Deadlands Finale Meta
putting this under a cut because of spoilers for the whole finale episode, but also because i chronically ramble. my Thoughts about the parallels andy made in this episode, the choices certain players made, and the parts that didn't quite add up properly to me
let's start with one of the fun bits: why didn't any of the rings break when their original wielders were killed? especially the ones where the people who would eventually do the tests (say, nate for death) were there? what changed compared to the first time?
it could just be the deadlands, or having all the rings together in victoria's collection, but i think it's the way each horseman was killed. by design of andy as the marshall, each horseman was killed by their own weapon (metaphorically speaking, mostly)
what do i mean by this? well.
War/Benjamin Bellows
bellows' main obsession as a war avatar is with duelling and slaughtering his enemies. who shoot him in the end? nate, the man he killed in a duel, and delacey, the person who duelled through a tournament to get to him. this is also the most obvious point of andy forcing their hand into playing on the horseman's terms - he set it up so they had to compete in the tournament to kill him
Pestilence/Daisy DuCrow
her pestilence domain is shown in a couple ways, but the most important for us are the hole in her skull and her disease transfer machine. the hole, though it lets her poison bobby, also lets silas shoot her. and the machine is used on her client, but also on daisy herself after she dies in order to revive bobby. her death might be by a bullet, but the situation around it is very ironic in nature
Death/M. T. Boudreaux
the most obvious on our list! as a hangin' judge, he hosts show trials and unfairly sentences people to hang. he's also undead. after a show trial where the gang turns the crowd against him, he fails to kill a harrowed and is hung by the posse. hangin' judges literally have to be killed ironically in order to die
Famine/H. Unger
unger's hunger-causing food literally turns people into the cannibalistic faminite monsters, and what stops her in the end? bison billie chewing off her arm after being infected by one of the faminites. she quite literally creates the thing that kills her, and her famine domain is very closely tied to that downfall - if she hadn't been doing it, she would have lived
Conquest/Victoria
obviously they don't attack her before breaking the other rings, but it's worth briefly noting here that the bounty hunters do very much follow her domain, by killing the other horseman and stealing their power - they're really just conquering the domains of every other horseman for themselves
... moving on
ok! now that's out of the way, we get to the actually interesting bit: what's changed the second time? if the posse didn't defy the domains correctly the first time, how did they definitively do it in the finale? here's how:
Garnet vs Famine
the garnet/famine connection is overall a bit weird to me, but she does prove in her section that she can exist without magic - the "something more" that victoria says she's hungry for - by defeating the ghoul on her own. her leaving the deadlands at the end of the episode also arguably shows this, as she's more powerful there than on earth but leaves nonetheless. not much of a betrayal of "famine" in unger's sense but certainly of how victoria describes her
Nate vs Death
in terms of this.... theory? meta? nate is perhaps one of the less strong points, but his scene with delacey does show him not only overcoming the darker parts of his harrowed nature but also actively threatening to shoot himself. compared to the hangin' judge's obsession with his own righteousness and immortality, it certainly feels like nate is breaking victoria's description of him "overcoming death". he might be undead, but nate very much sees the value of mortal things like a life (and money)
Edie vs Pestilence
my favourite segment of the finale! edie is tied to pestilence by victoria due to her grief, which is like a festering disease or infection. and her segment definitely reflects her growing past that - edie being stuck in a memory, trying to protect a brother who already died, literally hurts both edie and the people around her (garnet). it's only when she puts eddie to rest and looks past that "pestilence" of grief that she can go back to helping the people who matter _now_
Delacey vs Conquest
this is a really nice character moment from delacey, and unlike the others, it seems to be almost entirely on the player rather than andy as the marshall. first, note that delacey's linked to conquest because of his violent & competitive streak, which is especially obvious in dead man's worth. he tries to pull his gun on victoria at the beginning of the episode, and he's previously joked about trying to gain supernatural powers like those nate/garnet possess
but when faced with opportunities for power (victoria's offer) and violence (nate attacking him, harmless victoria), delacey doesn't take them. he's the one who wants to kill victoria, he sits down and lets nate slash his chest open, and he reluctantly lets victoria live even though he desperately wants to see her dead. he denies again and again the option of violent conquest like the kind she encourages.
Re: Silas
... and then there's Silas vs War. or rather, there isn't. because as far as i'm concerned silas doesn't ever get that moment. when face-to-face with bellows (which i also find weird), silas accepts bellows' terms and plays by his rules. they duel, just like delacey & bellows did the first time, and silas shoots his neck (familiar, again), and then he angrily kicks bellows into the wall. there's no denial of that anger victoria saw in silas, no denial of bellows and his methods
compared to his big damn hero moment against boudreaux with his lawman's gun, this just felt weird. and that could just be me overthinking, or the dick bit getting in the way of roleplay (not the first time), or andy not finding another way for silas to "face" war in the finale, but what if it's something else?
silas is initially very quiet in the discussion about victoria's proposal (alongside garnet, who seems more interested in getting the rings' powers than anyone else), and happily admits to her appraisal of him. bellows is also the only one of the horseman who wasn't obviously supernatural in his first appearance, and the only one who comes back physically "alive" in the finale (because he's in service to victoria). through this lens, it feels like there's something very clearly different about silas and bellows than about the other members of the crew.
maybe that's on purpose. maybe silas only really stopped benjamin bellows, and not the horseman of war. would certainly be cool if silas Changed next season :)
(or maybe it's just a writing choice i don't like and i'm going to write an alternate timeline fic about it <3 you never know)
tldr;
the horseman can only be beaten properly when the "new horseman" proves victoria wrong, but silas didn't, and wouldn't it be nice if that paid off somehow

“ it’s only a matter of time until you realize your friends are the ones who’re killing you. “ - Klaus
An Alternate Universe feat @snnydcys. Written & created by Lumi & Brianna.
NPCs: Stefan Salvatore, Qetsiyah, Silas, Amara, Klaus & Elijah Mikaelson, Elena Gilbert, Katia Roe (oc) Liliana Roe (oc), Tatia.
Headcanons found here.
1st century B.C.E.
— Everyone knows the story of Qetsiyah and her never ending love for Silas. The two most powerful witches the world has ever known. She laid madly in love with Silas; so, born the first immortality elixir to create their desire of forever become a reality. It was only until Qetsiyah discovered Silas to be in love with her handmaiden, Amara. Elixir whom belonged to Qetsiyah and Silas, now running in the veins of Silas and his one true love; The witch created the cure for immortality — also, creating an elixir to protect her best friend from Silas as she knew that Silas would be freed from being entombed or her spell being altered and recreated.
The elixir was specifically created for Katia Roe, a dear friend of Qetsiyah. The only closest thing she has ever had in her life with undying loyalty. The elixir was said to protect the Roe bloodline from vampire compulsion only by taking the elixir every day until death. The elixir was to be passed down from generation to generation. Qetsiyah, hand choosing witches deemed trusting from the other side to become a personal witch for any Roe lineage. It was successful as the first vampires, The Original Family, were born.
10th century B.C.E
Liliana Roe resided in Mystic Falls grounds before it was known to be Mystic Falls. A small village where The Mikaelsons lived. Catching the attention of Klaus & Elijah due to her beauty, pure intentions, and kind heart. However, Tatia, the first doppelgänger had also caught the attention of the two brothers. Both ladies choosing Elijah instead of Klaus. However, Elijah had chosen Liliana and little did Elijah know — Klaus also chose Liliana. Enraged by this, Klaus helped his mother Esther re-create the immortality spell with Tatia’s blood. Eventually, the family becoming The Original vampire Family.
Newly reborn Elijah wanted to tell Liliana about his immortality. However, when searching for Liliana, she was nowhere to be found. Her cottage found bloodied and a disaster. Elijah, assuming she was killed, was heartbroken. This heartbreak lead to him killing Tatia out of pain and anguish.
Little did they know that Liliana survived the attack. Being protected by the witch assigned to her by Qetsiyah, the witch retrieves the body of Liliana, healing it while her soul is with Qetsiyah in the other side. Not wanting to risk the Roe lineage, Qetsiyah instructs the witch to discontinue to elixir, let the living Roe families to change their surname to Munroe, & place Liliana’s body under the White Oak tree. The elixir, now extinct — the future of the Munroe lays in question.
21st century
So, the Roe, now Munroe generations continue. The elixir extinct and the current Munroes unknowingly of the existence of Vampires. However, in the small town of Mystic Falls, a new family moves in next door to the Gilbert residence. Welcomed by the Gilberts, Sonny and Elena become close friends. Being in the same age range, the two hit it off quickly. However, history as told — a Roe finds themselves again in the presence of a doppelgänger. Tiny quickly moves as Sonny says her goodbyes to Elena, moving to Wisconsin and living a life that will soon be welcomed back to a not so normal life.
Sonny returns to Mystic Falls — ready for college. Keeping a long distance friendship with Elena Gilbert, once returning the friends attend the same campus. But, the reunion of Elena and Sonny only triggered the elixir that ran in her veins. Of course, the elixir itself was long extinct. However, the elixir continued to run down in the family — only weakening as the generations distanced from the original families who had to digest the elixir physically. Unknowingly, the two friends became closer, Elena introducing her friends to her — including the Salvatore brothers.
Elena updated her friend, trusting her with the secret of immortality, Stefan being her boyfriend, and Damon being the complete jerk he was. Damon and Sonny didn’t get along with each other at first. Always bickering, bullying each other, and making each other upset. It was only until Damon attempted to compel her to walk into the busy road and let herself be struck by car. But, Sonny couldn’t be compelled. Damon, confused, re-attempted the compel only to be continuously be told it didn’t work. Taking Sonny back to the Salvatore home to share the news with everyone, The group began to find the reasoning to why Sonny couldn’t be compelled as she was human without vervain on her. Until, Stefan began to reach out to Elijah. Thinking maybe they would recognize the phenomenon.
Elijah orders to bring Sonny to him in New Orleans. Damon, volunteers to take her. The two road trip to New Orleans, learning about one another more in depth and creating a close bond. Once in New Orleans, the two meet up with Elijah. Elijah shares that Sonny’s existence is impossible as her lineage ended in the tenth century. He only realizes this is false when Elijah attempts to compel her without luck. Falling into suspicion, Elijah calls Klaus to see them. Once Klaus arrives, he too attempts to compel her by asking her to stab herself. Only Elijah learns of the truth..
“ the Roe family ended a long time ago… I know this because I was the one to end it. “ - Klaus to Elijah.
Klaus had killed Liliana due to the fact that when he tried to compel her to choose him instead of Elijah with the promise of immortality, she couldn’t be compelled. This irritated Klaus, and wanted answers why she couldn’t be compelled. However, Liliana didn’t accept his offer but did share valuable information. Klaus, tortured and killed Liliana.
Upon learning the information given about the elixir and the history, Klaus was surprised to learn the Roe family continued. Sonny learned that the elixir continued to run into her family — but only triggering it by being surrounded by the doppelgängers her descendant’s best friend despised. Elijah was willing to protect Sonny from any harm Klaus had in mind, willing to search for more answers as Klaus shared being surrounded by her friends Stefan and Elena could potentially kill her, also due to the love he carried for Liliana.
Back at the Salvatore home, Damon fights with Sonny about distancing herself from his brother and Elena. Unknowingly, trying to compel her in front of the Doppelgängers, Sonny experiences her first near death experience. Elijah was miles away near Mystic Falls as he found some information on a witch who could potentially be of help. However, Liliana has been given life by Qetsiyah. Rising, Liliana follows the vibrating energy her descendant gives — eventually leading her to the Salvatore home & being able to heal Sonny with her blood. Taking Sonny outside, away from the doppelgängers, Elijah arrives and the memories flood back. He’s in awe. Damon decides to take Sonny out of town where the two begin to fall for each other all the while Elijah and Liliana catch up and try to make up for the missing time.

After having watched the finale, I'd like to make some amendments too this post!
First, Aunt Hilde would fit Edith, from the perspective that they're both wanting to help as many people as possible (ending world hunger; ridding the world of monsters) and they'll do it through whatever means they have.
But hold up now. Each of the bounty targets were the 4 Horsemen, so things do change ever so slightly here. And it's interesting how Victoria tried to sell them on their roles, but the way she did it almost felt half hearted. Like she's doing all of this, continuing the apocalypse out of obligation, not necessarily desire. Most of all, she seems to want connection and trust, but she'll accept purpose and sacrifice if that's all she has left.
As for the characters, I feel she was right in some regards.
Silas Flint is war. The rage, the violence, the punching, it all fits. But he also has a strange sense of justice that war usually has as well. Usually with each side believing their in the right, or trying to get justice at another country for a perceived wrong. In a way, Silas feels like the Greek god Ares, which is befitting of War anyway.
Delacy as conquest also fits very well, for the reasons he's stated. I don't have much more to add. But I also feel Delacy would fit well as death. Not because he's experienced it, but because of how quick he is to deal it. His first instinct is too shoot (much as Silas's is too fight). But unlike Silas, Delacy shoots too kill almost all of the time.
But Victoria did get some. .wrong.
Nathaniel Jensson is pestilence, clear as day. Sure, he's experienced death, but I would sooner say he'd win a footrace then say he's at all mastered it. But he has mastered the calling of insects. And as a walking corpse, he carries disease with him everywhere he goes (or, at least the opportunity too).
Edith Valentine, would make a great conquest. Part of conquest is not simply the achieving of things, but the will and drive to preserver until you have. (Not that Delacy doesn't have that, but he fits death and we need too shuffle the cards around a little bit). Edie's drive is the loss of her brother. It's what's been driving her to do everything she's doing now. Hunting monsters, playing a saloon girl to get by. All of it is for the memory of the one she lost. And so she seeks to conquer so that never happens to anyone again.
Of course, that leaves Garnet with Famine. While, like my earlier version of this post this feels like a filling of the gaps, it also somehow feels right. There's a connection to Gambling. The idea of "The house always wins", with everyone else walking away empty handed, or they stay at the table and lose more then they can.
Of course, these are just my theories regarding all of this, and I do hope we get too see more of these characters again. They were absolutely fantastic to watch.
You know, the bounties that the Oxventures are hunting in Deadlands seem to mirror/be like an evil future alternative some of their characters quite well, and I wonder if it means anything.
potential spoilers below? For all the episodes at least.
Benjamin Bellows very much reflects Delacy. A trigger-happy marksman, who's very prone to violence. Delacy could've definitely ended up like Bellows if he had different companions in his early journeys, I can definitely see that.
It's the others in Delacy's life that will prevent him from becoming like Bellows.
Justice Mortimer Todd Bu Dreau (I can't believe that's how it's actually spelt) very obviously is reflective of Silas Flint. Someone who has their own idea of what justice is and will zealously commit too dealing that justice out, while also having anger management issues. Again, I believe the major difference might be the company both keep, but in Silas's case, it also might very well be seeing the extreme end that his path could take, as ot id very likely he wouldn't notice his small changes too the extreme. Kinda like a ghost of Christmas future sorta thing.
Daisy Du Crow is a bit harder to place, and for some reason my gut instinct says Edith? Probably cause she was the only other player there and Andy seems to like having the plays witnessing their dark alternatives. I do wish I had more insight on this pairing, but I just don't know enough yet.

Chapters: 2/2 Fandom: Oxventure (Web Series) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Silas Flint/Edie Valentine, Silas Flint & Garnet Munro & Edie Valentine Characters: Silas Flint, Edie Valentine, Garnet Munro Additional Tags: garnet is very background but she talks and i like her so shes listed, Mutual Pining, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Asexual Character, Asexual Silas Flint, Waltzing, Flirting, Banter, Miscommunication, Love Confessions, Friends to Lovers Summary:
It wasn’t like sex scared Silas. Of course not. It just didn’t seem all that pleasant, and he didn’t particularly like the thought of looking at naked ladies, and he liked the idea of them looking at him naked even less. Nudity made him uncomfortable. Kissing was fine, but sometimes people would get handsy and that made squirmy shivers run down his spine. And well, maybe in some small way, it seemed intimidating. Lots of expectations, perhaps. But not scary. Silas was a grown man. Really, he didn’t think about it much in general. He didn’t have a reason to, too busy with his work. Justice was a full-time job. Anywhere Edie went, his eyes lingered on her. Too busy with his work to care.
woe, deadlands fic be upon thee <3 acehet silas my dearly beloved. technically i posted this yesterday, but i wanted to wait til i finished the second chapter before throwing it on tumblr :P

I remembered my question ~~while eating ice cream with Jet~~!
It doesn't have to be Cafe Noir though actually! If you had to choose ONE song for each of your characters (either all of them or any of your choice 😊) what would it be?
P.S. I might not give Jet back for 2-3 business days but I will treat him very nicely, I promise! 😅
P.P.S. hoping this silliness amuses you 😄
I'm so glad you remembered!! And that's quite alright, Jet won't mind it one bit, he loves any ounce of attention and kindness he can get!
I really like this ask! So it's probably gonna get long because I wanna do Café Noir characters and my murdersim characters. Also the silliness is much appreciated and welcome 😊
