It had been a fairly ordinary day in the Denivar household when Midge got a call from her brother.

“Sigi?” Midge answered, raising a brow at the screen. “What’s up?”

Sigi huffed through his nose. His expression looked serious.

“Midge. We have a situation,” he said. His tone was extremely macabre and Midge felt her stomach tighten in worry.

“What sort of situation?”

“Some of Harmonia’s loyalists have been plotting in secret. I’m not sure for how long. I only know of their existence because there was an attack on the Capitol yesterday.”

“An...an attack?! Sigi why am I just finding out about this?!”

“I wanted to make sure it was worth your attention. I’m sorry.” He gave a heavy sigh. “Midge. I know it’s short notice but...I need you to come to Lazuroth immediately.”

“Immediately?! Sigi I can’t just leave right now! I-I have to make preparations! I have a clinic to run! I can’t just-,”

“Midge!” Sigi’s voice had risen and become more stern. His expression was pleading. “We could very well be on the verge of civil war. Lazuroth needs its queen.”

Midge nibbled her bottom lip, feeling torn to pieces over this. A few of her friends had just survived a terrible situation. Drun was still so young. Chance could be left unsupervised but she never liked leaving the clinic unless absolutely necessary. And seemed this was...absolutely necessary.

“...Fine,” Midge finally said reluctantly. “I’ll...I’ll pack up as quickly as I can and leave tonight. I shouldn’t take longer than a few days to get there.”

Sigi nodded, a small smile on his face. “Thank you. I’m confident with you here and helping get a handle on this, we will certainly be able to prevent the violence from escalating.”

“I hope so. I’ll call you when I’m leaving. See you, Sigi.”

Sigi nodded and saluted before ending the call, leaving Midge reeling. She knew she needed to be there. She needed to get to the bottom of whatever was happening, and stop these attacks before they got worse. She could have sworn they’d left all this in the past. Apparently she’d been wrong.

“Midge?”

Midge looked up to see her husband walking into the kitchen. She couldn’t help but feel her insides twist uncomfortably. What horrible timing.

“Dek,” she said, shuffling her feet. “You know how we were going to go out on Valentine’s Day?”

Dek immediately frowned with worry. He could tell by Midge’s tone that this was not good. “...What happened.”

“There was an attack on the Capitol on Lazuroth,” she explained. “Sigi says it some people that are still loyal to my mother. Apparently they’ve been plotting for a while.” She looked up at her mate apologetically. “I’m so sorry.”

Dek slumped. He’d been looking forward to them going out together. They hadn’t had a real date night in a long time. He also knew without even asking that he couldn’t go with her. He was going to have to stay. One of them had to. The last time they were both gone...well…

“Don’t apologize,” he said pulling her toward him. “You’re the queen of Lazuroth. You have a duty to your people. If you didn’t go you wouldn’t be my mate.” He smiled reassuringly before leaning down and kissing her forehead. “It’s fine. We’ll have a date night when you get back.”

Midge closed her eyes, savoring the affection before nodding. She stayed in his arms a little longer before pulling away. “I have to leave now, Dek.”

Dek’s eyes widened. “That soon?” He was surprised that Sigi would summon her so last minute, not even giving her a few days to make preparations for her absence. The situation must have been very dire.

Midge nodded. She leaned up and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. “I’m sorry.”

“I told you, it’s fine. Go get ready to go, Stardust.”

Midge hesitated only a moment longer before she went to quickly pack her things, Dek following her and even helping a little. She left instructions on a tablet for Chance and for anyone else she could think of. She then made her way outside to the shipyard, Dek at her side. She hated having to leave him so suddenly.

“~I want you forever,~” she told him in Irken, standing on her toes to kiss his lips soundly.

Dek kissed her back, long and passionate. He never liked letting her go anywhere without him, but this had to be done. He only hoped she wouldn’t take too long. “~I am forever yours,~” he replied before kissing her again.

They heard the ship start up and Midge began to pull out of the embrace. “I have to go, my love.”

“I know. Be safe. Call me once you get there.”

“Of course, Captain.”

It typically took two to three days to get to Lazuroth with warp drive. Midge didn’t mind, as it was time she used to think about what she was going to say. She hardly slept, pacing the corridors of the ship she was on, spending a lot of time on the observation deck.

Tonight, however, she saw something rather strange. She squinted, trying to make out the strange shape in the distance. Then her eyes widened and she dove for her communicator.

“Bridge this is Queen Madrigal. Are you aware there is a ship coming-,”

The first shot that hit them threw Midge off her feet, and she hit the floor with a hard thud. The alarms began to sound as a couple of her guards came to help her up. “Your Majesty are you alright?”

“I’m fine, I’m fine.” At the most she was bruised. Nothing to worry about. “What the hell is going on?”

“It looks like a Lazurothian ship, Your Majesty,” one of the guards answered. “We’re still trying to identify.”

There was another shot, and it felt like this one had struck harder. Midge was thrown into a wall this time, her head slamming against the metal before she slid to the floor. The room began to spin, and she could hear people calling to her. There was another jolt. Or was there? She couldn’t be sure as the world seemed to fade in and out. Was...was that screaming?

A shadow loomed over her before she blacked out.
