Charlie Faye & The Fanimals Bring Retro Sounds to Modern Themes for Families
Tumblr media
Lauded as hearkening back “to Motown, Spector, or the Brill Building” by Huffington Post, Charlie Faye's most recent musical endeavor, Charlie Faye & The Fayettes, was called a “modern-day ‘60s girl group” reminiscent of The Ronettes or The Supremes. Now, Faye’s new project for kids and families, Charlie Faye & The Fanimals, brings those same ‘60s-tinged soul/pop sounds to their self-titled debut album, Charlie Faye & The Fanimals, set for release July 21, 2023.   “The thing that’s cool about this project is that it has a throwback sound, but the themes of the songs are very modern,” says Charlie Faye. “You wouldn’t have a Motown song in the ’60s about a little boy who wears a tutu. But on this album, you do.”   Charlie Faye began her music career as a sideperson, singing and playing guitar and mandolin in Dan Zanes & Friends. Following that, Faye's career has been fueled by interesting ideas: In 2010, she did a solo tour around the country where she lived in a different city each month, put together a local band, and wrote and recorded a new song with local musicians in each place. Her best-known project to date, and most recent, was Charlie Faye & The Fayettes, which garnered high praise from media, earned Faye a publishing deal with Rough Trade, and got her songs placed in shows like Riverdale and Girlboss.   In 2019, Charlie Faye became a mother, and soon after, the world became a different place with the onset of the pandemic. Tokyo Police Club announce fall tour, release new song “New Blues,” cuz nothing gets people PUMPED like the blues
Heartwarming fact: Tokyo Police Club is still the same four dudes who first got swept up into a wave of blog buzz in mid-aughts. Think about that. Most of the bands who went through similar experiences to theirs back then have broken up, become revolving doors for sidepersons, or self-destructed down to solo project-dom. Another heartwarming fact: Tokyo Police Club have announced a slew of fall tour dates. AND they’ve got a brand-new song to precede a brand-new, yet-to-be-announced album, which they recorded in a church in Ontario with Rob Schnapf, who is basically, like, the Rick Rubin of cuddlesome-yet-energetic rawk (by which I mean he has a pretty big beard, per Wikipedia). Schnapf previously worked with the group on their second full-length, Champ, from 2010. The new album, when the band gets around to releasing it, will be TPC’s first since 2014’s Forcefield. In the meantime, the new single is called “New Blues,” and you can ear-gander at it below, while eye-gandering at the tour dates. Tokyo Police Club tour dates: 06.15.18 – Burlington, ON - Sound of Music Festival * 10.16.18 – Brooklyn, NY - Baby’s All Right ^ 10.18.18 – Winnipeg, MB - The Good Will Social Club ^ 10.19.18 – Saskatoon, SK - Capitol Music Club ^ 10.21.18 – Regina, SK - The Exchange ^ 10.23.18 – Red Deer, AB - Bo’s Bar ^ 10.24.18 – Edmonton, AB - Starlite Room ^ 10.25.18 – Calgary, AB - Commonwealth Bar & Stage ^ 10.29.18 – Vancouver, BC - Fox Cabaret ^ 11.01.18 – Seattle, WA - Barboza ^ 11.02.18 – Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge ^ 11.05.18 – San Francisco, CA - Bottom of the Hill ^ 11.07.18 – Los Angeles, CA - Moroccan Lounge ^ 11.10.18 – Santa Ana, CA - Constellation Room ^ 11.16.18 – San Diego, CA - Casbah ^ 11.17.18 – Phoenix, AZ - Crescent Ballroom ^ * Born Ruffians ^ Fleece http://j.mp/2rxJCLU
