Black culture is an accessory that you put on your hair, your clothes, and even your teeth. In the name of High fashion, edginess, hipster
But black problems, black issues, black dehumanisation never occurs or crosses your mind?
You deny it whenever someone brings it up.
Dear white people.
Get your head out your asses and stop making things about yourself.
You’ve ruptured cultures before, Dont do it again
love: a desi Hijabi

This is me and my sister. The picture was taken a couple years ago during the festival of Dashain (Dusherra) which is why we have red tika on our foreheads. Wear your culture with pride! #reclaimthebindi

THIS. This disgusting bullshit is what we went through in those 200+ years the Britich colonized India. So you guys going "oh, take it easy, it's just a bindi", "oh, stop whining, everybody gets teased in high school" - THIS is what the British Raj was like. And this isn't an isolated incident. We were called "dirty", cursed at, physically abused - there are incidents in our history textbooks where it saya that the British would whip and beat people on the streets - that they would try to stamp on and crush people on the street. Jallainwala Bagh is one of the few incidents that are remembered - and that because they ruined a peaceful celebration - Baisakhi is meant to be a time of new beginnings. It's when we welcome spring. And these people were just celebrating. Dyer could possibly have been certified as a psychopath, but these incidents were not isolated. I refuse to back the fuck down whwn defending my culture - you guys have taken enough from us. Argh, this makes my blood boil.

Can someone help me understand the #shutdowncoachella? I understand that wearing the bindi as a trendy fashion statement is cultural appropriation but I didn't see anyone wearing them. Could someone link me with pictures or explain why they want to shut down coachella?

to all my desi sisters: you are strong, you are beautiful, you are powerful. ive lived as a desi girl hating herself for her brown skin and dark hair, embarrassed to be seen with my father in a turban, doing everything to isolate myself from my own culture. this movement is helping me love myself and love my culture again. fuck the people who try tell you that your feelings for this are invalid. fuck the white people who are stealing from us yet again, when just a few years ago they were making us feel like shit because of who we are. this is our culture. dont let them take it.

As a halfie, who passes for white, it's always been a struggle showing my culture in public. I grew up in a super white part of the country, and any time I had henna done people would ask me if I had a skin disease. Now of course the same girls that acted like I was dirty are getting little henna dolphins
