Kazumi Watanabe reminded me of another Japanese musical outfit with their own understanding of their styles. Thus, I have to mention them, because Casiopea also represent a variant of the genre distinct from their Western contemporaries. However, one thing you can notice from them and many of their fellow countrymen might be an incredible production they have. Just listen to the tune on the link. I mean, very few of their peers on West had the similarly shiny production for their jazz explorations, the Japanese members of the idiom are quite prominent about that. Of course, their playing also has a dimension we rarely notice. Yes, I advise you to listen thoroughly again to find all the intricacies of their own music viewpoints.

Could I be understood as a musical solipsist in my discussions about the musicians that play jazz fusion as I only focus on the idiom on Western scenes? Yes, one could claim this does show my lack of perspective, since the genre appears all over the world. Japan, for instance, has many musicians in the vein. One could claim jazz fusion there served as a key ingredient for city pop, though that is an interesting story many might disagree with, but let us leave this talk for another post. To go back to our point – Casiopea shines as a great example of jazz fusion from Japan, since the group has a different viewpoint on the brand thank their Western counterparts. They serve their own sonic situations in the tone we look into.
