The little mouse was finally noticed. A woman directly across where Sedona sat, blatantly staring at his chest. Neither had anything to say.

"Just how it goes. Knock on a door, get paid, get out."

From York Street to Herald Square took no time at all on the F train. From there, they would walk, - that was to say, he would do all the walking - flowing with the crowd spilling out from the station, looking as unremarkable as one could in a city this size.

He reached into his coat pocket to offer little scritches to her forehead.

"You good, honey cakes?"

Echo didn’t answer immediately, letting the question hang for a moment as a few names flickered through her mind. Erosa. Fenris. Zenra. Tasha. Lucy.

Brief images followed—shimmering scales on a young man’s cheeks, a humanoid mouse adjusting his glasses, a horned figure with a sly grin, a sleek, metallic being tinkering away in a shop, and a woman who looked like she was made of porcelain.

A few, she replied softly.

Would she ever see them again? Were they even alive? Erosa, maybe—and Lucy with her sisters. The rest... best not to dwell. Homesickness was a heavy thing to carry. The little mouse shook her head as if dismissing the thoughts as she looked back up at Sed.

Mm. Why we playin’ ding-dong ditch?
