Idk why so many ppl are saying Blaze was Silver’s cheerleader in 06 when Shadow spent more than half of Heroes being Rouge’s yes man. Heck, most of “This Machine” talks about Rouge, and it’s sung by Shadow.

Why can’t a girl help someone else on their character arc w/out being demeaned for doing so?

Characters can be more than protagonists you know, and tbh, the best characters succeed at being both the main character of the story and an interesting side character in someone else’s.

Have some rants about my fav Sonic ships

Trust me when I say this is not what I intended to do for Valentine's day, but my access to the proper materials for my next big project is currently fairly limited, so instead have this (I didn't think I had so much to say I got a bit carried away 👉👈). This is heavy with aro/ace/aroace discourse because as an aroace myself I cannot help it, and huh, reminder that this is just for fun and everyone's opinions are accepted around here as long as it's respectful :3

Espilver is so wholesome I am willing to temporaly remove the aromantic label I put on both these guys. And when an aroace person is ready to drop this label for a ship you know it has to be good. (They're still both asexual idc tho)

I am prone to shipping Sonic with pretty much everyone (elligible for that at least) while thinking he's the biggest aroace mood ever (but I know I am not alone on that one)

Since I've started posting Sonic fanart, there has not been a SINGLE sonadow ship art, but I still really love this ship. Like it's mostly what got me into Sonic in the first place but I don't want to draw it (honestly I think my mind is just drawn to less popular things, I mean sonadow is already everywhere on my dashboard)

Because (except for espilver) my top ships are sonjet and surgamy, I'm basically shipping your two main hedgehogs who are sometimes implied to have feelings for eachother in a gay relationship with a green person with spiky hair and an attitude, and I thought it was funny because it was NOT on purpose xD

Speaking of sonjet I have like three different timelines existing in my mind with this, because I love the "they never dated but they are definitely exes now"/"they tried smt some time ago it didn't work out" narrative, but also the one where Sonic can be the perfect boyfriend and respond to Jet's needs and issues I imagined for him, and also the one where Jet is a total girlfailure of a man who tries to rizz up someone who has zero clue.

I have thought over and over about Blaze ships and my mind just blocks it. At first I thought it was just Silvaze because I was overprotective of my Silver's orientation (when I first saw it I thought "yeah he's aroace", and I'm not a fan of shipping a guy and a girl just because they interact with eachother and are close). But it's everything. Sonaze? I mean she blushed around him on several occasions, so what? I feel like she's just not used to social interaction. Blazamy? I see the fluff, I see the awesome lesbian couple (and I'm an Utena fan, I gotta love the pink/purple yuri), but it doesn't light up anything in me. Are they any other Blaze ships? Idk, but I can't see her with anyone romantically. Never has a character given me so much aroace vibes that the very forces of nature are preventing me to ship her.

Vectilla activates my brain chemistry like crazy. TF you mean the only "sega-approved" ship is between two grown ass people who are not even part of the main character group? And one is a single mother too? Like it's very simple but it's already a norm breaker in my opinion. Though usually a bunch of male characters have their own personally-crafted love interest, they fall in love for no reason and the love is immediately reciprocal because of course it is (*cough* looking at you ninjago). I think it also work because both Vector and Vanilla have their own things going on, and the romance is just a nice plus. And since Team Chaotix is already the peak of Sonic found family, it's also cool to think about the shenanigans with the children (aka Espio, Cream and Charmy). I am a strong Vectilla shipper and I will make you care about them >:)

A heads up: Each AU is altered in ways anywhere from relationships to genders. A lot of my aus are experimental and for sillies. (Quest, for example, was actually an entire experiment of it's own, I made Tails a girl and older for no reason other than "why not", Tikal is Knuckles' twin, Sonic and Amy are siblings who just lost their parents, Shadow and Maria are both mobians/animals and never were in space, but Maria is still ill and Shadow still experimented on, Rouge is a hermit, idfk that au is insanity.) No stories without Knuxouge, you say? Well, what do you say to this?! It has one entire sentence of implied Wavouge!

Knuxouge is definitely the most frequent background ship for Shadamy, and it’s not hard to see why. Even in the fandom at large, Knuckles is rarely shipped with anyone but Rouge, and Rouge is almost always put with him, too. As of right now, there are 521 Knuxouge stories on AO3. The next most popular Rouge ship is Shadouge with a distant 196, and if Shadow’s with Amy, then Rouge’s only other options are uncommon polyships and rarepairs. Given that Shadamy doesn’t conflict with Knuxouge, they’re likely to run into each other by sheer probability, especially because Shadamy does conflict with most of the other popular ships (Sonadow, Sonamy, Blazamy, etc.).

And that’s without even mentioning the Knuxouge/Shadamy dynamic.

Shadow only has two close friends. It makes sense that the nosy, socially-fluent one who wants what’s best for him would play a sizable role in terms of teasing and matchmaking. And when it comes to fanfics, where Rouge goes, Knuckles usually follows. Knuckles’ next most popular ship on AO3 is Sonknux. They have 348 stories. Closer, but it still can’t hold a candle to Knuxouge’s 521. Even speaking as a Sonknux fan, I was surprised there were even that many, but then I saw 113 of them were posted after Sonic Frontiers was released. Looks like that game convinced more than just me :)

I like Sonouge myself, but Sonic kind of feels redundant in a story like this. He just winds up mirroring Rouge’s role. Knuckles’ personality and friendship with Amy are different and make things more interesting. He’s often seen as an honorary older brother to Amy and he isn’t as open and friendly as Sonic, so it’s feasible that he would be suspicious of Shadow at first, adding in some conflict to counter Rouge’s typical role of matchmaker.

I don’t think I’ll ever delve too much into Knuxouge myself, though. The only other Sonic ship I care enough about to write for is maybe Silvaze, and they don’t mesh as well with Shadamy, so it never feels like there’s room for them. They kind of keep to themselves in my works.

I Was Thinking About A!Silver And Blaze: the post, a/k/a sonic 06 rewrite 2

so i had an idea that In The Bad Future, the chaos emeralds have been lost for so long that they've become hyper-charged from disuse. that's why silver and blaze can use just 2 of them to time travel

two consequences of this are either a) the emeralds Explode when they arrive in the present, causing a chaos energy spike, or b) the present emeralds just appear with them when they travel, which could trigger the investigation that rouge and shadow go on. i'd like to kind of keep the interaction i wrote with blaze and silver being interrogated

blaze is convinced that shadow is the iblis trigger and silver is convinced that it's sonic. they're both wrong. it's still elise

elise is cursed in a different way. she still has iblis sleeping inside her. maybe she just needs to be engulfed by flames? she's fireproof but no one knows it. because you don't just light the baby on fire

i want mephiles to be like her personal attendant. he's been playing the long game by being a crystal bastard in the future and slick and slimy in the present. normal demon guy (this means i must draw him)

i think maybe shadow manages to firmly talk blaze down to convince her that he's NOT the iblis trigger but it takes a bit. he may or may not get lit on fire.

this results in silver's lead being the only one they have, and we follow them around while they chase sonic halfway around the world to soleanna

sonic and elise do have a thing going on. you cannot stop me from making sonelise happen because canon beefed it so hard

i guess i don't know quite how to make it come together yet. but take this scene: silver has sonic in a psychokinetic death grip and blaze has her finger on her flamethrower trigger, but she hesitates, which gives enough time for elise to run in and try and protect him. of course silver immediately drops sonic and blaze is like oh FUCK, but elise parries the flames and absorbs them, and that's what awakens iblis inside her

her curse is a little different here as you can see. but mephiles emerges from the shadows and kidnaps her so they can merge and become solaris together

anyway the gang's gotta come together and split them apart before solaris renders time asunder, and they do indeed do that

they are even able to pull them apart! elise is in a bad way though, as the flames are consuming her, and blaze is the one that takes them from her and synthesizes them with the chaos emeralds. now she has her pyrokinetic powers!

as for mephiles, he's too slippery to kill, so we do have to seal him. shadow in particular is like "i will stick around to kill you as many times as necessary" (mephiles looks like shadow still but does NOT have robot features, not even superficially, implying that the bad future is from a completely different timeline)

anyway. silver and blaze can't go back to their bad future. they're stuck, but they are not so bothered by it. they didn't really have much to go back to. so they learn to live normal lives

blaze gets a princely haircut and dates rouge occasionally. tee hee. i have this image of shadamy going to a GUN formal and rouge has brought blaze as a date. blaze is like "do NOT talk to me about the circumstances that have led me here"

as far as silvaze i think they're off and on. they care deeply for each other and think of each other as family but they have absolutely not explored romantic implications between each other. they'll get there someday, but i think they need more experience with others and then realize "oh we ACTUALLY work. huh"

basically we cut down to a single instance of time travel and smooth out everything else. very simplified plot here

I get the points you're trying to make, and I hope I'm not being rude by pointing some stuff out I disagree with.

But there's plenty of evidence that I showed above that implies Sonic and others remember select things from 06. And Sonic is heavily implied to remember Elise at the end of 06. He wouldn't go out of his way to run past her for no reason. Elise even said he was calling out to her. The look Sonic gives her isn't a look he'd give to a stranger. His smile says everything. He remembers her.

Also I don't think that the sonelise romance should be removed because some don't like it. Instead of removing it, just expand upon it. Develop it more.

As it is in the game, it's underdeveloped. But what there IS of Sonic and Elise's relationship is still sweet. You still see it develop and can tell why Sonic and Elise care about each other. It has potential. And despite people in the fandom being vocal against it, there are still people who love Elise and SonElise and want to see more of the character and the ship. There's enough there to be built upon instead of removing it. Sonic can have more than one love interest.

You shouldn't throw the ship out just because it has flaws. Sonamy has flaws, so does KnucklesxRouge, silvaze, ect.

No ship is perfect

I don't think it's neccesary to make Sonic and Elise's relationship into a non romantic one or a parallel to Shadow and Maria. You can still expand on Elise as a character while expanding on her romance with Sonic.

And also I don't think the Amy glitch should factor in to this at all. It wasn't intended to be part of the game at all. SonElise was the ship that was being more pushed by the game. Yes you have an option to choose Amy, but overall sonelise was the definite ship of the game.

And as far as the twitter takeovers go, I do agree with them being semi canon to an extent. But the thing is that the takeovers themselves aren't canon. They're mostly for fun. It's only when an element from the takeovers makes it into the games is when an aspect becomes canon.

Okay, here we go... I saw some people mention this answer about Sonic forgetting Elise and being upset about it, and thankful that the Takeovers are "not canon", so I'll share my point of view on that and talk about why the Takeovers are semi-canon! (oh boy a long post-) ~~~~

To start: "But Sonic forgetting Elise is absurd! He was the one who put out the flame with Elise, they both should have known about each other." No. They shouldn't have. From the moment the flame went out, everything was reset and started at the point where Sonic was going through the festival. There was no invasion by Eggman at that moment, Elise was not kidnapped, there were no Events of 2006 EVEN though the game is canon. THIS has ALWAYS been a fact since the game's release. And it keeps gaining strength with new media (Sonic x Shadow Generations and mentions that Sonic make in external media).

And I dare even more, not even Silver should know about the events. But if he knows, it's only him and Mephiles, who was ERASED from existence and ended up in WhiteSpace, the Limbo of Sonic's Universe. (As for Silver, he constantly travels through time, he could be the only one who remembers, but I doubt it a little) But the point here is: The representation of the flame going out at the end of 06 is that everything was rewritten in a new way. Things didn't happen that way and that's it.

"But it's absurd. Sonic would never forget Elise, they liked each other!"

I know that in some way there are fans of Sonelise, but I don't think it's right to support their romance so much when it was rushed and totally done in a hurry to make us get some kind of "emotional attachment" to Elise. Elise was the one who showed the most interest in Sonic, even kissing him (geez...), while Sonic, even choosing Elise in the "Trial Of Love", sometimes the game still throws you to Amy's option in a strange glitch. Which doesn't make much sense since theoretically he "would be in love with Elise."

Elise had the potential to be an excellent character and I still believe in that! She was introduced in an obscure game (just like Silver) and we can't deny that fact. She always couldn't cry because she had sealed the Iblis Trigger in herself, she lost her father and had no mother and yet she was the governess of the kingdom of Soleanna. Have you ever thought how much she could have stood out by working on this issue of pressure that she suffers in a deeper way? Instead of Sonic's entire campaign revolving around a somewhat embarrassing romance, have you ever thought how incredible it would be if it focused on how far the line of our responsibilities goes and the fear of failing everyone? Elise could potentially even be an incredible parallel for Blaze being what she is, even if indirectly! There's the other idea of ​​Sonic and Elise being a parallel of sisterhood like Shadow is with Maria, and that's much more captivating than a romance, and I'm sure we'd get much more attached to her knowing that!

Sonic 2006 and plot holes...

Sonic's campaign is the weakest;

Elise is a character who has potential for much more than what we were given;

the time travel issue has many holes like the Blue Chaos Emerald being with Elise the whole time;

Blaze is in the game and we don't even have an explanation for it;

We're very vague about Silver and his future; So, the fact that Sonic and the others "forget" the events is something canonical since the end of the game and has always remained that way.

Now, about the Twitter Takeovers:

The Takeovers are silly and focused on humor, but that doesn't mean there aren't writers behind them!

(Social Media Manager for Sonic's official Twitter account.) This same script is thought by the entire team, since the company's characters are acting! There is a lot of work behind it, which must be recognized! In other words, the information becomes "canonical", since it covers and gives us answers about things that we don't have in the games yet. It's an expansion of the characters, the universe and the story that hasn't been told or fully explored yet, and that's fantastic! The questions are selected based on what they can probably tell us. Whether it's just about Sonic's fur or Shadow's taste for coffee, or even about the Super Transformations and the relationships between the characters. They are Semi-Canons. They are information that adds to our knowledge as fans, but they are not necessarily real, like Sonic breaking the fourth wall. As a fandom, we have to know how to separate some things! That's what makes the Sonic universe unique. Everything can be considered more clues to add to the franchise, but we need to know how to understand the reasons and whys behind it!

Conclusion

I still hope that if Sonic '06 gets a remake, they'll do a good redemption of it, because it deserves it! And who knows, maybe we'll see more of it in the future?
