Novel/Show VegasPete …Speculation with some novel spoilers & this got longer than intended.

If you read the VegasPete chapters you know it is not an S&M situation. Pete’s pain is real and horrible, there is zero pleasure for him, and all his motivations are to survive or escape. None of his internal monologues convey anything else. Yes, later there is some compassion, some physical response and even jealousy (which freaks Pete out). I did read somewhere that originally Vegas was going to end up in jail but one of the authors decided they loved the character and wanted to keep him around. If so, they should have rewritten those chapters because it is (& it pains me to say this as a Bible/ShowVegas lover) a tale of having a relationship with your abuser. I will still defend novel Vegas/Pete fans loving their ship though, you are largely adults and its fiction set in a violent and criminal world.

Now the show seems to be going in another direction. As a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan (if anyone remembers that show), Buffy’s most significant romantic relationships were with two vampires because they recognised the darkness that comes with being a killer. There are probably more parallels here with Spike/Buffy, who though a soulless vamp, is also a fool for love. Buffy becomes his moral compass because he loves her. I read another post talking about the barriers to Kinnporsche being outside factors while the barrier to VegasPete is internal ie who they are. It was interesting to me because they same comparisons were made about Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike by a writer on the show at the time. I digress.

My speculation is that Vegas and Pete are going to recognise the darkness in each other, and I think it might happen quickly, either during torture or violence (back to Buffy and Spike who first have sex while having a physical & very violent fight). It’s going to surprise and rock them both and they are not going to waste a huge amount of effort or time denying it. Now this is more hope than speculation, but I think they will both try to move on/separate but not be able to. I am not a fan of lovesick pining like we had with Vegas in the novel. I’d prefer the being drawn to each other which I think suits the show characterisations better.

I also hope we don’t get the car accident/coma route. I like it if in the middle of the fight between the two families, Pete and Vegas eyes meet, they’ll smile, and Pete will remove his pin, Vegas will take off his family ring and they’ll leave together (picking Macau up on the way) and head to Pete’s island until season 2.

I could be way off though LOL.
