Marilyn Likes Lariensa Too Much! (Webcomic)

Before ystrike assassinates me on the spot with her really fast reviews (like legitimately, it's really scary how fast you read and make those and I get a heart attack every time because you might recommend something before me, scary), here's another isekai. The relationship between Marilyn and Lara remind me a lot of I Have Become the Hero's Rival, meaning that the story could have gone a yuri route and I wouldn't have batted an eye. This one's story is actually located in a school, which is surprisingly not something I see in isekai that often, and revolves around Marilyn trying to prevent the bad ending that Lara will get when meeting certain characters.

The story itself is about the main character Irene who is best friends with the main female lead, Claudia. To prevent her friend from reaching the bad ending, she tries to stop all possible bad ending routes... a little too well. Claudia refuses all the three suitors (all of which seem to be yandere for her) in favor of living with Irene. Irene is shocked by this as now the three leads will kidnap Claudia, so she does the best to prevent that from happening. Claudia and her brother Felix basically adopt Irene into their family, and being super rich, Claudia spoils her like crazy, making Irene essentially a sugar baby. In the original story, Felix also is used as a sacrifice by having a demon introduced into his body, so Irene gets him to increase his magic resistance so the demon will have less control. Meanwhile, the two siblings do their best to protect Irene from the assassins and other suspicious individuals from attacking Irene, as she has evoked the three yandere's rage. Felix has to go and accept the demon into his body so that the other three yandere's can't get to it, which leads to his desires being strengthened and leads him to internally fight with the demon over his desires over Irene. Claudia, Felix and Irene take a ship to an island so that Claudia can make a bond with a spirit, a being that allows her to become more powerful with her mana magic and in so also releases a different spirit from the island.

Marilyn as a protagonist is... alright. I don't think she's terrible, but I don't think she's the best either. Her goal is to prevent Lara from meeting the tragic fate she had in the original novel because she loves Lara a lot as a character and as a friend and as a result is generally pretty prickly around the main guys that might cause it. I like her various facial expressions, but the way she gets the guys off of her back is kinda... well, its a bit boring, since it usually requires acting kind of weird in front of the characters to prevents specific scenes from happening. Because of all of the interference, the three main guys she's trying to protect Lara from end up getting an interest in her, which seems to happen a lot in isekai tropes. That being said, it is pretty fun to watch her go around getting angry at people and just failing in general.

Lara is pretty much the standard baby of the group- the kind of innocent child who deserves the world kind of thing, but she's not that interesting in my opinion. Yes, she does stand up to Marilyn in times, but she's too kind in most cases and while she has her flaws, she's mostly able to get away with most punishments the other girls face because of main character powers. Lara cares a lot about Marilyn and does protect and listen to her, which is nice, but again, I don't find her that interesting anyways. She's a lot smarter than people let her off for, but she feels too much like a pure shoujo character in a cast that is more mischievous and darker than her.

What I do like about the story is that Marilyn and Lara do have actual friends that help her out, which isn't to say that doesn't happen in other isekais, it's just usually the "friends" the protagonists have are either more like work buddies or are mostly focused on the plot, whereas the two's friends are people who help them with the shenanigans that happen in the school. They all have their own distinct personalities as well and they hang out and do normal high school things like have sleepovers, which I thought was nice and they have their own side stories and fun things that they do together.

The yandere in this one is Sibel and honestly I don't like him that much, he reminds me a lot of Caelus from The Extra Refuses Excessive Obsession, in which he's sort of overpowered, though in Caelus's case it makes more sense because he's like the strongest wizard in the world, while Caelus is just... a student. I actually dislike Sibel more just because his motivations are "nobody ever hated me this much before and now I'm interested." In any case, Sibel is the mastermind pulling a lot of the strings, since instead of falling in love with Lara like in the original novel, he falls in love with Marilyn, and pretty much makes her life worse by forcibly causing misunderstandings, using his face to make Marilyn pity him and being a mastermind with a lot of incidents that happen in school. Marilyn doesn't like him either (for pretty obvious reasons, since he's the one who causes Lara a bad ending in the original novel) and it' s pretty easy to see why. He plays with everyone and manipulates them to serve the purpose of either playing with or getting close to Marilyn, though in a way that seems like he knows everything. He has a couple of powers like being able to see everything based on people he touches and causing curses, which is funny because as far as I know literally nobody else has powers like that. Still, it's not like he isn't a yandere or anything, he gets really jealous over one of the guys that Marilyn dates (and probably would have killed him had it not been for Marilyn's interference), tries to frame both him and his distant cousin, Seare, so they will get expelled (and Marilyn pretty much calls him a yandere when describing it to Seare) and you know just generally making Marilyn annoyed. I'm surprised that Marilyn didn't try to push him off of the roof he's always sitting on considering how much she dislikes him. I think the biggest problem I have is that Sibel doesn't face any repercussions (I mean besides that Marilyn rebukes her friendship with him in the later chapters and refuses to spend time with him over the summer) for his actions because of his status, which I would understand if he was an overpowered knight or god or something, but he's a student who besides his weird powers that nobody else has, seems pretty normal (albeit pretty popular). Maybe this will change in the future, I have no idea. In general, I personally don't like Sibel that much, but he is much more manipulative than he lets off and that alone is already pretty interesting for a yandere.

Similarly Lycon has a chance to be a yandere as well, albeit a softer one. It's pretty obvious that Marilyn will end up with Sibel, but Lycon does have moments of jealousy like the aforementioned date that Marilyn goes on. Still though, Lycon's love is more understandable since they are essentially childhood friends, though Marilyn feels guilty since he fell for her before she was isekaied into her body. There are cute moments where Lycon goes on a date with Marilyn and buys her a bunch of stuff, though unfortunately, he doesn't show up that much in the webcomic due to them being in different classes.

You could probably mistake the Professor as a yandere too, but probably just towards his own wife, as a weird projectionist yandere and even then, it seems like kind of stretch considering he didn't just try to get rid of the rich guy that she dated anyways. I wouldn't count him as a yandere since although he does do a lot of actions a yandere would (keep a ton of pictures of Lara, get weirdly touchy with her, declare her as her final love), but the intentions are still towards his wife, and he also gets another blonde haired girl expelled because he was in love with her too... so I wouldn't say he is one.

Shoutout to Chris, that guy that Marilyn dates, because even though she doesn't like him, I think he's adorable and I would headpat him.

Anyways, the story does have its twists and turns and if you're interested in more isekai that take place in schools instead of random royal places, try this one!

うちの師匠はしっぽがない/Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai/ My Master Has No Tail

It looks fun and cute, shapeshifting tanuki girl being main character. Theme is quite rarely seen, about Rakugo -storytelling tradition so I'm interested to see this anime and it being from Taisho era so background and history will be nice to see. Of course cast is nice as well.

Looks quite interesting, and PV looked nice. Enoki Junya voicing main character. Action, adventure and fantasy themed.

SPY×FAMILY 2nd Cour/Part 2

Meeting again Forger -family! Excited to see this and how they each develope and their family time. OF course seeing their new addition to the family!

後宮の烏/Koukyuu no Karasu/Raven of the Inner Palace

This looks amazing, love the animation style. Characters is looking interesting and pretty, story is interesting so curious to see this. Cast is nice; Yashiro Taku, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Shimazaki Nobunaga...

悪役令嬢なのでラスボスを飼ってみました/Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita/I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss

Umehara Yuuichirou. Looks amazing and funny, and of course Umehara being Demon King's voice *melts*.

Nekomimi characters. PV looked cute and funny. Curious to see this, probably quite heartwarming anime.

Ninja anime. PV looked great and cast is nice. Two clans fighting, action scenes also looked nice. Excited to see this.

VAZZROCK The Animation

This is also one anime I have been waiting for ages so finally able to see these boys. Music sounded great when they showed sneak peeks from the OP/ED music and cast is nice. So excited!!!

PV looked pretty and characters handsome. Story seems interesting, and cast is great, Kimura Ryouhei, Uchida Yuuma, Hatano Wataru, Uchiyama Kouki.

Umehara Yuuichirou, Shimazaki Nobunaga. PV looked nice and animation style interesting as well as quite colorful. Curious to see this as story is looking nice.

ブルーロック/Blue Lock

Have been waiting this football anime forever so finally able to see this. PVs have been teasing us, and the cast is incredible, so excited!!!

永久少年 Eternal Boys/Eikyuu Shounen Eternal Boys/Eternal Boys

So curious to see this anime, a little different approach of idol group, as they are middle aged men. Cast is nice; Konishi Katsuyuki, Fukuyama Jun, Morikawa Toshiyuki, Namikawa Daisuke... and PV looked great and funny.

クールドジ男子/Cool Doji Danshi/Play It Cool, Guys

This looks so cute and funny, and main cast is great; Chiba Shouya, Kobayashi Chiaki, Uchiyama Kouki and Umehara Yuuichirou. Love the animation style and excited to see how they live their daily lives. Sad that one episode last only 15 min.

チェンソーマン/Chainsaw Man

It's been ages (or it seems so) when they published that MAPPA will make this anime. So quite curious to see this finally, and PV looked really good and fight scenes very MAPPA style. For me quite new cast so excited to hear their work and of course see Pochita.

Plot sounded hilarious and just curious to see this, and Sugita Tomokazu is one of the main characters (Dummy Head). Don't have any expectations but still excited to see this.

うる星やつら/Urusei Yatsura (2022)

Haven't seen the original anime but my friend recommended to watch this new version so really curious to see this anime. Good cast; Miyano Mamoru, Kamiya Hiroshi and Hayami Saori.

Mod Hina: Ah. Like Death Note, I also read Fruits Basket in middle school. This is such a nostalgia bomb for me because Fruits Basket was my first manga, iirc.

Fruits Basket actually introduced me to the idea of online scanlation groups too. I couldn’t find the last few volumes in any libraries around me, nor in any bookstores. So I resorted to downloading them online after finding out about the translations.

Fullmetal Alchemist - 1

Mod Hina: Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my all-time favorite manga and I’m very sad that it only got 1 nomination out of all of the nominations.

FMA is very poignant and deals a lot with the consequences and reality of war. It’s very good and it’s very amazing. Please read it if you can.

It’s a longer series and while I did start reading this one in middle school, unlike the others, I took longer to finish reading this. I think I finished sometime in high school.

I think this manga still holds up to the test of time, as well.

If you’re more of an anime person, the anime is really good too! I’d recommend watching the original FMA first, and then FMA:B because of the fact that FMA:B’s beginning is rushed, because it assumes that you’ve either read the manga or watched the original FMA.

The original FMA deviates from the manga canon, which is where FMA:B was made to fix that.

Please appreciate Greedling he is my favorite character of all time.

Mod Hina: I highly recommend this manga.

Another moment where I’m sad that this didn’t get that many recommendations.

It’s very realistic. Like, you’ll end up hating some characters, but that’s because they’re written to be realistic. There are people who did something wrong, who have character flaws, who know that they’re flawed, and some of them will try to change themselves, while others will disregard it because their life is fine, like in real life.

Overall the story is extremely poignant and touching. The ending is open-ended, which some people might not like, but I really enjoyed this because it’s so well written. It reflects real life, in my opinion.

Love so Life

Love so Life is a shoujo manga which has a lot of chapters but it’s a good one for those who like slow romances and really cute. It’s quite lengthy but makes up for it with its cuteness and heartwarming moments.

Here are some of the basics.

Genre: Shoujo, Comedy, Drama, Romance, Slice of Life

Summary:

Love so Life revolves around infant twins Aoi and Akane who live with their uncle Matsunaga after their mother died and their father left. Matsunaga works as a television announcer and has trouble adjusting to living with his niece and nephew. He is about to quit his work to take care of them when he meets Shiharu who is a high schooler working in the daycare. Aoi and Akane take to her really well and Matsunaga asks for her to babysit them since they aren’t comfortable around any other people. Shiharu agrees to take care of the twins and helps Matsunaga with the house work and then goes home to the orphanage at night. She falls in love with Matsunaga while also falling in love with taking care of the twins and watching them bond as a family with Matsunaga.

Now onto the characters

Shiharu Nakamura

Shiharu is a 17 year old who lives in the Sunflower Orphanage. Her mother died when she was five. She works to save money so she can leave the orphanage and is good at taking care of the children who live there also. She wants to open her own daycare when she’s older. Matsunaga asks her to take care of the twins and offers to pay double of what she gets at the daycare.

Seiji Matsunaga

He is 25 years old and is a television announcer. He is the twins uncle and takes care of them. His brother ran away and left the twins in his care when their mom died. He broke up with his ex-girlfriend Megumi because he had to take care of the twins.

Nao Hayami

He lives in the orphanage and is the second oldest. He gets angry easily. He is in love with Shiharu but doesn’t tell her. He is very protective of her and is unfriendly towards guys he doesn’t like.

Akane Matsunaga

She is the twin sister of Aoi Matsunaga and is very affectionate and playful. She likes to eat a lot and is very cheerful and is impulsive.

Aoi Matsunaga

Aoi is the quiet twin and is more serious than Akane. Aoi wants to marry Shiharu and tries to get in the way of Seiji and Shiharu. He cries whenever he’s hurt or in trouble.

Takeru Miyakawa

He is childhood friends with Seiji and lives close by to the twins. He is in college and is very cheerful. He has two younger sisters Nanami and Mana. Mana is the same age and plays with the twins. He likes to visit Seiji often.

Rio Yoshii

She is Shiharu’s best friend and is very cheerful. She gets angry easily and is protective of Shiharu. She has a crush on Takeru.

Review

This manga at times got repetitive and I felt that I wanted it to have more moments with Shiharu and Seiji but the twins are so cute that it makes up for it. I wish that it showed more of their relationship after they got together but thankfully there is a side manga Life so Happy that shows the twins in middle school. It only has 5 chapters so far but it does show how they dealt with living their lives now that they are older. I don’t want to say anything else because it would be spoilers but there are some appearances of Shiharu and Seiji.
