Signature bag

The first thing in the process was to cut the fabric according to the measurements I needed, After the mockup I decided I’d like it to be slightly bigger.

After that, I placed the fabric in a table and put tape over it taking measurements so that all the stripes would have the same length according to its color. Then, I painted the spaces with no tape and let it dry.

After it was all dried, I sew the fabric pieces. I began with a sewing machine but I got to a point where I had to sew by hand. This part of the process was a little difficult but I made it!

The last part was sewing the handles and the closing button.

I think adding the stripes and the little golden heart detail is what really brings to life this signature bag.

SIMPLICITY clutch | mockup

Here’s the paper model of my signature bag. At first I planned to do something fancy, so I folded my paper model into various irregular shapes and added miscellaneous colors. However, I realized that since this design was to be used everyday, it had to be practical and useful as wellI. Thus, I started over to make it look simple, easy to carry, but possessed interesting details at the same time. From dinner with friends to formal parties, this is suitable for any occasion. I believe this clutch can represent my personal style -- simplicity.

Parsons x Teen Vogue : Fashion Industry Essentials  Course 3 Assignment 6 | Your Product |

For this last assignment I decided to use materials found locally in Lima, Peru. For the body of the bag I used a fabric in striped and colorful patterns. It is made out of 100% PYMA cotton, one of the best quality fabrics one can find. 

For the production of the bag I sewed the lining (muslin) with the striped fabric, and sewed the hand knitted crochet shoulder strap and decoration of the top part. 

Finally, I calculated my materials and came up with a good retail price. Since it has a hand knitted crochet the production cost was a less elevated than other production costs because knitting takes a little more time to make. On the other hand, I really like the combination of these two materials and the final result. 

It is a versatile and unique accessory piece that can be used in many occasions and will be a great complement for minimal or monochromatic looks giving a pop of color and unique style.

Hi! Remember the signature bag mockup? I have done the real thing with one of the fabric proposals, I used the pink fabric called “Tergal stretch”. As part of the assignment I had to add stripes to the fabric, so I used organza ribbon. The style of the signaturebag had to be related to one of the visual styles I had identified in the other assigments. I choose the style Modern Ballerina so the fabric is pale pink with black ribbon forming the stripes. I also had to make the neccessary calculations to put a retail price on it. The picture of the final product and the calculations are shown below. I hope you like my signature bag.

This bag is centered around the use and combination of strong and good quality fabrics, based on the fabrics I chose in a previous assignment. For the mockup I used white cardboard for the outer frame of the bag and taped the pieces together to give it the form desired. For the short handles I managed to use a material similar to Sisa in a dyed pink color which works emulating the leather handles from the real product.  Also, I cut one of my brand, Isla de Mar hand tags, and pasted it in the middle as the brand metal tag. The finished mockup looks good and has the right size. I made two Production Costs with the fabric variations and came up with a very attractive retail price.
