A bit of eggshell somehow got in, the vanilla would slip out of your fingers and dump into the batch, the baking time on the recipe was wrong, or something had spilled on your cookbook

Monotheatre 2 | The High Priestess’s Final Duel

Everything must come to an end.

With the press of a button, a robotic arm launches out and comes to whisk the convicted party away back into the recess it had come from. It's done with an even faster rate and velocity than it seemed to have been done the last time, though maybe you're imagining that difference. It's been a couple of days since you last saw this agent of death; could a few days alone make memories seem that much more cloudy?

With the absence of Ikuko comes a swift replacement in the form of the screens in the center of the room lighting up. They at first show only a blank white flash before you see a dark, grey room. Could this be another warehouse space?

Nothing seems to be happening for a couple of minutes, staying at a constant frame. It's hard to even tell it's video footage with how still it is. However, a large electrical noise comes from the above and the camera shifts, rotating swiftly to the source.

Out of the ceiling comes out a platform. It looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi film; it's a metal open elevator with a light-up blue tiling floor that is small, barely enough to fit a single person. It smoothly descends on its supports at the corners, a chain moving behind it. On the platform itself you can see Ikuko as she rises to her feet, using the fencing around her platform to help herself up. It also appears as if on her arm is some kind of toy? Oh, a duel disk.

The camera takes the opportunity to look around a bit, though it's clearly fixed in whatever location it is, only rotating. There's a large square hole beneath Ikuko's platform which has now suspended about three-fourths the room's height above said hole. Between the hole and wherever this camera is is a light-up grid composed of tiling similar to flooring of Ikuko's elevator.

Bizarrely enough, that's not where it finishes as the viewpoint goes a complete 180 away from your so-called "murderer." There's a large, red button low on a wall behind where this camera had initially been looking at but more noteworthy is the sight of a pale hand reaching down to take a duel disk almost identical to the one Ikuko had been fashioned with. The mystery person picks it up off the railing of their own platform and after a bit turns back around.

When the camera returns to its original angle, it's just in time to show you Ikuko's expression turn into one of surprise. Perhaps the music playing deafens her, but one can imagine that she might have been gasping or maybe that guess in itself is completely wrong but it doesn't matter.

Numbers flicker until they are hologrammed clearly for you all. '8000' it displays next to Ikuko and backwards next to your mystery player's. This number also matches the one depicted on your cameraperson's duel disk.

And with that the game begins.

The screens flicker a bit and when it stabilizes, you realize you're no longer bound to the perspective of the mystery person you had once been. You're closer to Ikuko, aimed more at her than at the scenery around. If you believed this would give you a glimpse of her opponent, that turns out false when it's revealed a hologram of a large monster is in front of their lift, obscuring them from view.

It's a bit hard to follow the game without a commentator or even worse if you don't have an understanding of the rules, but by the scowl growing on your classmate's face, you gather this isn't a fair one. Any card drawn from her deck seems to be not Yu-Gi-Oh! cards but rather the same tarot cards that have been displayed by your two chaperones.

Placing them on her disk either portrait or landscape style doesn't seem to produce any holograms the same way her opponent's do. The projection of the creature moves and draws its sword down on your peer. Of course, as artificial as it is, its blade doesn't cause her to flinch but the next thing you know, the 8000 next to her drops down to 5500.

That rolling number seems to trigger something with Ikuko's platform. It plummets, the sudden movement of it seeming to knock the champ off her balance briefly but she saves herself by grasping onto the support rail around her. Still, although she saved herself from that first surprise, that doesn't stop it from coming back as with no usable cards in her hand, Ikuko cannot defend herself against the onslaught of attacks in the turns that follow.

Her number drops and drops, closer and closer to an uncertain fate but whatever it is, it can't be good news. After all, you had all seen what had happened to ZenZen. If she were to be given a punishment just like him, then even if the presentation wasn't the same, surely that still meant the same end result.

The aura of futility begins to cloud and dawn and with the rate that the math is going, it would only take one more attack against a defenseless Ikuko to take that number down to below zero.

Maybe it's a desperation born out of knowing she's about to lose if she can't figure out something and fast, but whatever motivates her, you watch as the champion removes the duel disk attached to her arm and chucks it forward with a tremendous force and speed. She's no SHSL athlete of any kind but fate might as well have made her one in that moment. It's a stroke of luck no different from a miracle but the contraption hits the big red button from before with enough accuracy and force to actually press it. It could be a sweet turn, a last-ditch attempt at breaking out of this fate...!

Instead, the floor beneath Ikuko's feet collapses to hang at the sides of the platform, leaving nothing for her to stand on, and she plummets down into the hole below. It's deep but you soon see a spray of blood coming up, indicating her fall.

Though you can't see her, you're left with the knowledge that her gamble made upon intuition, made upon hope, would be her last-- that no matter how anything worked, she was doomed from the start to the grave they had made her.

headcanons for shsl pastry chef chihiro who was in love with shsl gardener naegi

heres ur headcanons chihiro! i hope u like them, and if u want me to make any changes just let me know and i can do so! - mod kiibo - chihiro loved making all sorts of pastries for other people in any and every flavor. they just really liked seeing peoples eyes widen when they got a taste of the sweets chihiro made for them, and it made their day when people asked if they could make more for them, since it was just another excuse for chihiro to make loads of sweets for their class - naegi initially became friends with chihiro because they offered to plant all kinds of fruit for chihiro to use in their pastries, which honestly excited chihiro to no end! fruit from an shsl gardener had to taste pretty good, even if his specialty was in flowers and not produce. in no time, naegi was giving chihiro little baskets of fresh fruit to cook with - whenever naegi would stop by to give chihiro some of the fruits he grew, the two of them would stop and spend some time talking to each other, and chihiro would gift him with any pastries they were currently making. it wasnt a very formal exchange in any sense of the word, but chihiro wouldve felt bad just getting fruit without giving naegi anything - through these little interactions, chihiro ended up finding themself falling pretty hard with naegi, though they was embarrassed to admit it. still, even if they didnt tell naegi outright how they felt, they still enjoyed having him visit with more goods and just being able to have a nice conversation with him, even if it was pretty short - on days where chihiro would bring pastries for everyone in their class, they would start bringing naegi special pastries made with some of the fruit naegi would give to them. chihiro would work on these pastries as if their life depended on it, so they usually ended up being pretty good; naegi especially seemed to enjoy eating them - as a way to thank chihiro for being so kind to him and giving him special treats, naegi eventually started stuffing a few flowers on top of the fruits in the baskets that he would send to chihiro, and chihiro found them all to be beautiful. it took a while for naegi to figure out their favorites, but once he did he would make sure to give those to chihiro - occasionally chihiro would invite naegi over to help them bake, just so that he could see what all chihiro does. even though naegi isnt as experienced in making pastries as chihiro, he has a little bit of experience with them, and what they make ends up looking really cute. chihiro keeps sneaking some of the pastries for themself, though - there have also been plenty of times where chihiro will go and help naegi take care of his garden, listening to him telling chihiro which flowers they need to be extra careful around. after all, some plants arent good for others to touch. even though chihiro does some helping, for the most part they just end up admiring all the plants everywhere - naegi and chihiro also spend time together that doesnt revolve around their talents. for instance, if the two of them see a fair in town they do their best to take the opportunity to go there, and naegi ends up wasting his money on the games despite chihiros warning that theyre probably rigged. at least naegi wins one stuffed animal for them - any time that chihiro spends with naegi is time well spent in their eyes. naegis just a really nice guy, and he always knows what to say and do to put a huge smile on chihiros face, even though he doesnt try. there are lots of things chihiro would love to tell naegi, but theyre sure that they just wouldnt ever be able to find the right words to do so

So… I have read spoilers about the end of the game in Reddit. I don’t know anymore what can be trust haha.

MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT NDRV3

-In NDRV3’s world HPA is just a fiction who creates Danganronpa.

- DR became so popular that they create a TV reality show and the one in the game is the 53rd  season (V was not for victory but for 5 ?).

- However, the MM (Tsumugi) makes this season a real killing game. She took away everyone memories and put them fake. 

- She cosplays Dr characters at some point in the game during a trial (again in this world they are just fictional character) which explains we see Junko, Komaeda etc.. in some screeshots

-All of the contestants of the killing game were agree to participate.

-The contestants do that for the fame or for the money (Ouma do it for charity though ?).

-Most of the people we know (except Kiibo) have all fake personalities because of there memories taken away. Some true personalities are not as sweet as we though (If what I read is true my poor Ouma doesn’t deserve all this hate..).

-If i understood right they create SHSL with the “Izuru method” in order to put them in the killing game ? So nearly all the SHSL are fake. They don’t have talents they are just normies who wants to participate in a TV show.

- There are 3 endings (all of them are too sad for me to be honest). In true and good end  Kiibo destroys everything, killing Tsumugi and sacrificing himself. The final survivors are Maki, Saihara and Himiko.

-In the end the credits appeared on a screen with people looking at it like in a theater ? In fact I found on youtube the epilogue. I don’t know if there are many endings but in the one I saw the 3 survivors are talking about Danganronpa, fictions and taking down Team Daganronpa, the producers of this killing game (?).

**-The role of Tsumugi is very confused. I don’t know yet if in the previous season of the reality show there were true death or it was just acting so… The fact that she makes “the fiction becoming true” is very uncertain. There is a possibilty that she was choosed to be the mastermind (some says she talked about being the 53rd Junko) by the producers (in the case of the previous killing games being "real"). Maybe in every season there was a new Junko and It just happened to be her this time ? The face in her execution seems to show that she wasn’t very crazy like Junko or happy to die. Maybe she’s just another victim after all ? 

-It seems that the true villain are us, the audience. The last PTA is against fans who don’t want DR to stop. Thanks Kodaka

TL ; dr : In fact NDRV3 is about a Tv reality show about talents put in a killing game inspired by a popular game franchise which became a real killing game because some twisted mastermind decided that ?

I am conflicted because I feel at the same time interested, salty and sad. The fact that Kodaka made a critic about tv reality show and all is very cool for me. The fact that peoples were ready to be put in a “killing game” just for money and fame is very creepy but it reflected really well the mentality of some people irl. I don’t know if he do that in that optic though 

  I would have liked the game to be independent of HPA, in a completely different universe. I don’t like the idea of the danganronpa we loved and played being just fiction in canon. If it was an other universe (without the different timelines thing, just a different universe), it will leave the characters and the world we loved in HPA arc intact. ( i can’t explain very well but I hope you understand what I mean with that). I love happy endings. With NDRV3 i’m just frustrated because I don’t even have a correct ending. I was fine with DR1′s ending. Even SDR2′s ending. But that… Kodaka made a HUGE plot twist with this game. He just threw away everything we thought. All this is have a very Hunger Games vibe.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong ! I just wanted to talk a bit about what I had read. I think this game is the end of Danganronpa franchise…I just look forward to see more explanation and translations.

Does that mean the others had not any talents in the first place, except Suihara, Maki and someone else? I read that the others might have not been talented, but they have been pretty close in regards to that matter. What do you think was Ouma's talent? Even if he was supposed to be a "normalo" in reality, he was way too clever not to have one. Or let's say his greatest "strength" instead of "talent."

The whole bit about which ones did and didn’t have talentswas definitely a bit confusing near the end, and left people very uncertain. Pluswith added twists like Maki’s talent cover-up, the fact that Ouma is constantlylying about his supposed evil organization and true talents/objectives, andthat even people like Momota who had never actually completed objectivesrequired for their talent like actually going to space were included, meansthat there was even more confusion of what was or wasn’t real.

In the end, one of the only characters whose talent stillcounts as legitimate is Kiibo, by virtue of actually being a robot (and eventhen, that’s not exactly a talent so much as just…his existence). All of theothers, including Saihara and Maki, might have had hobbies, talents, andinterests, but were otherwise perfectly normal high school students prior tothe game’s start. The talents and backstories given to them were less aboutsubverting their personalities completely for the most part, and instead about buildingon aspects or interests within their personas which were already there, butaltering them slightly for the sake of the game.

One of the few audition tapes Tsumugi actually shows in theChapter 6 trial is Saihara’s own, and from it we can see that he askedspecifically to be a SHSL Detective on the show. His intentions at the timewere about being able to perform “cool closed-room tricks” that only adetective would excel at, but clearly his objectives and intentions weresubverted for the sake of entertainment on the show.

With Maki, she never actually believed that she was the SHSLCaregiver from the start; that part was only a ruse because she felt comingclean as the SHSL Assassin would only jeopardize her position with the othersand force her to confront aspects of her past which she didn’t particularlywant to think about or confront. She lied about being a caregiver because ofher days spent actually taking care of other children in the orphanage whereshe grew up (and again, we only know that she had this particular backstoryin-game, but not much about what her life was like outside of the game).

Even her talent of being an assassin was something providedto her in the game, though. My guess is that from an entertainment perspective,Tsumugi wanted to have at least one character on the show who was cold andruthless, and who had a definite in-game history of killing people. Thereforeregardless of whether she actually killed anyone herself or not, she’d still bea prime suspect for anyone who found out the truth, and her talent would bemore than sufficient to cause discord and suspicion among the group (as it didfor a while in Chapter 2).

Not much is known about Tsumugi’s talent and whether sheactually did have a superb knack for cosplaying outside of the game or whetherit was something she specifically asked for as her own talent while setting allof this up with the producers. Considering what we can glean from her inChapter 4, I’m inclined to think she did do cosplaying as a hobby in the realworld too; she mentions that before she got an “official sponsor” for hercosplaying, she simply worked “several part time jobs” to fund her hobby. Thatsounds much more like an ordinary, not SHSL interest turned fervent hobby thana lot of the other talents, and my guess is that she did specifically ask thatit be taken to the next level in-game.

But you raise a very good point in that just because theywere all “normies” doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have talents or things thatthey were good at! Clearly, aspects of their personalities might have been slightlytwisted, but I believe their inherent interests and talents were left the same.For example, in-game Saihara’s intentions are not about getting away with closed-roomtricks in order to look cool, but instead about cohesively bringing the group togetherand overcoming his own self-esteem issues. However, his love for novels(particularly the DR novels) and for mysteries and uncovering the truth aboutthings is clearly left in as part of his in-game persona.

People raise suspicions about Momota being a bully pre-gamebecause his audition tape was also shown, and said something along the lines ofwanting to participate in the killing game to get famous and earn cash. Butconsidering the degree to which this particular killing game show was regardedas a part of everyday life and entertainment in the ndrv3 universe, especiallyamong “normies,” I’d say Momota’s wishes weren’t too far off from what most ofthe audience probably thought while watching the game themselves. Even seeingthings like death, murder, and grotesqueness on the screen constantly, thesheer fact that it felt was designed to be caricatured and super over-the-topmade it feel fictional to theaudience, and therefore enviable. Ergo, I’m inclined to believe that Momota’ssuper supportive streak and willingness to back up and protect others as soonas he’s decided that they’re “one of the group” is also something inherent tohis character, even before the game started.

So now we arrive at the issue of Ouma. Unlike many of theother characters, by virtue of his entire backstory and even his talent itselfbeing imbued with SHSL Despair, his personality, memories, and backstory weretwisted far beyond the normal scope of most of the other characters’. I’vealready touched on the fact that I think this attempt to twist him too far isprecisely why Tsumugi’s plans backfired, and why Ouma was left knowing therewas a definite dissonance in his in-game memories, and never fell for thebrainwashing ploy at all.

Many people raise the question of whether his near-geniuslevels of perception and deductive reasoning were something given to him forthe game or not. I’m personally inclined to think that, yes, he was extremely smart even from before. Somany people get distracted by the fact that he was a comedian prior to the gamethat I think they have a lot of trouble meshing the extremely cunning,quick-witted Ouma we see in the game with the idea of a very mischievous butotherwise sweet kid who liked to wear clown masks and tell jokes.

The thing is, humor is essentially a weapon and a strength.Being a comedian, at least a good comedian, requires a tremendous amount oftalent, and the ability to be quick on one’s feet. Knowing how to cater to anaudience and how to act for a crowd is undeniably a talent, and havingknowledge about what makes people laugh or what they enjoy means it can also besubverted, turned against them, and used into a tool of provocation instead.

Even as a “normie,” I think Ouma was incredibly smart. It’ssimply that, had Tsumugi not attempted to twist his personality so drasticallyand imbue him with despair for the sake of trying to use him as her own pawn, Idon’t think he would ever have gone through with some of the things he didin-game, or been made so cynical, bitter, and malicious that he would literallyput his own life on the line for the sake of stopping the killing game.Pre-game Ouma might very well have agreed with people like Kaede and Momota onhow best to lead the group, but in-game Ouma was cynical and disillusionedenough by his own self-awareness that his objective switched very early on from“saving everyone” to “striking back at the mastermind” instead.

Anyway, thank you for this sort of question! I personallylove the idea that all of the ndrv3 characters were normies prior to the game,because I think it gives a lot of room for headcanons and interpretation, whilestill leaving the core of their characters intact. And as interesting and funas SHSL talents are, I’ve always very much felt that even in dr1 and sdr2 theywere meant to be a sort of commentary on the constant pressure in Japanesesociety to be talented and successful at all costs, no matter what, and thatthose who can’t make the cut are essentially culled and have their self-worthstepped on (see Hinata, for instance).

These are very real problems which lead to serious issueslike an incredibly high rate of suicide attempts by high school and collegestudents in Japan. Therefore, I’ve always admired DR’s ability to say thatwhile yes, talent is all well and good, sometimes the desperate need to betalented in society is precisely what causes problems in the first place. Ilike the idea that characters in a DR game can remain important and core partsof the game regardless of whether they have SHSL talents or not.

The Country

Aineikas is a tiny country, only around the size and population count of Singapore (5.5 million people in 278 sq miles. In comparison, New York City has 8.5 million people in 302 sq miles) but is fairly wealthy per capita. It is based extremely lightly on Saudi Arabia for location, climate and for a few of the cultural aspects. Despite being located in a desert climate, the country is fairly green, with many people tending their own rooftop gardens. Fresh water is plentiful for their area as they have desalination plants steadily treating saltwater from their coastline. Skyscrapers stand tall in between more ancient structures. Aineikas is sometimes called the Switzerland of the Middle East due to its neutrality on many topics, their finance industry, and their renown for producing and trading in luxury goods. The country is ruled by a monarchy, following a line of male heirs through the Nejem line.
