The man hadn't given God a lot of positive thought since July, 1991. In fact, most if not all in His regard had been nasty, vindictive thoughts. Why him and not his mother. Why at all. Why, why, why.

Was this a gift? Absolutely not. Couldn't have been. No way. He had sunk his blade into too many throats to be granted any accolades.

But her lips were ribbon candy. She wanted him, no strings attached. She fit so perfectly in his arms. That was his favorite thought. She fit. Those strong and dainty arms around his neck, he had no choice but to carry her by her waist.

She could touch as she saw fit. She could play with his lips, breathe his scent, and card her fingers through his hair.

From night one, he had hated the word master. He was no more her master than he was a divine being. What they were had no name. Nothing he could articulate with her intoxicating and relentless presence occupying his good sense.

"Babygirl," he managed, breaking their kiss into tiny pecks. "We gotta go." But was he putting her down? Fuck no.

And request she did. Her gaze had drifted off, but the weight of lingering eyes drew her back. She looked over, fingers absently brushing through her hair. “What do you think?”

Like magnets, they were never apart for long. This time, his hands framed her face, tilting her head up until their eyes locked. A shiver ran down her spine as her fingers tightened against his shirt, her body instinctively leaning into his pull.

The offer was accepted, rising to her toes to meet his lips. Her free hand found its place along the side of his face, holding him there. This close and she could pick up the faint notes of hops and fresh earth that clung to him. It was comforting, familiar—like home.

The kiss was soft, tentative, as though testing the waters. Yet even as he pulled back, she didn’t, unwilling to break the moment.

She shook her head.

“No.”

Emboldened, her thumb brushed against his lower lip, a quiet challenge. Before he could respond, she leaned in again, stealing another kiss, this one with more confidence. Her arms slid around his neck, drawing him closer.
