It is one of the five kakars or 5Ks — external articles of faith — that identify a Sikh as dedicated to their religious order. The kara was instituted by the tenth Sikh Guru Guru Gobind Singh at the Baisakhi Amrit Sanskar in 1699. Guru Gobind Singh Ji explained. He does not recognise anyone else except me, not even the bestowal of charities, performance of merciful acts, austerities and restraint on pilgrim-stations; the perfect light of the Lord illuminates his heart, then consider him as the immaculate Khalsa. The kara is to constantly remind the Sikh disciple to do God's work, a constant reminder of the Sikh's mission on this earth and that he or she must carry out righteous and true deeds and actions, keeping with the advice given by the Guru. The Kara is a symbol of unbreakable attachment and commitment to God. It is in the shape of a circle which has no beginning and no end, like the eternal nature of God. It is also a symbol of the Sikh brotherhood. As the Sikhs' holy text the Guru Granth Sahib says "In the tenth month, you were made into a human being, O my merchant friend, and you were given your allotted time to perform good deeds."[3] Similarly, Bhagat Kabir reminds the Sikh to always keep one's consciousness with God: "With your hands and feet, do all your work, but let your consciousness remain with the Immaculate Lord." The basic kara is a simple unadorned steel bracelet, but other forms exist. It was historically used like a knuckle-duster for hand-to-hand combat. Battlefield variations include kara with spikes or sharp edges. Sikh soldiers of the British Indian army would settle disputes by competing in a form of boxing known asloh-musti (lit. iron fist) with a kara on one hand. Brilliant finish and very decorative. Ok I get where everyone is coming from when they see the design of Pavitr ‘Pav’ Prabhakar aka Indian SpiderMan as an expression of gender queerness, but let me be frank this is very typical Indian male costuming.
Even the toxic masculine patriarchal men have similar stylistic expressions or to be be more precise this is a traditional/historical/ye olde male aesthetic.
Having said that I love what design elements are being used here. So…
Let's take it from the top.
The FACE MASK

The Three Colors surrounding the eyes are typical spider man colours but they are done to evoke the image the traditional makeup done for the ancient dance art Kathakali. In which the whole face is painted and bold lines are drawn to emphasise/exaggerate the eyes. These eye mask lines are usually thin - bold-thin.

Same with the white lines on the cheek bones which are indicative of tusks or pincers of demons or Animorphs in folklore/myths.

The white dot in the centre of the forehead is the most common Hindu motif, expressed in myriad of ways all over the country .

The ARM/LEG BANDS/CUFFS

The bicep cuff is a part of Indian historic armour - made of malleable metal, its bejewelled ornate counterparts were then worn in day to day life. Here in the north Royals still wear it during big ceremonies. These metal bands are generally worn by warriors.

bangles (metal circles worn at wrists) are an important male accessory and are more daily wear even in present modern times, some religions (Sikh,Jain etc.) require the males to always wear one at all times. The ones on the suit were more in the shape of wrist guards which again were an armour accessory. In Indian male clothing the cuffs are usually emphasised.

Due to traditional male footwear being sandals metal ankle cuffs were employed to guard the shins and were worn during wars while thinner bands - ornamental accessories - were worn in daily wear.
There are so many other things I want to elaborate on like: The PATTERNS/LOGO,The LEG GARMENT (??!)(what’s the collective term for clothes for legs?), The Cat’s Cradle swinging/body animation ; but my ADHD is already acting up so imma leave this here.
SIDE NOTE:
I love how the heel and toes are bare in this design. It makes sense from the spider powers perspective - no barrier in contact allows for better manoeuvring and jump control as is seen in gymnastics. But also because in Hindu culture important tasks including some traditional sports require the removal of footwear and getting feet dirty is not discouraged (of course with an adherence to washing of the feet multiple times in a day)
I also loved how incorporated his wrist guard is in his spider style using it as a toy and a tool. This aspect of making use of something in a completely different way was so desi ‘Jugaad’ I was stunned.

My 'KHAYALI PULAO'
(These are the snippet I wanted to see in IPKKND. After every rewatch, I just close my eyes and these imaginary scenes flash through my mind like they are actual scene. I am trying to articulate them here for my future recap. so that I can read them later and also hoping that some day an AI app will come where I can input these scripts and a scene will produce from the app😁😁)
His Everything
(bolna kya sikh liya ab hume hi chup kara dete hain, khushi musing in her head, Arnav smiling at his wife's antics searched his pockets for something and brought out a small red jewellary box)
Arnav: ye hain tumari sagun, meri taraf se.(surprising khushi, a smile started to form in her lips) common open it.
Arnav: it is your gift from me (surprising khushi, a smile started to form in her lips) common open it.
(khushi opening a Jewellary box revealing a pair of dainty gold bangle inside it.simple yet so elegant.she took them in her hand and looked at Arnav)
Arnav: iske andhar khuch likha hain, see.
Arnav: there's something written inside,see.
(khushi being perplexed looking inside the band of the bangles. there written the line 'you are my everything' in simple artistic way..khushi got very emotional.the number of time she heard 'you meant nothing to me' from him.now in her bedroom,at the day of her sagun day with that very person, holding a bangle that would be her favourite that she would never take off and seeing the writings inside it, acted like a balm to a sore she didn't realize she had.On the other hand Arnav couldn't stand the emotional air any longer,he knew it would be very cheesy, but he wanted to give her someting memorable and without any further thinking went with the flow, but at this moment thinking he should have think more.he started to talk)
Arnav: itna bhi bura nehi hain jo tum isko dekhke ro do. (he took the bangles and proceed to slid them slowly in her wrist.then he took both of her hand around his waist and bring her closer making her to look up at his eyes)
Arnav: it's not that bad that you'll start crying.(he took them from her hand and proceed to slid them slowly in hers.then he took both of her hand around his waist and bring her closer making her to look up at his eyes)
Khushi: (reining her emotion and smiling through her tears) bohot accha hain.
khushi : (reining her emotion and smiling through her tears) it's very beautiful.
Arnav: ese hi ek bangle tum pehle bhi pehenti thi na? bohot din se tumari hat main nehi dekha. kya hua uska?
Arnav: a bangle like that you used to wear everyday before, you haven't wore it for long time.what happened to it?
khushi: (being surprised) upko kese pata?
khushi: (being surprised) how do you know?
Arnav: mujhe tumari har baat ki khabar rehti hain, khushi kumari gupta.
Arnav: i keep tab on everything about you, khushi kumari gupta
khushi: woh apko yaad hain ekbar humne apke office main lavanya ji ke nam pe bohot saree paude laye the?woh sab humne woh churiya bech ke kiya tha,woh meri amma ki thi.
khushi: did you remember one time I brought lots of plant in your office on behalf of lavanya ji? I brought them by selling the bangles.
Arnav:(frowning and feeling an anger forming out of irritation at the selflessness of this girl) Apni churiya bech ke?(pause) pagal ho kya tum?
Arnav: (frowning and feeling an anger forming out of irritation at the selflessness of this girl) by selling your bangles? (pause) are you mad?
Khushi : (smiling and proceed to fix his tie, pouting her lips slightly) apko toh sab pata hain na hamari bare main, par ap kya e jante hain ke apke liye hum kuch bhi kar sakte hain? hume lagta tha ke lavanya ji aur ap ek dushre se pyaar (a slight catch in her voice) karte thein aur hamare bajayse apka rista thut geya, isliye humne....(she trails off)
Khushi : (smiling and proceed to fix his tie, pouting her lips slightly) you know everything about me, huh? but do you know that I can do anything for you? I thought that you and lavanya ji loved each other (a slight catch in her voice) and because of me you two broke up. That's why I..... (she trails off)
(but Arnav was having a heart numbing realization with flashbacks of a morning in a terrace with him in a white shirt and her in a blue salwar kamiz, when she was minute away from jumping from the edge of the roof.he never gave any serious thought to this incidence, always brush aside as her childish ploys to compell him to reveal the truth of their marriage. but for the first time since that happened he was seeing the whole picture)
Arnav: (whispering) tum usdin chad pe? tum sach main kud ne wali thi? how dare you khushi?tum abhi iss (pause) bakht mujhe promise karo ke (pause) tum (pause) phir se esa karne ke baremain (pause) kabhi sochogi bhi nahi.(getting agitated by the minutes but he was whispering all of these) promise me dammit.tum esa soch bhi kese sakte ho?(still whispering)
Arnav: That day on terrace? you were serious about jumping? how dare you khushi? you right now (pause) promise me that (pause) you will never ever (pause) think about doing such thing again (getting agitated by the minutes but he was whispering all of this) promise me damn it. how can you even think about doing it? (still whispering)
khushi:( fully understand his turmoil at this moment which she wouldn't have before as she didn't know the past, place her hands on both side of his face, barely concealing her own tear, nodding her head feverantly)shhhh, hum wada karta hain.
khushi:(now fully understand his turmoil, place her hands on both side of his face, barely concealing her own tear, nodding her head feverantly)shhhh, i promise.
(Arnav drew her close to him hugging her tightly to himself, thinking how close he was to lose his everything, almost walking in the road of his late mother)

A Complete Guide to the Different Types of Bangles
Bangles are timeless accessories that have adorned wrists for centuries, representing cultural heritage, tradition, and personal style. Available in a variety of materials, designs, and styles, bangles can be both traditional and contemporary. This guide explores the different types of bangles, their significance, and how to style them for different occasions.

The Cultural Significance of Bangles
Bangles hold deep cultural and symbolic meanings across the world. In India, they are worn by brides as a sign of prosperity and marital happiness, while in other cultures, they symbolize status, wealth, and spiritual beliefs. Over the years, bangles have evolved beyond tradition and have become fashion statements embraced globally.
Types of Bangles
1. Metal Bangles
Metal bangles, often made of gold, silver, or platinum, are widely cherished for their durability and elegance. Gold bangles are especially significant in Indian culture, symbolizing prosperity and marital bliss. Silver bangles, on the other hand, are known for their health benefits and aesthetic appeal. Platinum bangles, though rare, offer a luxurious and modern touch.
2. Glass Bangles
Glass bangles are vibrant, delicate, and widely worn in South Asia. These bangles come in various colors and are often associated with celebrations and festivals. In Indian weddings, brides wear red and green glass bangles as a symbol of good fortune and happiness. The delicate tinkling sound they make is also considered auspicious.

3. Lac Bangles
Lac bangles are handcrafted from natural resin and are known for their intricate designs and bright colors. These bangles are especially popular in Rajasthan, India, and are often embellished with beads, stones, and mirror work. They are lightweight, making them comfortable to wear for extended periods.
4. Wooden Bangles
Eco-friendly and stylish, wooden bangles offer a unique, rustic appeal. They are commonly hand-painted or carved with intricate patterns and are perfect for casual or bohemian looks. Wooden bangles can also be polished or coated with lacquer for a glossy finish, adding an earthy charm to any outfit.
5. Plastic Bangles
Affordable and available in countless designs, plastic bangles are a popular choice for everyday wear. They come in a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes, making them a fun and versatile accessory. They are especially popular among young girls and are often mixed with other types of bangles to create stylish stacks.
6. Stone-Studded Bangles
These bangles are adorned with precious or semi-precious stones, enhancing their beauty and making them ideal for special occasions. Gemstones like rubies, emeralds, and diamonds add a touch of elegance to any outfit. Stone-studded bangles are often paired with traditional attire for weddings and festive celebrations.
7. Thread Bangles
Thread bangles, wrapped in colorful silk or cotton threads, are lightweight and stylish. They are often handcrafted and can be customized with beads, pearls, and charms to match different outfits. These bangles provide a unique blend of tradition and modernity, making them suitable for both ethnic and casual ensembles.
8. Kada Bangles
Kada bangles are thick, rigid, and usually made of metal. They are a significant part of Sikh and Punjabi culture, often worn by both men and women as a symbol of strength and faith. Some kada bangles are intricately designed with engravings, while others are simple and unadorned, representing spiritual devotion.
9. Cuff Bangles
Unlike traditional bangles, cuff bangles have an open-ended design, making them easy to wear and adjust. They are modern, stylish, and available in a variety of materials like metal, leather, and resin. Cuff bangles are perfect for stacking with other bracelets or wearing as standalone statement pieces.
10. Acrylic Bangles
Acrylic bangles are lightweight and available in vibrant colors and patterns. They are perfect for casual wear and can mimic the look of glass or metal bangles without the fragility or heaviness. These bangles are great for adding a pop of color to any outfit and are particularly trendy among fashion-conscious individuals.
How to Style Bangles for Different Occasions
Bangles can be styled in multiple ways to enhance any outfit. Here are some styling tips:
Traditional Events & Weddings: Opt for gold, stone-studded, or glass bangles paired with ethnic attire like sarees or lehengas for an elegant look.
Casual Outings: Wooden, thread, or acrylic bangles complement casual outfits and give a fun, boho-chic vibe.
Office & Formal Wear: Minimalist metal or cuff bangles add a touch of sophistication to professional attire without being too flashy.
Festivals & Celebrations: Lac or brightly colored bangles can make any festive outfit stand out.
Layering & Mixing: Mix different types of bangles, such as metal with thread or glass with wooden bangles, to create a unique, personalized stack.
Conclusion
Bangles are more than just accessories—they carry deep cultural and personal significance. Whether you prefer the elegance of metal bangles, the vibrancy of glass bangles, or the modern appeal of cuff bangles, there is a style to suit every occasion. significance of green bangles
The steel kada is a simple yet powerful accessory, commonly worn by Sikhs and individuals of various backgrounds for its cultural significance, physical benefits, and symbolic meaning. Originating in Sikhism, the kada is a circular bangle typically made of steel, representing strength, unity, and an unbreakable bond with ethical values. Beyond its cultural meaning, the steel kada is also considered beneficial for physical health and mental well-being. Here’s a closer look at the multifaceted benefits of wearing a steel kada.
1. Cultural Significance and Personal Symbolism
The steel kada holds a prominent place in Sikh culture and is one of the "Five Ks" worn by Sikhs to symbolize commitment to their faith and values. For Sikhs, the kada is a constant reminder of the virtues of honesty, humility, and compassion. Its circular shape, with no beginning or end, represents eternity and the continuity of life, reminding the wearer to stay connected to their roots and values. Even beyond Sikhism, the kada is appreciated by people from different cultures who wear it as a symbol of strength, protection, and resilience. Wearing a steel kada serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical living, unity, and the resilience required to face life’s challenges.
2. Health Benefits: Improved Blood Circulation and Joint Health
Wearing a steel kada is believed to offer certain health benefits, although these are rooted more in traditional beliefs than scientific studies. One commonly suggested benefit is its potential to improve blood circulation. When worn on the wrist, the kada applies gentle pressure to the pulse points, which may help stimulate blood flow in the hand and fingers. This improved circulation could be particularly helpful for those who experience stiffness or discomfort in their wrists or hands. For some wearers, the steel kada may even offer relief from minor joint pains, as it helps maintain natural movement in the wrist area.
3. Emotional Well-being: Grounding and Calming Effects
Steel is considered a grounding material, associated with stability and focus. Wearing a steel kada can be calming, promoting emotional balance by providing a sense of connection to one's values and grounding energy. The kada’s weight and presence on the wrist act as a gentle reminder to remain present, mindful, and connected to personal beliefs and traditions. This grounding effect can be especially helpful during stressful or overwhelming situations, giving the wearer a sense of inner strength and resilience.
4. Hypoallergenic and Durable Material
One practical benefit of a steel kada is that it is hypoallergenic and safe for most skin types, unlike some metals that can cause irritation or allergic reactions. Stainless steel is a popular choice for kadas because of its durability and resistance to rust and tarnish. This makes it ideal for everyday wear, as it can withstand regular activities and still maintain its shine and quality over time. Wearing a steel kada ensures that you don’t have to worry about skin reactions, making it suitable for both sensitive and active individuals.
5. Spiritual and Mental Benefits
Many people wear a steel kada to strengthen their sense of self-discipline and focus. The kada acts as a reminder to adhere to one’s values, encouraging moral integrity and ethical living. For those who practice mindfulness, the kada can serve as a focal point during meditation, enhancing spiritual growth. The simplicity of the kada, combined with its strong symbolism, allows wearers to feel more connected to their spiritual journey and personal purpose.
6. Versatility and Style
Beyond its health and cultural benefits, the steel kada is a versatile piece that complements a wide range of outfits, from traditional attire to modern styles. Its understated design allows it to be worn by people of all ages, genders, and styles, making it an appealing accessory for many. The simplicity of the steel kada adds a unique charm, letting it serve as a subtle statement of strength and identity without drawing excessive attention.
In conclusion, the steel kada is more than just an accessory; it’s a meaningful piece that embodies cultural heritage, emotional grounding, and physical wellness. Whether worn for religious, personal, or health-related reasons, the steel kada carries a unique blend of significance that enhances the life of the wearer. It serves as a constant reminder of resilience, inner strength, and values, making it a valuable part of daily life for many people across the world.

Embracing Tradition: The Significance of Wedding Bangles
In Indian weddings, particularly in North Indian and Punjabi cultures, bridal chura or traditional wedding bangles hold an emotional and cultural significance that has been passed down through generations. These bangles aren’t merely ornaments; they represent a bride’s journey into her new life, blessings from her family, and the customs that bind her to her roots. In recent years, bridal chura trends have evolved, with brides choosing to add personal touches that reflect both tradition and individuality. Let's dive into the cultural depth of wedding chura and explore how modern styles and personalization make these bangles even more special.
1. The Cultural Essence of Wedding Chura
The wedding chura set, traditionally red and white, symbolizes good luck, love, and prosperity for the bride as she steps into her new life. In traditional Punjabi and Sikh weddings, it is believed that these bangles shield the bride from negative energy and bring blessings to her and her husband’s future together. Typically made of ivory and embellished with gold and stone designs, wedding churas are considered essential bridal bangles for weddings.
2. Bridal Chura Ceremonies and Symbolism
A pivotal moment in the wedding festivities is the chura ceremony, where the bride’s maternal uncle and aunt place these bangles on her wrists. This ceremony often includes blessings, family prayers, and sometimes the attachment of kaleere, decorative danglers symbolizing well-wishes for the bride’s happiness. The chura remains with the bride for a traditional period, often up to 40 days, and removing it is a symbolic end to the initial stage of her married life.
3. Evolution and Trends in Bridal Chura Designs
With modern bridal fashion, chura designs have expanded to suit individual tastes, while still maintaining their cultural significance. Today's bridal chura trends offer everything from minimalist designs to intricate churas with embellishments and patterns. These updated styles allow brides to match their wedding chura with their overall attire while expressing their unique style.
4. Customization in Wedding Chura
For brides seeking a more personal touch, custom wedding chura options allow the addition of meaningful symbols, names, or dates. Many brides now prefer adding gold or silver bangles to their traditional chura or incorporating pastel hues that match the wedding’s color scheme. Customizing these bangles is a way for brides to celebrate their new journey while keeping family tradition alive.
5. Wedding Chura as a Timeless Indian Bridal Accessory
Beyond fashion, the wedding chura serves as a constant reminder of the bride's family and loved ones, symbolizing their support as she embarks on her new life. Alongside other Indian bridal accessories such as maang tikka, anklets, and earrings, the bridal chura completes her traditional look, adding a touch of elegance and heritage to her attire.
6. Guidelines for Wearing and Removing the Chura
The tradition of wearing the chura varies; some brides wear it for 40 days, while others choose to keep it on for an entire year. When it’s time for removal, some families have a chura removal ceremony to mark the occasion. For brides wondering, “Can chura be removed and worn again?”—while traditionally, it is a one-time wear, modern customs allow brides to re-wear or store them as a keepsake.
7. How to Choose Your Bridal Chura
Selecting the perfect bridal chura involves choosing designs that resonate with your style while honoring tradition. Look for chura designs that blend with your bridal outfit and reflect your personality. With options in vibrant colors, mixed metals, and detailed carvings, today's brides have a wide array of choices to make their wedding chura truly memorable.
8. Preserving and Cherishing Wedding Chura
After the wedding, some brides choose to store their chura as a cherished memory, while others may pass it down as a family heirloom. Keeping the chura in good condition allows it to be a lasting reminder of the special day and the love and blessings it symbolizes.
In essence, wedding churas are more than just bangles—they are symbols of love, blessings, and the timeless beauty of Indian bridal accessories. With evolving trends and customization options, bridal chura continues to celebrate the bond between tradition and modernity, allowing each bride to carry a part of her heritage while expressing her unique identity.

Toronto to Three Indian Gems: Amritsar’s History, Hyderabad’s Heritage & Bangalore’s Innovation
Traveling from Toronto to India offers a gateway to three incredible destinations: Amritsar, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. Each city stands as a pillar of India's diverse landscape, rich with history, culture, and modern innovation. Whether you're drawn by the spiritual serenity of Amritsar, the historic heritage of Hyderabad, or the dynamic tech scene in Bangalore, this journey across India promises an unforgettable experience. In this post, we’ll explore the highlights of each city and why these destinations are well worth a visit.
Toronto to Amritsar: A Step Into Spiritual and Historical Depth
Amritsar, located in the northern state of Punjab, is home to one of India’s most sacred sites—the Golden Temple. The direct flights from Toronto to Amritsar make it easier for those looking to delve into this spiritual journey. As soon as you step into the city, the spiritual aura of Sikhism will draw you in. The Golden Temple, shimmering in the center of a tranquil pool, is not just an architectural marvel but a spiritual experience that invites people from all walks of life.
Visiting the Golden Temple at sunrise or sunset, when the temple's golden façade glows in the light, is a soul-stirring experience. Don’t miss the opportunity to partake in the langar, the community kitchen that serves free meals to thousands daily, embodying the Sikh principles of equality and service.
Beyond the Golden Temple, Amritsar is steeped in history. The Jallianwala Bagh memorial, which marks the tragic 1919 massacre, serves as a poignant reminder of India’s struggle for independence. Strolling through Amritsar’s vibrant bazaars, tasting the authentic flavors of Punjabi cuisine, and feeling the strong cultural identity of the city make it a rewarding start to your Indian adventure.
Toronto to Hyderabad: The City of Nizams and Culinary Heritage
From the northern plains of Punjab, a flight from Toronto to Hyderabad introduces travelers to the heart of India’s Deccan region. Known as the "City of Pearls," Hyderabad boasts a blend of royal history, architectural wonders, and a thriving culinary scene. As soon as you arrive, the city’s rich cultural fabric becomes apparent.
Hyderabad's historical core is dominated by the grand Charminar, a 16th-century monument that is emblematic of the city’s Islamic heritage. Just a stone's throw away lies the Chowmahalla Palace, once the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty. Touring these sites gives you a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Nizams who ruled the region for centuries.
Foodies will find Hyderabad to be a paradise. The city’s world-famous biryani is a must-try, a delicious medley of spices, rice, and marinated meat. Pair this with Haleem, a traditional dish of meat, lentils, and wheat, especially popular during Ramadan. The bustling Laad Bazaar, known for its bangles and pearls, is another attraction that adds to the charm of Hyderabad.
Despite its historical richness, Hyderabad is also home to a booming IT sector, making it a city of contrast—where old-world heritage and modernity coexist in harmony.
Toronto to Bangalore: The Silicon Valley of India
A flight from Toronto to Bangalore will transport you into India’s high-tech hub. Known as the "Silicon Valley of India," Bangalore is a vibrant metropolis that is shaping the future of India’s technology industry. The city’s cosmopolitan vibe and thriving startup culture make it a magnet for entrepreneurs and tech professionals from across the world.
But Bangalore is more than just its tech scene. The city is dotted with lush parks, colonial-era architecture, and an evolving café culture. A visit to Cubbon Park or Lalbagh Botanical Gardens provides a refreshing break from the fast-paced city life. Bangalore’s pleasant weather, often described as a “perpetual spring,” adds to its appeal, making it a favorite destination for those looking to escape the sweltering heat of India’s northern cities.
For a taste of Bangalore’s cultural side, the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath offers a deep dive into the art and craft of the region. The city is also home to a burgeoning music and theater scene, offering a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary performances.
The city’s vibrant nightlife, upscale shopping districts, and a diverse array of international cuisine reflect its modern and globalized identity, contrasting with the spiritual tranquility of Amritsar and the historic charm of Hyderabad.
Three Cities, One Incredible Journey
Traveling from Toronto to Amritsar, Hyderabad, and Bangalore provides an extraordinary glimpse into India’s multi-faceted personality. Each city is distinct in its culture and charm—Amritsar’s spiritual depth, Hyderabad’s royal heritage, and Bangalore’s forward-thinking innovation. This journey offers a chance to experience India’s past, present, and future, all within the same trip. 2019-21 was the rampage of wholesome Mallu Orthodoxy in my life. When boys were policed for growing long hair and wearing 'inappropriate ornaments and makeup' like Kajal, Kada (steel/iron bangle worn generally by the Sikh people, but many other community members too wear them nowadays) and for having odd hairstyles, girls were policed for their expression of sexuality. They were literally persecuted if the principal found love letters from their bags during 'surprise checkings'. There was no privacy in schools. It was an extreme theory. Boys with cannabis or decent boys, and sl*tty girls or studious girls. There was no in between. Leave them alone, there was no mention of queer students. Once, when our exams were over and our history teacher Mr Bisoye was addressing something to the students, I asked him to include gender neutral words. He asked me the necessity of it and I replied it's generally accepted to use gender neutral words. He then laughingly said that there was no queer student in the class then so there was no need for that. Presumption is key for them and they're never ready to go beyond these strong yet artificial binaries. It's easy for them because it suits their prejudicial morality. Growth is a constant process but they aren't even ready to grow.

ID from alt text: Image 1- Digital fanart of Hatsune Miku. She is portrayed as an Indian girl. Instead of long light blue pigtails she has two long black braids wrapped paranda. She also has a tikka headpiece, earrings and a nose ring. Miku has blue eyeliner make up and she is smiling, looking at the camera. Her body is turned to the side with the face towards the camera. Her left hand is saluting in a cute way, with the hand turned sideways and near the chin. Miku is wearing mehndi on both hands, and part of the arm. She is wearing bangle bracelets on her right hand, and a Kara on her left hand. Miku is wearing a light blue Lehenga choli, with many golden patterns on it and on the chunni. From the top, Indian Marigold are hanging and behind her there is a square with leaves and an orange sky. "Hatsune Miku" is written in text on either side. There are two chibis around her, a singing Miku with her hands on her chest on the top left, and a silly Miku with her tongue out on the bottom right.
Image 2- A collage of sorts. There is a cropped pic of the paranda from the original drawing, with an explanation next to it: "That thing wrapped around Miku's braids is called paranda. It's a hair ornament made of multicoloured silk. it's part of Punjabi clothing and a folk accessory in our culture. It's often worn during folk dances and sometimes weddings. I think it'd be cool for Miku to wear during her performances." On the bottom is a cropped image of the tikka, a small metal pendant hanging on Miku's forehead. Text to the left reads: "This is a tikka. It's a traditional piece of Indian jewelry worn as a headpiece. It's worn at weddings. You'll see it on the bride but also on girls."
Image 3- Close up of the marigold garlands hanging from the top of the picture, with text reading "The flowers hanging are marigolds. They're used in Indian weddings to represent the sun. They bring happiness and positivity to the new couple." Beneath is a close up of Miku's left hand and wrist, covered in intricate henna patterns, with a solid metal bracelet underneath.
