Had my first encounter with baboons in my new home. Woke up to the sound of someone in my kitchen and found a big male sitting in front of my fridge eating my eggs. Rainy day today but still filled with beautiful views. Although it was an absolute downpour this morning, we decided to test our luck and head out for some outdoor activities anyway.

First up was to Simonstown to see a colony of African penguins! You can go down to Boulders Beach to see them on the beach, or also walk along a boardwalk where they're within the trees. We opted for the latter and saw cute penguins of all ages - from young chicks to adults ☺️. They don't seem concerned about humans at all, and just mind their own business napping or walking this way and that.

Next we drove south to the Cape of Good Hope (pics 2-3), where a lighthouse atop a hill is a main attraction. We made it up to the lighthouse, and then ended up hiding under it for a while in attempt to avoid the wind and rain...moderate success. Due to the rain we didn't stay long in the area, but happened to randomly see a zebra on the way out! Our first 'big' wildlife spotting so it was all very exciting.

On the way back north, we drove Chapman's Peak Drive (5th picture), a 9km scenic and twisty road which hugs the mountains and gives a beautiful view of the sea and beyond. The weather seemed to clear slightly so we also braved Chapman's Peak hike (pics 6-9). Didn't make it all the way up due to the weather and approaching sunset, but it was GORGEOUS - the variety of flowers, the view of Hout's Bay, Lion's Head and Table Mountain in the distance, etc.
