Michelangelo’s “the Deposition” (Kawoshin) on Canvas and Magnets
For the Christmas spirit, I thought I’d include a few pictures of my received art commission on display.
I was able to get five (5) sets of 4 magnets, one (1) 8X10 art print, and 101 4X6 prints for free as a special promotion for signing up with Shutterfly the first time. I highly recommend you all to take advantage of this deal if you haven’t already.
Printed is the original commission on a 8X10 Signature Cardstock,
Tumblr media
As well as one of the magnets among the set of 4.
Tumblr media
Continued are other magnets I treated myself to for the promotion.

I couldn’t help but share the Christmas gifts I received today! ^.^
Many thanks to @deevgart for combining two of my favorites, religious artwork and Evangelion, into a wonderful masterpiece. If you’re interested her work, please visit her Ko-fi page (https://ko-fi.com/deevgart/posts) for more information on her art commissions.
Most of all, thank you to my boyfriend for requesting this and for embracing my obsession of the two bois. You’re the best. <3

do you/will you ever have your prints available for sale? i’ve seen your art around here and on twitter, and it takes my breath away every time! the details in your drawings, the play of the light, facial expressions, all of it is amazing!
Hi! Oh, I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed my artwork! Thank you so much!!
There is but one piece of fanart you can buy, and it’s here:
DFTBA Store - Carry On Print Set/Signed Book Bundle
Apart from that, unfortunately, my fanart isn’t something I sell (I work for the fed as my day job, and selling fanart is too legally gray). BUT, I do have a dropbox where I put my high-res pictures. (The CO/WS one is mostly up-to-date. I still need to add the last couple of pictures to the RWRB one, but I’ll get to it shortly.)
Carry On/Wayward Son Dropbox Folder
Red White and Royal Blue Dropbox Folder
Basically, you can download any of these files and print them out at your local printer or upload them to services like Shutterfly, Snapfish, etc. and the prints will look decent up to 8x10 (any bigger, and you’ll get some pixelation).
I hope that helps!

I saw you mention using snapfish (or similar services) for postcard-sized prints back in 2017, do you still recommend them? Also, quality-wise, do you know if it's generally better to get them printed at the local store, or have them ship them to you? I got a few print samples a while back, but I had it printed at a local walgreens for convenience, and I'm not sure if the less rigid paper would be a minus (I personally prefer cardstock postcard print). The quality otherwise seemed fine to me.
Nattosoup:  I do not recommend Snapfish.  I recommend watching SlickDeals for a Shutterfly or Walgreens sale- particularly if it’s original art/characters.  If it’s fanart, Shutterfly will still print it, Walgreens may not. I usually have Shutterfly stuff shipped to me, pick up at my local Walgreens (great for last-minute reups) You might also want to try Catprints!  They’re affordable and offer a lot of paper options.

Inks and colours on a very old (10+ years, maybe) picture I did for @nephirnuit. She had this image in her head of elephants in fancy parade clothes, and in the midst of them all was a baby brontosaurus (yes, I know brontosaurs don’t actually exist, but in a world where Littlefoot is still a thing, can’t we just have this one?).
And then our local Safeway started doing Monopoly, and one of the prizes is a free shopping bag from Shutterfly. And she wanted a shopping bag with this on it. So, I scanned, inked, and coloured it. And I really like how it came out. :)
Patrons get to see things earlier, and have a say in what I draw. There’s a monthly fanart poll, so if there’s someone you want to see, suggest them the first week of the month.

Hi! I run kharypaytonfans on IG. I introduced this project a while ago but haven’t gotten many submissions. So I figured I’d spread this to tumblr. (Please participate and/or spread the word if you can!) So I will be attending Walker Stalker NJ in December. Khary is attending as well so obviously I’ll be meeting him again haha. I have an idea for a gift to give him, but I need help from you guys! Khary is so incredibly sweet & talented. In my opinion, he doesn’t get nearly enough appreciation. To show him how loved he is, I wanted to make a book filled with letters and fanart to give to him! What I need from you guys: Send me fanart/letters! Just obviously make sure the fanart was created by you & I’m thinking we keep the letters to like 1 page max for each. I’m thinking of creating the book through Shutterfly or something like that so it’ll look super nice! The DEADLINE is NOVEMBER 5th! This way I’ll have about a month to get it all together. Please submit everything to [email protected]! Also, please spread the word about this! I would love to have a bunch of entries ☺️ Thanks everyone! Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Can’t wait!

I've been following your SnowBaz art for like forever😂& I'm just like, "Rainbow! Hire Venessa to do a Carry On graphic novel like RN!!" Just directly inject into my brain!!! I donated to the GoldenDays zine, but I was super disappointed to find out that you can't sell your fanart & that only a select # of people can win stickers. Is there any future possibility of getting my hands on physical copies of your art? I respect your situation & don't want to pressure you, but my heart knows no logic!
Hello!!! I’m so happy you’ve been enjoying my work! Thank you so much for such lovely compliments!
Regarding owning my work, well there’s good news and bad news.
The Bad News: I can’t sell because it’s too legally gray for a government contractor like myself to get involved in. Especially because I enjoy drawing lots of canon stuff and because it’s not really possible to pretend these dudes aren’t who they are (i.e. Rainbow’s intellectual property).
The Good News: There are a few good news things, actually...
1) A print of my artwork is available on DFTBA Records in Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On/Wayward Son store! And the best thing about it is that it’s part of a glorious print set that includes CO/WS art from other beloved artists including Lauren Baldo, Susanna Rumiz, @silkwhale, @gulliblegoldfish, and @dancingwdinosaurs. Purchasing it is also a really nice way to give back to the artists who draw your favorite characters for free. See below for the images included in the set: (Mine is the middle-left image of Baz leaving the Jag on the side of the road).
Click here to buy your print set!

2) You can also download the hi-res art. I’ve placed the hi-resolution images of the rest of my work (with the exception of some recent ones I still need to upload) in a public Dropbox folder. You can download the pictures here, then load them to Shutterfly, Snapfish or coordinate with your local printer to get your own high-quality print.
Click to open the DropBox Folder.
3) STICKERS:  Um... I bought a LOT of stickers. I’ve given 20 of them to @goldendayszine for use as prizes for the raffle. Once the Zine has been fulfilled and the raffle winners have gotten their goodies, I hope to figure out a way to make the remaining stickers available for anyone else who wants one. There are about 100 left. :)
4) Future giveaways! There’s a good chance that I’ll be able to do another giveaway in the future with signed art. It may take a while (giveaways are *cough* slightly expensive), but it’ll happen.
This is, regrettably, the best I can do for the moment. Thanks so much for your interest and for being so supportive of my art!

Do you sell prints of your art anywhere? I’d love to be able to buy some and hang them up in my dorm if you do
Alas! I wish I could say yes! When it comes to my fanart, I don’t sell the images, only because the characters are very obviously Rainbow’s characters and there’s too much legal gray area to put these pieces up on a site like Redbubble without risking my government clearance for my day job. (That said, when I finally have some good prints of Manu, that will be a different story, as that intellectual property is mine to do with what I please.)
BUT, I do have a public Dropbox where all the hi-resolution images are contained, in case you or anyone else wants to download the artwork and print it out. Most of these print well at 8.5x11, so you can take the files to your local print shop or order prints at an online photo print service like Shutterfly or Snapfish.
Find all the high-res art here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ban17p4f8g6pnd2/AAD9u701sBdguylHD_pplGO8a?dl=0

Hello I went through your prints paper tag and was wondering if it's such a big deal if there's a brand logo printed at the back of the paper? It seems to be a common feature with the photo paper sold here (I'm from SEA btw). Will it make my prints look cheap and unprofessional?
Nattosoup:My mini prints say Shutterfly and Nattosoup Studio on the back, as that’s where I order my prints, and no one seems to care.  Audience demands vary from country to country, so I can’t speak for SEA, just my experiences vending in the US.  If you have a problem with it, you may be able to print through Catprint.Do any of our readers in SEA have any suggestions for where one can purchase paper or prints without a logo on the reverse?
Kiriska: Typically the printers that will watermark the back specialise in low volume photo prints, rather than high-quality art prints. So in this sense, yes, I think it makes the product look cheaper and less professional. Whether or not your audience cares is another story.
I think cheaper printing methods can be fairly standard depending on your market. If you sell mostly anime fanart goods, it may not be a big deal. If you sell scientific wildlife art, it may be a bigger issue. What’s typical for a market will always vary from country to country, state to state, genre to genre. Your best bet is to look what the quality of printing your peers are using and gauge where you want to fit in from there. After all, just because it’s common to have watermarked prints doesn’t mean you have to do the same.

Hi! I wondered if you have a print shop or something like that where one would be able to get your amazing SnowBaz artwork to hang on one's wall
Hello! Thanks so much - and that is an excellent question. Right now, there is no print shop. While I’m technically a freelancer, one of my clients is the federal gov’t and selling fanart rides the line of illegality too closely for me to do it without risk.
However, I do keep a DropBox of all the high-resolution versions of everything I create, which you are free to access and download from if you would like to print any images yourself. (For best quality, I recommend uploading to a service like Shutterfly or Snapfish and ordering prints through there as opposed to printing them out on a home office printer.)
Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ban17p4f8g6pnd2/AAD9u701sBdguylHD_pplGO8a?dl=0

Do you think sets of prints would sell better if they were smaller size (like postcards as opposed to medium prints) since the price for buying the whole set would be less? Or would the print size be completely irrelevant?
Kiriska: The dreaded answer: “it depends.”
Things to consider:
Is the art better suited for a larger size? If you’re making really intricate pieces with tons of detail, it probably looks way better in a larger size, and even if it’s cheaper for a customer to get them smaller, if they can’t see all the detail, what’s the point? Cheaper may not always be an incentive either – I get asked if my stuff is available bigger as often as I get asked if it’s available smaller.
How many pieces are in the set? If it’s a set of 3 prints, it may still be worth it to people to get them bigger. If it’s a set of 6 or 9 or whatever, space is probably more of an issue.
Are you only selling them as sets? If you’re still selling them individually, I definitely recommend opting for the size that better suits your work. Sometimes people don’t care if you intended stuff to be a set/paired together and just want one or two of the set. I have a lot of pieces that are meant to be diptychs or triptychs – a vast majority of the time they are not purchased as such. Sets are cool, but people like their flexibility.
Further reading: print size, more print size.
Nattosoup:  I only sell prints as 4X6 mini prints, so perhaps I can answer this too!
For me, larger print sizes have never sold- not fanart, not original art, just nope.  My table is full of tiny, cute things, or comics about tiny, cute people, and big prints stood out like a sore thumb.  I started offering my dino buttons as mini prints after many, many dino loving kids requested a print option for their walls, and slowly started adding other print options to the roster.  My mini prints are a mix of fanart and original art that includes images of the main character of my comic, Kara, beautiful watercolor illustrations I’ve completed, and loads of cute chibi art.  While prints aren’t a huge seller at $2 a pop (or as marked in sets), they’re a steady seller that allows me to sell art to people who can’t afford my originals or my commissions.
Mini prints are an easy way to test out the market too- wait until Snapfish, Shutterfly, or Amazon print services has a sale, and dip a toe in the water.
