortable bed, frowning at the floor.
How had her life come to this? She had no idea. Was she really ill? Could she really not be helped? It had been a long time since she last felt this hopeless, this lost.
These are her journals.
