I was wondering who the mangaka was, I didn't even try to search one going by only the name "Rei" it seemed an exercise in futility 😅 They did the Tales of the Abyss manga!

Meoto de Safari is about a young couple on safari in an alternate world filled with large creatures.

Ruka is the older, larger, and stronger of the two, is noted to be a powerhouse, uses a halberd for a weapon.

Geo is younger, referred to as a shouta by the author, uses a .50 cal sniper rifle, and has a little creature friend to act as his spotter.

Together, the two hunt these large creatures, seemingly in order to eat (at least some of) them, judging by Ruka drooling while shouting about crab while up to some jrpg dragoon shenanigans in one of the shared storyboards.

Hi! I think it's been a long time I heard nothing about amaburi :(

Yeah, there hasn’t been much for awhile. The last novel to come out was in June 2016, so over a year ago. I don’t think it’s abandoned however, just currently put on the backburner since the writer is involved with script writing for the FMP!Invisible Victory anime. He’ll probably be able to get back to devoting much of his time to Amaburi once this chapter is closed on the FMP! franchise~!

From the anime guidebook (which came out in English!) that covers the first season: the end had a few pages of an in-series AS magazine. This last page had some photos supposedly taken by characters (of possible staff of the studio? I think “SG” might be “Shouji Gatoh”).

The one by “SK” is probably “Shinji Kazama” and the pic of the Hind happens to be a submission from Gauron lol… not sure who the last two are from.

None from Sousuke but he doesn’t seem like the type to take photos of anything himself. He does, however, have two pages detailing weapons used in the series as “Sousky Segal.” Includes his preferred Glock 26 (which is a 19 in the novel). Fun fact—Glocks don’t have a safety switch for the trigger like most guns do. Hope he keeps that thing unchambered when he has it on his waistband!

Edit per reply: okay they DO have a safety feature, just not the same one other handguns do. Still, keeping it unchambered is probably a good idea if you’re an amateur and not a specialist.

El drama esta basado en el sexto volumen de la serie de novelas que fue lanzado en marzo del 2003, y todo el reparto del Anime original participa en el drama, con excepción de Nozomu Sasaki que dio voz a Yan Jun Gyu y que es reemplazado por Takayuki Okada en el drama. En la historia original, Sosuke Sagara es un soldado de élite que pertenece a la fuerza especial independiente conocida como "Mithril". Mithril es una fuerza militar que lucha contra el terrorismo en todo el planeta. Con tecnología muy superior a la de las naciones normales, Mithril interfiere en honor a la justicia. A Sagara, el segundo oficial bajo el comando Mithril, se le asigna el deber de proteger a una chica llamada Kaname Chidori, que asiste al instituto en Japón. Para llevar a cabo esta tarea, Sosuke pretende hacerse pasar por un estudiante de intercambio en el colegio de Kaname. En cuanto inicia su "rol" como compañero de clase, un complot para secuestrar a Chidori se pone en marcha.

La novela ligera original de Shoji Gatoh y Shiki Douji debuto en Septiembre de 1998 y contó con 22 volúmenes en total. Su primera adaptación a Anime para televisión se estreno en Enero del 2002 contando con 24 capítulos, desde entonces la novela ya ha tenido otras dos temporadas de Anime para televisión en 2003 y 2005, una OVA, y diversas adaptaciones a Manga.

Salah satu anime lawas Full Metal Panic akan kembali hadir dengan anime terbarunya berjudul "Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory". Anime bergenre mecha ini rencananya akan rilis di Jepang pada musin semi 2018, tepatnya pada bulan April 2018. Simak video promosinya berikut ini:

Sebelumnya sempat diumumkan bahwa anime terbaru Full Metal Panic ini akan tayang di Jepang pada musin gugur 2017, namum pengumuman tersebut telah dihapus. Beberapa waktu lalu akhirnya anime ini diumumkan kembali akan hadir pada musin semi 2018. Hal ini diumumkan pada perhelatan Anime Expo yang digelar di Los Angeles, Amerika Serikat

Seri anime ini diproduksi oleh studio animasi XEBEC dengan arahan sutradara Katsuichi Nakayama. Naskah ditangani langsung oleh Shoji Gatoh sang penulis novel Full Metal Panic!. Desain karakter dikerjakan oleh Osamu Horiuchi yang juga membuat desain karakter di anime sebelumnya dan dibantu oleh Aya Yamamoto. Takeshi Yoshioka menjadi small arms designer dan animation director.

Yu Kato sebagai pengarah animasi mekanik dibantu oleh Takuya Matsumura yang juga menjadi Prop Designer. The Continuing Day By Day

It’s abundantly clear how much of a video game geek I am, based on how much I’ve discussed and commented on topics pertaining to the gaming industry on this very blog (more like a severe lack thereof lately, but I am amending that now). I can discuss games until I’m blue in the face. However, gaming isn’t the only entertaining hobby I have. The other I have is one I’ve sorely neglected for over a year now; a hobby that has made my creative juices flow and my imagination run on overdrive from the inspiration I’ve drawn from it. That, my friends, is anime.

It took watching my favorite show of all-time, Full Metal Panic! and its two sequel series, over again to realize what a crime it has been to neglect such an enriching genre of entertainment. Now, I consider myself an anime neophyte. I haven’t really dug very deep, so to speak. Bleach sparked my interest over three years ago after a recommendation from a co-worker. It made for a strong entry point. I then took a recommendation from a good friend of mine to check out a well-known series called Trigun. Trigun cemented anime, for me. Its brilliant change in tone partway through the series, fantastic characterization, and intelligent plot that was ingeniously masked with pure humor early on showed me that anime wasn’t this “weird” thing I was unfortunately educated of at a younger age. Sure, anime does have its quirks and it isn’t for everyone, but even when people found it strange that I was suddenly watching anime, I began to embrace it.

It was a trailer on one of Trigun’s discs, though, that really changed the game. That ad was for Full Metal Panic!, the one series that has remain unmatched to this day by any other show I have ever watched. In a sense, not only did Trigun show me just how epic anime could be, but it also, in an indirect sort of way, introduced me to a series that would go down as a personal landmark and one of my greatest inspirations. I watched it for the first time just over three years ago, but over the past few weeks, I decided I was long overdue for a review of all three series, and surely, it was just the kickstart I needed to get me back into anime again.

The original Full Metal Panic! is a well-balanced series, with even doses of both chaotic humor  and engaging drama, as well as great action sequences and even an underlying romance that would remain a constant throughout all three series. Many people wouldn’t look at me and think that the concept of romance could do anything for me on any level. The truth is, romance can be an engaging element for me, if done right, and Full Metal Panic! does it through humor.

Sousuke’s and Kaname’s interactions are, a majority of the time, downright hilarious. The two opposites play off of each other in the most entertaining fashion. A couple that can make you laugh is easily the best kind. Perhaps the only real issue with the original Full Metal Panic! series that I can draw is that, early on, the dub hits some snags. Some lines are a tad forced, and Luci Christian, the voice of Kaname Chidori, takes some time to settle into her role. Later on in the series and through FUMOFFU and The Second Raid are where she really hits her stride. The small gripes aside, the original Full Metal Panic! was pure excellence from beginning to end, ceasing to amaze me with how well several genres could be balanced into a thoroughly entertaining series. The last story arc alone is worth individual merit, showing that this show isn't just for laughs, but can also deliver a tense and action-packed experience.

FUMOFFU, the spinoff series that's sort of counted as season 2, puts the focal point on humor and also stands, at least in my eyes, as having one of the most misleading openings ever. It makes the show out to be a pure romance series when it’s actually complete and total chaos. This was the series where I really started to get a deeper connection with Sousuke and Kaname. It concentrates solely on the everyday high school hijinks Sousuke gets into, dragging Kaname into them at the same time. It never gets old, and at times, the series is so downright hilarious that I would lose my breath during laughing fits. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard that consistently in my entire life, which is a true testament to how brilliant this series is. It’s comedy gold and was just as good watching it a second time as it was the first.

The true epitome of any form of TV show or movie that I have ever seen is the true second, and seemingly final, season, The Second Raid. Taking a decidedly darker tone, the humor is dialed down in favor of more drama, making for a plot that I never thought I’d see. Lines are crossed and characters are pushed into positions that force them to their limit. Kaname breaks free from her “damsel in distress” role, but even then, given all of the times she assists and even saves Sousuke's behind in the last two series, it’s tough to even put her in that role in the first place. Her evolution, however, is one that makes her all the stronger as a character, but also shows that, as strong as she is, like any other human being, she still needs that shoulder to lean on time-to-time and she realizes it.

Sousuke, on the other hand, is faced with an internal struggle. This gung-ho, duty-following soldier suddenly starts to crack, placing him into a role I didn’t think I’d ever see him in. When I really step back and look at The Second Raid as a whole, it’s really a story of Sousuke finding himself not as a soldier, but as an individual. A teenager who has only known violence and following orders all of his life now begins to realize that he needs to decide on his future and what he wants out of life, not what everyone else does. When he comes to this decision is where the series gets turned on its head in an unprecedented fashion, forcing both Sousuke and Kaname to undergo these evolutions. If there’s one plot device that has entertained me to this day, it’s the sudden fall and monumental rise of the protagonist. Final Fantasy IX did it when Zidane discovers what he truly is, but once he thinks he’s alone, his friends are right with him, allowing him to rise as a hero. This is what Sousuke goes through, and when he falls to his lowest level that anyone who knows Sousuke well would be shocked to observe, he rises back up for a truly spectacular final battle.

The Second Raid’s ingenious character-twisting plot, fantastic action sequences, top-notch writing, dub, and localization, and consistent quality throughout make it worthy legendary status I hold it to. I’ve watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Gungrave, and, as previously mentioned, Trigun. All of them are exceptional series. However, none of them, in my eyes, match Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid in terms of the emotional connection it creates between the viewer and the characters.

I will admit that The Second Raid does have its pains, though, but it has nothing to do with the quality of the show. It has to do with the failure to follow up on such an incredible series, as it finishes with loose ends begging to be tied up. As all three series encompass the first 5 out of 12 novels in Shouji Gatoh’s light novel series, there’s still a lot of story left to be told. Seeing as it’s been 8 years since the OVA for The Second Raid released in Japan (which is hilarious, by the way), the odds of a new season look more and more bleak with each passing day. For the past three years, I’ve checked Anime News Network every single day in hopes that a news article will pop up saying that a new season is coming. The only news I’ve heard over that time, however, is Shouji Gatoh explaining that unless he announces that the fourth season is cancelled, the project is still running. He has yet to announce such a thing, so we can say that it’s a very distant reality, at this point.

The fact that getting a fourth season is such an uphill battle is upsetting, but the fact of the matter is the home video releases for The Second Raid in Japan weren’t very good. Take this with a grain of salt, but I heard from some dark corner of the Internet that I can’t even recall that piracy was a factor, as well. If that were to be true, nothing could infuriate me further. I don’t think I’ve ever made it well-known on this blog, but I stand firmly against piracy and do not condone it in any way. It hurts every media industry far more than people realize, and, in this case, is exhibited as possibly killing the chances of a fourth season of an amazing anime series. Again, it could very well be internet ramblings, so I do have to take it with that grain of salt and not jump to conclusions.

This is where I decide to go next. The first five novels were localized stateside by Tokyopop before that ceased all production a few years ago. I’ve managed to procure novels 1, 2, and 4, but novel 3 has some rather ridiculous prices on it, especially for copies I can’t even see and have to rely solely on a text description. I have also managed to get my hands on the first four volumes of the manga and am currently hunting down the remaining five, though, like the third novel, the ninth manga has some price gouging going on. I won the entire Overload manga series just recently for a good price on eBay, so I’m all set on that front. I would then own every localized FMP! book that I know of. I really look forward to reading the light novels just to see how Gatoh-san originally envisioned the events of the anime. The manga covers the original series only, but, again, it’ll be interesting to see a different take on the material. Overload is purely humor, from what I’ve heard, so I’m expecting something more along the lines of FUMOFFU, except in manga form.

How do I finish the story, though? As in, everything past the fifth novel? Well, I could continue to wait until a fourth season is either confirmed or cancelled. Or, there is the Sigma manga series. These were never released stateside, but fans have conducted translations of all 19 volumes that take place starting with the events of The Second Raid all the way until the very end of the novels. I face two obstacles on this front, though, and those are that fan translations can get pretty ugly, as sometimes literal translations will be utilized, making for some very wooden and sloppy writing, and that reading manga online is a form of piracy, which is an indescribable amount of guilt I would have to get over.  My only other option would be to learn Japanese, which would be a fantastic skill to have, but is exceedingly difficult to do with computer apps alone (I’ve tried it once. It is quite challenging).

Regardless of what I choose to do, I do know one thing, and that is Full Metal Panic! has once again sparked my ingenuity and my interest in anime. I think my next series is going to be one that has recently taken Japan by storm. That series would be Attack on Titan. I don't think anything will ever match Full Metal Panic!, though. It holds a special place in my heart as the series that truly defined the genre, for me, and I don't think any series, no matter how good, can change that.

What IS Meoto de Safari?

Meoto de Safari is an action romcom manga with a mature air. It's illustrated by 玲衣 (Rei), known for her work on the Tales of the Abyss manga, with story written by Shouji Gatoh, known for writing the Full Metal Panic! light novel series. It follows the growing relationship of a young couple in an arranged marriage.

Geo, barely a man, is chief of his village and in need of a wife. Ruka, a young woman, is the one sent to marry him. She feels trepidation at the idea of being wed to a man she has never met before. Upon seeing him for the first time, she's relieved by his youth and his calm and respectful demeanor.

Geo's village has a tradition. Before getting married, the bride must walk along a path crawling with vicious beasts, trusting in her soon-to-be-husband to keep her safe. This harsh tradition helps to cement trust and loyalty early on in this young couple's relationship.

Meoto de Safari roughly translates as "(A) married couple (on) safari" - To make for a decent and snappy sounding title, I've translated it as Safari Spouses
