I spent the majority of the film with my arms crossed and rolled my eyes multiple times while cursing under my breath, so I know the feeling. The "comedy" in the middle of scenes that should have been emotionally intense nearly had me audibly screaming in the theater. The showing I was at, there wasn't a single laugh during the whole movie, which I found interesting and made me feel less alone in how I felt about the film. Normally, I shy away from seeing any film on opening weekend solely because the audience usually is vocal about things or claps or whatever it may be. The showing I was at, it was just silence in the theater. No cheers when a hero took down a bad guy, no excitement when a character appeared on screen for the first time (aside from one person saying "seriously they put in yoda?!?? at that part), not one person clapped when the film was over (why people do that is beyond me, but still).
To me, I think rian just wasn't the right choice for Star Wars. The only other film of his that I've seen is "brick" which is an okay film (I enjoyed it when it came out but it wasn't anything I was blown away by) it was clunky in its own right and completely and wildly different in style and tone that what Star Wars is. Rian is honestly very inexperienced and does not have a lot of films (let alone anything that could be considered anything above average of something a first year film student would produce) under his belt and to be handed the job of directing a Star Wars film was honestly a very dumb idea in the first place. I get that sw likes using unknown actors and directors and that works well (ot, rogue one), but I feel like rian did not understand the project he was undertaking and tried to make something that wasn't even his own style, let alone something that works for Star Wars. I've read that Mark Hamill spoke up about how different Luke's characterization was and the direction the film was headed in, but I'm left wondering if any of the other actors ever questioned it. Did they really read that script and say "oh yeah, I'm totally in for this one liner ridden dialogue" or "sure, let's do this random plot that makes sense". I don't completely blame the actors for tlj being what it was though, because they did what was given to them and I can't fault them for everything because things that are filmed get edited together differently and the actor doesn't know what the finished project looks like until after it's done anyways. I feel like they weren't given much to work with in the first place anyways. Kylo seems to be the only character that has really been thought out by any of the writers and adam Driver does a good job, imo, working with the reasoning and nuances of what and why kylo does things. I feel like Poe, Finn, rose and even Rey, are just kind of flying by the seat of their pants because there is no direction or reason for them to work with, let alone build a character from. Nothing has been hashed out in writing for an actor to question things like would my character do/say/act like that (and for what reason behind it).
I'm rambling, but I'm still so disappointed and frustrated with this film and all it's flaws.
@oscillatingfanx replied to your post: Very Real Shower Thoughts: I’m pretty sure at…
I feel like even if the dialogue got a major overhaul, half the story was left out (i.e.: Finn/rose subplot- to me that whole storyline was like in a video game where a second character isn’t needed but has to tag along as you play to get them to a point where you do need them) and it was edited differently, it would have been okay
The jumpiness of TLJ took away any sort of emotion of the film for me. I felt like things cut from one story to the other in the middle of moments when really the scene should have played out fully before moving on. Also, scenes were too long, so it was almost like the viewer forgot about what was going on before, until it randomly jumped back and was like oh hey remember there’s a battle going on. That really took away any enjoyment of the film for me. Also, the fact that nothing seemed super serious. Moments that should have been touching/worrying/any sort of emotion were met with cheesy attempts at comedy that weren’t funny. I felt like I was watching a parody video rather than an actual sw movie.

I will be going on a (temporary) internet timeout starting sometime December 11th (Central Standard Time), possibly sooner. Couple notes on that:
• I will be seeing The Last Jedi.
I know there are plenty of people in this fandom who won't, or do not want to and I respect that. As problematic as TFA was, there are things/characters from the new trilogy I do like and am curious of what happens next.
• That being said, I'm trying to go into TLJ with an open mind. Aside from watching the trailer that premiered during Monday Night Football, I have steered clear of as much press coverage, interviews and additional tv spots as possible. I enjoy going into a film knowing as little as possible and forming my own opinions upon viewing.
• I will tag any posts as #tlj and #thelastjedi for blacklisting purposes. I will not post/reblog anything containing major plot points or spoilers upon my return.
May the Force be with you.

If Poe has that sultry bedroom eyes look like he's had in everyone one of the trailers so far for the entirety of "The Last Jedi", I'm pretty sure I will explode in the theater.

So I was just at Lowe's
(Which is a giant home improvement store if you aren’t familiar) buying roughly 50 pounds of landscape rock for a backyard project. I was out in the parking lot, heaving these heavy ass bags of rock into my car, which has a rebel alliance logo sticker in the window. Parked next to me was a truck with an Imperial cog sticker in its window when the owner of said car walks past. He noticed me, a tiny ass lady, lifting bags of rock into my trunk. He pushed his own cart aside and asked me if I needed some help.
Normally, I'd dismiss the offer and just do it on my own but Imperial sticker guy was built like a brick shit house and I was already exhausted after lifting two bags. I agreed, seeing I still had four bags to go. Empire loving meat hooks dude took less than 2 minutes to load the rest up. I thanked him as I closed my trunk and as he returned to his cart, he said “may the force be with you”.
so thanks, random Star Wars fan. Maybe the light and dark side could get along if they just visited a home improvement store together

So, I’ve often thought about what job I’d want if I lived in the SW galaxy. I’d (obviously) want to be part of the Rebellion and as much as I’d love to be an X Wing pilot or a spy or something cool, I’m about as graceful as a cat with tape stuck to it’s paws, so those jobs are clearly out. I’d make a horrible ground solider and while I’m fine with blood and guts, needles freak me out, so medical anything is out.
Of all jobs, I’d totally want this guy’s (who with a little research I learned actually has a name- Corporal Osleo Prennert ). He’s a sentry and scans incoming ships to read things like the ship’s transponder code, weapon status and access codes before relaying all that information back to base.
Plus you get a sweet little perch and heights don’t bother me... (my space-Instagram would get the best sunset pictures from up there).

Thoughts on Poe Dameron
The fact that Poe still confidently replies “I can fly anything” after being mercilessly tortured and had his mind ripped apart by Kylo Ren for the location of his droid says a lot about his character.
Poe “never gonna get me down” Dameron still remains positive about things, even when a rogue storm trooper asks him if he can fly a TIE fighter in order for them to escape the First Order. There is a very slim chance that Poe has any idea of what flying a TIE fighter entails but he’s all about that fake-it-til-you-make-it attitude, even in probably the most dire situation he has ever found himself in. Who knows what would have become of him if Finn didn’t seize the opportunity to escape the Order at that very moment, using the captured Resistance pilot as his ticket out of there? Poe most likely would have died if it wasn’t for one storm troopers decision that that day and that exact time was the moment he needed to get the hell out of there. The information the Order wanted from Poe was already in their hands and the rest of him was useless. Maybe they would have tortured him further, just solely based on the fact that they had the Resistance’s best pilot in their hands, maybe they would have killed him within the hour since any good he would have done had already been extracted from him. Or even worse, they could have sent him back to the Resistance alive, but maimed to the point of uselessness to them solely to show the Resistance the supposed power of the First Order.
The fact Poe says “okay, lets do this” and gets into a ship (with another person’s life in his hands) says a lot about him. He doesn’t think twice, he only questions Finn once about why he’s doing this for him. “Because it’s the right thing to do” and Poe believes him and puts faith a complete and total stranger in that moment. Why would Poe believe anything someone from the First Order said after the pain he had just experienced at the hands of one of their leaders? He still sees the good and the light in people, even after seeing the hatred and evil that another human from the same side can posses.
Poe neglects the fact (or just doesn’t know) that the TIE is tethered to the docking bay and still is like okay, I can still figure this out, don’t worry. I have no doubts that Poe is an excellent pilot (any prior knowledge of current First Order flight technology aside). He clearly demonstrates that in the fact that he picks up the controls of a foreign ship quickly, instructs Finn on how to man the gunner station and also outmaneuvers incoming fire as they begin their escape, something a skilled pilot would be able to do behind the controls of any ship, even if he is unfamiliar with the ship at his hands.
Despite the worst of situations and the greatest of odds, Poe somehow remains pure and good at heart. He could have easily swayed Finn to get him as far as the hangar and then left him behind, saving only himself. Poe could have been a jerk, doing all the work once in the TIE fighter on his own, telling Finn to shut up and enjoy the rescue rather than giving him an actual name and telling him how to help them out.
Poe’s inherent good never wavers. Even when pushed to his knees in front of Kylo Ren, the supposed terror and dark lord of the galaxy, he never cowers in fear. He still manages to basically make joke (so who talks first etc...) rather than shudder and cry at the very sight of the man.
I have my own theory that I won’t get into here (maybe another post) that Poe actually has an extreme case of PTSD after escaping the First Order because of his past experiences (mother’s death as a child, growing up as the galaxy begins to fall to pieces again in addition to being surrounded by people on a military base that most likely had seen what war can do to a person in part because of the first Galactic war). Along with his own torture from the First Order and everything that follows it, he mostly likely would use his normally cheerful persona to mask some really deep seeded trauma that he still battles with internally on a daily basis.
That being said aside, the fact that Poe is able to pick himself up from the worst of situations that a person can experience and keep on keepin’ on is actually quite amazing. He doesn’t return to the Resistance base and hide away feeling sorry for himself. Poe goes right back into battle to defend Takodana from the First Order, fighting back against the people who inflicted so much pain on him (payback, repression of memories...whatever the reason, he still jumps right back into his x wing and heads back into battle). His dedication to the Resistance is unfaltering, despite the personal pain he has experienced. If anything, it might be a huge driving factor of why he felt it was so neccasary to head straight back onto the front lines.
Later on, instead of saying “well I’ve done enough, I’ve had my revenge on them” Poe is right there in the war room when Leia needs him at her side and the Resistance is planning an attack on Starkiller Base. Poe never wavers as the rest of the room is in awe and in doubt about heading into battle against something that is bigger and badder than they’ve ever faced before. This massive death machine was bearing down to fire on their system next and Poe didn’t bat an eyelash and was already suited up to go blow this thing up, even when everyone else was practically crapping their jumpsuits at the statistical odds presented to them. Even in battle, as a Commander, Poe maintains a clear mind and a easiness about him, instructing his pilots to give it all they’ve got. His faith never wavers that the Resistance will overcome the obstacle they are faced with. “As long as there’s light, we’ve got a chance”.
Only after the destruction of Starkiller might Poe actually have the time to fully process everything that had happened to him through the course of events that had taken place. Only then might he shed tears or feel numb as he sits alone in his bunk late at night. But, he knows that others, not only in the Resistance, but in all of the galaxy, rely on his actions. He will still pull himself out of bed and into his flight suit to face another day, even if his mind is clouded with reasons why he can’t. Poe doesn’t want to see anyone else face the things that he, or Leia, Han, Luke or Finn or anyone else who has suffered under the hand of the Empire or the First Order face and that’s why he must continue to fight.
#poedameron#poe dameron headcanons#dear god its 1:30am and this is what i think about#incoherent rambling#shutuposcillatingfanx#this is long#and how my mind works after about six beers#ive got a lot of jam ups about the force awakens but Poe is not one of them#this is why i could never write a serious theory about anything because i still use words like crap their jumpsuits while trying to make a p#point

Things that emotionally wreck me every damn time:
1. Beaches (The 1988 Bette Midler/Barbara Hershey movie. Wind beneath my wings = sobbing) 2. Those sad animal commercials that I can't scramble to the remote fast enough to change the channel. 3. Futurama when Seymour is waiting for Fry to come back outside the pizza place. 4. The last half hour of Rogue One
