Planet Her Review | You New Here? Sunday #1
Song by song review of Doja Cat's newest album Planet Her.
Tumblr media
woman: 5/5 perfect afro-pop. her best opening song i will take no complaints. the lyrics are also amazing.
naked: 5/5 this song is so addicting. love the lyrics, especially in the second verse. showcases her versatility in rap and singing.
payday (ft. young thug): 4/5 really good song. is hype and has a simple message. typical flex song of celebrating how you to where you are at. the young thug feature was alright.
get into it (yuh): 4/5 from the song title you can tell this song is going to be stupid. does what it needs to do. love the beat and the title. the nicki and ari shoutout was cute. a grower.
need to know: 5/5 definitely grew on me the more i listened to it. the second and third verses are top tier. has the potential to be one of her best songs. love the music video.
i don't do drugs (ft. ariana grande): 3/5 not one of my favorites but it's still good. the ari feature was top tier. the chorus is the best part. the fact that they shout each other out in different songs gives me life.
love to dream: 4/5 a really good song. love her vocals on it so much. just a really nice song to listen to.
you right: 5/5 why is this song so good. the overall atmosphere of the song is so ethereal and easy to listen to. the weekends' feature was everything but i wish it was longer. the extended version is better.
been like this: 3.5/5 i like it a little more now than during the first listen. sounds like it came from amala. adds to the album. the lyrics are good.
options (ft. JID): 4/5 did not vibe with it too much during the first listen but now it's stuck in my head. JID added so much to the song. shows how features should be done. kind of moody and i love it.
ain't shit: 5/5 fight me on this but it's the best song on the album. just because it's popular on tiktok does not mean it is bad. the scream in the second verse is therapeutic.
imagine: 5/5 you may question my taste after this but it is top 5 off of the album. i wish we got to see what nicki's verse would be like but whatever. nice hype song. i understand why people would be turned off by the autotune but i like it.
alone: 4/5 has one of her best verses and i will stand by that. super moody and i love it. builds on songs that came from amala. doja at her best.
kiss me more: 5/5 the first single for a reason. such a happy, bright song to end with. i love this so much. SZA was such a good feature even though i can't understand what she's saying. an amazing song and music video.
overall: 4/5 a definite step up from hot pink. some songs took a while to get into (yuh) but they eventually grew on me. i can't wait to see doja improve even more.

Doja Cat Denies Skin Lightening Allegations: “How About I’m Half White”
YouTube just wanted to give Doja Cat a shoutout, but it ended up entangling the singer-rapper into a controversy about her skin tone. On Tuesday (March 10), the video streaming network shared its “#WCE” playlist of 81 tracks from a number of female artists. “Get introduced to these women who are rising in the ranks of hip hop. Feat. Doja Cat,” YouTube wrote. As the cover image, YouTube used a photo of Doja Cat wearing a pink headset and a matching bra. There wasn’t anything shocking about the picture, but the public had quite a bit to say about her skin color.
Thousands of comments poured in accusing Doja of bleaching her skin or criticizing YouTube for making the Hot Pink artist lighter. She was made aware of the backlash and took to her Instagram Story to set the record straight and deny allegations that she was somehow altering her image. “Hey, so if you’re stupid as f*ck you probably left a comment under this picture talking about this,” she said in a video as she showed some remarks from the public.
“Hey, how about I’m half white, not entirely black,” she continued. “My skin gets very light when I don’t tan. I was staying indoors a lot before that shoot. New f*ckin’ subject! Dumbasses.” Check out Doja Cat explain herself below.
