Cutting off my hair || 19/12/2016

Part of my new years resolution was to make a change for myself that I have been holding off from doing for a very long time. It took a lot of bravery, I'll tell you. I nearly left with my hair half cut off because I was going through quite a shock.

Let me explain before you think I was captured by some lunatic collecting my strands of hair for DNA research.

The date was December 19th, it was a Monday. Kevin and I were in the basement living room debating on a few different hairstyles I had picked the previous night. That's right, my fight or flight reaction was caused by a stupid haircut. But that's not all of it. This hair cut, was going to be a big change for me. Since the age of 14 or 15, I have constantly been dyeing my hair, and have yet to have a full head of natural colored hair.

Now on this 19th day of December, it was bright and warm. We were also getting ready to go visit my grandparents and run a few errands. The first one, being that terrifying visit to the hairdresser.

Correction, it wasn't terrifying, I've seen this hairdresser many times before, but I was emotionally freaking out. I was keeping myself together though, Kevin had no idea how nervous I was.

With my coffee in hand, we walk in and take a seat. I'm patiently waiting my turn. Fine, not patiently... I was a mess. Kevin had all the product bottles on the shelf next to him and kept grabbing some to smell. I don't know if he could tell that I was having a panic attack or not, but his distraction with smelling shampoos was getting on my nerves. “Stefanie.”

Finally, I'm making my way to the chair, I sat down and showed her a picture of various styles I liked. I'll have you know that I showed her some longer pixie styles. It was also somewhat easier to take in as she buzzed down the sides because the right side of my head was shaved from the summer and hadn't grown much since.

She than followed through with a large chunk from the back of my head and that's when my heart decided to throw it's tantrum.

I felt myself fade into this zone, where I could still see everything around me, yet my thoughts were the only thing I could actually pay attention to. I wanted to cry, yet I felt warm, and free.

I'll have you know, cutting my hair short, is something I have been wanting to do since I was in grade 10. I will add that my hair had been cut shorter in the past, back in the summer of 2009. I had terrible reviews from certain people.They asked if I was a lesbian, yet still in disbelief. I was mocked, teased and used as a comic relief. Although I did get amazing reviews from others, those who's opinion I should have really listened to. But, the negative overpowered the positive. Amazing how a few negative comments can overtake your mind, make you doubt your self worthy of change. So from that year on, I never cut my hair as short again.

So here I am, back to the moment I was present in, sitting in that chair, held down by a black cape that suddenly felt tight around my neck, realizing that I couldn't just run out and cry.

I HAD to do this, I just had to.

As I mentioned in my first post, 2016 has been my worst year yet. I've also had years in the past be somewhat terrible, and they have also taken quite a tole on me. This haircut was a large significance to my new transformation and I am eternally grateful for it. Once the rest of it was gone, and most of the dead, dye treated hair was gone as well, I realized that I am so much closer to the person I should and need to be.

I am still holding on to some turmoils, I am still grieving certain moments that I cannot yet let go, and with that, I am still holding on to some of my hair. My plan, for the next few weeks, is to find my strengths, as well as my weaknesses and improve on both. Than I may finally be able to shave my head completely. Finally let go of everything that's holding me back. Keeping me hostage from my growth. Finally be strong again.

Struktur des Haares

Dann streckt es sich aus, durchbohrt die Epidermis und kommt heraus. Obwohl sich die Haarstrukturen in anderen Körperteilen unterscheiden, ist die allgemeine Grundstruktur eng.

Das Stahlstruktur-Keratin

Innerhalb der Follikeleinheit in der Dermalpapilla bilden sich Haare, die sich von der Epidermis, der obersten Hautschicht, bis zur Dermis erstrecken. Dann streckt es sich aus, durchbohrt die Epidermis und kommt heraus. Das Haar entsteht durch die Sekretion von Zellen im Bulbus-Teil, der als Wurzel bezeichnet wird, und durch Multiplikation und Veränderung der Struktur. Es wird in Richtung Hautoberfläche gedrückt. Haarausfallgründe wie die Bildung von Haaren sind in diesem Abschnitt ebenfalls wirksam. Nämlich; DHT (Di Hydro Testosteron), das die Zellen schädigt, die die Produktion in der Haarwurzel bewirken, besteht aus Testosteron in der Talgdrüse, die die Wurzel schmiert. Medikamente, die die DHT-Bildung verhindern, verhindern auch die DHT-Bildung, indem sie die 5-Alpha-Reduktase in dieser Region hemmen.
