wanna see my genius (crack) theory that i developed for pokemon scarlet and violet??

so, cheugy is a supposedly american slang phrase. as we all remember it was a source for much confusion when director clavell asked what it meant. why? because it was coined in 2013. the phrase supposedly describes someone who is ‘out of date’ and ‘trying too hard’. (the hilarious implication of him asking this is that some kids probably called him this while disguised as clive but that’s besides the point). why would they use an obscure phrase from 2013 though? the word stumped the majority of the audience and without googling it, the joke lost it’s value. furthermore why would a phrase from 2013 be in common usage in the game - unless the game is set in 2013? that would a weird and funky thing huh. except you know what else happens in 2013??

That is the release of pokemon x and y our beloved game which presumably also takes place in 2013. the games which we know exist in the same universe as scarlet and violet and share very strong similarities in the mega evolution/terastalising concept, the game which is set in paldea’s neighbouring country kalos. we tend to assume the games are occurring at the time they are created but that isnt necessarily the case.

so has the game been taking place in 2013 all along?? are x/y and scarlet/violet taking place simultaneously??

in this theory i pose why the games are connected not bc of any ancient lore or pokemon distribution or any logical reason but bc they’re both set in 2013
