Akali pauses and the kunai she’s twirling around her finger drops against her hand as it loses its momentum. What an odd topic of conversation. She can’t say they haven’t had similar talks before though. She adjusts her position from a slouch, shoulder brushing against Kalista’s briefly.

“It is,” She agrees, voice rough from how quiet she’s been. “But it’s not something I can say that I’m familiar with.” Fondness or attachment, she’s felt those before. But never love. Or at least, she thinks she never felt love. For one thing, her field of ‘work’ didn’t give her a lot of room to indulge in romantic relationships. Not that she’d want to, anyway. It’s too risky, everyone’s a suspect, and considering that she’s too busy hunting down targets, she lacked the time to put in the effort needed to make it worthwhile for herself and whoever she’d end up with.

With how stoic she is in the face of death or pretty much anything, sometimes she even wondered if she could still be counted as human. While anyone could say that she is one, especially when she’s next to the spectral being, she’d argue that Kalista offered far better company than any other human. It’s easy to forget just what exactly they were during moments like this.

“Why?” She tilts her head towards them curiously. “Do you…” She struggles to phrase the question properly, not wanting to offend the other. “Do you feel love?”

The constant tapping on the window was a thing she was willing to tolerate at first, but after a solid ten minutes of noise it was starting to get on her nerves. Flayn was just passing by this town and night had already hit so she figured it was a good idea to, for once, rent a room at an inn instead of resting in the first secluded area she could find. Usually nobody minded that since most people that recognized her avoided her altogether, and those who didn’t took one glance at her blade and decided it wasn’t worth it to try anything funny.

Here, though, she was trying to relax and read a book but someone thought it would be a good idea to throw pebbles at her window for ten minutes straight. The room was on the second floor, so there was no way whoever was doing it would be tapping it with their fingers. Her annoyance finally hit it’s peak, and she dropped the book on the chair she was sitting on so she could walk at the offending window and open it just to see who was so determined to get on her nerves that night.

She took a good look at the outside of the inn, but the darkness of the night made it hard to see. She squinted her eyes a little, maybe that way she’d be able to-

“BOO!”

The sudden visage that appeared in front of her made her jump backwards, dashing towards the blade she left lying on the desk and unsheathing it ready for combat… Just to sigh and put it down once she realized it was a certain ninja that was currently laughing at the prank she just pulled.

“Dammit Akali. If I had my blade there, I would have slashed your face off.” Flayn said while glaring at her. The former Kinkou simply climbed over the window and invited herself into the room, bringing down her facemask and not stopping her laughter at all.

“Sorry, sorry. Heard you were in town and thought I’d stop by to say hi.” She replied once she finally calmed down. “Hey, by the way, are you busy?”

“I don’t know. Might be.”  The warrior sat down once again and resumed her lecture, though not completely ignoring her newfound company. “Why?”

“Because there’s this tattoo artist down a couple of streets, thought it would be interesting to check out. Why don’t you come with me?”

Flayn sighed and took her eyes out of the book to look at the ninja with a bored expression. It’s not that she didn’t like her or her suggestion at all, she just had a long day and wanted to sit down in peace. Or at least as much peace as she could muster.

“I already have tattoos, Akali.” She responded, eliciting a frown from her.

“I mean, I really wouldn’t count those… Things that you got on your back as actual tattoos.” Akali insisted, taking a seat next to her. “Come on, it’ll be fun. They’re doing a two for one promo, you get one for free if you bring a friend.”

“I said no- “She was about to deny her again, but a certain word made her brain click. “…What did you just say?”

“That they’re doing a promo?” The ninja tilted her head in confusion. Flayn shook her head.

“No, after that.”

“…If you bring a friend?”

“…Yes.”

Friend. That word seemed to have resonated a bit within the Fiend. Ever since that fateful day where her entire life was turned on its head, she walked alone in a path that seemed to have no end. She met several people on her journey, but… Nobody she could feel comfortable calling a friend. Not even her acquittances in the Order of Shadows. Ultimately most of them were just people that she sometimes shared a roof with. Nobody that could be really considered a friend.

“I mean, if you want me to be honest?” Akali spoke again, getting Flayn’s attention once again. “Yeah, you’re kind of an ass sometimes. It’s a bit creepy how you handle some situations, and you’re frankly a horrible judge of character considering the crowd you hang out with. But once you look past that? You’re alright, Flayn.”

The recipient of those words remained silent for a couple of seconds before giggling softly. So that’s what she actually thought, huh?

“You sure don’t pull any punches, but you know what? That’s the damn nicest thing anyone said to me in years.” She got up from her seat and put away her book, instead grabbing a bag filled with gold coins that was lying on the desk. “Let’s go. I’m paying.”

“What happened to ‘I already got tattoos’?” Akali replied with an amused smile.

“Well, I do agree that maybe I could use something more than this blotch on my back. Maybe a dragon in my arm? Or you think a quote would be better?” She said while climbing out of the window she opened previously.

“I have some ideas; I’ll tell you when we get there.”

The ninja followed her out with a jovial chuckle. At least this night was going to be fun.

Serves as her Project verse.

One of the last fully organic people in the city, the mercenary known only as Silverfang is able to operate entirely off the grid, her real identity a mystery.  She prefers to deal with technology as little as possible, choosing to live in an underground bunker devoid of any electronic appliances that PROJECT may be able to use to spy on her and checking her walls and vents regularly for bugs.  Because of her aversion to technology, she’s incredibly difficult to get in touch with.  However, she has an uncanny knack for knowing when she’s needed somewhere, and if she deems your cause worthy of her services, she will find you, not the other way around.

Odyssey Ekko

v: crosses still burn; axes still fall

A young boy from a fringe planet under control of the Demaxian Empire.

When an ora mining accident puts his father out work, Ekko decides to use his skills as a hacker to help his family.  He lies to his parents and tells them that he found work with an IT company in order to support them, when in reality, he is hacking away at the empire’s secrets and selling them off.  In his mind, it’s a win-win, as he gets to help his family and get his revenge against the empire, whom he blames for his father’s accident and the poor living conditions on his home planet.  His mother is a bit suspicious about where the money comes from, but he just kisses her on the cheek and reassures her that IT pays really well these days.
