Ok so uh, gonna post some of the fanfiction I’ve written on here. Never used tumblr before but my fiance convinced me to post my writing on here. First one I’ve got is some Sidlink fanfiction. Feel free to give me tips and suggestions!

Chapter 1: On the Road, Again.

With Calamity Ganon defeated, I set out with Zelda, now the new Queen of Hyrule. Zelda had always dreamed of uniting the tribes and peoples of Hyrule. I suppose my job now was simply to escort her to different locations. Since she didn’t have a Sheikah Slate, all our traveling was done on foot or with horses. Presently, she and I were riding together towards the Zora’s Domain, planning on meeting with King Dorphan. I was focused on the road until Zelda spoke up,

“Link, what is that?” I looked up, unsure of what she was referring to, until I noticed a looming figure in the distance.

“Stop.” I said, bringing my horse to a halt and gesturing for Zelda to stay quiet as I helped her down. “That’s a Lynel,” I said, hoping it hadn’t seen us, “they’re very territorial animals, and incredibly aggressive.”

“Can you beat one?” Zelda asked, a tinge of fear in her voice.

“Yes,” I replied, “however I’m not a big fan of fighting them.”

In the distance I could see the Lynel perk up and sniff the air. My stomach dropped as I saw it turn towards us, and begin to gallop.

“You and me, trees, now. Leave the horses.” I said, dragging Zelda behind a rock just in the tree line.

Zelda didn’t argue, she simply gasped and followed my lead as we both ducked down behind the rock. I could hear the Lynel getting closer, they weren’t exactly quiet creatures. I heard the horses turn and run, I cursed silently, knowing that it would be a fine at the stables to have them returned. The Lynel slid to a stop, I peeked around the rock to get a better look at the beast that just cost me 100 rupees. I almost had a heart attack right there. I had fought Lynels, taken out entire waves of enemies, even stopped the great Calamity Ganon. None of that compared to the massive white Lynel in front of me. I held Zelda down and put a finger to my lips to keep her quiet. After what felt like an eternity, the Lynel stomped off, nearly shaking the earth with each step.

“Is it safe?” Zelda asked, fear still lingering in her voice.

“Yes, it’s gone now.” I replied. I didn’t know that. The size of that thing was unlike anything I had ever seen. I almost didn’t believe it myself.

After talking, we decided to take a different route to the Zora’s domain. I wasn’t a fan of this route, it took too long and was annoyingly steep, but it kept that Lynel far away, so I kept my mouth shut and walked. Losing the horses was a pain in the ass. Two days of walking later, we finally made it to the Domain. Upon our arrival, we found a concerning sight. The guards for the Domain were all on high alert, and security had been almost doubled.

“Stop!” Called out one of the guards. I knew that voice.

“Baz! It’s Link!” I called out, hoping that he would recognize me in the evening light.

“Link! Welcome back to the Domain my friend! I see you have the princess with you. I’ll send word to King Dorphan and Prince Sidon that you’ve arrived.” Baz replied, examining us both for any injury.

As we walked towards the main part of the Domain, several guards bowed to Zelda, as much as she tried to stop them. She wasn’t a fan of the publicity, or the extra attention it got her.

As we checked into the inn for the night, I heard the familiar sound of Prince Sidon’s voice outside the inn.

“He’s here? As in, he made it through to the Domain? I wouldn’t expect anything less from the great hero!” As if on queue, Sidon burst into the inn, eyes settling on me. “Link!” He exclaimed, running over to me and nearly tackling me to the ground in a hug.

“Hey Sidon,” I coughed a little, “missed you too buddy, but you’re kinda crushing me.” I gasped out.

He released me, looking almost upset that he had nearly hurt me.

“Prince Sidon of the Zora,” Zelda began, trying her best to keep formalities while nearly falling over laughing at the sight of the large fish man hugging me. “It is an honor to meet you again, the last we met, you were much smaller.”

Sidon looked over, apparently just now realizing the princess was there. “Princess, I mean Queen Zelda, my apologies. It is a pleasure to have you here in the Domain. Please rest the night and my father will see you in the morning,” he said, before excusing himself, probably out of embarrassment.

I went to bed, tired after walking so far the past two days. Sleeping wasn’t hard for me, which was unusual. Normally sleep wasn’t important to me, having gone days without it before. I drifted off, still thinking about that massive Lynel.

Chapter 2: It’s All In Your Head

(From Link’s Perspective)

I was running. I didn’t know why, or from what, but I was running. I couldn’t hear it, or see it when I glanced over my shoulder. Really, I couldn’t see much of anything. Suddenly I tripped on something. Falling to the ground, I finally saw my pursuant. That same white fur and massive body loomed over me. I reached for any weapon I could find, but my hands found nothing. I cursed myself for leaving my sword somewhere. The Lynel raised its sword, but I knew I couldn’t dodge in time. The sword came down, and in a moment I was sitting upright, cold sweat running down my back as I struggled to breathe. What was that dream? More accurately it was a nightmare, but still, I didn’t have those. I hadn’t had a dream in years. I stood up, walking out of the inn and out into the main courtyard, trying to calm myself down.

“Link?” I heard a voice ask from behind me. I turned around to find Sidon standing next to the statue of Mipha, looking concerned. “What are you doing awake at this hour?”

I sighed, meeting his worried gaze. “It’s nothing, just a nightmare.” I replied, trying my best to not show the fear I really felt.

He walked over, his stride smooth and slow. “Would you like to talk about it?” He asked, clearly unsure as to what to do.

“On our way to the Domain we encountered a Lynel.” I explained. “Normally that wouldn’t be so bad, but this Lynel was massive. I’d say double or triple a standard Lynel.”

Sidon’s eyes widened, realizing what I was referring to. “You saw it as well then?” He asked, clearly more concerned now than he had been. “That Lynel took out at least a dozen of our guards out on patrol. The scene it left behind was horrific.”

We talked for a while longer, Sidon seemed to be getting cold, so I suggested we go inside somewhere that he could stay warmer.

“We could go back to my living space if you’d like.” Sidon suggested gently, trying not to make it sound awkward.

I agreed, and we made the short walk back to his area of the Domain. I sat as he brought me a drink, and we caught up on the events since I had defeated Ganon. Before I knew it, light was peeking through the windows, and it was time to see King Dorphan. Leaving his chambers, I returned to the inn to grab my gear and Zelda.

I was never a fan of diplomatic meetings. They were long, boring conversations that never got anywhere. Zelda and King Dorphan had been interacting for what seemed like days when finally the meeting was complete. Zelda decided to go shopping for a bit, and visited with the people of the Domain. Typically I would escort her, but she was safe here. I spent my time with Sidon, exchanging stories and offering advice as I could. It was late in the afternoon when Baz came sprinting into the courtyard, yelling for Sidon.

Chapter 3: Deja Vu All Over Again

(Link’s Perspective)

Sidon and I hurried over to Baz, who was very clearly bleeding from a nasty cut on his shoulder.

“Baz, what happened, is everything alright?” Sidon asked, trying to keep Baz on his feet.

Baz coughed, trying to stay conscious. “They took the princess.” That’s all he managed to get out before collapsing into Sidon’s arms.

Immediately I was on high alert. Upon inspection of Baz’s wounds, I realized something that terrified me. I knew what blades made these cuts. The curved blade used by the Yiga Clan were unlike anything else I had seen before. Given the wounds on Baz, it wasn’t likely he would be awake for several days.

“I have to go.” I said, as I began running to the bridge connecting the Domain to the rest of Hyrule.

Sidon called after me, eventually coming up on my side, keeping pace easily with legs almost double the size of mine. “Link, let me help you save her.” He said, concern and worry in his voice.

I know he was trying to be kind, that was his nature. Sidon was always so caring. But I couldn’t let him get hurt trying to follow me. Without a word I just kept running, waving him off as I continued down the path.

Chapter 4: Maybe, Just Maybe.

(Sidon’s Perspective)

There he went again. Running off to save the princess. Link was always off on some mission. I would never tell him how I truly felt. That I worried about him day and night, hoping he would return to the Domain. My father knew I had a personal connection to the hero, but he did not realize how deep that ran for me. Link was amazing, his golden blonde hair and small frame was perfect to me.

I returned to the infirmary, where Baz was being treated for his wounds. He stabilized when dipped in water, but still took very shallow breaths. I stayed by his side for a week. Barely eating or drinking, and stricken with worry for both Baz and Link. I only left to speak to my father, who requested my presence to check on my wellbeing.

After a week, I finally heard a commotion from the bridge, not thinking any of it until I heard someone yell

“Isn’t that Link and princess Zelda?” I bolted up, sprinting as fast as I could into the courtyard. Across the bridge I could see Link, princess Zelda in his arms, limping towards the Domain. I ran to him, as I arrived he simply collapsed in a sudden burst of tears and rage. I heard him shout obscenities, but I was more focused on the condition of the princess and Link. Zelda looked as if she had been beaten and tortured horribly, her breath almost nonexistent, and her heartbeat was difficult for even my senses to detect.

“I tried to save her faster, I did everything I could.” Link sobbed, trying to stand again, desperately trying to get her to the Domain.

I took Zelda from him, carrying her to a nearby guard and ordering him to take her to the infirmary immediately. I turned back to Link to find him unconscious, blood soaking through his shirt. I panicked and ran him to the royal doctors as fast as I could, begging Hylia to save them both.

Chapter 5: The Cart to Gerudo

(Zelda’s Perspective)

I stood near the window, looking out over the Domain, remembering how I used to accompany my father when he would come here on diplomatic missions. I heard the sound of something shuffling behind me before everything went dark. When I woke up, I was tied to a cart being dragged by people in deep red uniforms. The Yiga clan, a group that Link had caught me up on after my return. Apparently they had formed some time after the Calamity and were intent on finding the Hero and destroying him. I could hear them whispering in hushed voices, unsure of what to do to escape with my bonds keeping me quiet and in place.

Suddenly, the cart came to a halt, as if they had sensed I was awake. As I heard them walk around to the cart I pretended to be unconscious still, hoping they wouldn’t notice any changes. As the curtain to the cart opened, I felt the heat of the Gerudo desert hit me like I was back in the kitchens of the castle learning to bake. I felt the ropes around me loosen as one of the clan members picked me up and tossed me into a cell, forcing the wind out of me as I hit the ground.

I felt one of them approach me, and nearly gasped as something poked me in the neck. The last thing I heard before passing out again was “I hope you like it here Queen. You’re going to be here a very long time.”

Chapter 6: Failures

(Link’s Perspective)

Damn it! I let my guard down once. I knew better. I got too busy catching up with Sidon to realize I still had a job to do. This is what it gets me. The Yiga had Zelda. I failed as a knight…

I ran. I ran all the way to the Gerudo desert. I didn’t sleep for days. All I could think about is Zelda. My duty. My charge. Her father once trusted me to protect her with my life. I had betrayed that trust. I knew where the Yiga hideout was. I had fought them before. I knew they would have traps waiting for me at every turn but I didn’t care. I kept running.

I killed so many. I dipped into my ancient arrow supply. I cursed their souls to oblivion. A fate worse than death. I don’t know what made me do it, I had sworn to never use those arrows on a living thing, let alone a person. All I could think about was Zelda. We had won, we had our moment of peace. And they ruined it.

When I finally found Zelda, she had been beaten and battered, clearly unconscious for several days and severely malnourished. I picked her up, ignoring my own wounds to carry her. I picked her up and I ran, harder than I had to get here. I had to get her to the Domain. It’s the only place with doctors who could fix what the Yiga had done to her.

I’m sure my arm was broken, and I probably fractured more than that, but none of that mattered. I made it to the Domain, my body giving out as I reached the outer end of the bridge. I tried to lift myself, crying and yelling to Hylia, begging her to give me strength. I felt my body completely give out, the last blurry image in my mind was that of a large red fish barreling towards me.

Awww thank you!!! I really should tbh, considering I’ve gotten a ton of asks about it ehehe. I’m just so not used to drawing canon characters anymore. But they’re so fun I might revisit them later yeah!

Soooooo Revali and Link would be really cute together. Revali might be able to help Link overcome his anxieties and Link's support might help Revali with his insecurities. A very lovely couple bc they are interesting characters foils. Lovely ship.

You know it’s been a while since I’ve gone off the rails about how perfect Revalink is and in an effort to maintain some semblance of quality and sanity on this blog I’ll try not to to scream incoherently but yes you’re absolutely right they are perfect. Ok that’s it moving on. Nothing else to see here folks

OK so there’s this writing technique called “facade breaking” that is basically the principle that you have two characters who foil each other, but in ways that they both become better people because of each other. A character’s facade, or sometimes just called “the lie,” is the mindset or idea that they cling too that makes them who they are at the start of the story. It’s the image of themselves they want to keep that initially makes them hesitant or resistant to change. The breaking down of that lie/facade in order to reveal the “truth” or reality is what a character arc is. If you want a quick example of this, you can look at King Rhoam in Age of Calamity.

The facade of his character is that he doesn’t have time to be caring for his daughter because he needs to keep up appearances and focus on the Calamity. There isn’t time to coddle Zelda or let her be her own person, it’s just all about her powers. That facade starts to wear down over the course of the story, there’s cracks in it whenever Zelda and Terrako are together, and especially when he is alone, given solemn looks for the audience to see. However, the existence of a facade in the first place means that characters are resistant to the truth, and therefore resistant to change. The story has not yet put Rhoam through enough struggle to get him to change his viewpoint, which is why even until the day of Calamity, he is still insistent in his strict ways. The facade is only completely broken down during the moment of highest tragedy, which in a three act structure is usally the mid-point, in our case, the day of Calamity. When facades are broken and characters are faced with the truth--in our case, Rhoam sees that his abrasive and almost emotionally abusive actions towards his daughter were for nothing and he regrets not focusing more on loving and caring for his daughter because that was really all that mattered--that is the point in their arc where they actively change. Thus, for the rest of the story as Rhoam reunites with Zelda and lets her lead the reclamation of Hyrule, he supports her as his daughter more openly, and by the end of the game that aspect of his character is changed for the better.

Ok got all that? So the thing with Revalink is that they are both foils, AND facade breakers for each other. [A foil is just a character that is opposite another to highlight each other’s characteristics. They don’t necessarily bring out the best in each other or be an inciter in their character arc. A good example might be Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter if you watch Bojack Horseman. They’re characters that foil each other, but they don’t both break each other’s facades. A lot of the work for Mr. Peanutbutter’s case is done by his actions and the events around him.] Like we saw with King Rhoam, the things that break a character’s facade doesn’t necessarily need to be people, BUT for the purposes of romance, it is much more interesting if they are.

The reason why enemies to lovers and foil characters are so often shipped is because you can already “sense” that potential for facade breaking in those characters. You can see how, when pitted against each other, or otherwise, they can improve the other.

But the thing is for relationships like Revalink, a character being a facade breaker doesn’t stop at just, being the character that breaks their facade. That is a different trope, like one you might see in Twilight or some Mary Sue fanfic--the perfect girl or whatever meets the badboy and the girl “fixes” the badboy and they kiss. That is not inherently bad, but it is the construction of one character at the cost of another’s. And that’s what makes Revalink so great, because you can clearly see that [in fanon, I should mention] shipping them still maintains the contruct of their character, that their flaws can still exist, and that their character arcs don’t necessarily clash to make room for only one, but instead intertwine and weave like two waveforms.

I’m not saying that it’s impossible for ships like Sidlink to have a “mutual facade breaker” format, but I will argue that Revalink is the best example of it. Link’s flaws is Revali’s strength. Revali’s mindset opposes Link’s. Revali’s facade is opposite and in direct conflict with Link’s. One believes that they don’t need anyone but themselves, and failure is only a consequence of them not being/trying enough. The other sees isolation as a burden, but takes it up anyhow because destiny says that only one hero can save the world. One hides truth and insecurity with a veil of arrogance and witty remarks, the other does it in complete silence. If you put these two characters together it is physically impossible for them to not break each other’s facade. It is literally impossible for them to not change each other in some aspect.

Interesting romance isn’t just about seeing how characters like each other and get together. I mean yes, Coffeeshop AUs and the like are all well and fun don’t get me wrong. But some of the most interesting relationships that get you really invested are the ones where characters break facades, where you can actively see and compare a character’s past and present and see how they have changed for the better. The art of breaking facades gives so much potential for conflict and tenderness alike. And when the story’s arching towards it ends, and Revali and Link are together, you can look at the writing and the process that led them there and come to a very earned conclusion that yes, “they were made for each other.”

was i thinking about sidlink the whole time i was making out last night yes specifically that after link an sidon Fuck™ the first time links neck is sore but that specific sorta sore where its really distracting n u cant even turn your head w/o it hurtin n i dont reckon god Knows yet ? but at least to link its this great big constant remind of his sin n he hates it n he hates the bruises that are there too bc yeah he white as fuck will bruise if you breath on him too hard for the same reason n i dont know how long afterwards hes cast out idk how fast the turn around would be but in the case theyre still there after hes cast out (or maybe sidon put more ,, i kinda wanted them to fuck more than once) he fucking despises them hes ok ish w his vessel in every possible way except for those bruises and that ache because its inescapable he cant even try to forget he cant look at himself without seeing, cant move a muscle without feeling how filthy how sinful how wicked he now is

1. Why you no follow me???? Xc 2. Make Sidlink Fluff, it's a challenge from what you usually write. I challange you to write a fluff fanfic from what Sidon and Link were just starting to fall in love, make it as cute as you possibly can, and maybe even throw in Zelda jealousy XD That tis all....

Link stood before the grand doors of the throne room. His legsshook, his hands sweat but he had a determine look on his face. With a singlehand he pushed the door open and was now in the sight of the Zora King. King Dorephansat on his royal throne as he always has. Under the gaze of the great zora Linkfelt as small as he ever could. Pullingtogether his courage, Link went on with determination. He knelled before his highness.

“Master Link,” the king spoke with amusement in his voice, “whatis with the formality my old friend?”

Link stood he could his hands, ‘Came to ask for yourblessing.’

Dorephan’s amusement plummeted, “What did you say?” the kingleaned forward in his seat with a stern look in his eye.

Link stood his ground, “I came for your blessing for I wishto court Sidon.”

Dorephan emotion did not fade as he sat back into histhrone, “Answer me this Link, why?”

Link gave a confused look in response.

“Tell me why, why you love my son, why I should allowedanother of my children, now my only child, to be with you?”

Link wasn’t sure why he thought Dorephan would let it be sayand just yes or no, then again he could understand why he would ask this. Sidonwas now his only child, Sidon was still considerably young but still an adult.

Link took a shaky breath and respond, ‘I fell in love Sidon becausehe didn’t see as others do.”

“Oh?” Dorephan said.

‘People have come to me before confessing romantic feelingsor have made offers, because I was a chapion, a hero. People love a hero but noone loves Link, except Sidon. He may sign my praise, but it wa never because hefelt he should for I saved the people, he does so because he that’s what hethinks of me as a person and I feel the same. I knew fell for a prince I loveSidon, not the zora prince. And if there someone who truly does feel this thenI want to be with them my entire life.’

Dorephan sat in his throne absorbing the confession. Helooked into Link’s eye the fear of rejection was over taken by sheer love andcourage. Dorephan remembers the look well, for he too had the same look once inhis younger years. Dorephan face softened in front his friend.

“Link many people have asked for Sidon as well and I havealways have said no, because I wanted Sidon to experience true love. Beforemeeting you, Sidon would most likely say yeas to any proposal if it meant forthe greater good of the domain. But now, I look at you and my son, I can see howhe truly loves you and that all I could ever want for any of my child. If Miphawere here today and you had loved her I would say yes as well.”

Link stood in shock, ‘I can ask Sidon too,’

“Yes my dear friend.” Dorephan confirmed, “You have myblessing.”

Link’s face engulfed in a smile, giving the king thanks.

“Now,” Dorephan said to interrupt, “All that leaves is tooask Sidon.”

“There’s no need Father.” Sidon said as he said as heentered the throne room, “I saw and heard everything.” Sidon looked up to hisfather with tears in his eyes, “Thank you.”

Sidon rushed to Link, “Link!”

Link jumped into his arms so happy, holding him as tight ashe could.

“You beat me to it my dear.” Sidon said chuckling, “You are trulyamazing.”

Link took Sidon’s lips with his not caring that the king cansee them. Dorephan sat in his throne happy to see how happy his son has become becauseof the love he shares with Link.

Hello anon! Zora Link is just my design for him in this Sidlink AU i cooked up in one night for fun. Here are all the links (so far) that I’ve posted.

I kind of have a rough story so I’ll put that under the read more so I don’t clog anyone’s dashes with my rambles.

Ok so a lot of peeps will be curious how the heck did that little Hylian get a zora mask and my head canon is that since wolf Link exists in that universe then MM’s influence is there as well. (if grandpa link can babysit is future incarnation then OoT Link can help out too, just not directly like Twilight can)

While on his many travels with Princess Zelda as they sort out what needs fixing and reestablishing trade routes/ political ties to the royal family, one night by Lake Kolomo while they were resting on their way to Kakariko, Link was chilling by the lakeside fishing as Zelda was asleep and noticed that the moon was acting funny.

Kind of having a mini panic attack he started to think “uh oh blood moon” and thought ganon was returning… but nope! the sky wasn’t red, just turned an odd purplish hue and suddenly, as if coming from the moon itself a star fragment fell and landed on the little island in the lake. Link swam out to it and thought “yay more upgrades” or whatever but instead there were three glowing objects, the transformation masks from MM! (in this au he has all three but the deku one transforms him into a korok instead haha)

Link was like, aight cool masks! I wanna show Zelda! and puts on the goron one, but ouch! painful transformation. his yell wakes up poor Zelda and she sees a distraught goron stranded on an island in the lake. cue funny montage segment of zelda trying her very best to help goron link and failing. ( a lot of confused yelling)

when all that crap is well and done, link manages to pull of the mask, revert back, and he and zelda kind of freak out together? but scholarly Zelda really wants to study them. the masks don’t work for her or anyone else though. only the spirit of the hero. (boo :c ) korok link is way freaking adorable and link struggles to get the mask off with his little nubs!

but ye zora!link is awesome and that gets Link the most excited because yay now he can hang out with Sidon in the water instead of chilling at the domain!

but when he transforms, no one can recognize him in any of his forms (besides Zelda, the great fairies and maybe impa haha).

There is however a very important aspect to the masks that Link is a bit unaware of.

You see if he wears the masks for 3 days straight, the mask will become extremely difficult to take off. The more he wears it, the harder it becomes to remove it.

But anyway….when he meets Sidon he gets a little…overwhelmed? Signing with webbed hands is a bit awkward but he doesn’t really get a chance to explain because “hey a new type of zora! let’s all gather around him and bombard him with questions” but luckily Zelda is there to explain he is…an ambassador of sorts? for the zora people at hyrule castle. He’s different because he doesn’t need water as much. (which isn’t necessarily true, he’s more hardy for sure tho )

zora peeps are like “oh cool, even tho you never grew up here or are a native yay ambassador! Muzu’s the only zora with some gosh darn common sense questioning any of this! but sadly he isn’t taken seriously. (poor manta head lol)

cue links random visits to the domain and him and sidon getting a lot closer. link forgets to visit as a hylian himself a lot because he kind of assumes well zoras should be with zoras right? “even if Sidon doesn’t know its me, he probably doesn’t miss me.” (can one be jealous/hurt by of oneself? is that a thing? )

but the tension builds up and eventually the truth has to be revealed or else there will be a really bad backfire of pain and feelings to pay. (lots of slow burn and pining and augh communication issues. the bane of any good story tbh)

i kind of draw random snippets of this? i’m by no means an author, just doodle the comic once in a while.

hey Kip! I’m sending asks into different writer’s askboxes, inquiring about cool themes/development facts/stuff the author wants to share about their personal favorite work of their own. What’s yours? :)

Ok so this ask is old and when I first got it I was like “dang I don’t really have a lot to talk about, what should I talk about I could those revalink headcanons the Kip Cut that turned into a working fic uhh hmm maybe I’ll just make something new to talk about real quick” and then I did and now there is a 12+ chapter Revalink fic in my drafts and I’m gonna talk about that now, whoopsie doopsie [click "j" to skip]

aHEM, OK so allow me to break out the primary school white board because yeah, I have a lot of thoughts and the oxford comma has not yet made it’s home into my brain. oh and spoilers for paraphrase. for both all of Chapter one and future events in later chapters, but it’s really nothing you couldn’t surmise from the AO3 tags

so I really wanted to tell the story of Revali and Link learning and struggling to love again after the less-than-fortunate events of Botw, but I wanted a...how you say...fresher, approach on the subject? Like I know we always say that fanfic writers writing the same tropes and stories time and time again is good because we eat that shit up--but at the same time I had asian parenting as was told never to half ass anything ever, no matter what. So now I'm gay and extra and have depression maybe and oh would you look at that @motherhyrule has dropped a beautiful revalink prompt right into my lap

Great so now that we have, that, I shall take you on the step by step process on how to make a :sparkles: story. So step one is to spend at least five to eleven business days for your white board to dismantle your genre and themes and work them around your character arcs. Luckily I have prepared one ahead of time

s*breaks out those laser pointers that uni professors use* So let's start with defining genre. As define because I HATE you, fuck you. I want you to suffer and writhe on the ground, motherfucker. How dare you think that I would give you nothing but pure predictable fluff, fuck you and yours

is the set of expectations that your audience has when consuming a piece of media

And the great thing about fanfiction is that unlike movies or book where the genres are more vague like, "oh it's a noir mystery genre. so there's a crime, maybe a murder, and a detective and a criminal." or "oh it's a teen romance. so there's some white people and a morally questionable six-pack 18 year old love interest that will be painted as desirable for some reason" BUT with fanfiction HALF of the work out the window, because as soon as you see those #revalink #aro sidon #zelpha #revali is an idiot and #found family tags you already know what's up.

Now what's so great about genre and expectation? Well the fun thing about it is that

In Chapter 1: Holes, you already expect there to be revalink, you already expect them to be soulmates with the soulmarks and there's angst and yadayada ya. Revali and Link have to match because thatttss what this is all about, this is about them! This is about cute, little soulmarks and romantic words!

But whoooopsie doopsie [disney channel laugh track plays] they DON'T match anymore! Link's got a different mark! The number one rule of this entire genre has been broken whoooooooooooooooops. *ba dum tiss*

You might notice with a lot of my writing that I do this a lot, this whole..."oop but there's one little thing that's different." TebaSaki sick fic? Ok cool, but what if Teba burns an irreplaceable relic of the Rito champion to fight a wizzrobe first to characterize why his dumbass clicks with Saki. Mipha deciding to persue Link? Ok what if she chases after a dragon to externalize this conflict as she pierces it's flesh for a scale. Link fighting a Lynel? Ok but what if it's actually a sidlink angst fic in disguise and it's also world building on how Link deals with the bloodmoon that erases all of his efforts which is sort of similar to how his existence was erased from Hyrule 100 years ago mwaahahaha! Ok now that I say this outloud I think I just have a pattern of using fight scenes to externalize character growth. I like fight scenes...anyways.

I think another great thing about the realm of fanfiction is that with the tagging system, I can basically use a chekhov's gun sort of deal, without doing any writing. You know I'm gonna use that gun marked "soulmates" but you don't know when I'm gonna shoot it, and you SURE as hell don't know how.

And huzzah! One of the main points of conflict both drives the tension between Revali and Link, solidifies the unique genre and setting of this world, while also creating a new mystery that will carry over for the next few chapters.

Is Revali right in that Link's rebirth makes him destined for someone new now? What will Link do with the information that his soulmark has changed? Why did it change? Did Revali's change as well? How does anything fucking work right now?

And sure, you might be able to tell where things will end with them, but you sure as fuck will not know how because I HATE you. Fuck you. I want you to suffer and writhe on the ground, motherfucker. How dare you think that I would give you nothing but pure predictable fluff. I am not your goddamn fairy godmother, I will do as I fucking please. You will suffer as you fucking deserve, fuck you and your little tiny--

Oh! But you might have noticed on my little planning whiteboard thing that there was a little T-Chart! For Revali and Link! That's because the next important thing besides plot (and in a lot of cases, including this one, it's argued to be even MORE important than plot) is

~CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT~

So yes, it's a little T-Chart outlining their character views in relation to the themes. And the great thing about themes is that they're not something you can necessarily predict in the same way you can with the genre and plot.

But now see, I'm very lazy so I'm just gonna plagiarize @hyrule-kingdom-updates thingy [that you should read btw] because they said my point quite clear enough

Now I don't really need to care about those points about bond and relationships and being understood, because I'm dealing with already established canon characters. I'm not some NERD who dabbles with entire casts of ocs who even cares about ocs not me that's for sure ahaahahaahahahahahaahahahahahAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH *cries in my orphaned WTTU fic* AHAHAHA*sobs*DONT FUCKING LOOK AT ME THAT WAY I SWEAR--

But the points I do wanna focus on is the idea that characters provide new perspectives on the theme, and that characters growth can be tracked based on their wants, lies, and needs.

So see, themes can be predicted the same as genre/plot because while you can have the same fanfic plots and tropes, theme will always vary!

Sometimes it's a journey of selfworth with Revali! Sometimes it's an exploration of trauma with Link. Sometimes it's about how you deal with the vulnerabilities of love with Mipha. Sometimes there's straight up NOOOO theme, and people just be fucking, and kissing, and baking, and having a good time. And that is totally fine too!

But I'm not a fucking coward.

I'm gonna weave in themes with my plot, because I fucking can.

I'm not a weakling like you.

Do you hear me, 2019 Kip? Do you hear me Demmers? Do you hear me Quill? I'm coming for your ass. You think you're so great, but I'm coming for you. Rest assured that your graves will be as deep as your sculptured pride--

yyyyyYou might notice that Revali and Link are quite parallel, to paraphrase. Ayoooo, see what I did there? *dabs* I'm a genius. Anywho

They both start off the same way: 100 years ago they were in love and happy. Basically the equivalent of childish naivety. For the first time in their lives, life is whimsical and charming, and they make each other happy. In fact, it's almost a flaw with how they perceive this happiness. But don't worry! It doesn't last long!

You know what happens.

I think the chart is pretty self explanatory. Revali builds walls fast enough to give a republican a wet dream. Meanwhile Link makes every aromantic in the chat groan with his doubled down sentiments in the idea that his chances of being truly happy again are gone.

Now, I can't exactly describe the full on process of the inbetweens, and where Revali and Link are gonna go from here, because...you have to read it for yourself! Heehee...but something I did think was fun was how these character views on the themes are revealed. Because you'll notice that, I never give exposition. Ever.

Ok well, let me rephrase that. I never give exposition scenes. I will never give you a big LOTR fancy wizard scene explaining the ins and outs of a character's question or the world's magic or whatever. I'm a very impatient Kip, and I value efficiency. Nonono, it's all about multi tasking, baby!

Chapter 1: Holes is divided into three parts.

Post 100 Years - Medoh (Establishes Ghost Rev/Bonk Head Link's view)

100 Years Ago - Flight Range (Establishes old Revalink views)

Post 100 years - Mark (Develops Ghost Rev/Bonk Head Link's view in contrast to who they once were)

I think the way that you structure flashbacks is incredible vital, as it's a very quick way to characterize people without having them say stuff like "I used to be like you, until I took an arrow to the knee" or whatever.

And with the main structure of the chapters and the fic as a whole is focus on their characters, that means I can hide whatever other stuff I want in those scenes, becuase you're too busy absorbing the fun character stuff to realizing I'm giving you boring exposition. Like for example:

Post 100 Years - Medoh and Mark

Foreshadowing for the end of the fic

Set up connection to Medoh with Revali

Link has defeated Windblight

Link has been visiting Revali every night for the past few days

Link has already met Kass and presumably Teba

Link doesn't have the Mastersword

Revali's Gale is still an ability that needs master and practice on Link's end

And that's just some of the stuff.

And see, the only reason I can efficiently give all of this information regarding character, and even exposition, is because of the theme. The themes make everything relevant, and everything circles and encompasses one another, so there's absolutely no wasted space. I mean don't even get me started on how it's gonna be to characterize the other characters around this

I don't wanna talk about the other characters too much either because that's spoilers, but you can probably take a gandar based on my notes.

And oh my god this is just on the theme of the faults that come with "soulmates" and "true love" and all that, and how even magical destined relationships still require work and effort, and that no one thing or person solves all your problems. And that's not even TOUCHING the shit on trauma and scars. I didn't think it was even possible for me to talk about botw without touching on that, ha. Ah well, I've been talking for too long.

Revalink has a lot o' writing potential so das pretty cool yeah, I am excite

Alrighty it’s Time 2 Rank Ships

Here’s my top ten list of Botw ships because I was inspired by recent events

10) Sooga x Kohga 6/10

some gay little ninjas just vibing with some potassium fruit. need I say more? you’ve SEEN hwaoc right? There is no way they’re not gay, it’s just an impossibility. Sooga basically carries Kohga like a bride. they’re getting married, and instead of flower petals it’ll be banana peels

9) Sidlink 6/10

Tall happy shark boi, tiny gremlin, one of the best dynamics. honestly I think I prefer them platonic, but it’s still a very good ship. Perfect for your fluff AND angst needs.

8) Tebasaki 10/10

fucking SUE me I love a loving husband and his wife just being normal and hanging out with their child ok call it basic or whatever but god fucking dammit I love them so much ok. Tebaharth is valid but nothing can replace the family sized hole in my heart except Tebasaki. I still hate that Nintendo named them after fried chicken, but at least they’re really cute together. Also TULIN

7) Miphlink 7/10

sof fish girl pining after handsome knight....friends to strangers to friends to lovers.......or even friends to best friends to lovers....or you could chuck the sweet romance build up completely in the angst bin and just kill one or both of them off. Mipha being a ghost but still healing Link and keeping him in the world of the living....god so much narrative potential, there’s much to do in the Miphlink world!

6) Urbosa x Queen 8/10

Let’s go lesbians let’s go. Urbosa literally says in her diary “I do not worship the goddess, I worship her” like BOI HELLO GAYSSS that is the gayest fucking thing I have ever seen. Also Zelda with two lesbian moms yes please, fuck king Rhoam.

5) Zelpha 7/10

MORE lesbians, because I said so. Well actually I see Zelda as pan, and Mipha bi, but long story short, girls. Mipha being supportive of her science gf, Zelda taking care of Mipha and helping her as they both grow as princesses....There’s a lot to foil with them, and thus a lot that they can learn from each other and grow as BATTLE WIVES because Mipha teaches Zelda how to kick ass change my mind

4) Zelink 8/10

shut the FUCK up, it’s not basic. it kinda is, but shut up still. I love them. Yes they also make a great platonic relationship, but the sheer romantic tension of falling inlove with your body guard, and also the overarching story of your love lasting centuries and being the thing that saves each other and the entire world. when the world told you to worhsip and pray to a goddess, and instead you love and learn from your once hated companion and now your best friend and also learn to love yourself through that and also you both continue to save each other both physically and metaphorically time and time again fucking SHUSH it’s a popular ship for a reason and also chaotic science girl and arsonist is good

3) Miphvali 8/10

there are nice...they are cute......they are like the tebasaki of 100 years ago change my mind. They’re just NICE, it’s again with the foils and facade breakage and the tough sarcastic one softening to the cinnamon role dynamic GHHU I love them so much....Mipha’s kindness even being able to reach out to someone like Revali and then Revali helping her move on from Link and then brrrrrrr brainrot, they are so cute

2) Astor x Rhoam 10/10

A fantastic ship. 9/10. They both fucked the queen. They both aided in the destruction of the Calamity (Rhoam kinda fucked everyone over by digging up the Guardians). They both are mean to Zelda. Astor’s a greasy twink, Rhoam is the bimbo. PErfect. they should ballroom dance

1) Revalink 10/10

I have given many an essay on the topic, and there’s probably a few more in my drafts. I love them....enemies to lovers is my absolute jam. They’re in love. You can’t change my mind. Soulmates. This is a pattern but ships where two really flawed or broken characters find each other and mend and become better is my blood and life. Revalink rights forever
