Shoulder Dislocation Treatment in Delhi
Shoulder is a unique joint to have a 360-degree range of motion. The Humeral head makes a joint with a socket – called the glenoid. The shape of this socket is flat with the surrounding labrum making it deep. The labrum tissue of the shoulder joint is the thickened part of the shoulder capsule which makes the socket deep and has all the nerve endings with connection to the brain for the joint position sense of the joint. This joint position sense from the brain makes the shoulder joint always centric during the motion of the shoulder joint. The 360-degree range of the shoulder joint is possible due to inherent laxity in the joint. This arrangement makes it a highly mobile joint of the body which is essential for all day-to-day activities of the upper limb. But the laxity and mobility of this joint renders it prone for joint dislocation unlike other deep-seated joints of the body example the hip joint. Joint dislocation means that the head of the humerus comes out of the socket of the shoulder joint. This happens when the force of Abduction and External rotation is applied to the head of the humerus. Meaning when the arm is lifted and is at or above the shoulder joint, example when you are trying to throw a ball. In this position of abduction and external rotation the joint can get dislocated if the force applied in this position is greater than what the shoulder joint can sustain. This can happen during a fall, accident or while playing a sport with the arm in abduction and external rotation.
Shoulder Joint dislocation is a very violent movement of the joint causing the stabilizing ligaments of the shoulder joint to tear. The shoulder dislocation causes anterior labral tear along with injury to other structures. The force of dislocation can also at times cause fracture of the Humerus head or more frequently indentation in to the head of the humerus called the Hill Sach’s lesion. This is a sign of how violent the force is, causing the head to collapse at a localized area. Since this is a permanent insult to the head of the humerus, this further causes the head to engage with the socket every time the head is lifted and taken beyond a certain range. The patient with this pathology of the shoulder joint starts to feel apprehensive about the joint feeling loose or unstable in this position. The Fracture can also be seen at the anterior margin of the socket – called the glenoid. In anatomical terms it is called Bony Bankart. People with this kind of injury to the shoulder joint are prone to easily dislocate their joints with mild provocative maneuver of the shoulder joint. Especially the patients with history of dislocation before 20 years of age have been found to have recurrent episodes of shoulder dislocation due to the above explained factors.
Shoulder joints can dislocate in the elderly people due to a different mechanism of the injury to the shoulder. In the elderly people if the fall or jerk to the shoulder causes them to dislocate then the likely cause is tear of their Rotator cuff. This tear of the Rotator cuff causes a permanent tent through which they easily dislocate in a provocative position of the shoulder joint. This position of abduction and external rotation meaning the position of the arm like you are throwing a ball causes the head to escape through the tent of the torn rotator cuff to dislocate. This process can become recurrent and cause further damage to the surrounding structures of the joint.
Dr. Vishwadeep Sharma is a renowned orthopedic surgeon in Delhi specializing in shoulder dislocation treatment. His approach involves a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's condition, followed by personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's needs. With extensive experience in shoulder dislocation surgery, Dr. Sharma emphasizes the importance of minimally invasive techniques to promote faster recovery and better outcomes for his patients.
Role of Arthroscopy in treatment of shoulder dislocation
If the shoulder dislocation becomes recurrent, with a constant fear of the joint feeling loose or unstable then there is a role for arthroscopy in these joints.
Arthroscopy is a key hole surgery where a small scope is inserted into the joint cavity which is attached to a camera. With arthroscopy you can visualize each structure of the shoulder. In the shoulder joint with dislocation the structure which is torn, especially the labrum tissue is re-attached to the margin of the socket-Glenoid called Bankart Repair. This restores the normal mechanics of the shoulder joint. Once the attached Labrum heals on to the face of the glenoid the normal joint position sense of the joint is communicated to the brain via the re-established channel. This restoration of the normal function is possible through a small incision surgery with just a day of stay in the hospital with fast rehab and return to a normal lifestyle. But it is a process followed over many weeks to avoid any complications later.
Advances in the technique of this procedure have drastically happened over the last decade with more and more latest techniques added over the last few years. Among them, procedures like Remplissage for the Hill’s Sachs Lesion are getting more and more established. This Procedure is done to fill the defect on the humerus head. This defect or crater(for understanding) in the head of the humerus is filled with the posterior capsule and the tendon of the infraspinatus. Every technique is done by a specialist shoulder surgeon with training in the same.
Bone Block procedure is also a procedure for the shoulder joint dislocation cases with bone loss in the socket- Glenoid side. This procedure can be done arthroscopically with a patient’s own bone from another body part. The bone block is cut and contoured to match the anterior aspect of the glenoid and fixed with either screw or loop devices.

Shoulder Dislocation Surgery in Delhi
Shoulder dislocation is a common injury that often requires surgical intervention for long-term stabilization and function. When conservative treatments such as physical therapy and rest are not effective in preventing recurrent dislocations, surgical options may be considered. One of the most common surgical procedures for shoulder dislocation is known as arthroscopic stabilization. This minimally invasive surgery involves repairing or tightening the torn or stretched ligaments and soft tissues around the shoulder joint to improve stability.
This minimally invasive procedure, performed by skilled surgeons like Dr. Vishwadeep Sharma, offers a promising solution for those suffering from shoulder pain and limited mobility. With small incisions and the use of a tiny camera, arthroscopic surgery allows for precise diagnosis and treatment of various shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff tears, labral tears, and shoulder instability.
One of the key benefits of arthroscopic shoulder surgery is its ability to minimize tissue damage and reduce recovery time compared to traditional open surgeries. Additionally, this advanced technique enables surgeons like Dr. Vishwadeep Sharma to focus on repairing specific issues within the joint without disrupting surrounding healthy tissue. As a result, patients can experience faster healing and rehabilitation following their procedure, getting back on track with their daily routines in a shorter time frame.
If you are looking for a shoulder dislocation surgery in Delhi, schedule an appointment with Dr. Vishwadeep Sharma today.

Orthopaedic injuries affect the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. These injuries can arise from accidents, sports activities, repetitive strain, or age-related wear and tear.
Common Orthopaedic Injuries
Fractures
Causes: Fractures, or broken bones, typically result from direct trauma, falls, or accidents. Conditions such as osteoporosis can also make bones more prone to fractures.
Symptoms: Intense pain, swelling, bruising, deformity, and difficulty moving the affected area.
Treatment: Treatment often involves immobilization with casts or splints, surgical intervention to realign and stabilize the bone, and rehabilitation exercises to restore strength and function.
Sprains and Strains
Causes: Sprains occur when ligaments are overstretched or torn, often due to twisting injuries. Strains involve muscles or tendons and are caused by overstretching or overuse.
Symptoms: Pain, swelling, bruising, and limited movement. Sprains typically cause more swelling, while strains can lead to muscle spasms.
Treatment: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (RICE), pain relief medications, and physical therapy to restore strength and flexibility.
Dislocations
Causes: Dislocations happen when bones in a joint are forced out of their normal positions, usually due to trauma or falls.
Symptoms: Severe pain, visible deformity, swelling, and immobility of the joint.
Treatment: Medical professionals perform a reduction to realign the joint, followed by immobilization, pain management, and physical therapy to regain joint function.
Tendonitis
Causes: Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon, often due to repetitive stress or overuse in activities such as sports, typing, or manual labor.
Symptoms: Pain and tenderness near a joint, swelling, and restricted movement.
Treatment: Rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy to strengthen the affected area, and activity modification to prevent recurrence.
Rotator Cuff Injuries
Causes: Rotator cuff injuries involve tears or inflammation in the shoulder's muscles and tendons, often due to repetitive overhead activities or acute trauma.
Symptoms: Shoulder pain, weakness, difficulty lifting the arm, and limited range of motion.

Joint Replacement
Tumblr media
Joint Replacement
A joint replacement surgery is performed by the joint replacement surgeon in order to restore the function of an impaired or harmed joint. The procedure is also commonly known as arthroplasty. The joint replacement surgery is performed to remove the impaired or diseased parts of the joint and substitute them with the artificial components or man-made parts, called as prosthesis.
The replacement of joint can effectively provide relief from the pain and disability to perform day to day tasks. Hip and knee replacement surgeries are most commonly performed, however, other joint replacement procedure may comprise as shoulders, wrists, ankles, elbows and fingers.
When is joint replacement surgery needed?
The major reason for performing the joint replacement surgery is the ineffectiveness of the non-surgical treatment such as medications, physical therapy and certain lifestyle changes. When the patient does not get relief from the pain and disability by adopting all these medical alternatives and therapy, the joint replacement surgeon recommends such patients for total joint replacement procedures.
It is not that the orthopedic surgeon will directly hop on to the surgery. They encourage you for non-operative alternatives first. However, when the condition is not getting under control by such options, then the joint replacement surgery is the only option remains. There can be several reasons that may lead to joint pain and disability such as arthritis or osteoarthritis, injury, depreciation in joints, fracture, etc. The condition may damage or deteriorate the cartilage or bone in the joint. Under such circumstances, it becomes essential for the joint replacement surgeon to prepare the candidate for the joint replacement surgery, in order to get a permanent treatment of the pain and disability.
Surgical procedure for joint replacement
The joint replacement surgery procedure may last from 1 to 3 hours depending upon the joints where the surgery is performed. The surgical procedure can be conducted at the hospital or at an outpatient surgery clinic. Before the surgery the anesthetic team and joint replacement surgeon will discuss with you about the kind of anesthetic to be used. Usually the procedure is done using general anesthesia, however, the selection of anesthesia may also depend on the patient and anesthesiologist preference.
During the joint replacement surgery in Delhi, the orthopedic surgeon will remove the damaged or harmed cartilage and bone of the joint and replace it with the man made artificial prosthesis which is made up of metal, plastic or ceramic. The prosthesis which is replaced by the joint replacement surgeon is exactly the copy of the parts removed. For example, if you are experiencing a shoulder replacement surgery, the surgeon will replace the damaged or deteriorated socket, ball and stem with the artificial prosthesis. Similarly, in a hip replacement surgery, the damaged ball which is the upper end joint of the femur, is duly replaced with the artificial metal ball which attached to a metal stem that is fitted into the femur. Apart from that the artificial plastic socket is inserted into the pelvis in order to replace the damaged socket.
Possible risks and complications
The possibilities of risks and complications after the joint replacement surgery cannot be ignored completely in any surgical procedure. The complications may happen with the in arthroplasty as well. According to the joint replacement surgeon in Delhi, the complications and risks may include as such:
Loosening or dislocation of the prosthesis
Chances of blood clots in the legs or lungs
Bleeding
Infection
Injuries to the nerves or blood vessels in the area of the surgery
Wear on joint replacements
Possibility of ball of the new joint come out of the socket
There can be some other complication associated with the joint replacement surgery depending upon the particular medical condition. Your orthopedic doctor will discuss about the possible occurrence of such complication. However, the good this is that most the post-surgery complications can be successfully treated by the joint replacement surgeon and the occurrence of such issues are not very common among the patient.
Recovery and rehabilitation
It needs to keep in mind that the recovery and rehabilitation after the joint replacement surgery may differ from person to person. The may joint replacement surgeon induce you to use or move your new joint very soon (within a day after your operation). If you have had a knee or hip replacement surgery, you will often be instructed to stand or walk a little with the help of a walker or crutches. You may experience some sort of discomfort or pain which is quite common and temporary in a new joint. The pain occurs because the surrounding muscles are weak due to inactivity.
It is quite crucial to start moving the new joint right after the joint replacement surgery surgery. A physical therapist and the joint replacement surgeon will discuss with you the proper exercise schedule and complete rehabilitation program for you which you can follow at home as well. For the persisting pain, you will be administered medicine to control it, so that you can perform the designed exercise program that will help you to restore muscle strength and proper range of motion. The recovery may take 6–8 weeks time in which you would be able to perform usual day to day task, while to regain complete strength and vigor, it might take 8–12 months. If you experience any kind of complication or discomfort at any period of time post surgery, immediately consult with the orthopedic doctor .
Conclusion
By and large, the results of the joint replacement surgery is quite effective and highly successful. Most of the patient feels comfort and relief from the continuous and unbearable pain after the surgery. It is also recommended that you should consult an experienced and reputed joint replacement surgeon to get the best results from the joint replacement procedure.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak Symptoms and Treatment in Dwarka, Delhi
Tumblr media
Ever experienced throbbing head pain accompanied by nausea and neck stiffness? These could be signs of a Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak, a condition where the fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord escapes through a hole in the connective tissues. Causes range from injuries to medical procedures like lumbar punctures or epidurals, and sometimes, the cause remains elusive. The good news? Most cases resolve on their own within days, with no long-term issues. However, persistent symptoms may require mending the tear in the connective tissue. Below, a top Neurosurgeon in Delhi explains the symptoms, causes, and treatment of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leaks sharing about this condition in-depth. Read on.
What is a spinal fluid leak?
A spinal fluid leak occurs when there’s a hole in the protective layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord, known as meninges. These layers hold the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), vital for flushing out contaminants, transporting nutrients, and cushioning the brain and spinal cord.
The outermost layer, the dura mater, is a tough tissue responsible for maintaining CSF within the meninges. However, if a breach occurs, CSF escapes, leading to symptoms like headaches, nausea, and neck stiffness. While most cases resolve without severe complications, in rare instances, a spinal fluid leak can lead to serious outcomes such as stroke, coma, or even death.
Symptoms of a spinal fluid leak
Persistent head pain might be a symptom of a Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak. However, not everyone with a leak will have this symptom. The pain is often positional, intensifying when upright and easing when lying down. Typically located at the back of the head, it can vary in severity and location.
Other common symptoms include:
Nausea and vomiting
Neck pain or stiffness
Imbalance
Sensitivity to light or sound
Changes in hearing
Pain between shoulder blades
Arm numbness or pain
Dizziness
Altered thinking, akin to brain fog
Changes in vision or taste
Fatigue
Facial pain or numbness
Causes of spinal fluid leak
The causes of a spinal fluid leak can vary. They often originate from incidents or medical procedures affecting the protective layers around your brain and spinal cord. Some common causes of spinal fluid leak are:
Trauma: Accidents or injuries, such as a severe blow to the head or spine, can create a breach in the protective tissues, leading to a leak.
Medical Procedures: Invasive medical procedures like lumbar punctures, spinal surgeries, or epidural injections may result in a tear in the connective tissues.
Spontaneous Leaks: In some cases, a spinal fluid leak can occur spontaneously without an apparent cause.
Risk factors associated
Certain factors can increase the chances of experiencing a Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak, either in the spine or the cranial region.
Risk factors for spinal CSF leaks include:
Previous spine surgery or procedures.
Conditions like Marfan syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, affect connective tissues and may lead to joint hypermobility and dislocations.
For cranial CSF leaks, risk factors may include:
Prior skull surgeries.
Obstructive sleep apnea.
Head trauma.
Presence of a tumour at the skull base.
Irregularities of the inner ear or skull base.
Complications
Complications may arise if a cranial CSF leak remains untreated. Neglecting the issue can potentially lead to serious problems, such as meningitis, and an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain. Another concern is tension pneumocephalus, a condition where air enters the spaces around the brain, posing a risk to neurological well-being.
On the spinal front, untreated CSF leaks could result in subdural hematomas, characterised by bleeding on the brain’s surface. While some CSF leaks often resolve on their own, seeking medical attention from a medical professional can prevent these complications, leading to a smoother recovery process.
Diagnosis of Cerebrospinal Fluid Issue in Dwarka
If a Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak is suspected, your doctor may suggest several tests to pinpoint the issue accurately.
Analysis of Nasal Fluid: This test detects beta-2 transferrin, a protein mainly found in CSF.
CT Scan: It is a non-invasive procedure utilising X-rays and advanced computer technology to generate detailed images of the brain’s structure.
MRI Scan: This imaging technique uses magnets and radio frequencies to provide detailed organ and structure images. It helps in locating and assessing CSF leaks.
Cisternogram — CT or Nuclear Medicine: These tests involve a spinal tap to introduce a fluid into the CSF, helping identify the presence and source of a CSF leak.
CT Cisternogram: It pinpoints the site of a CSF leak, using a contrast medium and a spinal tap followed by a CT scan.
Pledget Study: It confirms CSF leakage into the nose or mastoid by injecting a radioactive tracer during a spinal tap, with cotton pads collecting fluid for analysis.
Myelogram Scan: This involves injecting a contrasting substance into the spinal cord while utilising MRI or CT scans to identify tears or ruptures in the dura.
CSF leaks treatment in Dwarka, Delhi
Treatment for CSF leaks is important, especially for patients with persistent symptoms. Repairing tears in the dura promptly reduces headache pain and lowers the risk of meningitis.
Nasal CSF Leak: Endoscopic nasal CSF leak closure is done through the nostrils. It repairs the leak using nasal tissue or a biomaterial graft. Hospital stay duration depends on the leak’s size, typically a few days. Some may require a lumbar drain before discharge.
Ear CSF Leak: This closure involves a skin incision behind the ear, accessing the leak near the mastoid. The opening is sealed by repairing with tissue or a graft.
Spinal CSF Leak: This treatment involves when blood or fibrin patches are injected into the spinal canal under CT guidance. If unsuccessful, duraplasty, or surgical repair of the dura, might be required.
The outlook for those experiencing a Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak is generally positive, depending on the underlying cause. Fortunately, in most cases, the issue resolves with no lasting symptoms.  However, recurring CSF leaks could signal a potential concern—high CSF pressure (hydrocephalus). It’s crucial to address this condition with the help of a neuro doctor in Dwarka promptly. Regular monitoring and medical guidance are key to ensuring a favourable outlook and preventing recurrent leaks. In cases where hydrocephalus is diagnosed, targeted interventions are important for the patient’s well-being.
