Yoga
Subtle energy channels – Kundalini, Sushumna, Ida & Pingala
The origins
Thousands of years before X-rays and MRIs, ancient civilisations regarded the intricate workings of the inner body in a very different way. Across the East, holistic medical systems like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Tibetan medicine and Ayurveda understood that even though we can’t see them, there are countless channels, vortexes and layers of energy running through us. TCM refers to these channels of energy as meridian lines, whilst the Yogis of India first called them Nadis. If you’ve ever been to a Kundalini yoga class, practiced pranayama or visualisation, you may have come across these subtle energy channels before, but do you know how to work with them to elicit powerful effects?
Energy channels
It is said that there are over 72,000 subtle channels of energy running through the body. Whilst veins and arteries carry blood and oxygen, these invisible channels carry prana and Qi – our ‘life force energy’. The ancients understood that just as a problem within veins and arteries can result in physical issues, a blockage or deficiency within the Nadis and meridians can manifest as various physical, psychological and emotional imbalances. In recent years, researchers have even found that the meridian lines correspond perfectly to the lines of fascia – a connective tissue responsible not only for physical wellbeing, but that also has the potential to hold emotions too – think of it as holding ‘issues in your tissues’.
Within yogic texts, there are three channels of energy that can help to change our energetic state, and encourage a powerful energy known as Kundalini to rise up the spine to the top of the head – where the upper Chakras (powerful energy centres) are found – potentially resulting in a state of bliss and enlightenment. These three channels are known as Sushumna, Ida and Pingala. Just like the meridian lines, scientific research has also found that when we stimulate these energy channels through breathwork or other means, it can have a very real effect upon the mind and body too.
Kundalini energy
At the very base of the spine, we find our lowest and most primal base energy centre – Muladhara Chakra. Just below this point is said to be an abundance of potential energy just waiting to move. Think of this as the potential we have to feel our most powerful and vibrant, ecstatic and enlightened.
The yogis say that pranayama, meditation, mantra and asana practices can help clear the way for this energy to flow so that we can reach our highest potential in mind, body and spirit. This potential energy is represented in many texts as a coiled snake waiting to spring. This is known as Kundalini, meaning ‘coiled’ or ‘circular’, from the Sanskrit term ‘coiled female serpent’. It is also referred to as ‘Shakti’. When this powerful feminine Shakti energy is awakened through yoga practice, it rises to the top of the head to meet with the masculine energy known as Shiva.
Sushumna Nadi
Running up the length of the spine and all the way to the top of the head, Sushumna Nadi is the main channel of energy that the Kundalini Shakti rises up through. Translated as ‘joyful mind’ or ‘most gracious mind’, the name implies that when this energy channel is clear and flowing freely, we benefit from a happier and more uplifted mental and emotional state. Sometimes Sushumna Nadi is referred to as Brahma Nadi, with ‘Brahma’ representing the divine, absolute or a form of God. Some may feel that when experiencing states of ecstasy and joy, that they’re able to connect to their understanding of divinity or Godliness.
Along this main subtle energy channel are located the seven main chakras from the tailbone to the top of the head. These are: Muladhara, Svadisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddi, Ajna and Sahasrara. When the chakras are ‘spinning’ well and in a good state of balance without any blockages, the potential Kundalini Shakti energy at the base of the spine is free to flow upward along Sushumna Nadi. Meditating on the chakras, performing asanas to stimulate energy to flow through them such as twists, inversions and backbends, and practicing various forms of pranayama (breathing techniques) are all intended to cultivate a clear pathway for energy to flow. If you’ve ever been to a Kundalini yoga class, you may have also practiced Kriyas – a set of specific yoga practices intended to balance the chakras and awaken the potential feminine energy at the base of the spine.
Breathing through the nose
Pranayama involves breathing practices that almost always focus on breathing through the nose. This is an underrated yet incredibly vital ability we have. Its importance has become more widely known with the popularisation of yoga, as well as methods like Patrick McKeown’s Oxygen Advantage, and James Nestor’s book Breath in the last several years.
Humans have evolved to breathe through the nose, filtering debris and bacteria through the nasal passages upon inhalation, and enabling proper oxygen absorption. We’re also able to breathe far more efficiently, increasing oxygen saturation in the blood, brain and tissues, as well as impacting the nervous system. The very act of breathing through the nose itself serves to widen the nasal passages and improve breathing function. This is why those who suffer from respiratory issues often find pranayama beneficial.
Left or right nostril?
It isn’t just the simple practice of breathing through the nose that benefits us. The nostril we choose to breathe though can have a huge impact on our state of being too. The traditional yogic practice of Swara Yoga is a set of somewhat secretive verses on the movement, patterns and power of the breath. In his book Breath, James Nestor explains; “The Shiva Swarodaya describes how one nostril will open to let breath in as the other will softly close throughout the day. Some days, the right nostril yawns awake to greet the sun; other days, the left awakens to the fullness of the moon”.
The text states – and anecdotal studies show – that these rhythms of left and right nostril activation (known as ‘nasal cycles’) are shared by the whole of humanity, and are especially influenced by the activity of the sun and moon. Studies also show that the nostrils really do switch dominance throughout the day, usually in relation to how we feel emotionally, as well as our environment.
Balance your energy body with José de Groot
Using Nadi Shodhana and acupressure points to balance and clear the Yin and Yang energies of your body, this practice will calm an active mind, or wake up a drowsy mind, due to two different approaches to this Pranayama technique. Accumulated emotions, tension and fatigue may also be released, which can also be very healing

Yeah wahi
But it's so fun to see Vishnu and other male deities as her avatars as well
Shiva-Shakti the OG girlboss x malewife 🗿💅
One of the versions of Shakta myths says that Vishnu is Shakti's avatar
Does that.....
Does that make.....
Harihar cano- *gunshot*
Brilliant!
Also, If we follow that, then that makes Lokkhi Narayon weird, in other words, Lokkhi defaults to Durga's daughter

Shiva x Shakti the og it-couple of hinduism but D/S trope. They’re both switches obviously. Hear me out ok?
First of all, Shiva. He’s such a simp like dude keeps himself restrained with all the self control in the world (literally) for a reason. As a supremely most powerful god almighty guy he knows his absolute devotion and love for his soulmate would be a potential hazard to the rest of creation (don’t let the intellectuals of ye olde fool you this is the real reason why Shiva isolates himself from the society okay) and then Shakti as Sati waltzes in casually telling him to stahp with the self isolation and he did and then she goes off and self immolates and he’s on the brink of destroying the whole universe literally Krishna could *never*. No seriously gimme the names of gods who didn’t hesitate for even a moment before getting ready to destroy everything that has ever been known in the face of their sheer agony and heartbreak. I’m waiting.
Does Adi Shakti decide to give it a rest tho? Obviously not. Another reincarnation as Parvati this time. And then she does all those fasts rituals tapasyas etc etc for her beloved much simp so wow Parvati jeeez. Poor guy was in his cave meditating away like pls no I’m trying to deal with my grief don’t bothER ME (burns Cupid who was trying to amp up the pace of the Shiva-Parvati 1000000000000k+ words slow burn romance ooOps he should’ve known better one simply does not go around trying to shoot love arrows at the God of Time and Destruction jfc Manmadha you were raised better than that🙄). She got the guy at the end ofc. As if there was ever a doubt. Trying to delay the inevitable smh Shiva pls the entire universe knows how you’re like when it comes to your wife.
The way she’s usually depicted praying to him or sitting at his feet or by his side-basically submissive to Shiva? And in contrast you’ve got how Shiva’s depicted with Shakti as Kali? HE HAS LITERALLY ZERO FUCKS TO GIVE HE’S ALL STEP ON ME MY DEVI😩🙌🔥 Like I said, switches.
Over again, absolute simps for each other no restraint at all. Peak mutual unconditional love and devotion no one does it like them. Goals man, goals.
#‘pray for a husband like Lord Rama’ why would i pray for a husband to be like the guy who willingly gave up on his love for the good of the#society or some such when Shiva’s right there with the ‘mess with me I’ll forgive you mess with my wife i will demolish *everything*’#grandma you have such bland taste jfc#the way shiva/shakti have me on a chokehold oh gods#Shiva’s the numero uno with the biggest BDE in the multiverse that’s a fact#don’t get all flabbergasted if Mirabai could do what she did in the name of worship then so can i with my opinions#puritans dni#shiva#sati#parvati#kali#hindu gods#jaan rants#desi#desiblr

The Ardhanarishvara (Sanskrit: अर्धनारीश्वर, romanized: Ardhanārīśvara, lit. 'the half-female Lord'), is a form of the Hindu deity Shiva combined with his consort Parvati. Ardhanarishvara is depicted as half-male and half-female, equally split down the middle. The right half is usually the male Shiva, illustrating his traditional attributes.
Ardhanarishvara represents the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of the universe (Purusha and Prakriti) and illustrates how Shakti, the female principle of God, is inseparable from (or the same as, according to some interpretations) Shiva, the male principle of God, and vice versa. The union of these principles is exalted as the root and womb of all creation. Another view is that Ardhanarishvara is a symbol of Shiva's all-pervasive nature.

Ratan is not a human and they're soulmates (part 2)
More moments that made me think so or at least that he's NOT a normal human
Okay this has nothing to do with it but I just wanted to include it because it was cute and it gives context as it's the beginning of the scene 😂 (also I had the same reaction as Amala and it melted my heart ❤️)
"I can see more than just what's on the surface" That's for sure, he does know more than he lets on. But the question is, is he a Brahmin? or is he a divine being?
Again he's unperturbed as if knowing everything and just waiting for MC to realise, also now we know for a fact he carries the unknown within himself :0
HOW JUST HOW ON EARTH DID HE KNOW THAT MC THINKS SHE'S GOING INSANE?? YOO RATAN CAN YOU READ MINDS?? OMG
Ye, "simply observant" my arse, sir you either read her mind or you know her so well that you know what she's thinking (reincarnation trope again? :0)
AND THEN HE DOWNRIGHT TELEPORTED TOWARDS MC, I don't know but nothing of that screams human, sir who or what are you?? :0
And this last part just screamed SOULMATES!! It's like he was the first to wake up and to remember everything and now he's calling for his counterpart to wake up too. They keep mentioning masculine x feminine energy so what if Amala and Ratan are the divine feminine x divine masculine energies? (or they're related to Shiva and Shakti/Parvati/Kali?)
The fact that they keep mentioning something dark and dangerous emanates from him tho, reminds me of the duality of Lord Shiva who brings peace but also can cause destruction (this about Lord Shiva is something I read on Google, I'm by no means well versed in Hindu mythology so spare me if I say something wrong please).
(I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT Ratan)

Double-Sided Painted Banner (Paubha) with God Shiva and Goddess Durga, 1501, Art Institute of Chicago: Asian Art
In this dynamic, double-sided painted banner from Nepal, designed to be carried high over the heads of the crowd during a religious festival, the Hindu God Shiva dances on his bull, Nandi, who turns his head upward to look lovingly at his Lord. This may represent Shiva as Nataraja, Lord of Dance, who is often depicted dancing atop his bull in Nepal. The other side depicts Durga, Shiva’s shakti (energy), dancing on a white snow lion. The remarkably well-preserved painting is enlivened by the bold colors and vibrant textile patterns, the sashes flying out in all directions, and the swag at the top framed by flaring tassels. Large, striking flowers are scattered against the background. In his upper arms Shiva holds his traditional attributes the trident and the rosary (rudrakshamala). He holds a Buddhist stupa (burial mound) in one lower hand—an unusual attribute—while his other forms the vitarka mudra (teaching gesture). That a Hindu deity should hold a Buddhist stupa illustrates the non-sectarian, all-encompassing nature of religious devotion in Nepal. Kate S. Buckingham Fund Size: 95 x 71 cm (37 3/8 x 28 in.) The trimurti in Hinduism is sometimes referred to by HIndus as the trinity of the Hindus. But the trimurti also becomes a quaternity in Hinduism. I have seen different examples for the transcendent fourth. I have read a book that described that the trimurti was a quaternity when the Mother Goddess was added. Another example is, those who worship Surya, the Sun God, see Surya as the transcendent fourth part of the trimurti. For the Surya worshippers, Surya encompasses the previous three deities in the trimurti. They say that the other three Gods are manifestations of Surya
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trimurti
The Quaternity for Surya worshippers in relation to the Hindu trimurti
Surya is Brahma in the morning
Surya is Shiva in the evening
Surya is Vishnu in the afternoon

There are 16 stages of life in Hinduism. These are the 16 Samskaras. http://www.vmission.org.in/hinduism/samskaras.htm
Indologist Jan Gonda has identified 16 steps (shodasha upachara) that are common in all varieties of puja:[27]
Avahana (“invocation”). The deity is invited to the ceremony from the heart.
Asana. The deity is offered a seat.
Padya. The deity’s feet are symbolically washed.
Water is offered for washing the head and body
Arghya. Water is offered so the deity may wash its mouth.
Snana or abhisekha. Water is offered for symbolic bathing.
Vastra (“clothing”). Here a cloth may be wrapped around the image and ornaments affixed to it.
Upaveeda or Mangalsutra. Putting on the sacred thread.
Anulepana or gandha. Perfumes and ointments are applied to the image. Sandalwood paste or kumkum is applied.
Pushpa. Flowers are offered before the image, or garlands draped around its neck.
Dhupa. Incense is burned before the image.
Dipa or Aarti. A burning lamp is waved in front of the image.
Naivedya. Foods such as cooked rice, fruit, clarified butter, sugar, and betel leaf are offered.
Namaskara or pranama. The worshipper and family bow or prostrate themselves before the image to offer homage.
Parikrama or Pradakshina. Circumambulation around the deity.

According to the Upanishads the self has 16 parts.
“Lastly, Sukesa approached the sage and said: ‘Holy sir, Hiranyanabha, prince of Kosala, once asked me this question: ““Sukesa, do you know the Self and his sixteen parts?”” I replied, ““I do not. Surely, if I had known them, I should have taught them to you. I will not lie, for he who lies perishes, root and all.”” The prince silently mounted his chariot and went away. So now I ask of thee, Where is the Self?’” (Prashna Upanishad 6:1).

According to many Hindus, like the Hare Krishna, Krishna originally had two quadruple expansions. According to these Hindus, Krishna is the supreme God. The two quadruple expansions are similar to the gnostic notion that in the beginning was two tetrads.
https://www.facebook.com/Knowyourgod/posts/501900056583733:0
First quadruple expansion
Karanadakashayi Vishnu [Maha-Vishnu]
Kshirodakashayi Vishnu [the Supersoul in each individual]
Garbhodakashayi Vishnu [the expansion in each universe]
Sesha, also called Seshanaga
These four create the material cosmic manifestation.
Krishna then expands himself into four forms. These four forms experience pastimes in Vrindavan. When studying Hare Krishna I would watch cartoons on the pastimes of Krishna. The cartoons consisted of these four characters, who are four forms of Krishna.
Krishna
Pradyumna
Balarama
Aniruddha
The second quadruple expansion are present in the infinite vaikuntha planets
Vasudeva- expansion of Krishna

The Vedic Priesthood consists of 16 members in four groups of four. Four groups of four is the quadrant model. The 16 members are four chief priests and their assistants.

The hotṛ was the reciter of invocations and litanies. These could consist of single verses (ṛca), strophes (triples called tṛca or pairs called pragātha), or entire hymns (sukta), drawn from the ṛgveda. As each phase of the ritual required an invocation, the hotṛ had a leading or presiding role.[citation needed]
The udgātṛ was a chanter of hymns set to melodies (sāman) drawn from the sāmaveda. This was a specialized role in the major soma sacrifices: a characteristic function of the udgātṛ was to sing hymns in praise of the invigorating properties of soma pavamāna, the freshly pressed juice of the soma plant.[citation needed]
The adhvaryu was in charge of the physical details of the sacrifice (in particular the adhvara, a term for the Somayajna). According to Monier-Williams, the adhvaryu "had to measure the ground, to build the altar, to prepare the sacrificial vessels, to fetch wood and water, to light the fire, to bring the animal and immolate it," among other duties.[citation needed] Each action was accompanied by supplicative or benedictive formulas (yajus), drawn from the yajurveda. Over time, the role of the adhvaryugrew in importance, and many verses of the ṛgveda were incorporated, either intact or adapted, into the texts of the yajurveda.[citation needed]
The brahman was the reciter of hymns from the atharvaveda who was largely silent and observes the procedures and uses Atharvaveda mantras to 'heal' it when mistakes have been made.
With the hotṛ:
the maitrāvaruna
the acchāvāka
the grāvastut (praising the Soma stones)
With the udgātṛ:
the prastotṛ (who chants the Prastâva)
the pratihartṛ ("averter")
the subrahmanya
With the adhvaryu:
the pratiprasthātṛ
the neṣṭṛ
the unnetṛ (who pours the Soma juice into the receptacles )
With the brahman:
the brāhmanācchamsin
the agnīdh (priest who kindles the sacred fire)
the potṛ ("purifier")
The Hindus have a four caste system
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste_system_in_India
Brahmins (priestly people)- mental. The first square is mental and good.
Vaishyas (artisans, merchants, tradesmen and farmers)- These are the doers.
Kshatriyas (also called Rajanyas, who were rulers, administrators and warriors). Homeostasis. The second square maintains order and structure. Rulers and administrators organize and order. Warriors protect.
Shudras (labouring classes).
The fourth caste was seen as different
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/twice-born
The three upper orders were “distinguished from the shudras”.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvija
The Brahmins, the Kshatriyas, and the Vishyas are considered “twice born” but the shudras are not.
http://eighttwosix.blogspot.com/2010/03/indias-caste-system-socially-useful.html
Again the quadrant pattern in the caste system is fulfilled in that the first three castes are different from the fourth. Hindus say that they have a four caste system. There is a fifth element that is so different that it is not even really considered a caste. The fifth is always questionable and ultra transcendent. I described how Empedocles said that fire is the fourth different element. But fire still associates with air, water and Earth. The fifth, ultra transcendent element, aether, does not even interact with the first four. It is not even connected. The same holds true for the untouchables.
Ramakrishna had a teaching about four wise men and an elephant. The four wise men touched different parts of the elephant, and thought the elephant was the aspect they touched. Ramakrishna says that religion is like the elephant, and different religions understand a different part of the whole
One touched the leg of the elephant, and said, "The elephant is like a pillar."
The third touched the belly, and said, "The elephant is like a big jar."
The second touched the trunk, and said, "The elephant is like a thick stick or club."
The fourth touched the ears, and said, "The elephant is like a winnowing basket."

I have spoken to Hindus, and researched the chakras, and they are a four plus three pattern. The first four are different form the next three.
The four petals are said to represent the four elements. The four petals are also thought to represent the four vrittis
greatest joy
delight in controlling passion
natural pleasure
blissfulness in concentration
The four petals are also thought to represent the four goals of a Hindu, dharma (psycho-spiritual longing), artha (psychic longing), kama (physical longing) and moksha (longing for spiritual liberation.
The Vishuddha chakra is the fifth chakra. The chakra has 16 petals.

Square breathing involves inhaling for four seconds, holding for four seconds, exhaling for four seconds, and then holding the breath out for four seconds and continuing. I attended a meditation event where the instructor had the class do square breathing some time last year. I did not even realize that what we were doing was quadrant oriented, until I looked it up afterwards and realized that the four components of the breath was a quadrant.

The stanzas in an "ashtakam" are a rhyming quartet with four lines, i.e. end lines rhyme as a-a-a-a. Thus, in an ashtakam generally thirty-two lines are maintained. All these stanzas follow a strict rhyme scheme. The proper rhyme scheme for an astakam is: a-a-a-a/b-b-b-b….. (/ represents a new stanza).
The conventions associated with the ashtakam have evolved over its literary history of more than 2500 years. One of the best known ashtakam writers was Adi Sankaracharya, who created an ashtakam cycle with a group of ashtakams, arranged to address a particular deity, and designed to be read both as a collection of fully realized individual poems and as a single poetic work comprising all the individual ashtakams. He wrote more than thirty astakams in stuti [dedication] to various deities.

King Vajra then had 16 idols of Krishna and other gods carved from a rare, imperishable stone called Braja and built temples to house these idols in and around Mathura so as to feel the presence of Lord Krishna. The four presiding idols of Braja Mandala are Sri Harideva of Govardhan, Sri Keshava Deva of Mathura, Sri Baladeva of Baladeo, and Govindaji of Vrindavan. There are two Naths—Sri Nathji, who were originally at Govardhan and are now in Nathdwara, Rajasthan and Sri Gopinath, who is now in Jaipur. The two Gopals are Sri Madana Mohan, who is now housed at Karoli Rajasthan, and Sakshi Gopal, who is now moved to town of Sakshi Gopal, Orissa, near Puri. There are 16 squares in the quadrant model.
The show Information Please would have a transcendent fourth guest panelist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_Please
Panel regulars included writer-actor-pianist Oscar Levant and newspaper columnists and renowned wits and intellectuals Franklin P. Adams and John Kieran. All the panelists were well-versed in a wide range of topics, though each had a specialty. Music and filmquestions were often addressed to Levant. Adams was well known for his mastery of poetry, popular culture and Gilbert and Sullivan. Kieran was an expert in natural history, sports and literature. A typical question would have three or four parts and would require the panelists to get a majority of the questions right, lest they lose the prize money.
The show would always have a fourth guest panelist, usually either a celebrity, a politician or writer. Guest panelists included Fred Allen, Leonard Bernstein, Boris Karloff, Clare Boothe Luce, Dorothy Parker, S. J. Perelman, Sigmund Spaeth, Rex Stout, Jan Struther, Deems Taylor, Jackie Robinson, Alexander Woollcott, George S. Kaufman, Ruth Gordon, Orson Welles, Basil Rathboneand a very young Myron "Mike" Wallace.
A variation of Information Please, this time a program devoted exclusively to music with the same four-member panel format, became popular when it was televised in Los Angeles in 1953. After two years of local success, Musical Chairs became a summer replacement series on NBC Television. The Bill Leyden-hosted game show lasted eleven weeks on the national airwaves.

To relive the blocked energies, centre of existence need to be balanced for well-being and better life. Our living place consists of five elements. Space which is the most important of all the five elements.
Air is governing element of North-west corner while fire is assigned the South-east because of its aggressive nature. Water is an element of North-east and earth is assigned with South-west. Likewise the human body is a crafted frame having an order of five elements called chakras which is balanced by external elements. The elements of living place need to be balanced akin we balance body’s elements with external material such as food and meditation.
Vastu Energy Balance Imbalance of elements can be corrected by the most subtle & higher element- space while defects in native place can be balanced or rectified using Vastu tools like wind chimes, energy pyramid and crystals. These Vastu tools helps rectifying negative energies and try subtle the ambience with positive prana. Body prana can be instilled by correcting chakras that are responsible for our day to day functions. In such way external prana of cosmos or dwelling place have to make lively by creating balance with energy elements of Vastu.

A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, literally "circle") is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe.[1] In common use, "mandala" has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.
The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Each gate is in the general shape of a T. Mandalas often exhibit radial balance.

The 12 Jyotirlinga of India
Practice of pilgrimage is common from the ancient days and is still growing considerably. India is the birthplace of four of the world's major religions- namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. In India Hindus call the sacred places to which they travel tirthas, and the action of going on a pilgrimage tirtha-yatra. Together with tourism it has grown considerably among the travellers both domestic and international.
1. Kedarnath in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand
2. Vishwanath in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
3. Baba Baidyanath in Deoghar, Jharkhand
4. Mallikarjuna in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
5. Ramanathaswamy in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu
6. Bhimashankar in Maharashtra
7. Trimbakeshwar in Nashik, Maharashtra
8. Grishneshwar in Ellora, Maharashtra
9. Omkareshwar in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh
10. Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
11. Somnath in Gir Somnath, Gujarat
12. Nageshvara in Dwarka, Gujarat
Kedarnath Jyotirlinga: Among the 12 Jyotirlinga the Kedarnath temple is located in the highest of all at 3500 m above sea level in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and is open only from April (Akshaya Tirtha) to November (Karthik Purnima). Rest of the months the deities carried down and is worshipped at Ukhimath. The shrine is located at a distance of 14 kms from approachable road. From here pilgrimage visiting has to trek or take Pony ride, Pithu and Palki. Also the shirine can be reached by Helicopter services operated by many operators. According to Hindu legends, the temple was initially built by Pandavas, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga s, the holiest Hindu shrines of Shiva.
Kashi Vishwanath Temple: This temple is located in the Ancient city of India Varanasi or Varanas on the western holy bank of mighty river Ganges. The main deity is known by the name Vishvanatha or Vishveshvara meaning Ruler of The Universe. Varanasi city is also called Kashi, and hence the temple is popularly called Kashi Vishvanath Temple. Its name originally was Vishveshvara (broken down Vishwa: Universe, Ish: Lord; Vara: Excellent) or Lord of the Universe.
Baba Baidhyanath Dham: Located in Deoghar Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples complex. According to Hindu beliefs, the demon king Ravana worshipped Shiva at the current site of the temple to get the boons that he later used to wreak havoc in the world. Ravana offered his ten heads one after another to Shiva as a sacrifice. Pleased with this, Shiva descended to cure Ravana who was injured. As he acted as a doctor, he is referred to as Vaidhya ("doctor"). From this aspect of Shiva, the temple derives its name.
Mallikarjuna Jyotirliga: Mallikarjuna of Srisailam is located in Andhra Pradesh state dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parwati. The temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga and the Shakti Peethas of goddess Parvati. This is one of the three temples in India in which both Jyotirlinga and Shakti Peeth worshipped.
Shri Ramanathaswamy: Located in Indian state of Tamil Nadu and located on Pamban Island connected by the famous Pambam Bridge. The temple is also considered to the main part of Char Dham the other being Kedarnath, Puri and Dwarka.
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga: The Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple is located around 110 kms from Pune. The region is also the source of Bhima River a tributary of River Krishna. The temple is built in a graceful manner. It is believed that the ancient shrine was erected over a Swayambhu Lingam (that is the self-emanated Shiva Lingam). It can be observed that the Lingam is exactly at the centre of the floor of the Garbhagriha (the Sanctum Sanctorum) of the temple. Intricate carvings of divine beings, interspersed with human figurines adorn the pillars and the doorframes of the temple. Scenes from mythology find themselves captured in these magnificent carvings.
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga: The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple is located 28 kms from Nashik city and the origin of sacred Godavari River is near to here. Kusavarta, a kunda (sacred pond) in the temple premises is the source of the Godavari River, the longest river in peninsular India. The temple has three lingams (an iconic form of Shiv) representing Shiv, Vishnu and Brahma. The temple tank is called Amritavarshini, which measured 28 m (92 ft) bu 30 m (98 ft). There are three other bodies of water, namely, Bilvatheertha, Viswananthirtha and Mukundathirtha.
Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga: The Word Grishneshwar denotes "Lord of Compassion" located in Ellora of Maharashtra state about 32 kms from Aurangabad. This pilgrimage site is located in Ellora (also called Verul), less than a kilometer from Ellora Caves – a UNESCO World Heritage site. This 240 ft x 185 ft temple is the smallest Jyotirlinga temple in India. Halfway up the temple, Dashavataras of Vishnu are carved in red stone. A court hall is built on 24 pillars. On these pillars, there are carvings summarizing various legends and mythologies of Shiva.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: The Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple is located on Omkar Mountain and Island in the mid of Narmada River. There are two main temples namely Omkara and Amareshwar located in the Island and south bank or River Narmada on the main land. The temple is situated in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga:The most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva is located in Ujjain the ancient city of Madhya Pradesh and is about 56 kms from Indore. The Mahakal dominates the life of the city and the people living here. The shrine is also revered as one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas. The idol of Mahakaleshwar is known to be Dakshinamurthy means facing South which is unusual. This Jyotirlinga is said to be 'swayambhu' (self-manifested) that obtained its 'Shakti' (power) from within itself, unlike other lingams that were established ritually by chanting 'mantra'.
Somnath Jyotirlinga: The temples of Gold and is considered to be the first site for Darshan was destroyed numerous times by Mughal's and rebuilt 16 times. Temple is located in the Westernmost part of India and lies in the longitude of no lands from temple seashore to Antarctica.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple: The Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple is located between the Dwarka City and Beyt Dwarka Island. It is enshrined by one of the 12 swayambhu (self-existent) Jyotirlinga s in the world, in an underground sanctum. A 25 m tall statue of a sitting Lord Shiva and a large garden with a pond are major attractions of this rather serene place. Some archaeological excavations claim five earlier cities at the site.
