Hello, Tumblr, welcome to my little artist hole in the ground, where I commit my Dark Work
Tumblr media
the work isn't THAT dark, really, it just sounds cooler when i call it my dark work, but anyway
Hi!
You can call me Ishmael (or Klepto, because it grew on me), and this is my big debut post on this site (and the interweb in general, really) as long as you ignore all those other posts on the blog already shhhhhh
I'm going to be using this blog for... A lot of things, really, but probably most notably posting art I've done! This would mostly be original setting works, though I'm not ruling out the possibility of posting the occasional fanwork, in the event I do one
Also, I might develop a game about one of these! That's not going to be very soon, but I'd like it to happen eventually, and I'll probably link to them if/when they happen
Settings I'll post art about include:
A science-fiction setting featuring a Republic of (space) Pirates, space alien cat people, humanity being one of the older, more established civilizations in the area, at least one megacorporation, and a bunch of assorted Weird Space Junk [i don't have a real name for this one oops]
A monster collector setting where people escape to a digital world to ride out the post apocalypse, but the digital animals have gotten a little, ah, hostile, which is weird because they weren't programmed to be so that shouldn't be possible [THE SPIRIT ELECTRIC]
A spooky eldritch setting in an alternate Earth where a good chunk of the America-analogue's power grid used to be plugged into a giant divine-ish tumor! It's, uh, not anymore, though! Accidents happen, and some have heavier consequences than others [Phase Theory]
A fantasy setting with like elves and giants and dragons and stuff, which isn't the best selling point, but maybe the fact that magic existing has enabled some suspiciously post-industrial technology is a better one? Also the dragons are from space kinda [Tomes]
various offshoot settings that share names with, but are somewhat different from, the main settings, and maybe blur the lines between setting A and setting B a little
yes the characters standing behind my fursoña there are each supposed to be representatives of one of those settings why do you ask
other things i forgot
AND MANY MORE
anyhow, NOT ONLY will following this blog get you art sometimes, BUT ALSO you'll get me rambling aimlessly about assorted nonsense for paragraphs on end! Stunning! Spectacular! Amazing! Some other word that invokes superlative qualities!!
Art will be tagged #my art, if something gets especially horror-y it'll get tagged with #horror and anything relevant, I'll try tagging the settings with the setting names, if i talk a lot i'm going to be tagging that with #rambling, uhhh
please don't be mean to me, i'm not here for shit and i WILL use all the tools at my disposal to obliterate you (by which i mean i'll probably just block you if i think i need to, which is functionally obliteration from my end, or maybe sending you to the shadow realm? idk)
also it should go without saying, but if you're in one of those genres of terrible person that wants me or my loved ones dead? Please Leave! On your way out, consider Not Doing That, or Dying in a Hole Maybe! Don't really care which, up to you honestly

Read this Post before interacting!
Well, here's a few things about me for those who stumble upon this blog:
If you're a minor, or someone who doesn't take kindly to a bi male with his own passions in life, please don't interact. We live in a time where I feel everyone has the right to pursue what they want, so long as they don't hurt themselves or other people. If you're underaged, you shouldn't be on this part of the interwebs and should go back from whence you came.
If you follow me and have no posts on your blog, I will block on sight. One less bot on this site makes Tumblr a better place. If you do have a blog, just make like an intro post, just so you don't get caught in the fire.
I won't pay for any service or for help someone may pitch to me. Pay to play, pay for help, whatever it be. I have my own life to worry about. If you got yourself into a situation, you can oft get yourself out of it.
Now with the negative mumbo-jumbo out of the way...
I'm always willing to talk whenever I'm on! If you'd like to discuss something, feel free to shoot a DM! I love hearing about other people and their endeavors.
I like to talk about models (like the miniatures, not like super models lol), food and cooking, and gaming! Alongside the kinkier aspects of BDSM and pony play. I'll be happy to talk to people who share similar interests, seeing I want to get into it but don't really know where to start.
With all of this in mind, welcome to my blog! Stay as long as you please, and have a wonderful day!

About OP:
I, OP, am a legal adult. I go by (he/him) and (she/her) pronouns.
Some of my circumstances that could influence my opinions are that I live in the USA, I'm an ex-Christian secular humanist, I'm AFAB, I'm not a trained psychologist, I'm likely autistic (I fit a lot of symptoms), I'm a-spec, I'm altersex, and I'm a singlet. I also could've been described as pretty proship back when I was fresh to the 2010's interwebs on Wattpad, Deviantart, and YouTube.
This isn't my main-- I personally can't imagine having a legit discourse blog for a main /lh-- but I'm not linking my main from this blog. If you find my main from here, no you didn't.
About this blog:
I'd prefer if the people interacting with this blog are over the age of 15.
I dislike echo-chambers and I'm opinionated, which is why I engage in discourse. To me, it's a form of field research done through the sharing of opinions.
The ask box is open, and anon is enabled. I will happily have a civil discussion-- one that's free of ad hominem remarks and one that all parties involved are aware that they could be disagreed with-- from all sides of discourse. Anon-hate will either be deleted or, if I feel like it, countered back.
This blog's activity is according to me and nobody but me. So this'll blog will inevitably drop in activity my mental state is blegh, if I don't have any spoons to spare (Spoon Theory), or if I'm just busy.
Use the block button if my blog upsets you and you don't want to talk about it. Or block for whatever reason you have, really.
About Some of OP's views:
Anti-harrassment. Engaging in discourse is not harassment until the arguments "break containment," such as with ad hominem attacks. Again, I hate echo-chambers.
Neutralship, leaning antiship. I disagree with certain takes and certain behaviors from both sides, but I also agree with some takes from both sides; ask for further elaboration if you want.
Pro-selfship AND pro-fictosexual/fictoromantic, so long as all parties involved would be able to consent. I personally believe it's generally okay to age-up a character for the purpose of selfshipping, since I know most people can't turn off their attractions and (f/o)s oftentimes don't age in canon. I don't believe giving Frisk curves and calling them 18 counts as aging up though.
Pro-para, but harmful paraphilias shouldn't be any contact stance besides no-contact.
Not all coping mechanisms are healthy and productive.
Anti-radqueer, anti-transID, pro-alternatives, pro-recovery.
Transandrophobia is real.
Pro-selfdx so long as the due research has been done.
One's religious beliefs (or lack thereof) should not affect the people who don't share those beliefs.
Pro-choice.
Pro-voting. Statistically, in the USA's two-party system, every person that doesn't vote may as well be considered a vote for the Republicans, simply because the Republicans have a more active voter-base than the Democrats despite the USA being more liberal than conservative.
The USA government is insanely flawed, especially the judicial branch.
Men in the USA can be hated, but the patriarchy oppresses them less than it does women.
White people in the USA can be hated, but they are not oppressed.
Remember to take breaks and cool down when needed! You're not lazy, rude, or invalid for needing to disengage from stressors of any kind.

I got a question for anyone stumbling upon this post, and this question is largely aimed at Millennials like myself (I'm 34).
Are forums still a thing? Like, are there punk forums, witchcraft/pagan forums, solarpunk forums, etc.?
I ask because while reddit is a neat concept, it's a bunch of communities lumped under one website, and many subreddits dedicated to niche things have a lot of beginner/newbie questions which drive a lot of the experienced peoples to other subreddits, making many who wish to get into something probably not stay long because of a lack of guidance. (Also reddit is ran by sketchy folks and stuff, so...)
I don't know if subreddits to FAQ threads that they pink anymore, or if they do that people just don't bother clicking on them because they can't be bothered to take the time to sit and read.
I also largely miss the feel of forums, to be honest, lol.
I don't get a whole lot of interaction on here, so I don't think I'm gonna get this question answered as easily as maybe Mastodon. (Actually, I don't get much interaction anywhere. I get the most of it here, shockingly, and it's not that much.)
Also yes, I know. I'm old. I have legit grey hairs that I shouldn't at my age due to the horrific amount of stress I've had to deal within the last literal decade. (Like, quite a few grey hairs. My hair overall should be pepper-colored by the time I'm 40, if not earlier.) I'm old. I'm tired. I just want some good'ol-fashioned interwebs. Us old farts easily touched more than 7 or 8 sites back in my day. I missed the variety of websites there used to be and how a whole lot of us knew very basic, minimal html code just to get shit like our MySpace and other profiles on other sites to look really fucking kick-ass and force anyone who visited it to listen to our music of which there was almost no escape from. And we also had a way easier time pirating music and movies and even whole TV shows! Yes sir-ree, we ENJOYED the bleeping and static as we signed onto dial-up! And we were THANKFUL for it! Until of course mom had to use the phone or you just got booted for no reason. And I also remember all of those flash games people made for the fun of it... Sometimes you had interactive webtoons like Foamy the Squirrel where you could click on stuff in the cartoon! And there was GaiaOnline... Now THERE was a site!

I really shouldn't have added the tags Fundraiser and GoFundMe to my grieving post...
I've gotten so many bot and phisher messages while in this stressful process of grieving that it's ridiculous.
Please forgive me if you're actually trying to message me about assistance, but I would rather you give help through one of the listed methods. As a personal rule, I do not trust messages that offer to help or give me things that are unsolicited. If I did not directly engage with you to expect that solicitation, I will not be believing your DM, and usually just mark as Spam and move on.
For years, I dealt with thousands of spam and phishing emails that were just too overwhelming. I just couldn't keep up with it all when I still had my dot com domain. It was part of what gave me the habit of just not checking rmail for months at a time. I didn't want to lose it, (the domain,) but after a month of being upset with myself for the stupid mistake, I realized all that hassle and stress was finally gone. Yes, some things were complicated for a bit, but I wasn't drowning in emails I couldn't manage to do much about. It was such a release after I finished grieving the loss of a like 20-year-old domain.
I had already decided that I would assume "Fake until proven true" as a way to protect myself. Sure, I might have ignored some real folks among the 750 auto-generated messages, and I'm genuinely sorry for that, but it is the internet. Extra steps can help keep you safe.
Semi-Related; Guestbooks of the early interweb days are a nightmare in modern times. I was kinda sad I had to just delete the whole thing when I lost dot com. But it made things better in the long run.
Keep youselves safe out there and please firgive me if you are genuinely reaching out and I do not respond. I humbly request if you're simply sending your well wishes, to put that as your message and not just hello.
Have a good day, Tumblr. You're all lovely beings, continue being lovely. ♡

First thing: Somehow couldn't make proper rebloggery, so passed it as a link. All unproperly credited parties, please feel apologized ;3 Second thing: It Glows. It Distrots Electronics. It Probably Radiates. Bad. Welcome to The Atomic Age. And remmember: watch the glow. Also, watch your molecular integrity. Third thing: Anyone else gonna ask me why the heck I would need some decent radiation detector? That's exactly why. Also, cool gizmo, also can be aquired quite cheap.
For more details, inquire your local nerd community.
PS: if your audio device starts to make random sounds (including: klicking, noise (in nerdy sense; read: hum, or sough), you should already have idea what's going on. Exaple (first half actual examples, second nerdy explanation, fun stuff):
youtube
PS. 2? It could be worse. Like, spreading glowy stuff in the air, make party drinking, dancing, and smoking, maybe grill. If you manage, before the laws of physics notice what's giong on. How?
Did you know, that almost all powders are highly explosive, when properly mixed with source of oxygen (aka: spread in the air)?
Remmember Your Health And Safety. And obligatory disclaimer: All rebloged and/or written content is for informational purposes only. Any of authors and/or rebloggers of the content (further: The Content) of this post cannot be held responsible of any use and/or abuse of The Content. The Content is provided AS IS, and what one do with The Content is his/hers/theirs and/or [insert a fitting possesive pronoun] individual responsibility, including, but not limited to: personal and/or third party harm, property loss, nausea, hedaches, depresion, sudden realizations, hightened caution in personal and/or proffesional life, spending any amount of time acknowleging and/or researching provided sources, and/or temporarily and/or permanently increased inteligence.
But, seriously. Make a habit of checking, then rechecking, then tripple checking ANYTHING you find on The Interwebs. Googling, learning, and finding out from others mistakes, as opposed to making your own, may one day, quite literally, save your life.
PS.3
On much lighter notice, the glowing is really nice, check it out:
youtube
and the wth: basically a "sonic boom" but with a light ("light boom"?), in a water.
And for the more imaginative, and/or more paranoia prone ones of us: the fact your headphones crack, or your sceen starts to act funny is most probably because of broken cable, or other relatively trivial malfunction, rather than because of putting in your pocket or usb slot radioactive material. Hopefully, chance of running into deadly radioactive material, or any seriously hazardous substance, for most of people is still quite miniscule. To not say, staistically imposible. So as it is good to have open mind, it probabbly isn't much more dangerous out there, in the world than when you started reading. Also, it's still probably a good idea, to take a walk outside, meet your friends, maybe check out some stars (they radiate too, but you shouldn't feel too much concern, They are much too far away to do any harm), and try to enjoy yourself. Tl;DR, Take care ;] PS.4 The above should be PS. 5

It bears repeating for those not aware of tumblr fandom etiquette:
If you post anti/critical/negative content in the main, show-specific (not lotr or silm or hobbit) fandom tags and don't tag it to mark it as such, you shouldn't be shocked if the less experienced fandom folks get specifically upset with you and the more experienced fandom folks block you en masse. Picking fights in the home team's tag is a great way to be dubbed "certified shit-stirrer looking for pointless fights on the interwebs as a way to deal with their ennui".*
*Disclaimer: I am an anti/critical reviewer of many things, too. We all have personal preferences! But I tag my stuff properly.
For those who do use the proper tags when posting anti content: THANK YOU and I hope you have a lovely time.
P.S. Show fans: As people learn to use the anti/critical/negative tags more, I highly rec you filter them so you only see them if you want to see them. Blocking and filtering works wonders and I usually only have to play whack-a-mole with a couple of rude people daily.

more people reblogged my slightly stoned three minute post creation of Andrew being cute in gif form than have reblogged my gif set of christian trying to go down on jenny but his not-a-cult getting in the way. and making gifs takes A Lot more time then saving and posting them from the interweb. #tumblrlife
not to imply andrew's cuteness shouldn't be appreciated

Lil bit of a rant..... Sometimes I see how young people are on Tumblr that follow me and I think... why...? I'm 26. For some people that means I'm 13 years older than them. Talking to them is strange and feels like I'm a parent in a room full of kids. Except I'm not a parent yet so it's just an adult in a room full of kids wondering why these tiny beans want to be besties with someone that could be their mom. O.o
It just makes me uncomfortable sometimes because I know what I've talked about in my AUs or things that I've posted and I remember being 13 and I remember how I thought and I know these little kids aren't mature enough to handle a lot of the stuff that I post. And I don't get all n s f w or anything but it's just weird and I feel like I have to censor everything I say.... even though Tumblr really isn't meant for kids. I do trybamd tag things but I don't want to make the kids see me and think my cursing is rolemodel material.
I dunno.... I don't want to hurt these kids feelings, but..... I'm not sure i want to be friends with random 13 year olds I meet online. It feels weirdly uncomfortable. I'm almost old enough to be your mom and it's even more uncomfortable when the young teens try to get me on skype. Like??? That's not gonna happen! First of all someone so young shouldn't be showing their face to randos on the interwebs! ESPECIALLY ON TUMBLR WHICH IS KNOWN FOR HAVING SOME RR5AL SHADY PEOPLE. And second, it's just super shady if someone is like he'll yeah let's Skype to a CHILD ON THE INTERNET.
Everything about this is just so uncomfortable for me. I don't like it. So sorry if this offends people but yeah........

Aww, thanks! I try, lmao
People in the horror fandom, honestly any horror fandom, that gatekeep, ship shame, and act all high and mighty is so hilarious to me. You're perfectly fine, completely a-ok, with media that portrays problematic characters, taboo subject matter, and general dark, gruesome themes, but cover thine eyes and ears and shrink away in disgust because some rando on the interwebs ships something that is "weird and icky"? Okay, susan, not everything is about you. I shouldn't have to be shamed/bend over backwards to accomedate you just because you're uncomfy when you can just save your energy and ignore it. Problematic ships of any kind are going to exist, regardless of the fandom (and I don't necessarily agree with every problematic ship that exists either, but I can acknowledge that they Exist and I do my part of avoiding things I'm uncomfortable with), and I would think that would be one of the first things people realize when getting into virtually anything horror or dark fiction-related.
And that's not even getting into the people who only preach the Golden Law of the, quote on quote, "correct ships". I once saw a post on this dreaded site saying something along the lines of "you can write about Victor being gay, but only if you ship him with Clerval! That's the only valid ship!" Um...pardon? That's not how this works. Not everyone wants to write/read the same 100% unproblematic coffee shop AU, susan---sometimes I want to read about fruity mad science shenanigans that get a little mean and fucky. And, again, I will never not be baffled by the presence of moral grandstanders in the horror fandom, any horror fandom. Gothic lit, slashers, hell, I'm sure there's some lurkers in the cosmic horror fandom whining about the mere existence of tentacle pron erotica and all the problematic mind fuckery going on over there, considering this hellsite has been on a consistent "no problematic or weird content allowed" downward spiral since...god, 2016? It feels like ages 💀
Also, happy to find another Victor/Jekyll shipper out in the wild! My impulsive rewatch of Penny Dreadful has cruelly reminded me of the utter potential between these two fucking disasters, I think they should've held hands and maybe kissed, and I still Weep Bitter Tears-
The funniest thing about the selfcest fanwank is that the gothic horror fandom is having its own "don't ship Jekyll and Hyde together cuz they're the same person and that's weird'
The gothic horror fandom
Isn't "weird" like
The point
How do u even read gothic horror if you have this much disgust for "weird" tropes, lol

His Yoke Is Easy from The Messiah by George Friderich Handel, The Academy of St. Martin In the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner: I've posted before about one of my most influential choral conductors, who once told me that, "Handel was a German who wrote Italian operas for the English."
He meant far more than English audiences.
It is beyond curious that a race of people so determined to avoid awkwardness that they make every moment more awkward, should interpret this portion of The Messiah with such unfettered joy, and defiance.
Speaking of awkward, the interwebs wil tell you that the lyric here reads, "His burthen is light". But, what is a "burthen"? Is it some kind of burqa for childbearing women? For newborn babies? Or, is it simply some rotten ingredient in the word salad of some semi-literate gatekeeper?
Who knows? Maybe the English was baroque-en.
The truth is, if you want any sense of what these lyrics mean, you have to go to the source -- Jesus Himself, as quoted in Matthew 11:28-30.
Now that you get it, click the link, and crank it up. For your sweater-knitting auntie, for your bullet-journaling frenemy, for every "25 Things ..." blog post, for the Nazis past and present, play this one loud.
Merry Christmas, Baby, Otis Redding: In a season that's so often about temporary glitz and empty promises, it's good to remember that it's not Christmas unless it's got soul.
Redding doesn't bother to hide his anguish here. He's clearly thinking of other Christmases that weren't so merry, wondering if this one, too, will evaporate before his eyes. For someone like this, you shouldn't say it if you don't mean it.
What Child Is This, Paul Horn: With a choir of soprano, alto, and bass flutes, and a primitive octave splitter called a Multivider, jazz titan, Paul Horn (Chico Hamilton Quintet), created one of the least-known but most enduring holiday albums ever recorded.
The big reverb and parallel fifths would put this right at home on any Game of Thrones soundtrack, while the Scotch snaps in the bass give it a sort of traditional Christmas feel. But, his articulation -- so liquid he could almost be scatting -- puts the stamp of a jazzer all over this piece. The whole album is like this -- a heady brew of musical influences.
Christmas In Hollis, Run-D.M.C.: I'm hardly a connoisseur of this genre. What I do remember is this: While the media threatened us with nightmare images of wilding teens, and super predators, super-strengthened by crack, or angel dust, or ... whatever, Run-D.M.C. presented  an almost-suburban story of naughty elves, a Christmas miracle, and as much traditional, Southern food as you could eat.
What followed years later was the discrediting of some doctoral candidate's super-predator theory, the acquittal of the so-called Central Park five, and the international exposure of Donald Trump, whose newspaper fanned the flames, as a liar, a bigot, and full-time attention-seeker.
Meanwhile, Run-D.M.C. are probably home for Christmas, rejoicing because they know exactly what's on the menu.
Drosselmeyer's Gifts from The Nutcracker, L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande conducted by Ernest Ansermet: Let's, once and for all, abandon the notion that The Nutcracker is merely bland, holiday fare for the kiddies. Russian culture -- about which Russia's president seems entirely clueless -- won't let you have that. And it shouldn't.
See, sometimes, we expect more than we should from mere human effort. Sometimes, gifts offer us more fear and frustration than uncomplicated joy.
These are probably good things to remember for those who celebrate the birth of someone who promised, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Christmastime Is Here, Vince Guaraldi Trio (above): Maybe it's that the melody starts on a note that begs to be resolved. Maybe it's the fact that they never quite hit the high notes on the head. In other words, maybe there was a method to Vince Guaraldi's madness.
None of that satisfactorily explains how a genius of cool jazz got a group of kids to deliver a performance suffused with melancholy.
Way back in 1965, The Vince Guaraldi Trio, and a handful of kids figured out how to say, in the language of music, exactly what Christmas means to some of us. I see you, Linus, and this performance gives me chills every time I hear it.
Gaudete, Steeleye Span: Ah, the 70s!
There's a corner of Twitter where people whose gravest concern was having zits for the Homecoming dance, tell themselves scary stories of How Bad It Was back then, assuming that all who read these dystopian fantasies not only Know What Is Meant, but agree wholeheartedly, with an accompanying shiver down their spines.
Personally, I liked it just fine when kids didn't kill other kids for shutting them out of the in crowd, and English folk rockers could sing a carol about Jesus's birth, a capella, in Latin, taking it to Number 1 on the charts, albeit in their home country.
Do They Know It's Christmas, Band Aid: When this single was released, I was deeply moved, as were many.
Older, ostensibly wiser friends strove to burst my bubble. They counseled that Band Aid's efforts were useless, that food sat rotting on the docks because the organizers hadn't the brains to do it right. Work harder, they said. Make money and spend it. There is nothing else. Your heroes are hopelessly filthy.
No.
See, we have no right to expect humans and human effort to be perfect. Purity culture was as ugly then as it is now.
There's more to life than getting and spending, and Band Aid proves it. The initial effort served as the springboard for major charitable projects by Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, and Bono -- efforts that continue to this day.
"We let in light, and we banish shade", the song goes. It's not just talking about flipping a switch.
Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem, Dailey and Vincent: Number One with a bullet -- or, maybe, it's a Bible. And why?
Because too many conservatives are dreading any kind of overtly-religious end to this countdown, even as they exploit the religious right in a last-ditch effort to grab more money, more power.
Forget about it.
See, physics may be the reason for the season, but Jesus is the reason Christians call it Christmas. All the ideological squeamishness (read: hypocrisy) on conservatives' part won't change that.
So, Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays -- take your pick. May the coming year give you enough courage to use the holiday greetings your conscience dictates, no matter who else is listening.
