And then sometimes when you ask them what general DNI criteria is they accuse you of being racist and tell you that it means the same thing for every person (it doesn't and you've seen conflicting definitions with their own eyes) and you're willfully misinterpreting them (they're the one who made it vauge in the first place).

And then also sometimes they aren't even polite enough to say general DNI criteria and instead give the equally vague but much more asshole statement of "DNI freaks"

And then also sometimes something they consider basic DNI is something like proshippers and it's like "wow okay....I think you're kind of making a sweeping assumption about how common your stance actually is, man....I think you're also misunderstanding how many people even know what that word is because this is a relatively recent shipping discourse, dude....."

And then sometimes they'll have something on their DNI and you ask and they give an incorrect definition and you're like. ":/. Bro what the fuck bro". Like that's not what a furry is. That's not what a proshipper is either. That's not what pansexual means what are you- what the fuck is going on did you get this list from someone ELSE????

ive been thinkin about DNIs and like. i dont think theyre an inherently bad concept, i have had situations where i open someones blog, see something in their bio like ''DNI if you think asexuals are LGBT'' and immidiately thought oh, okay, i dont want to follow you and you wouldn't want to follow me. theyre useful both ways.

...the problem is a lot of people just put ''DNI if youre transphobic, homophobic or racist'' and its like. guys. you know most racists dont self-identify as racist, right. like 'proshippers dni' and 'terfs dni' at least somewhat work because people actually identify with those labels but i don't think many people are gonna read that and think ''aw damn, that's me, i'm racist, i guess i'll leave.''

i guess im jut saying if you want a DNI that actually serves a purpose i think you need to use specific talking points (like the aformentioned asexual discourse) that people are gonna identify with. it'd work way better as a signaler of your opinions on small-scale intercommunity discourse than anything else. and also if i see another 'general dni criteria' im going to lose my mind.
