Part 1
There are a lot of songs in Given and each of them will find its own response in the soul. For example, I like Marutsuke, Bokura dake no Shudaika, Yoru ga akeru, Stage kara kimi ni sasagu, Uragawa no sonzai and... Perhaps I can’t remember the rest right away, but Fuyu No Hanashi will always take first place in the hall of fame. No matter how sad, tearful, painful it is and no matter how it hits the heart from the realization of what is hidden in it, it's undoubtedly beautiful. Centimillimental did a good job with it, coming up with heart-rending lyric, and Mafuyu - that is, Shogo Yano - performed it well, so that it became clear that this is a “screaming” song, as if a piece of flesh or heart is being torn from you (sorry, I'm exaggerating). It's a painful process, but it hurts all of us when we are forced to part with the past. Or a loved one. It hurts even more when this happens because of our recklessness and irascibility.
-- Spoilers are possible next --
This is the song I couldn't listen to calmly when I remembered how Mafuyu shared that he saw Yuki everywhere, but he wasn't there and how painful it was from the desire to give and receive forgiveness... I couldn't listen, but at the same time, I constantly put it on repeat for two weeks, so I almost learned the lyrics.
The song exists in two versions: the studio version and the anime version, where Mafuyu first goes on stage, singing with an echo. And you know? I like this version much more. It seems to me... It is more expressive, although there seems to be no particular difference between it and the studio version, but in the anime I was really touched by those "screaming" moments when you felt the tension with every cell of your body along with Mafuyu. How difficult it was for him to perform this song, admit his guilt... And let go. One of the strongest moments in the anime... Those who have seen it will understand what I mean.
A few days ago, I found a video of Shogo Yano and Centimilimental performing this song live. The only thing I couldn't believe was how this 30-year-old boy with a red guitar could realistically voice a 16-year-old teenager with a red guitar, as if Yano-san was 16!xD:”D Well, I should have gotten used to it by now, but... I'm still surprised.
In one of the comments under this video, someone wrote "Evil geniuses who make us cry." And it's true.
Someone also mentioned that the line "Then will you die for me?" said by Mafuyu in a fit of anger completely breaks you and makes you shed tears again, even if you know everything in advance.

Sobbing Because of Gay Animated High Schoolers? More Likely Than You'd Think!
Fuyunohanashi by Given
Genres: Anime, J-Rock (unsure of genuine subgenre, but it's rock and japanese so i'm sticking with j-rock)
Written by: centimillimental
---
trigger warning for discussions of suicide
back when i was deep in my anime phase in 2019, crunchyroll licensed the anime given, and after getting spammed by my friend telling me to watch it, i succumbed
only for given to be the first anime i ever cried watching, precisely because of this song
i learned to sing lyrics in japanese (a language i do not know) just to sing along to this song because of the way it made me feel, and it was the first japanese song i did this for.
fuyunohanashi (or fuyu no hanashi) translates to "winter's story" and it's about coming to terms with the death of someone who died suddenly and dealing with the grief that follows along with being left behind, using metaphors of winter and the cold to describe the emotions of grief. it's sung by the character mafuyu (which means winter) is singing this song about his ex-boyfriend yuki (which means snow) after yuki suddenly commits suicide after (MAJOR SPOILERS) having an argument with mafuyu, leaving mafuyu reeling from being the guilt of being unable to reconcile with yuki, thinking that it was his fault yuki committed suicide, on top of the trauma of finding yuki's body.
later, mafuyu meets ritsuka (meaning summer) and after hearing mafuyu sing, ritsuka begs mafuyu to join his band, where they eventually develop a new relationship.
the context of the story is important just because of how gut-wrenching the lyrics are. even in the english dub the song is still performed in japanese and even with only a subtitled translation the emotions are so raw that you can't help but cry. (it doesn't help that the performance is peppered with gut-wrenching flashbacks and devastating audience reactions either, but i digress)
i should note that in the anime that ritsuka plays guitar for the band so the sick riffs in the back (arguably the backbone of the track and the most distinct part aside from the vocals) are ritsuka just wailing on the guitar. the drums are also exciting, and at some points of the verses it's just the hi-hat and simple bass chords to highlight mafuyu's voice and raw emotion.
and oh my god mafuyu's voice. i barely have words to describe it. voiced by actor shogo yano, it is so full of emotion and audible grief that you'd think that the actor himself had recently suffered a devastating loss. at one point in the song he even screams (melodically, but still a scream), and it's such a painful sound that it was the exact moment i burst into tears.
mafuyu's english voice actor (brandon mcinnis) did make an excellent english cover, but nothing compares to whatever magic shogo yano was doing in the recording booth.
the whole song is just so raw. it's like someone bottled grief itself and let it loose on stage. at that point in my life i had not yet experienced the death of someone close to me, but this song single-handedly made me understand that kind of grief. it's just so visceral, both in sound and lyricism.
it's mafuyu telling yuki that he resents what yuki did to him and how up until this point he'd been unable to move on, and that even though he's just now moving on with his life he'll never forget yuki and what yuki meant to him. it's a love song, but in the past-tense. mafuyu will always love yuki, but is no longer in love with him (especially now that he has ritsuka).
also bonus, when i say "just now moving on" i mean that literally--mafuyu had no idea what he wanted to sing about and couldn't write any lyrics so within the context of the anime he literally improvised it on stage as soon as he got his feelings in order, much to the surprise of his band members.
there's also some specific things that don't quite translate over because of linguistic differences between japanese and english. when mafuyu says goodbye to yuki, he's saying sayonara, a specific way of saying goodbye that is quite formal and also has connotations of being a kind of final farewell. you say sayonara to people you might not be seeing again.
honestly you should really watch the anime to gain full context for the song
there's also a live action version of given but they changed?? the song?? for some reason?? likely because they couldn't hope to recreate shogo yano's batshit insane performance. it's not a bad song, but it's no fuyunohanashi either.
highly recommend if you feel like crying. in all seriousness it's for enjoyers of high-emotion and high-tension music. you'll like it if you listen to anime intros and centimillimental's other music. it's more uptempo than fujii kaze but it's got a similar level of raw emotion if that's what you're into.

Tsurune Character Songs Album Translations - Growing Up
Text of translation below cut
Our shadows side-by-side in a dusk-dyed town
Are days we take for granted
It’s nearly all changed since that time
But just as always, I'm by your side
You stubbornly try to shoulder everything
I have to support your bluffing back
No matter how much we clash
No matter how well our hearts understand each other
We surely feel like we can't give in
(That's so like us)
Because we don’t want to lose
Even if I feel in your back the reason I can take comfort
At that moment I knew the strength of your heart
Before we knew it, our elongated shadows
Both took on different shapes
Every part of us that’s growing
Strengthens the things they connect
Always pulling you by the hand so you won't stray
The answer we'd decided on is just like that day
No matter how much time passes
No matter how much we play at being adults
The two of us surely won't change
(That's so like us)
The doubts I've been harboring in my chest
Will clear up before I notice because you're watching over me
Honestly, I know that
Somehow we're similar in that we're opposites
I've been watching your gentle strength from by your side
The feelings we can't put into words
No matter how much they clash
No matter how much our hearts understand each other
Because they surely won't give in
(That's so like us)
Even if we keep our distance, I want to get over that someday
Our overlapping hearts cry out
"I don't want to lose!"

Tsurune - Amatsu Hoshi Matsuri Event
I attended the Tsurune seiyu event on Sept 3rd, both session noon and afternoon.
I'll try to write detailed reports here and I'll post some of the live reading drama on my privatter. Follow me on my twitter (angelic1408) and I'll add you to the list to view my privatter
I'll use seiyuu name instead of character name
Uemura Yuto (UY): Minato
Ichikawa Aoi (IA): Seiya
Ishikawa Kaito (IK): Kaito
Yano Shogo (YS): Nanao
Suzuki Ryota (SR): Ryouhei
Asanuma Shintaro (AS): Masaki
Ono Kensho (OK): Shu
FukuJun (FJ): Nikaido
Please note that EN is not my first language so it's hard for me to put my thought into words.
The event have 5 corner:
Opening
Talk Session (Noon theme: What scene do you want to see once again? Afternoon theme: What's scene that makes you respect your character)
Game Session (Noon: putting ring to a stick -anime S2 ep 13- Afternoon: Eating Takoyaki game)
Live reading drama Session (both session had different scenario)
Closing
For noon talk session, each seiyuu is asked which scene they want to watch again:
UY: Coffee can scene that Minato received from Fuwa during the joint-camp
IA: During vs Kirisaki, when Seiya keep missing the target and his back is being supported by smol Minato
SR and AS: Kazemai girls match
YS: Kazemai boys eating udon together. Yano-san thinks this scene is interesting because Kazemai supposed to train their sync, but even for eating udon, all 5 of them have different personality.
IK: Kazemai and Kirisaki match side by side
OK: All Sae-chan reaction. Kensho-san said Sae-chan is like a key person that glued the Fujiwara family. She kinda bring Shu and his parents together. Also the wish that Shu write in his Tanabata tanzaku is also revealed in this event.
FJ: Tsujimine practise scene
The game they play on noon session is throwing a ring into a stick (like in the anime S2 EP 13). It's last man standing type of game. The rule is they have to follow an instruction when throwing the ring.
As a practise, they can throw the ring normally --> only Yano-san actually managed to put the ring into the stick
For first round, the action is they have to throw the ring after they got cheered by the audience.
Only Yano-san managed to put the ring on the stick again. Kensho-san and Ichikawa-san missed the target, but they're being forgiven because at least the ring were in the board.
Yano-san, Kensho-san, and Ichikawa-san proceed to round 2. This time, the action is to get cheered by their name
Asanuma-san suggested to use the nickname when they were in High School. So for Ichikawa-san it's Ittchi, Yano-san is Yanoooon, and Kensho-san is Onocchi. Kensho-san and Yano-san proceed to Final
The action they have to do for the final is to throw the ring without seeing and both of them actually did not make it. So FukuJun picked up Kensho ring and put it manually on the stick, making OnoKensho is the winner for the game.
He get a mini kaiten sushi set as a present.
Here's the most awaited part of the session:

So, I promised to share one anime that captured all my attention and is definitely worth talking about? Let's go!
Four months ago, on the channel of one girl who makes anime covers, I saw a post with screenshots like these.
I found out what the anime was called(Given), what genre it was (shounen-ai, but believe me, there are plenty of intimate moments there), because I liked the boys, the draw style and the genre itself. However, I was warned that there... Adult themes are developed and there is angst. It didn't scare me, but it scared me😅
And so, in early January, I finally got around to this anime. In short and without spoilers, the plot is as follows:
High school student Ritsuka Uenoyama finds his classmate from a parallel class, Sato Mafuyu, in his own favorite sleeping place on the school stairs. An unsociable and strange guy with an obvious problem of self-expression, he always carries an expensive guitar with him, which he doesn't know what to do with, how to play and at the moment the viewer doesn't understand where it came from. It so happened that Uenoyama replaced the strings on someone else's guitar and played the first chord on it, after that, Mafuyu became interested in being taught to play the guitar.
Actually, this is where it all begins. Later it turns out that Mafuyu has a natural talent for music, as well as a very bad secret that weighs on his heart and soul...
I watched this anime and in each episode I was afraid of some kind of moment that I was warned about. When it came, the first time I couldn't listen to a certain song calmly, because it was so saturated with emotions... But I'll also write about it later. Having watched the season, a couple of full-length films and OVA, I still have the feeling that all the bitterness is ahead. Firstly, because I didn't read the manga. But I want to. Very soon.
Why did I like Given? This is one of the first, if not the only, anime where I liked absolutely all the characters. It was as interesting to follow the secondary characters as the main characters.
I admire how laughter and tears are mixed here, when one smoothly flows into the other.
And the most important thing is the music. And I'm not talking about the OST's, but about the fact that the entire plot is built on it. Moreover, I love guitars. I have an acoustic one, however, I don't have such a talent as Mafuyu, and I'm still a beginner in this business😅
The music for the anime was written by the band Centimilimental. And believe me, there is a lot of it, and it's all very good◉‿◉ Not a single one will leave you indifferent. They performed some tracks themselves, like the ending and opening, but most of them were performed by Mafuyu Sato as part of the Uenoyama’s band, or rather Shogo Yano - Mafuyu's seiyu. This is... 100% hit in the voice, in the image, where I once again admire the skill of the seiyuu. It feels like Yano-san really experienced all those feelings, emotions, anger, helplessness, loneliness, fear, constraint that Mafuyu experienced, reliably conveying all this with his voice in Mafuyu’s image.
And yes, now wait for posts with Given, because I have waited a long time to start sharing them!😜😆

I'm still recommending listening to the drama CD version. But I'm just more into manga and drama CD than an actual anime even though it's quite good too. I posted the song a few years ago once my drama CD copy arrived. Seiyuu who sings there is different because in anime there is Shogo Yano and in drama CD it's Saitou Souma. This is the post!
i wasn't obsessed with yorugaakeru when i first heard it(was focussing more on the dialogues in between). but I don't think any song has grown more on me than this one. it literally does give me hope during my dark days/when everything looks bleak. the moment where mafuyu says "it'll be okay" feels comforting and life changing everytime. i wonder if the song writers know that the song has reached people outside the fictional world too.
