Ten Sides (Part 29)
TyLee and Mai sit with her in the palace garden. She lets TyLee play around with her hair, allows the girl to braid her locks while Mai talks about how things have been around the palace. Things are still somewhat tense but Aang’s reassurances and input go a long way.
She thinks that she should feel relief. Joy. Gratitude. This is her second chance. Glorious redemption. The one that everyone swears is beautiful and powerful. But she only feels weak. Weak and stupid.
She is afraid of what she is becoming. Of who she is becoming. Afraid that this person, whoever she is, is too vulnerable, not strong enough. No matter how much Aang assures her, she feels different. Weaker, vulnerable. And maybe that is simply the byproduct of opening up, perhaps too soon. It might also be the result of stress finally catching up to her in full. Or maybe it is normal to feel this way; to feel somewhat exposed. Maybe she has been so closed up all of her life that even leaving the door just slightly ajar is now the same as removing it entirely.
When she speaks of herself, no matter how minute the detail, she always feels like she has said too much. Or that what she had said was the wrong thing. But Aang grins and TyLee seems to relax. This time she laughs, “it’s nice to see the real you, Azula.”
And Azula’s stomach lurches, because that’s just it. She isn’t sure if this is the real her. Her words are authentic, her feelings are honest, her actions are genuine and wholly hers. And yet they feel foreign, as though someone else is making the decisions for her. It feels uncannily similar to having the threads of her aura pulled by Aang. And yet it also feels true and real.
Apparently she has grown too quiet because Mai asks her if she is okay. And she nods, “just thinking again.” Sometimes she wishes that she could stop thinking. Most of the time she does.
“What’s wrong?” Aang asks anyway.
“Nothing, Avatar.” She might tell him later.
TyLee steps back and beams from ear to ear. “You look so pretty!” She clasps her hands together.
“Thank you.” Azula replies. “Let me do yours?”
“Of course!” Somehow she manages to smile wider. “And then you can do Mai’s.”
“We’ll see how yours turns out.” Azula mumbles. “I can barely fashion my own topknot, so I won’t promise anything elegant.”
Mai chuckles. “Are you actually admitting that she’s better at something than you?”
She knows that it was a harmless comment, a good natured joke. And she might have taken it well if she wasn’t feeling so out of sorts already. If it hadn’t come as one more confirmation of the changes she is afraid of. She tries her best to answer in kind. She clears her throat, “absolutely not, I would never.”
Apparently she has, for once, managed to strike a tone that conveyed hearty banter because all three of them laugh. She manages a small smile.
“If you do a good job with Mai and TyLee I’d love for you to try to braid my hair.”
Azula rolls her eyes, “grow some hair and we can talk, Avatar.”
He laughs again and slings an arm over her shoulder. Her tummy still flutters at his affections. Though she can’t say that it is unpleasant. Not so far as the feeling itself goes. But it emphasises exactly what she does find unpleasant; she has been herself for quite a while now, but sometimes she still has her doubts. Especially when the changes in her are so glaringly obvious.
.oOo.
Aang isn’t even slightly surprised when she pulls him aside later that evening. He isn’t sure exactly what is bothering her this time, but if he had to take a guess, he would say that she is fretting over collapsing the progress she has made with Mai and TyLee or has a general feeling of social anxiety. Whatever is on her mind, he can sense it on her and has been sensing it on her for several hours now.
“Sit.” She points at the sofa.
“I can stand and listen to you. You know that right?”
“Sit, Avatar.” She repeats again. Apparently it had not been a suggestion, she pulls him down with her as she takes her own seat. She doesn’t even give him a chance to ask her what is on her mind; “How much of it do you think is me?”
“What?” He asks.
“How much of this...change do you think is natural and how much is because of…?”
He considers her question, finding it a bit more difficult to answer than he would like. Truth be told, he thinks that it may be a mix of both in a roundabout, ripple effect sort of way. That it is a matter of thing leading to another. “I thought that we were over this.”
“I thought so too.” She agrees so quietly that he almost doesn’t catch it.
“Azula it’s you. All of this is you. Your emotions. Your own emotions.”
“I know.” She mumbles, downcast eyes fixed upon her palms. “But I just want to know where they come from.”
“They come from you. From you reacting to a strange situation. From you, learning who you really are. This, all of this--the meditation, talking to Mai and Tylee, all of it--isn’t just about working through traumas. It’s about finding who you really are. For real. And I think that you’re doing it.”
“But...how come it doesn’t feel right?”
“Because you’re out of your comfort zone.” He suggests. “So it’s going to feel weird at first.”
“How do you know, Avatar? You’ve never done this before.”
“But Zuko has.”
Azula cringes, “don’t tell me that you’re trying to suggest…”
“Talking to your brother?” He quirks a brow. “I’m not trying, I am. I am suggesting that you talk to him. He would understand better than I do.” He squeezes her hand. “But I can promise you that this is you.” The look on her face is entirely skeptical. He has to laugh, “I can tell that you’re you because you’re still suspicious and demanding. But if you need more proof, go talk to your brother.”
.oOo.
That she is even humoring this idea is unsettling. She sits with her knees drawn up to her chest. Truly she thinks that this is pointless, talking to him is always pointless--a good way to infuriate herself. Zuko sits down and hands her a cup of tea, she supposes that it is as good of an ice breaker as any. Really, she ought to force the Avatar to endure this with her but she can’t rely on the man for everything. Though she has an earful for him at the ready if this doesn’t go well. She sips at her tea.
“What was it like, Zuzu?”
“What was what like?”
She peers into her tea and clears her throat. “Redemption. What was that like for you?”
He grimaces, “painful and humiliating.”
“Wonderful.” She grumbles. “How so?”
“Well first I had this fever...I had so many dreams and they were really bizarre. Uncle said that I did something that was so in conflict of my own self image that I was at war with my own mind and body…”
“That’s horrifying.” She deadpans. Though she supposes that she has already been sick in her own right, has already been through war with her own mind. She isn’t sure that the fight is over. “And then what?”
“And then you showed up and made it all for nothing.”
She folds her arms across her chest and sighs, “never mind, Zuko.” She puts the teacup aside and rises. She begins making more specific tweaks to the dialogue she has planned for Aang.
Zuko gives a sigh of his own, “wait, don’t go.”
“Why shouldn’t I?”
“Because there’s more to tell.”
“I know the rest, Zuko. You stayed here in the palace until you got tired of it and then you ran along to join the Avatar, leaving me with father after you decided to tell him that the Avatar was still alive. He took the news very ‘well’, if you wanted to know.”
He cringes again. “We’re just really good at destroying each other, aren’t we?”
“I didn’t come here to talk about that.” She props herself up against the couch.
“Then what did you come to talk about, Azula?”
“I just wanted to know what redemption is like. If it’s even worth it.” She is certain that it isn’t. Not at all. But she has already begun the process and she can’t take herself out of it now. She can either succeed or fail.
“It’s worth it.” He says without hesitation. But that is so easy for him to say. He has always had someone to believe in him. He was always a good person at his core. Unlike him, there isn’t going to be anything left of her by the end of all of this. “Why?”
Azula shrugs.
His expression softens, it seems to light up with understanding. “You’re trying to ask for advice, aren’t you?”
“I’m trying to figure out if...if I’m supposed to lose everything I am in the process.”
“Of course you’re not supposed to lose all of yourself! Just the hateful, angry parts.
But what if anger and hurt are all that she is? “Well then maybe I’m just doing it wrong.”
“There is no right way to do this...”
“Then why do I feel like I’m not actually me anymore?” Spirits, she is making a perfect fool of herself.
“Because you’re overthinking things?” He quirks a brow. “Aang hasn’t touched your spirit energy in a long time. That has nothing to do with it. The only influence Aang has is his personality. He just…” Zuko ponders, “he just makes you think about things in a new way. Something about him just makes you want to be a better version of yourself. Uncle is the same way.”
“Prove it, I need proof that…” she trails off. “That this decision is mine alone.”
“I can tell that you’re not being tampered with because you’ve been a pain in the ass since you came home.”
Azula folds her arms, “I wouldn’t have to be a pain in the ass if I weren’t exposed to unbearable amounts of idiocy each day. Maybe if I didn’t have to listen to you and Aang belch our entire national anthem, I wouldn’t be so agitated.”
He wasn’t supposed to laugh, but he does and quite loudly. “I think that it’s safe to say that you haven’t lost everything that makes you, you.”
“You’re wrong.”
“Am I? You’re still snarky and witty and sometimes you say blunt off-color things that no one else dares to say.” He pauses. “Something tells me that Sangyul wouldn’t tolerate that.”
“No.” She agrees, “I suppose that he wouldn’t.” She finds herself, again, a comfortable position on the sofa.
“You’re supposed to change a lot. That’s…”
“The whole point.” Azula finishes for him. She takes a sip of her tea and nods.
“Yeah. Just try not to think about it too much. I know that you don’t like to but, just let things happen on their own.”
“I’ll try.” She mumbles. She supposes that things have been happening on their own lately anyways. “If I need a reminder--that I’m still me--just say something stupid for me.”
“Like what.”
She shrugs, “I don’t know, just talk to me, Zuzu. You always say something dumb eventually.” This conversation is the exception.

Part 2
♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
The worst thing about being a popular fashion model, Adrien thought, was his image pasted all over the city. He had to see himself in the mirror enough as it was; seeing himself dressed up in the most feminine clothes his father could design, his long blond hair professionally styled into curls and braids and up-dos, and with enough makeup for three circus clowns made his skin itch. All of Paris, all of the world saw him as he was on the billboards and posters, in heavily edited magazine photos, set on backgrounds of flowers and butterflies. Everyone saw Adrien as a girl, Gabriel Agreste’s beautiful model daughter. Everyone except himself.
He had thought about coming out to his mother and father before, but while he was trying to find the nerve or the right moment, he overheard his father firing one of his models for coming out as trans. After that, his anxiety grew. He could never tell his parents, especially his father, not until he was living on his own and not relying on his modelling career and his father for survival.
Even when he went to school for the first time, he had to introduce himself as his dead name and endure the misgendering. He had considered coming out to Chloe, too, but while she didn’t seem to be transphobic, he didn’t trust her enough to keep it a secret. She thrived on gossip, sometimes even at the expense of her friends. Whether or not it was on purpose didn’t exactly matter to Adrien in this situation.
Plagg was the first person he ever came out to, not entirely on purpose. When he transformed into Chat Noir the first time, he actually cried for a few minutes. He felt different and he felt right and when he caught his reflection in a mirror he saw exactly who he wanted to be. Aside from his inhuman eyes and the strangeness of the costume, of course. His hair was short and messy and the makeup his father insisted he wear every day was entirely gone.
His costume was thick black leather, covering his whole body up to his neck where a bell sat at his collar. There was soft padding on his shoulders, elbows, and knees, barely visible under the leather. He had black combat boots with green soles that reached half way up his calf, laced with bright green laces, and lined with soft material if the same colour. His gloves, too, were black leather with soft green lining, claws on the fingers. Over the black bodysuit, he had a sleeveless hoodie; the fabric was looser and lighter than the leather, it almost seemed like cotton except it was sleek and waterproof. The pouch pocket was bright green with a single black paw print in the middle. All of the lining was the same bright green, visible in the hood and extending to the hems of the shirt. The hood itself had spaces cut out for the leather cat ears on his head, and fit loose and comfortable without falling over his eyes. Most importantly to Adrien, his chest was entirely flat without pressure.
After the first Akuma was stopped and Adrien transformed back, Plagg was suddenly gentle where he wasn’t before. “So what was that, then? What are your pronouns? Got a different name than the one I know?” After answering the questions and having another emotional moment, Plagg was back to being aloof and snarky, seemingly only concerned with cheese.
Adrien warmed up to the little cat-god fast. It felt more than amazing to be called the right thing for once, and Plagg at the least acknowledged his angry and frustrated rants about anything related to his gender that he’d never been able to share with anyone before. “As long as you keep giving me cheese,” Plagg had said, but somewhere along the way the meaning of the sentence changed to “always”, unspoken but genuine.
At school, things started out nice despite the rough start from being Chloe’s friend. The misgendering and dead name weighed down on him, though, and soon his new friends shared their concern about him. No one had any idea what it was about. It could be anything from his father to his mother to his modelling to just not getting enough sleep, but he’d hidden himself enough that no one would ever guess what it truly was about.
Nino was good about (sort of) silent comfort, offering to talk about it but relenting easily and moving to sharing music, food, memes, stories, and just a comforting presence. Alya always tried to figure out what was wrong and when she came to her own conclusions she would give him advice, though it was never the advice he needed. And Marinette...
Though Marinette was shy and got flustered easily, when her friends were in pain, she would stop at nothing to help them feel better. When he sighed about going home at the end of the day, she would invite him over to do homework, which usually ended up actually being video games. It became almost a routine by the spring, the two of them (and sometimes their friends) hanging out in the Dupain-Cheng apartment, snacking on yesterday’s left-over pastries while they played games, watched movies, talked, or rarely actually doing homework. Marinette’s parents were incredibly kind to Adrien, he was even envious that Marinette had such a supportive family. She was open about her biromantic identity, and never suffered for it at home.
As a result of their time spent together and Marinette’s own tendencies to not back down from helping her friends, she was the second person he came out to. It was a mess of tears between them, and Marinette apologized profusely for the misgendering, despite having no idea she was doing it. It made Adrien laugh, which made Marinette laugh, and then they were both laughing and crying at the same time. When Sabine came up to check on them, Adrien found he didn’t care that she was seeing him like this, and didn’t try to hide his identity from her anymore. Then, Sabine was crying with them, hugging Adrien close and giving him all the affirmations he never got from another human. (It was then that he decided he was now Adrien Dupain-Cheng, and she and Tom were his new parents.)
They all understood how important it was to keep this new information a secret, from everyone. If it got to his father or, gods forbid, the media, everything would go to hell in a hand basket. Marinette helped him fix his makeup before he left, apologizing even more about him needing to wear it. As usual, Sabine snuck some fresh pastries into his bag while he pretended not to notice when she hugged him goodbye. On the way out, Tom stopped him. The bakery was empty, just closed for the evening minutes before. “Adrien,” the news had reached him earlier via Sabine, “if you ever ever need a place to go for any reason, you’re always welcome here. No questions asked, any time day or night. He had to hand a napkin to Adrien, tears gathering in his eyes again. As Adrien’s car pulled up to the front of the bakery, they said goodbye for the night, and Adrien was on his way back to the mansion. It wasn’t home, not anymore.
He came out to Ladybug third, but he didn’t know if it counted as third when he was Chat Noir. It was a rather casual interaction, against all expectations. The two of them were jogging across rooftops, keeping their eyes out for any sort of problem, just a regular Saturday patrol. They were talking about TV shows, sharing their theories for the next episode and the rest of the season; Ladybug theorized that one of the characters was a trans man, and Chat Noir seized the opportunity without a second thought. “Oh, like me,” he said, and Ladybug didn’t even blink. She just smiled at him, and he smiled back. Before they parted for the night, she thanked him for trusting her with his secret and promised it was safe with her. “I know, my Lady, I wouldn’t have told you if I thought you wouldn’t.” Nothing even changed between them after that, though Ladybug did seem to talk more openly about queer subjects when they came up.
He came out to other classmates and friends on a case by case basis, with Marinette there for support every time. Nathaniel, Alix, Nino, Rose and Juleka, Kagami. People he could trust entirely to keep it a secret and that he knew weren’t queerphobic from their time knowing each other. He always had some anxiety about it anyways, but with constant unspoken support from Marinette and her parents, it didn’t seem as daunting as before. Nathaniel drew pictures of him with different styles of short hair and more masculine outfits, “for when you’re able to choose your appearance”. Marinette had helped Nathaniel design the outfits, and she had plenty more in her own sketchbook designed just for Adrien. Alix and Nino casually called him “dude” and “bro”, a way to affirm him without actually outing him, since the terms were so casual and usually neutral.
As his support outside of the mansion grew, Adrien realized day after day just how terribly he was treated by his father, and Natalie and the other staff by proxy. Aside from his father’s thinly veiled queerphobia, he also controlled Adrien’s diet, his schedule, his social life, his career, his finances, and almost every aspect of his life. Before going to school, he thought most families were like that. It wasn’t until Alya complained about being saddled with babysitting again and the others lamented with her that three evenings that week was a bit excessive that Adrien realized most of his classmates actually got to decided what they did in their spare time without having to beg for permission. They got to choose what to eat for lunch, some even got to make their own food, and they didn’t have to follow a strict diet. They weren’t constantly afraid of their parents punishing them at the slightest mistake.
He spent more and more time at the Dupain-Cheng’s, at home, they even gave him his own key. More than once they’d woken up early to open the bakery, just to find him curled up on the couch in his clothes from the day before, the throw blanket wrapped tightly around him. Marinette made plenty of casual clothes and loungewear for him, until half of her closet was his. They almost always had a plate of leftovers from dinner with his name on it in the fridge. One afternoon, they surprised Adrien; the room that was formerly the office was converted into a full bedroom with his clothes moved into the closet already. The room was even decorated, soft green and light grey, paintings on the walls, a desk with a silver cat paperweight next to a lamp. Plagg seemed even more excited about it than Adrien was, which was saying a lot because Adrien was over the moon. They really were serious about the “anytime, no questions asked”.
After three years of school and crime fighting, Adrien made the biggest decision in his life. He talked to the bank and a lawyer. He had his rightful savings moved from the account under his father’s surveillance to a brand new private account. He had his friends and real family at his back. And then, he came out to his father. It went about as well as he expected; Gabriel threw a fit, accused Adrien of acting out for attention, and ultimately ended up locking Adrien in his room and forbidding him from going to school. Fortunately for Adrien, he had an escape plan in the form of a magical ring.
He was across the city in a matter of minutes, detransformed, and contacting his lawyer. His emancipation was officially in process. He texted the Dupain-Cheng family chat letting them know he told his father and it didn’t go well, but he was not in the house and he was safe. They were the only ones who knew about his plan, given they were part of it all. Though the idea of living full time with Marinette gave him butterflies, he could ignore his crush for everyone’s comfort.
Before his father or Natalie had a chance to suspend his access to his accounts, he made an Instagram post. A photo of himself, no makeup and his hair pulled back into a bun so it wasn’t so visible, wearing one of the more formal outfits Marinette made for him (a blue suit with a white undershirt and a pink bow tie). It had been taken a few days earlier, in front of a nondescript grey wall in his bedroom, unable to be linked to any location. As the caption, he wrote “Adrien Agreste, he/him, proudly trans! Stay strong, and know you are loved.” He posted it in as many transgender and fashion tags as he could, and was happy to see screenshots of it spreading almost immediately before it was taken down from his own account and his access was cut off. He texted Marinette one last time to tell her he would be unable to contact her over the phone, then turned the phone off, left it on a nearby cafe table, and disappeared down an alley. Thirty seconds later, Chat Noir was vaulting between buildings, headed nowhere in particular.

▸ is your muse tall/short/average? Liv´s 5´6 are pretty average. Though she might appear taller when wearing her favourite boots (which she does most of the time anyway) as they add another 2 inches to her height. ▸ are they okay with their height? She is. It couldn´t be changed if she wasn´t and so far she hasn´t encountered any disadvantages about it, so it´s all good. ▸ what’s their hair like? Dark brown with natural highlights in summer. Mid-upperarm length, straight but falling in soft waves when damp that usually straighten once the hair is dried and combed through. Liv has it cut about once or twice a year to give it some sort of shape, usually layered and shorter around her face. Her hair is pretty easy to manage so she likes switching things up by wearing it down, in a braid, ponytail or easy up-does. It´s soft and smells of coconut shampoo. ▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair/with their grooming? She´ll wash it about every other day or more often when she´s sweaty or dirty from work or working out. Occasional conditioner but zero styling products. See above. ▸ does your muse care about their appearance? To an extent, yes. Her clothes must fit, be functional, clean and somewhat fashionable in her understanding (jeans, leather jacket, tight shirts, dresses on occasion), most probably formfitting because she has the body to flaunt it. Liv works out in a very basic manner like running, push ups and lunges (physical exhaustion helps her sleep) and she likes to stay fit (and look good) the same. However, she does it for herself, not to fit any societal bodily ideal. ▸ does your muse care about what others think about them? No. People will talk regardless of what one does or says or not, so she chooses not to let it affect her too much. She still reflects her actions sometimes and can take advice from others if she values their opinion but overall, this girl lives after her own values. Preferences ▸ indoors or outdoors? Outdoors. ▸ rain or sunshine? Sunshine. ▸ forest or beach? A tie but I´d guess beach wins by a nose. ▸ precious metals or gems? Metals. ▸ flowers or perfumes? Flowers. ▸ personality or appearance? Personality. ▸ being alone or being in a crowd? Being in a crowd. ▸ order or anarchy? Order. ▸ painful truths or white lies? Painful truths. ▸ science or magic? Science. ▸ peace or conflict? Peace. ▸ night or day? Day. ▸ dusk or dawn? Dusk. ▸ warmth or cold? Warmth. ▸ many acquaintances or a few close friends? Few close friends. ▸ reading or playing a game? Playing a game. Questionnaire ▸ what are some of your muse’s bad habits? Irresponsibility. Recklessness. Fear of commitment while craving closeness. Unwillingness to voice emotions and show weakness. Has difficulties opening up. She´ll make you think you know her because she´s so easy-going and fun but when it comes to the nitty gritty, she´ll shut down. ▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them? how has it affected them? In her main verse, her mother, who disappeared after the snap. Because of that constant being on the move throughout her childhood, she´s made and lost a lot of friends and figures of authority who provided a missing sense of stability. It all lets her refuse to let people become too important again.
▸ what are some fond memories your muse has? Despite being torn from places she´s just grown accustomed to and leaving friends behind, Liv has a lot of fond memories about her mother. Deanna made Liv the center of her world, bringing her daughter up with motherly warmth and teaching her everything she thought essential for becoming a strong, independent, confident woman. When asked, Liv would say their camping trips were her fondest memory of all, next to an elephant show they saw in Vegas when she was seven. ▸ is it easy for your muse to kill? No. There was never a need. But I can see her being driven to that point though it would never happen without absolute imperative. ▸ what’s it like when your muse breaks down? She´ll just up and leave and drive, drive, drive, until her mind clears up. Possibly stop to get stupid drunk in some dive bar and do something irresponsible. Or hide in a motel room with enough cheap booze to last a week or two and never come out. Drinking until she falls asleep, waking up, drinking more to dull the hangover. No food, no sunlight, no phonecalls. If she happens to be around someone she´s known for a long time and trusts, she might break down in front of them, but I´d consider that a rare event. She´s been through abuse and trauma that eats away at her confidence sometimes so it´s rare she reaches the point of telling anyone about it or her inside world in general. Liv would rather swallow her feelings down and avoid telling people how she truly feels inside. ▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life? Yes, when they´ve dealt with her irrational flight reflex and stuck around regardless, proving they can be trusted and won´t cage her in. ▸ what’s your muse like when they’re in love? That depends on if she´s still in denial about it and running away before she can acknowledge the circumstance or if she´s reached that point of acceptance and living it out. The first will make her just drive in the opposite direction to escape confrontation and getting too involved (and potentially hurt the other person enough not to go after her) and the second… man, if someone wins her heart she can be the most affectionate, loyal and playful companion one can wish for. Low key, sweet, fun and honest, inspiring and passionate. If a fight prompts her to run again, rest assured she´ll return with a lowered head, puppy god eyes and willing to make up for her knee jerk reaction with copious amounts of affection and sex in abundance.

A birthday fic for the lovely and amazing @desperatelyseekingcannibals. Happy birthday, my dear Max, hope you enjoy <3<3<3
Thanks to @slashyrogue for the title, and @tcbook and @hotmolasses for advice on writing smut scenes (and for generally being amazingly patient and wonderful).
Also on AO3.
Mortimer slid quietly along the hallway and snuck a peek into the waiting room, hoping that no one would notice him in such an undignified act. Not that he didn’t spend all day engaged in what many people would no doubt term undignified acts, but at least those took place behind closed doors. Fortunately, the inhabitants of the waiting room seemed to have their direction focussed on quite another subject – the same subject that had caused Mortimer to sneak around without his shoes on.
Seated on a chair at the far side of the room was quite the most unusual patient Mortimer had seen on these premises (which, not to be uncharitable, was saying something). For a start, he was a man, and this practice was strictly ladies only (other than the doctors, of course). Then there was the matter of his hair, which was the colour of pewter and worn in a thick braid that hung over one shoulder, in a manner which made him look nothing short of a barbarian. Mortimer rather suspected he could fight like one too – despite his unremarkable clothing (rough-looking greatcoat, in a shade of grey to match his hair, untailored trousers, beaten-up workman’s boots), the man had a bearing that suggested impressive strength. A former soldier, was Mortimer’s immediate impression.
None of which explained why this rather intimidating specimen had, about half an hour previously, strode into the practice and demanded an immediate appointment with Mortimer himself. Mortimer squinted at his face, trying to recollect if their paths might ever have crossed previously. It was, Mortimer had to admit, rather an interesting face to examine, all angles and sharp edges, yet with an elegance that put him in mind of an ancient sculpture. Or perhaps an ancient rock face. Interesting or not, though, he had no memories of this man, and no reason to grant him an audience.
It had been rather a routine week so far, though…
Intrigued despite himself, Mortimer slipped back to his office, replaced his shoes, and returned to the waiting room. He first excused himself to Mrs Bellamy and asked for her patience in enduring a short delay to her appointment, for which he received a coquettish pout and a giggle in response. He then crossed to the far wall and offered his hand to his mysterious visitor as he rose from his seat.
“I am Doctor Granville. I believe you insisted upon meeting me somewhat firmly, Mr…?”
“Draco will be fine, Doctor Granville. I don’t stand on ceremony.”
Mortimer couldn’t help allowing a brow to rise at this unusual behaviour but otherwise schooled any reaction behind a polite smile. “Mr Draco then,” he said, unable to make himself give up on an honorific completely, “I am terribly sorry to inform you that I have no appointments available today.”
“I will return tomorrow, in that case.”
“I’m afraid I have no appointments free at all for at least a fortnight.”
“You keep none for emergencies?”
“We are not providers of an emergency service, Mr Draco.”
“I shall return each day in hopes of a cancellation, in that case.”
Mortimer wanted desperately to ask if he had no decent employment during working hours but propriety would not allow the words to pass his lips. Instead, he observed the glint of determination in Draco’s eyes and concluded that he would not be brushed off so easily. Acquiescence seemed to be the surest route to ridding himself of this puzzling individual but it wasn’t in Mortimer’s nature to so easily bow down and give in to men’s desires.
“All right, Mr Draco, I shall make you a deal. I will see each of my patients according to their appointments and you will make no further attempts to interfere with my schedule. In return, if you are still here at the close of the day and have managed not to make any more of a nuisance of yourself than you already have, I will see you in my office. Is that acceptable?”
“More than.” Draco gave a little bow – intended as mockery, Mortimer had no doubt – and retook his seat, crossing his remarkably long legs in front of him with a flourish.
“Well then,” Mortimer said, a little rattled by Draco’s behaviour. He stood awkwardly for a moment, and then turned and fled back to his office, hoping against hope that Mr Draco would get bored of his strange little game and be gone by the time he had finished with his next appointment.
The gods were not smiling upon him today though, not entirely to Mortimer’s surprise. He checked throughout the rest of the day, accompanying a number of his patients back to the waiting room rather than leaving them at his door as usual. And each time he was greeted by a softly-smirking Draco who, on one occasion, actually had the gall to wink at him across the room. At least, Mortimer thought it was a wink, it might have been a spasm.
By the time he bid goodbye to his final scheduled patient of the day, Mortimer was resigned to having to make good on his agreement and trod back to the now-empty waiting room where Draco greeted him with a smile that showed the sharp points of his teeth. Mortimer wondered for a moment just what he had let himself in for, but pulled himself together and gestured at Draco to follow him through to his office.
As they passed through the corridor, Mortimer began to try to discover what this strange man’s business was in coming here. “I must enquire whether you are aware of the nature of our practice here?” he asked.
Draco gave no answer to this, though Mortimer supposed the minute smirk that flashed across his face was answer enough. Still, he forged ahead, wishing for there to be no misunderstanding. “In this clinic we are solely devoted to the treatment of women’s issues.” Mortimer uttered the phrase in a hushed tone for the sake of propriety, knowing even as he did so that it was a ridiculous affectation given that everyone still present in the building was well aware of exactly what kind of treatment he and Doctor Dalrymple provided. Apparently Draco agreed, his smirk fair turning into a leer that made Mortimer’s stomach flip in a most peculiar fashion.
They had reached his door by this point, and Mortimer paused outside it. “Sir,” he stated, riled and concerned by Draco’s reaction, “if you are here to cause trouble or to gather salacious gossip, I will have you removed from the premises without delay.”
Draco help up his hands in a placating gesture. “Calm yourself, Doctor, I mean no offence nor intend anything salacious.” Mortimer had his doubts about that from the way Draco’s accent – something European, thick and honeyed – rolled around the word, but decided it would be easier to hear him out than to call in the police. He had no illusions that he could remove this brute under his own power without serious consequences to his state of being. Instead he opened his office door and ushered Draco inside, gesturing to the chairs opposite his desk for Draco to take one.
Once they were both settled, Mortimer locked his gaze with Draco’s and told him, “I would be most obliged, Mr Draco, if you could state what your intentions actually are in attending this specific practice.”
“Don’t remember me, do you, Doctor Granville?”
Oh, this man was quite infuriating! “Can you not answer a question straight, sir?” Mortimer asked, forgetting his manners in his irritation. “No, I do not recall having seen you in all of my existence.”
“Suppose you see a lot of faces coming and going in your line of work. I’ll try not to be hurt that you’ve forgotten.” Really, the smug expression on Mr Draco’s face was too much, and Mortimer had to grit his teeth in order not to bear them at the impudent way he spoke. Instead, he kept himself together and extrapolated the meaning of Draco’s implications.
“I treated you at some point in the past, is that it?”
“Indeed, Doctor Granville, you saw me in the hospital a couple of years ago. Kept going on about little animals crawling around my body.”
Mortimer squeezed the bridge of his nose between his fingers, steeling himself for the inevitable barrage of mockery.
“You’re a smart one, Doctor, what you said made a lot of sense for anybody willing to listen.” Mortimer’s head snapped up in surprise. “Put me back together almost as good as new, as well. I thought to myself then, if ever my health was in danger, I wouldn’t settle for anyone else’s treatment.”
Mortimer had absolutely no idea what to say to that, having expected derision and instead received more respect and admiration from this man than any other person about his dedication to modern medical practices. He gaped at Draco, he couldn’t help himself, and knew that colour was climbing into his cheeks. Needing to regain control, he chose to ignore the compliment entirely and instead proceed as he might with any normal patient.
“All right, Mr Draco, given that you have gone to such trouble to seek me out, I assume that you are suffering from some difficulty with your health. If you would describe your symptoms, I will determine whether or not you require further examination.”
“As you wish, Doctor. It is… a little embarrassing, I must warn you.”
Mortimer doubted that somehow, but delivered his standard response to anxious patients regardless. “Please, Mr Draco, I can assure you there is nothing you can say that would shock me. Do go on.”
“Well, you see, lately I have been having trouble finishing.”
“Finishing?”
“Sexually, Doctor Granville. I have no trouble rising to the occasion, as it were, but no matter how I try – and I have tried extremely hard, Doctor – I seem unable to bring myself to a satisfying conclusion.”
“I see. That s-sounds extremely upsetting. I am not- not surprised you sought a medical opinion,” Mortimer stuttered out. Perhaps he should have been expecting it – why else would a man insist on being seen in this clinic – but instead he was entirely taken aback. Did this mean… Was Mr Draco asking…
“Your medical opinion, specifically,” Draco said, interrupting Mortimer’s train of thought before it derailed entirely. “Word has spread about the services you offer in this clinic of yours, Doctor Granville. I thought perhaps your talents might stretch to patients of the masculine persuasion.”
Oh. He certainly was asking, then.
“How, um, long have these symptoms been affecting you?” Mortimer asked, deliberately stalling.
“Oh, for quite some time,” Draco responded, entirely unhelpfully.
“Mmm-hmm. And I take it the results are equally unsatisfactory whether you are with a partner or,” Mortimer coughed delicately, “taking matters into your own hand?”
“Would that I had the opportunity to compare, Doctor.”
Mortimer barely kept from rolling his eyes. Clearly questioning this man was going to be of little help. A hands-on approach appeared to be the best strategy – it was Mortimer’s speciality, after all.
“Well then, Mr Draco, since you appear determined to obfuscate, I believe it will be best if we get on with the physical examination.”
“Do with me as you see fit,” Draco said, and really, the man seemed able to make anything sound suggestive, it was quite outrageous. No wonder Mortimer had to scramble to remember how to speak for a moment.
“Ah… yes… well then,” he flailed, trying to pull himself together under Draco’s amused gaze. “If you would just move over to the examination table, we can begin.”
Draco obeyed, thankfully with no more than a cordial nod in Draco’s direction, though the way he moved as he crossed the room was, if anything, more suggestive than his words. He put Mortimer in mind of a big cat; a lion perhaps, all lazy grace and coiled power, shoulders rolling and hips swaying in one fluid curve.
Mortimer couldn’t help but gaze at his progress, before wrapping his professionalism round himself like armour. Never yet had he allowed a pretty face or a flirtatious manner to distract him, and this unsubtle show would not be the first to break him.
“If you would be so good as to remove your clothing below the waist, Mr Draco. I’m afraid I will have to proceed without the usual screen in place, in order for me to observe your responses. I hope that won’t be a problem.”
“No problem at all, Doctor.” And indeed, Draco proceeded to remove boots, britches and underclothes in short order, without a hint of the embarrassment to which he earlier referred. Following which, quite to Mortimer’s shock, he shucked off his shirt and vest as well, easing himself onto the table – really more of a lounge chair, with its reclining position and button back – just as naked as the day he was born.
“Don’t want to get stains on anything,” he remarked, his expression aiming at innocence and landing on devilry instead.
Confronted with the long, bronzed line of Draco’s naked form, Mortimer found he could not look away, hoping that his patient assumed he was taking stock of his physical condition for purely medical purposes.
The twinkle in Draco’s eyes suggested he believed that about as much as Mortimer himself. Well, that and the fact that his prodigious length, already half-hard, twitched expectantly under Mortimer’s gaze.
“I, ah, see you were telling the truth regarding your ability to become aroused,” Mortimer said, watching as Draco’s member continued to thicken with something bordering on fascination.
“Dishonesty would have done me little good.”
“Quite.” Mortimer took a deep breath and stretched his hands, considering how best to start. “If I might begin by testing your sensitivity, Mr Draco.”
“You know best, Doctor.”
Mortimer wasn’t quite sure he did, in this situation, but hummed in agreement anyway, and then positioned himself at the side of the table, realising that his normal position at its foot wouldn’t do. Draco’s eyes followed him closely as he did so, and Mortimer felt pinned beneath them, heat rising to his face in a most unprofessional manner. As if to show that he would not be intimidated, he reached out with one finger and gently stroked the underside of Draco’s cock, tracing the ridge that ran the length of it. Draco hissed in response, and his member stiffened fully.
Mortimer couldn’t help his triumphant smile. “How did that feel, Mr Draco?”
“Very pleasant, Doctor Granville.”
Oh, so that was the game. Well then.
“Excellent. Now please, lie as still as you can.” With which, Mortimer took a firm grasp of Draco’s shaft and gave it a few long, dry strokes, just short of too rough. This time, Draco’s response wasn’t a hiss, but a grunt of surprise that turned into a moan as Mortimer grazed the pad of his thumb against his slit, checking for pre-ejaculate. “Hmm, rather dry, is that normal for you?”
Draco shot him a wry look but answered easily enough: “Recently, yes.”
“Ah well, age comes to us all,” Mortimer said, gently thumbing at the rim of Draco’s foreskin.
“I do not – ah – do not think that is the issue.” Draco shifted on the bed a little, perhaps trying to keep his hips from rising.
“No?” Mortimer raised an eyebrow at Draco’s statement. “Well, nevertheless, I believe some lubrication will assist in our examination, if you will excuse me a moment.” He released Draco’s member – noting with amusement the almost imperceptible pout the man gave in response – and went to retrieve one of the small pots of oil he kept discreetly stored near the bed (after all, ladies often also benefited from a little help to ease the way). His patient appeared entirely unperturbed by its appearance, and Mortimer wondered if perhaps his reluctance to discuss partners was less down to their scarcity than to the type of person Draco took to his bed.
The thought caused a little jolt to run down Mortimer’s spine – and not an entirely unpleasant one, either.
He unscrewed the pot and dipped his fingers in, coating his hand liberally as Draco’s eyes tracked his every movement, hard to the point where the head of his dick was turning purple where it emerged from his foreskin. Mortimer thought that it looked almost painful and took mercy on his patient – he was sworn to do no harm, after all – returning his hand to its former position and letting it glide down to the base and back again. Draco’s groan was louder this time, and he grinned wolfishly at Mortimer.
“A great improvement, Doctor. You really do have a gift.”
If only he knew the truth of that statement, Mortimer thought, but kept it to himself and instead returned Draco’s grin with a polite smile of his own. “All in a day’s work, Mr Draco. Now,” he continued, beginning to stroke in earnest, “I understand from what you’ve told me that getting to this point of arousal is not generally problematic for you?”
Draco’s head tipped back against the headrest, exposing the long line of his throat, already beginning to gleam with sweat. “Not generally, no,” he agreed, his last word turning into a moan as Mortimer twisted his hand a little on his upstroke.
“Mmm, and could you describe to me at what point your difficulties begin?” Mortimer’s voice was a little roughened, almost husky, as he questioned Draco, as though it was he becoming aroused by this activity. He cleared his throat, annoyed at himself, and waited for Draco to gather himself enough to respond.
“Usually… usually I seem to – ahh – reach a kind of… kind of plateau,” Draco panted out, words trapped between gasps and moans. “Can’t seem to… to tip over… oh, that’s good, Doc, don’t – ah, don’t stop, ohhh…”
Draco’s hips were bucking in earnest now, and Mortimer decided to take control by laying his unoccupied arm flat against his patient’s torso, pinning him to the bed. This, apparently, excited Draco even more, his moaning becoming louder and more shameless as Mortimer held him down with one hand and continued to stroke and tug with the other.
This display pulled down the last of Mortimer’s defences – there was no point in denying he was as aroused as the man lying under him, his own member straining within his trousers. He couldn’t reach down to take any of the pressure off, and Mortimer realised he was rubbing himself against the frame of the table, matching the rhythm of his strokes up and down Draco’s cock. He felt electrified with desire, entirely blindsided by his effect on this gloriously beautiful man.
He ought to have been watching Draco’s cock, checking for any physical oddities, any abnormal reactions, but any pretences that this was a genuine examination were long abandoned. Instead, Mortimer found he couldn’t drag his eyes from Draco’s face as it contorted with pleasure, mouth slack, breath short, eyes hooded and dark. Through the haze of bliss, Draco seemed to realise Mortimer’s focus had shifted and tilted his head so their eyes connected.
Mortimer couldn’t contain the little exclamation – oh – that escaped as Draco looked deep inside him, and it was enough to bring both he and Draco to climax, sweating and writhing and shouting for the gods, Draco’s pleasure flowing warm and thick across Mortimer’s wrist and down his arm.
Mortimer stroked him through his orgasm, until Draco shuddered with oversensitivity and he released his grip. He found he couldn’t move away though, or form the kind of detached, doctorly pronouncement his patient was no doubt expecting, not with the evidence of his lapse of professionalism spreading warm and wet inside his trousers. Instead, his hands hovered over Draco’s flushed thighs, wanting to touch, wanting to crawl up onto the table and continue to wring those noises from Draco. Wanting Draco to wring them from him in return.
Of course, he did nothing of the sort. It would have been entirely inappropriate.
Though not, perhaps, as inappropriate as what Draco himself said, once he had his breath back.
“So it is true what they say, once you’ve known the touch of divinity nothing will ever compare.” Draco sought out Mortimer’s eyes, which were already widening in shock, and added, My Lady Aphrodite.”
Well, fuck.
Mortimer briefly considered trying to locate a weapon and battering Draco about the head. But his fighting skills were rusty after several decades quietly hiding amongst humanity and Draco looked alert and formidable despite his post-orgasmic lassitude. Besides, he had been caught fair and square, and he probably should find out how and for what reason before attempting escape.
Mortimer – otherwise known as Aphrodite, goddess of love, pleasure and procreation, former denizen of Mount Olympus, currently on self-approved sabbatical from his divine duties – sighed. “I really thought this disguise was infallible.”
Draco grinned. “It almost was. Zeus knew your general location but you did an admirable job of masking your exact whereabouts. I must commend you.”
“Oh fuck your commendation, how did you find me?”
Draco smirked. Mortimer wanted to punch him. “If only you’d been able to resist the temptation, little goddess. You were safe and sound in your hospitals, trying to convince all those poor, naïve humans about the importance of hygiene. But it was too good, wasn’t it? The prospect of bringing pleasure to so many again. Just couldn’t pass it up, to feel the thrill of it, help those poor women feel good. Just a little touch of your power to ease the way, couldn’t hurt, could it?”
Mortimer sighed. How stupid of him, how arrogant to think he could get away with it unnoticed. Honestly though, how was he, the goddess of love, sex incarnate, supposed to turn down the opportunity to provide orgasms on a regular basis? When Dalrymple had reeled off his nonsense about hysteria during their initial interview, Mortimer had nearly fallen out of his chair at the realisation of what was being offered.
“So the little story about seeing me at the hospital? Your supposed difficulty in climaxing? What was the point of that?”
“I needed you to trust me enough to put your hands on me, Doctor.” Draco raked his eyes along Mortimer’s body, the damp patch in his trousers, shameless now that he had revealed himself. “Only way to be sure you were the one I was sent to find.”
“A neat trick. Did Zeus lend you some magic?”
“Daresay he would have, but it was unnecessary. Your kind always feel different, if only a man cares to pay attention.”
“And you do pay very close attention, don’t you? To my backside in particular, I must note.” Two could play at the shameless game.
“It’s a very fine backside, my Lady, even by divine standards.”
Mortimer rolled his eyes, but let himself grin with it. He had to admit, he’d missed sparring like this – the bumbling doctor routine had been a useful one, but he had been forced to play frightfully earnest at times. Some good, old fashioned flirting was quite a relief after being so buttoned up. In fact, Mortimer decided to take advantage of his regained freedom by climbing up onto the table and settling himself atop Draco’s extremely well-muscled thighs while he continued his interrogation.
Draco, happily, seemed completely unfazed by this, and simply placed his large hands against Mortimer’s hips for support.
“So then, soldier – you are a soldier, yes?”
Draco inclined his head in confirmation.
“Thought so, you seem like a man who would be comfortable with killing. So, what does my father want so urgently of me that he would force one of his toy soldiers out of heaven to hunt me down?”
To his credit, Draco didn’t so much as flinch at the insult. “No force was required, Lady, I volunteered.”
“Bored of eternal quaffing and carousing, were we?”
“A break is nice, little god, but eventually a man grows weary of existence without purpose, wouldn’t you agree?”
“You are quite fascinating, aren’t you Mr Draco? And very good at evading my questions. Once again: why does my father request my presence?”
Draco’s smile turned wry. “A war is coming, my Lady. Olympus is threatened and Zeus demands that all his children do their duty.”
“And I suppose if I don’t come quietly he’ll start chucking lightning bolts into Charing Cross?” Mortimer poked Draco, immediately regretting it – the man’s chest might as well have been a breastplate. “All I wanted was a few hundred years of me time, was that really so much to ask? I’m not even any use in battle – I’m a lover, not a fighter.” He laid his hand flat against Draco’s chest, considering. “And you, Captain? How will they reward you for completing your mission?”
“I will be returned to Elysium, to eternal peace and celebration.”
“How ghastly. I have a better idea,” Mortimer said, leaning in to press a soft kiss to Draco’s lips, chasing it with a flick of his tongue. “There, how do you feel?”
“Unsatisfied.”
“Odd. Most people say ‘tingly.’ Let’s try that again.”
This time the kiss was deep, filthy, and several minutes long. By the time it finished, Mortimer had a tight grip on Draco’s braid, Draco an equally strong hold of Mortimer’s much-admired backside, and both were flushed and panting for breath.
Mortimer leaned back a little, in order to look at Draco property. “So?”
“I am not certain tingly quite covers it.”
Mortimer grinned in triumph. “Excellent. Captain Draco, you are now bound to me, unable to leave my side, devoted to me above all others.”
Draco looked entirely unfazed.
“Which means you will attend me in battle, as my captain and consort.”
Draco continued to fail to react.
“I have just stolen you from Zeus himself for my own pleasure! He is not going to be pleased with either of us. Surely you have something to say about that?”
Draco shrugged lightly, and Mortimer once again considered battering him with something heavy. Fortunately, his new paramour finally decided to break his silence. “This means I will spend my foreseeable future fighting when required and fucking when desired?”
“Well… basically, yes.”
“Then I believe Zeus can go fuck himself,” Draco drawled, and dragged Mortimer into another devouring kiss.
Mortimer smiled into it. This one was going to keep him entertained for aeons.

Why I Believe in the Power of a Good Curly Haircut
http://fashion-trendin.com/why-i-believe-in-the-power-of-a-good-curly-haircut/
Why I Believe in the Power of a Good Curly Haircut
Solange Franklin is a New York-based fashion editor and freelance stylist who knows the power of a good curly cut. “Once you have that, 90 percent of the hard work is done.” Below is everything you want to know about her hair, from routine to dream hairstyle (it involves flowers). And if you’ve caught the hair bug, not to be confused with a hairball, you can read about Sarah’s hair, Amelia’s hair, Erica’s hair, Nell’s hair, Shiona’s hair, Simone’s hair, Arabelle’s hair and Megan’s hair after that.
How often do you wash your hair and when?
Ideally once a week. Realistically, whenever I feel like it or my coils are on the verge of lockage.
What’s your hair approach in the shower? What products do you use?
I’d love to be loyal to specific brands but I’m lazily cycling through different options to see what’s really working for me. Right now:
1. Soak hair 2. Apply maybe ¼ bottle of Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner 3. Depending on motivation level, separate hair into quarters or eighths 4. Comb each section, starting from the ends, with Ouidad double-tooth comb 5. Massage scalp 6. Rinse and re-apply dollop of conditioner as leave-in product
Turn on your JavaScript to view content
What’s your daily routine and how long does it take? Do you do something different for special occasions?
I let the steam from the shower penetrate my hair because it loosens the curl enough that I can reshape and fluff my hair once I’m getting dressed. Maybe three times a week, I’ll put a dollop of conditioner in as a leave-in moisturizer for the ends.
A special occasion is the best motivation for the full comb-through routine, but otherwise I follow the daily: allow the hair to feel dew-covered, pull it to stretch and shape, then dash out the door.
How often do you get it cut?
Once a season.
Tell me about a standout hair-related memory.
I think I was eight when my mom told me I was going in for a trim and secretly told the hairdresser to chop it all off instead. She did the same thing to my older sister; I was naïve to think the household shaming would’ve preempted her from doing it again. She had short hair at the time and wanted us to be fuss-free, too. I’m still bitterly amused by her boldness.
Have you gone through a bunch of hair phases or had the same hair your whole life?
There was the unfortunate pageboy-ish chop. Following that, I vowed never to let anyone cut my hair again, which I think I stuck to until ninth grade. As an athlete, it was hard for me to maintain a cute hairstyle that I liked, so I pretty much always had a ponytail. I did love box braids with extensions. I had a perm, probably from ages 10 to 16, and I’m still in disbelief that I tried to wear a different hairstyle every day in middle school. I’d press it with a hot comb and sometimes set it with rollers but I never developed a talent for hair styling.
Then, at 16, a hairdresser who claimed to be Aaliyah’s stylist told me I didn’t need a perm. He said it would grow faster and I should never let someone give me a middle part. I was shook. And I’ve been natural since then. I kept pressing it until 2011, I think, when a visit to the salon left me with heat damage and my curl pattern was bizarre for so long I promised to never to straighten it again. Since then, I’ve been committed to curly hair.
When do you hate your hair?
Never. That’s not to say in the past I wasn’t utterly confused by it, or didn’t wish for a seemingly simpler answer to the question, “How do I get my best hair?” Once I embraced my hair and went through some trial and error, though, I just accepted that I didn’t need perfectly uniform curls or other ideas we’re sold to dislike ourselves. I do hate that there aren’t more products to accommodate my hair. (I’m down to be an angel investor for an Afro helmet company!)
When do you love it?
Every day. Thanks, Mom and Dad.
What’s the worst hair-related decision you’ve ever made?
For a swim team initiation in high school, the seniors raided the freshmen’s beauty cabinets to humiliate us with tacky glam and costumes. When they showed up at my house, I was sleeping in my older sister’s room instead of my own, so they put her hair product in my hair.
Her hair product happened to be dreadlock cream — my hair started to lock after a few hours. Long story short: I ended up having to cut my hair off again (and this time my mom wasn’t whispering in anyone’s ear). The unkind rumor mill at school churned out the false story that my hair had “fallen out” because of a chemical reaction between a perm and chlorine. It was very traumatic at the time.
Have you ever cut your hair yourself?
I know folks who do it to save money and to feel that they can control something in their lives, but I’ve just never had the confidence. I think it’s a good goal for me to learn how to do a basic trim, though. I get too busy to go to the salon and I don’t prioritize timely cuts!
Have you ever stopped a stranger with great hair and asked them what they did to it?
I was doing a pull at Kiki de Montparnasse in my early assisting day, and this drop-dead gorgeous girl had the most perfect, modern Afro. I shyly but firmly asked her for advice and she said, “You know what. Don’t judge, but this Italian man at Ion Studio really knows what he’s doing.” She wrote his name down on the back of a receipt and I immediately booked an appointment. I couldn’t afford the haircut but I happened to know one of the salon owner’s wives, a casting director, and she generously offered a discount. It was a turning point in my hair story because I realized the power of having a good curly cut. Once you have that, 90 percent of the hard work is done.
What does your hairdresser tell you to do that you routinely ignore?
“Rinse with cold water.” I refuse because I hate being cold.
What misconceptions do people have about your hair?
That it’s difficult to maintain. It annoys me when white people say it, but it breaks my heart when women of color say it. Everyone’s hair is different, but the assumption that it requires painstaking maintenance can be so tied up in internalized hatred that I always take the time to tell black women that a) it gets easier and b) I spent way more time agonizing over my hair to make it straight, or achieve so-called perfect curls. It’s one thing to have trepidation about change, but I hope the messaging we receive about our supposed difficult tresses does not motivate that fear.
Who has your favorite hair in the world and what’s your personal dream hair?
Minnie Riperton with baby’s breath is on my perennial mood board.

Relationships
Mother/Mother Figure: Pepper Potts
Relationships:
This woman is my mother… I will fight those who say otherwise. She raised my sister and I, cared for us as her daughters even though Tony adopted us without telling her first. She is the one to deal with our… ahem… lady problems and gives us regular boy advice because lord knows we can’t go to Natasha. And don’t tell dad she gives us boy advice.
Father/Father Figure: Tony Stark, Steve Rogers
Relationships:
Tony Stark legally adopted my sister and I as a publicity stunt just before he came out as Iron Man. Don’t look surprised even I know he was jerk back then. Have no fear, however, he did actually take up the roll as father. He is overprotective and yet, somehow is still the fun dad. He hates that we are a part of The Avengers (but so does everyone does), hates that we fight, hates that we er get hurt and above all hates any boy that comes near us. He tries say he doesn’t spoil us but he does and he will fix any problem we have. Struggling with class? Tutors (Not that Dum learned anything). Bully? They live Sokovia now. Want to learn anything? Expert teachers. Boys? Stay away from Iron Dads babies.
Steve Rogers is the dad that picks up Tony’s slack. He tries to teach us to do things the old fashioned way: without money and lots of hard work (Dum does not appreciate). He is the dad who deals with the emotions and deals with the fact that we by his side ny facing it head on and sparing with us to hone our skill. He loves to put us in sixties dresses and dance around with us when we’re not dealing with HYDRA, he is a sixties man.
Brothers/Brother Figures:N/A
Relationships: N/A
Sisters/Sister Figures: Dum, Wanda Maximoff
Relationships:
Dum is the most idiotic metahuman to ever exist. Whoever decided she should be trusted with the gift of life was an idiot. Whoever decided she should have been enhanced with extra abilities is brain dead. She doesn’t even know what she’s doing… at all… ever, she never listens, and takes nothing seriously. How she isn’t dead or hasn’t gotten others killed is a mystery. Just know if you say this to her the Avengers are coming for you and they will find that you have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Other than that we our sisters and we make eachother better, after all we were created to.
It is a bit odd that i got close to Wanda but I attribute to the fact that I was there for (along with Vision) when her brother died and the fact she knew about the HYDRA thing and related to me. When I needed someone when I found out about the HYDRA thing and even when I took y anger out on her she was there for me.
Aunts/Aunt Figures: Natasha Romanov
Relationships:
Natasha Romanov is simultaneously my crazy aunt and insane instructor. She is the one I go to deal with my anger. She is the one I go to for girls nights (usually involves hunting down the Avengers with Nerf guns). She is the one who taught me self defense and hand to hand combat (even if Fury told her too). She is strict and she drives a slave ship but its all for my benefit in the end. Plus, I got a damn cool aunt out of it too.
Uncle/Uncle Figures: Bucky Barnes, Clint Barton, Thor Odinson, Loki Laufeyson, Bruce Banner, Nick Fury
Relationships:
Bucky Barnes took up the role as honorary uncle solely due to the fact that Steve treated us as his children. He then took up the role of protector when he found about how we were his plan B. He feels guilty about everything that’s happening and I make it my life mission to let this man know that I am so incredibly happy that I was created because of him even with all the shit that comes with it.
Clint Barton took up his role because Natasha is his best friend and he wanted to meet her students, Dum and I. He then proceeded to freak out upon realizing it was the tiny children he met at Tony’s party. He is the one who takes us away from the Avenging life and stick us in a normal life with normal kids on his family ranch. He also taught me to aim my abilities after I begged him.
Thor is the funny uncle (even if he doesn’t mean to be). He let us braid his hair… this man is the biggest of teddy bears. We have a deal I teach him about us Midgardians and he teaches me about Asgard (I even get to visit when Tony and Steve aren’t looking and sometimes I drag Dum along). He also teaches about my lightning abilities.
You wouldn’t think that we would be close to Loki but one accidental visit to his cell and we were hooked to cynicall god. I think he never told anyone about our secret meetings because we were the only ones who would listen to him (he won’t admit it). He likes to give us cryptic advice when we need help to annoy us (“work for your information little Midgardians”).
Bruce Banner is my cuddly uncle who always comforts me no matter what. He is incredibly gentle and doesn’t fail to make me smile when I’m down. I was so sad when he left. He taught me to have self control over my abilities.
Nick Fury is slave driver. He gave us some serious tough love and hard long hours of training. He did it for our protection though so I can't really hold a grudge (Yes, I can)

Current Guardian: Steve Rogers
Relationship:
He took me with him after Civil War. As much as I miss everyone I won’t compromise my beliefs or let them hurt Bucky.
Current Significant Other: Peter Parker
Relationship:
I met Pete when we were paired up for a project at school. While. We working we just sorted of clicked. He asked me to Homecoming and how could I turn that dork’s adorable smile. It wasn’t long after that we became an official couple (Dum: *Squeals*). He found out I was an Avenger and Tony Stark’s daughter (and Tony found out about Peter) just before Civil War when Iron Dad was showing us around he introduced me as his daughter and fellow Avenger (This is my daughter, don’t even think about hitting on her she’s also Pandora and will set you on fire). He kind of freaked out but the cutie refused to fight me when Civil War happened. I love this adorkable boy and he will never fail to make me smile.
