what do you think of the queen charlotte show
*deep sigh*
well.
to state the obvious: i think that no one in the bridgerton fandom would have minded this show if it weren't for the shitty treatment of the bridgerton series by shondaland. some may have loved it, some may have passed on it but in either case there would have been no hard feelings.
the problem is that at this point shonda is using a show that's supposed to be about the bridgerton family for her own OG characters, while screwing over the canonical protagonists.
it's one thing to make a spin-off about an OC. it's been done before. as a matter of fact when i first watched s1 (before i read the books and waaay before the disaster of s2) i remember being intrigued by the charlotte/george scenes. but combined with what's become of the main show? where instead of focusing on the bridgerton fam (spouses included obv) and expanding on them half the screen time is about trashy plotlines of the featheringtons and queen charlotte obsessing over some gossip rag writer? where the most beloved couple received #that treatment in s2 and kate was little better than a supporting character in anthony's story? well.
plus the whole social media thing is just the production provoking fans atp. what spin-off doesn't get its own accounts for promo?! why do they call it a bridgerton story when it has nothing to do with the bridgertons and there's not even a bridgerton character in it?
with that out of the way: my honest opinion after seeing the trailers is that it's gonna be a bingeable show. unlike s3, which i honestly believe is gonna be a snoozefest outside the 5 minutes kathony, frannie and benedict get, QC has a very strong female lead in india, the chemistry with the male lead is there and arsema’s lady d and young violet will probably steal the show too. the story looks compelling enough for it to be a big success.
there's the issue of the shitty plotline of king george marrying a black woman and “uniting two societies” but ig we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. at least im glad that from what we've seen so far it seems that black people have been an established part of the aristocracy way before the george/charlotte marriage (charlotte’s brother makes a comment about them coming from a european aristocratic bloodline or something and lady danbury is a lady) so at least it won't be like. king george marrying a woman from a socially ostracized minority and that magically bringing equality to the realm. then again i may be underestimating shondaland’s ability to fuck up and i’ll be eating my words. it's happened before when it comes to bridgerton predictions and will probably happen again.
but entertainment wise it shows that it'll be good.

ok so I know what I'm about to say is going to be unpopular but ... I wish they hadn't casted Regé-Jean Page. He was amazing, obviously, but I would have rather have had someone not as great but who committed to the show than someone who peaced out after one season.
I understand where you're coming from. At the very least I think RJP could make a brief cameo every season even if it's just to pop his head in but at the same time I sort of see why he wasn't fussed with hanging around. Yes it's an ensemble show and I don't know much about RJP to know if it's an ego thing but to go from being one of the leads to relegated as a supporting cast member for potentially 7 seasons without having as huge a story arc as the debut season... I can see from an actor's standpoint how he closed a chapter and story with S1 and didn't want to drag out or ruin Simon and Daphne's relationship. I understood how fans of the show were left disappointed by his absence, but having read the books and with Saphne not being one of my favourite couples, admittedly I was less bothered - had it been a spouse of another Bridgerton sibling no longer making appearances, I feel like I would see things a lot differently.
It would have been nice for him to have continued in the role, though with Shondaland apparently pushing for more drama in S2, had he stuck around I would have worried about the writers giving Saphne unnecessary drama just for the sake of it. I wonder if there had been a storyline written for Simon or if it would have been more of the case of him and Daphne teaming up to pull Anthony's head out of his arse to recognise his feelings for Kate, especially after the grief he gave them in S1. I would have loved to have seen Simon with his son, interacting with Lady D, spending time with the Bridgerton fam, and potentially giving Kate advice in how to handle his best friend. But also from S2, where I felt the writers were trying to spin too many plates at once, I felt like on the whole the character and story arcs weren't as focused as they were in S1, and I would have hated to have seen them waste Simon had he been part of it. At the very, very least I hope RJP might make a cameo in the final season, whether we get all 8 stories/seasons or not, just to have the entire family altogether.

Drunj!Der Yells About Outlander
Thoughts on Ep. 502
Watched this episode after winning Wynonna Earp trivia (fuck yeah, The Shit Tickets!) at a bar, put on by a queer af podcast, followed by going to see a queer af movie, and was all ready to get my Beauchamp fix... And it was like oh here’s a taste and a hint that we’re gonna end up in a story line similar to what we’ve already done multiple times, but now on to the menfolk.
For real though, this episode was like an OL greatest hits clip show. It had all the stuff we’ve seen before. A time traveler who wants to go home? Check. Rape PTSD? Check. A man being a dad to a kid who isn’t/might not be his? Check. That same man being the absolute worst? Check. Claire being reckless with future medicine? Check. Townsfolk questioning Claire’s medical knowledge in favor of the local Man of Importance? Check. Jamie trying to be on both sides at once? Check. A villain who seemed to have died the previous season and should have fucking stayed dead? Check.
We’ve literally seen all of this stuff before.
For a show that spent the first part of season two claiming to be a political drama and then last season claiming that they “weren’t political” I see we’re back to just leaning hard into politics that have direct parallels today.
No fucks left to give about the system Murtz is kind of my favorite Murtz. Like this dude spent his whole life living by a code and an oath and was fucked over by the system so many fucking times that he’s ready to just burn it all down. Curious to see how they walk the domestic terrorist vs. freedom fighter line with him for the rest of the season.
Got all excited about the bread title card because yay medicinal mold, but of course, the lead character was relegated to the B story.
Old timey medicine baffles me. Like the fact that bleeding someone was like a catchall remedy boggles the mind.
I feel rull bad for Mrs. Whoeverthefuck though. She tried.
Also, shit like this makes me be like, yo Claire, you sure you wanna stay here? Jamie’s really not all that and a bag of chips. But you do you, boo.
Speaking of Jamie, his hair looks really good. A thousand fruit baskets to the new wig person.
Lulz at Knox thinking the Gathering was about being loyal to king and country. Dummy.
Srsly though, Murtz Valmurtz is really getting under their skin. Is he like the *only* Regulator leader?
The convo between Knox and Jamie is literally as relevant today as it is in the 1770s. But yeah, the show IsN’t PoLiTiCaL.
The fact that fuckers think those at the bottom should be happy with their lot because “lol it could be worse” need to be punched in the face and taken out of power. Stat.
Also any time someone in power talks about civility as a reason not to rise up against injustice, I want to punch them. Because they deserve it.
I want to punch a lot of things.
This whole episode is very Les Mis, tbh.
Literalol at Claire covering dead guy’s face and not his body cavity before Bree comes in.
Aw Bree, why you gotta be a buzzkill? We were cheated of badass Doctor!Claire in S3. Let us have this.
Also, yeah, Claire, Bree’s fucking right. Which you’d think you’d know by now what with alL THE FUCKING TIMES YOU’VE BEEN CALLED A WITCH. AND NOW YOU’RE UPPING YOUR GAME TO LIKE NECROMANCY?!
Also the more she says no one will find out the more annoying it is because *clearly* someone *is* gonna find out and we’re gonna be back on the “she’s a witch!” “I’m not a witch!” “you literally have a dead guy in your closet!” merry-go-round again.
Today in most on-the-nose shots ever: How convenient that Marsali just happens to be doing some butchering right there, right then.
Petition for the show to go full Shondaland and just turn into a backwoods medical drama with Claire and Marsali, and all the others (cough the men cough) can fuck on off.
Tarring and feathering is like the old timey version of #AlwaysPunchAFascist but dialed to 11.
Oh the baggage behind Jamie saying redcoat man will someday wear his scars with honor that none of these fuckers know about...
Ok so clearly the English know that Claire’s a doctor so whenever shit hits the witchy dead dude fan, can we please have a quick resolution and not that dumb af “Claire goes to jail and of course her cellmate is a lesbian because Diana sucks at writing queer characters” nonsense?
Man Jamie is *not* subtle with this convo at the jail. Like Knox is right there and he’s just like hey buddies, I have people and we’re Scottish and y’know how we feel about protecting people vs. obeying the English.
I AM SPARTACUS FITZGIBBONS!
Aaand, naturally, the fuckwit preaching civility is the one to kill a man in cold blood. Rise up, motherfuckers. Rise up.
THANK FUCK ROGER IS A TERRIBLE SHOT BECAUSE IF THAT SQUIRREL DIED I WOULD LEGIT QUIT THE SHOW. RUN AWAY AND BE FREEEEEE YOU PRECIOUS LIL WILDERNESS FLOOFER!
Roger is, and I cannot stress this enough, the fucking worst.
He’s like look how shitty I am at being a soldier but then bitches about having to try to learn. And then he bitches about how dumb it is to shoot at squirrels as if being able to hit a squirrel wouldn’t make hitting a much larger thing, like a man who is shooting back at you, that much easier. And also, how the fuck does he think they get meat to eat? Shooting it, you twatwaffle.
And he’s like so fucking butthurt about being left behind. Like no shit, asshat. You’re bad at being in the past and have made no real effort and you whine a lot and are generally the worst. Of *course* you were left behind. Stop being emo about it and maybe actually try.
“He doesn’t respect me, Bree.” Yeah, no shit. Because you’ve done LITERALLY NOTHING to earn his respect. WHY ARE YOU SO TERRIBLE IT’S LIKE THEY’RE INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO MAKE HIM SUCK.
He also is like butthurt that his wife is a better shot than him when she gets the turkey he misses. How the fuck are we supposed to ship this. Ugh.
#BreeDeservesBetter
Oh Bree, sweetie, Jem won’t get hit by a car, but there are like eleventy million ways to die in the past. Just stick with the “you want to stay with your family” stuff.
Roger clearly doesn’t want to stay and is gonna pull a Fred and make Bree feel bad about wanting to all season, isn’t he. Fahkin’ doucherocket.
“I want to go but I’ll stay for you and look how magnanimous I am as I whine about it and make no effort to acclimate to the time.” Take your martyr card and shove it, Rog.
Shorter Jamie Fraser: “If you stand for nothing, Knox, what’ll you fall for?”
I’m already over Roger singing all the time tbh. Mostly because it reminds me that soon he won’t be able to do that anymore and we’re gonna be subjected to like half a season of him being more insufferable than he already is.
Wait, was Joan already born last episode? Or was there another time jump? Is Marsali preggers with baby #3? I lost track.
I love this scene between Claire and Marsali with my whole heart. Marsali especially.
CAN WE PLEASE JUST HAVE A WHOLE SHOW OF THESE TWO BEING ALL BADASS AND DOCTORY TOGETHER!?
Although, quick question, how fucking long is Claire planning to keep that un-embalmed body lying around in an un-refrigerated surgery/root cellar? Just curious...
Because you know someone’s gonna find it eventually and that’s gonna be a whole to do and I really need to stop being preemptively annoyed at plot lines that haven’t actually happened yet.
And with all this talk of plowshares and swords, I really am going to be singing Les Mis for days...
How long have these biddies been living on the Ridge? The fucking Leoch folks spent like a minute with Claire before they were like yep, she knows what’s up. These folks have apparently been here for months and are like loool, pass. They live in the fucking woods. You’d think they’d be more open to Claire’s brand of medicine.
Omg are they like the accidental antivaxxers of the Ridge?
#VaccinateYourFuckingKids
I mean, Bree, I think there’s some difference between Claire pretending to be a dude doc and telling folks to wash their hands and Otter Tooth.
Season 2 Claire and Otter Tooth on the other hand...
Ok so Jamie needs more men so that means next week is AHS: Beardsley Farm and then maybe (hopefully) instead of being like lol jk you can all go home, it actually goes right into the battle thing. Still not sure if they’re gonna do Roger getting hanged as the mid-season big thingy and then do the Bonnet nonsense in the back half or keep trying to do both of those at once.
Hey, Roger, pro-tip, next time you see Morag MacKenzie, maybe don’t fuCKING MAKE OUT WITH HER YOU FUCKING DUMBASS.
Claire’s totally right about how they should go back. Honestly, they should. But instead of talking with her like Claire is now with Roger, he’s just being all moody about how he’s bad at the past and wants to go back. You’re shooting yourself in the foot, broski.
Oh hey Husband the Quaker. And is that a fellow Quaker named Hunter with him? Are we gonna get Denny and Rachel this season?! Please and thank you that’d be great, I love them.
Murtz talking to his squad is full on Enjolras being like don’t worry fam, Marius will stand and fight with us. His place is there, he’ll fight with you.
The two very different but very similar ways Murtz and Jamie approach being Laird of their squads is fun to explore.
Bree lecturing Claire about changing the future by saving a few backwater hicks like Claire didn’t spend years trying to fucking change all of Scottish history is a bit rich. Like writers, we get it, you’re trying to be like oh snap, wait for the consequences of this bread!science! But like come the fuck on. We sat through all of season two.
“You’re a good dad, you know that?” Oh man, I’m getting that déjà vu about a shitty man getting kudos for being a good dad to a kid as if that negates all of his shittiness.
Oh hey, Bonnet’s back. Clearly we couldn’t have just let him die last season. Gotta drag shit on for longer than it has to. This is the [Outlander] Way.
If they were gonna keep him around as a villain, they shouldn’t have (in addition to all the other reasons) included him raping Bree. Jamie, Murtagh and Bonnet all making choices within and outside of the law to various degrees in order to make their living in the Colonies would be a really interesting contrast. But nope, gotta just go all in. BeCaUsE tHe BoOk.
Also I hate with the passion of a thousand fiery suns the Jemmy’s paternity stuff. Le sigh.
Remember in season one when the show was about Claire and she was in episodes for longer than 10 minutes?
I miss Claire.

There was an enty reveal years ago about how much KW and BY hate each other, but if you listen to KW talk, she always spoke of BY professionally. If she had spoken truthfully about BY or any of her "scandal fam" you know the media would have labeled her an angry black woman and shondaland would have pulled a mariah Carey (I don't know her 🙄). She's damned no matter what she did.
Yeah! I do not believe for a second that Kerry and BY share any love, and yet she only speaks positively of her. And totally spot on about “angry black woman” narrative

Fall Fusion 2019 (ABC)
In another month, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW are slated to unveil their primetime rosters for the 2019-20 network television season. Adding an unprecedented complication, this year, is the unresolved standoff between the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and ATA (Association of Talent Agents).
NBC and Fox announce their fall schedules on May 13, followed by ABC on May 14 and CBS on May 15. Bringing up the rear will be The CW on May 16.
The “bubble shows” for this season, which most likely won’t know their fates until May: Blindspot, The Village, The Enemy Within, Manifest, A.P. Bio, and I Feel Bad on NBC; For The People, Whiskey Cavalier, The Fix, Single Parents, and The Kids Are Alright on ABC; Madam Secretary, Bull, Ransom, Instinct, Life in Pieces, Murphy Brown, FAM, and Happy Together on CBS; The 100, All-American, Roswell New Mexico, and In the Dark on The CW; and Lethal Weapon, The Gifted, The Orville, The Passage, Proven Innocent, and REL on Fox.
So, as I’ve been doing for the past several years, here is the roster I have dreamed up for the broadcast networks when the Big Five trot out their autumn slates in a few weeks. I also include potential backup plans for the spring months, depending on which TV series fail or succeed.
When a show is picked up for the fall, it usually gets a 13-episode order – which can then be extended (usually via a “Back-Nine” order), if the show performs well enough. Some freshmen series fall short of receiving a full 22 episodes (usually with an 16- or 18-episode order). If the show stays far enough above the network’s average in terms of ratings and demos (the estimated number of viewers between the ages of 18-49, who are coveted by advertisers), it will most likely return for the following season.
As for the series that are held over to be midseason replacements: they usually get 13-episode orders, as well. Sometimes, a program that looks like more of a gamble might only get picked up for 6, 8, or 10 episodes instead. If those shows attain a significant audience when they step in to fill gaps anytime between November and May, they may also find themselves on the next fall schedule.
There are yet other TV series that are intended to be “limited series” or an “event series” – airing for a finite period of time during one predetermined juncture of the year – similar to many original cable television shows intentionally designed with shorter runs. Fox and The CW have gradually transitioned to more of a year-round format for their programming, and ABC, CBS, and NBC should follow suit over the next two or three years. For this reason, we may see more of the broadcast networks “time-sharing” different programs within the same time slots as they transition from winter to spring to summer and back to autumn.
After all, there are a limited number of available time slots on the primetime schedule. With the frequency of limited-run “event programming,” we should expect to see less of the traditional model where one solitary series occupies one specific time slot for nine months of original programming (followed by three months of reruns).
(All times are Eastern/Pacific; subtract one hour for the Central/Mountain time zones)
(New shows highlighted in bold)
Featured network for today’s column…
ABC
Sunday
7:00 – AFHV
8:00 – Until the Wedding (with possible Back-Nine) / American Idol (spring)
9:00 – A Million Little Things (Sep.-March) / American Idol (spring)
10:00 – The Time It Takes (fall/winter) / The Hypnotist’s Love Story (spring)
Until the Wedding (based on an Israeli-based serial of the same name) – which stars Olivia Thirlby of Juno fame – would be a good counterprogramming alternative to Supergirl, God Friended Me, and football; it would also be compatible with A Million Little Things, which could be searching for a new night to which it may relocate. The sleepy 10pm slot should go to British game show import The Time it Takes (hosted by Craig Ferguson).
Once American Idol returns in the spring, its lead-out could be The Hypnotist’s Love Story, a high-profile Heather Graham-led romantic drama (which seems to be the type of show that might return for shorter seasons of 13 episodes each season).
Monday
8:00 – Dancing with the Stars (fall) / The Bachelor (winter) / American Idol (spring)
10:00 – The Good Doctor (fall/winter) / Heart of Life (spring)
ABC will probably want to keep The Good Doctor firmly planted after Dancing with the Stars, to help build it up to someday move over as a Thursday night lead-off (once Grey’s Anatomy eventually retires). When The Good Doctor finishes up its 18-episode run, it can be replaced midseason by Heart of Life – an ensemble family serial featuring Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Jessica Stroup (90210), Katie Findlay (The Carrie Diaries), and Harry Shum Jr. (Glee).
Tuesday
8:00 – The Connors (Sep.-Jan.) / American Housewife (Feb.-May)
8:30 – Nana (with possible Back-Nine) / United We Fall (spring)
9:00 – Blackish
9:30 – American Housewife (Sep.-Jan.) / Rainbowish (Feb.-May)
10:00 – The Rookie (Sep.-Apr.) / NYPD Blue (spring)
With the spinoff success of The Connors, Katey Sagal’s new family sitcom Nana would be a great fit in-between The Connors and Blackish, with American Housewife bringing up the rear. Midseason, when American Housewife most likely leads off the night after The Connors finishes airing its second season of 13-16 episodes, the rumored Blackish prequel focusing on Rainbow Johnson should get a tryout behind its mothership series (I’d call the spinoff Rainbowish, as I assume it will feature regular voiceovers by Tracee Ellis Ross).
In the event that Nana flops, the Jane Curtin-led sitcom United We Fall would be waiting in the wings. If The Rookie has a shorter order of 18-20 episodes, the long-awaited sequel/revival to NYPD Blue could clock in for a 10-episode run (possibly even premiering during May Sweeps and running into the summer) in its original time slot from the 1990s.
Wednesday
8:00 – The Goldbergs
8:30 – Schooled
9:00 – Modern Family
9:30 – Hannah (with possible Back-Nine) / Happy Accident (spring)
10:00 – Triangle (with possible Back-Nine)
Supernatural mystery Triangle starring Mike Vogel (Under the Dome, The Brave) is a show I’m personally excited for...and it deserves a high-profile time slot during the most prominent juncture of the season. If Triangle was to fail or not receive a full back-order, a different one-hour drama could be subbed in here during the back-half of the season.
Now that Modern Family has officially announced its final season, ABC should utilize the post-Modern Family time slot to its fullest while it still exists. Hannah Simone’s (New Girl) buzzworthy single-camera comedy would be the strongest contender to premiere here. As a midseason replacement, Happy Accident (an offbeat family comedy led by Vanessa Williams and Matt Walsh) can be on deck.
Thursday
8:00 – Grey’s Anatomy
9:00 – Station 19
10:00 – How to Get Away with Murder (Sep.-Feb.) / New York Undercover (March-June)
I’d pretty much leave Shondaland Thursdays as is, for as long as ABC can utilize the Netflix-relocated showrunner’s remaining Disney-owned brainchildren. How to Get Away with Murder would presumably finish up its 15-episode abridged Season 6 in late-February or early-March, at which point the sequel to Fox’s 1994-98 cop drama New York Undercover can premiere following Station 19.
Friday
8:00 – Fresh Off The Boat
8:30 – Speechless
9:00 – Shark Tank
10:00 – 20/20
Since Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless have stabilized in their newfound one-hour Friday berth, they can probably safely remain their for another season.
MIDSEASON: American Idol (13-16 episodes), Match Game (16-22 episodes), To Tell the Truth (16-22 episodes), $100,000 Pyramid (16-22 episodes), The Bachelor (13 episodes), Happy Accident (8 episodes), Rainbowish (13 episodes), New York Undercover (10 episodes), NYPD Blue (10 episodes), The Hypnotist’s Love Story (10 episodes), Heart of Life (13 episodes)

Matt talks about the problem for the actors to say goodbye to actor Alfred Enoch. (Traduzione sotto)
“There’s the characters and the portrayal of the deep loss of a friend but additionally there’s the deep loss of a friend himself with Alfred and the fact that he’s not going to be on the show, at least in the same capacity he’s been … we’ve definitely built a close bond over these last couple of years so it was definitely very hard for us in that way.”
“Ci sono i personaggi e la rappresentazione della profonda perdita di un amico, ma in più c'è la stessa profonda perdita di un amico con Alfred e il fatto che lui non sarà nello show, o almeno non con la stessa funzione che ha avuto… abbiamo sicuramente costruito un legame stretto in questi ultimi due anni, quindi è stato sicuramente molto difficile per noi in quel senso. ”

Matt talking about Karla Souza for Huffington Post Mexico (Traduzione sotto):
“Karla is incredible, she’s an amazing actress. She’s very busy with her job and this is inspiring. We had a lot of interesting conversations, we like to talk about the things of life. When we talk for hours, for me, this is something magical.
Karla herself has taught me a few words in Spanish, she is surprised when I can say one sentence. She’s always nice when I try to speak Spanish. I’d like to improve my Spanish, so I could use it in the show business. Part of this serie and Shonda’s success depends on the fact that the shows involves and creates complex characters that are not necessarily “good” or “bad”. They are simply human beings who are searching for the best version of themselves.“

Old Interview: - Matt McGorry for 24 Hours. (Traduzione sotto). - Do you have a role model in terms of activism? 《I see Jesse Williams from Grey's Anatomy as a really incredible activist for racial equality. Just seeing that he's there in this world as well is useful for me to be able to see that it's not something that I had to worry about breaking brand new territory in addressing these issues for a Shondaland show. And obviously, Shonda speaks truth to power very much in her own way. That's definitely inspiring as well.》 - Hai un modello a cui ti ispiri riguardo l'attivismo?
