With a two-hour runtime, I was worried that the Shirobako Movie wasn't going to hold my interest. However, it was more entertaining than expected. Though, I was also playing Pokémon TCG Pocket at the same time.

Random anime, summarized badly (stolen from my Facebook Memories):
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas: a movie that contains absolutely no cannibals, zombies, etc.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: teen angst, with giant robots
FLCL: tween angst, with robots of various sizes that burst out of the main character's head in ways that might remind the viewer of other things going on in a tween's body
Gurren Lagann: We don't have time for teen angst in our increasingly growing robot anime, it's about to get MANLY
Promare: like Gurren Lagann, with gay firefighters
Kill La Kill: Wearing clothing is fascist, join the nudist anarchist rebellion!
Fire Force: Takes the term "fire fighter" rather more literally than usual
Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl: Well, I suppose there are *weirder* ways of getting free gender reassignment surgery
Ouran High School Host Club: It's about teenage prostitution! Sorta. Not really.
Cowboy Bebop: episode antagonists include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from "Game of Death," Cruella DeVille as an ecoterrorist, a senile old guy who likes to play chess, The Unabomber with a teddy bear theme, a bored computer with an interest in pre-Columbian South American art, Marshall Applewhite as an online avatar and Baron Harkonnen if he was also the Joker.
Outlaw Star: one episode revolves around an alien cactus who uses its mental powers to force people to eat inferior ice cream.
Trigun: why don't more shows involve insurance agents trying to deal with the fallout of your typical shonen action nonsense?
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Just because a critter is cute and says he can turn you into Sailor Moon doesn't mean you should trust him
Welcome to the NHK: even if both you and all of your friends are genuinely messed up toxic people, hanging out together is still probably better than not
Genshiken: If you have ever self-identified as a nerd, geek, or similar term, you either know multiple people who will remind you of characters in the show, or you ARE one of the characters in this show
Shirobako: boy, making anime sure is stressful and hard!

i love ppl who rip n encode n upload movies online especially when they do so well n see to feel pride in their craft look at this shit bout this rebellion torrent i found:
2.0 and 5.1 audio included. There is an alternate honorifics track in this release. Set your media player to play “enm” language tracks by default to automatically play honorifics tracks. It turns out that Aniplex, a major anime publisher, has been intentionally sabotaging the quality of many of its Blu-Rays for more than a decade. Though it doesn’t seem like the Monogatari series has been affected, high-profile shows like Kill la Kill, Lycoris Recoil, Promare, Haruhi, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Fate/Zero, Fate Stay/Night: UBW, Fate literally/everything/else, the Shirobako movie, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Soul Eater, and Steins;Gate contain scenes where the quality has been reduced for no good reason, particularly the first three anime in the list. The only way to fix this is to use an alternate source like Crunchyroll (which doesn’t always work that well because the scenes with this damage often have a high bitrate) or a non-US, non-JP Blu-Ray. This movie, too, is affected by Aniplex’s shenanigans, so the German Blu-Ray was used as an alternate source. (The Italian Blu-Ray was a copy of the JPBD.) This was principally used to replace the chroma in many scenes, with MTBB having better colors than the JPBD in comps 03-06 below, for example. Comp 28 is about as bad as it gets. About 20% of the movie is affected. But the German Blu-Ray has all kinds of artifacting in high-motion scenes, so it normally was not worth it to use it for luma. The chroma replacement was handled automatically, with scenes alternating between the JP and GER BDs depending on which source had stronger edgemasks for chroma. You can see that the chroma is more blurry in the bad JPBD scenes, so I figured an edgemask would be correspondingly weaker, and that method seems to have worked pretty reliably. Another aspect of this encode is the fractional rescale. This movie is a great demonstration of the power of a proper descale --> waifu2x cunet double. Some of the lineart repair going on here is downright miraculous, like in comp 27 below, even in comparison to Kawaiika. The Monogatari series basically has the same sort of lineart as Madoka, so it would also benefit from this process—though it wouldn’t be that much of an improvement over Kawaiika-Raws/OZR. If you want to encode it, the descale is 719.78 fractional for the res and probably (0, 0.5) bicubic for the kernel, though I think that changes at some point in the series. Bakemonogatari in particular would benefit from better lineart filtering than the best current encode (Beatrice-Raws). Anyway, here’s some comparisons. Kawaiika was included because it is by far the best JPBD-based encode.
#read all of this in awe honestly maybe im easily impressed but PPL CARE BOUT THIS SHIT SO MUCH!#waifu2x is the best name for a tool ever made even one of my teachers at uni was like ok guys dont underestimate this based on the name lol

okay......anime. I'm sending a lot because I'm not entirely sure what you like? perhaps none of these? please ignore it as needed haha I am mainly getting it out of my system.
SERIOUS FARE - drama, action, adrenaline, feelings
Cowboy Bebop (1 Season, Complete) - slick, gritty, moody, jazzy, impeccably animated. neo-noir space-western about a crew of oddballs on a little spaceship just trying to get by. sometimes goofy, sometimes sad, always a favorite.
Chainsaw Man (1 Season So Far) - an impoverished, immature young man whose dreams include "eating some nice food" and "touching a girl" finds himself swept up in a career that allows him to do both those things and more, to varying degrees of satisfaction. also he can turn his body into chainsaws. it's coming-of-age it's horror it's action it's more found family it's good.
Violet Evergarden (1 Season, Complete) - some controversial choices were made for the adjacent movie, but the show is so good even standing alone. a traumatized child soldier slowly reconnects with her emotions by writing letters for other people. that's basically the whole story. made me cry a lot.
THE FUNNY PAGES - for when you need a laugh!
Spy x Family (1 Season, 2nd Incoming) - a delightful situational comedy set in Definitely Not Cold War Germany about a spy, his cover wife whom he does not know is an assassin, and his adopted daughter whom he does not know is a psychic. featuring moments of genuinely compelling found family connection.
Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (1 Season, Complete) - a girl summons the courage to confess to her crush. a series of misunderstandings ensues and doesn't stop ensuing. more mistaken identity goofiness, a cast full of charming dumbasses, and some insights into life as a manga artist. also another bangin theme song.
TOASTY'S TOP 3 - my absolute favorites
Vinland Saga (2 Seasons, 3rd Seemingly Confirmed) - you follow me so you are probably at least aware of this and whether it looks like something you'd enjoy but I have to include it. a viking-era tale of trauma, war, revenge, redemption, masculinity, religion, politics, philosophy, and more! season one is the prologue, where the antagonist is (imo) the secret main character. season two answers the unmitigated violence of season one with the povs of normal working people who end up as collateral damage, and also pays off one of season one's earliest setups in a huge fantastic way imo. it's idealistic without ever failing to acknowledge the pain that comes when idealism meets reality. I love it.
Run With the Wind (2 Seasons, Complete) - there aren't a whole lot of sports anime for older audiences, but this is one of them and I rewatch it on a yearly basis. you have to kind of slow yourself down for it--most shonen sports anime are brisk, high-octane fun-times, but this one (a college-age series about the most Underdog of Underdog Track Teams) really takes its time building up the characters and environment, and chemistry between the dual opposites-attract leads is so heartwrenchingly beautiful. they complete each other! they love each other! what does it mean to run? why do we run even if we know we can't win?! the answers to these things are found within each other!!
Mob Psycho 100 (3 Seasons, Complete) -slapstick, drama, mindblowing action scenes--this is another one that needs a little time to start showing you what it is, but there's so much heart in this dang show. a hymn to all things mundane and ordinary, a rumination on the dangers of suppressing one's emotions, a story about a middle schooler who tries not to use his Unlimited Psychic Powers and a fraud exorcist who pretends to have powers but doesn't. absolutely worth the watch.
BONUS LIGHTNING ROUND
Shirobako (a stressfully/excellently accurate anime about the anime industry, the only cute-girls-doing-cute-things show I like), Keep Your Hands off Eizouken (weird girls making amateur anime in high school), Blue Period (for if you want to have an existential crisis about ART), Kaiji (Squid Game before Squid Game), The Great Pretenders (Robin Hood-ass confidence artists pulling off HEISTS), Haikyuu (my favorite younger-audiences sports anime, get hype for VOLLEYBALL), Beastars (the Furry One, gorgeous 3d animation, dark and weird and wild), and Neon Genesis Evangelion (surreal horror sci-fi/fantasy, "mechs" vs. apocalyptic "angels", I haven't seen it but it's a standard and also I've been told not to watch it while depressed)
ANYWAY thanks for receiving this absolute infodump, do what you will with it!!
okay but honestly i didn't know cowboy bebop was one and done, i can commit to that

Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning
So, I saw The Beginning yesterday at an AMC theater. I saw it subbed to keep things consistent. I'm gonna split up my reaction into two parts: experience and the movie itself. Angry rant ahead...
Side note: Why is this movie called "The Beginning?" Are they planning more...? (I mean, they're always planning more I guess lol).
Theater Experience:
Always such a delight to see an anime movie in theaters, it's becoming as common as every-other-month these days which is very exciting! It's very rare that I get to see a movie like this that's a continuation of a series. Usually I'm not caught up enough to do that (although I did watch the Shirobako and Jujutsu Kaisen movies without watching the shows lol).
I had no idea that they were going to give me trading cards as I walked in!! This seems to becoming a more common gimmick these days. When I saw the most recent MHA movie they gave me a mini manga. More of this please! I know it's just cheap junk, but it makes the whole thing feel like an experience :D
Theater was more crowded than I expected and full of geeks, of course. I heard someone's ring tone go off and it was a Digimon sound effect. When the ad for the vital bracelet played one dude proudly shook his wrist in the air. I saw a Gatomon plush and the dude in front of me got so hype for the digivolutions that he started filming it on his phone (which I don't condone, but it was kinda funny seeing how into it he was).
Not a single child in the crowd. I guess this movie is obvious millennial-bait tho, so that's to be expected. (Also it was 7pm on a dark Thursday).
Cute little intro interview with the director was cute. My brain had to adjust to reading subtitles on a big screen. I guess I just don't watch foreign films outside the home too often.
Movie Reaction (MAJOR SPOLERS AHEAD):
WTF did I watch!? This movie was batshit crazy and I have many conflicting emotions. I feel like it was simultaneously super intense and really bland at the same time? Let me elaborate...
Putting aside the new dude for a second, the 02 cast really didn't do much in this at all. They all kind of acted as a collective instead of feeling like distinct people with their own roles to play. Their entire motivations/existence revolved around Lui's plot line which is really a bummer. Some characters, like Iori and Hikari were especially sidelined and bland (not that Iori was that great to begin with lol).
The only scenes I really liked with the 02 cast were when everyone (especially Miyako) was telling Lui to cut the edgy crap and just talk to them. I like when aloof characters are called out like that. Also, I liked the part where Miyako accused Daisuke and Ken of flirting teehee (queer baiting!? In MY digimon??) That got a laugh out of the audience too.
Okay...moving onto Lui's story. Jesus Christ. I liked where it was going at first and thought the whole grimdark, Madoka angle (major Kyuubey vibes) was interesting (if not a little too over the top), but then (in my opinion) they COMPLETELY bungled things!! So essentially, Ukkomon kills Lui's parents and potentially multiple children in their efforts to "make Lui happy" by making all the humans in his life behave "correctly." Horrifying and effectively creepy (especially in the scene where they "puppet" Lui's parents). This all culminates in Lui "killing" Ukkomon and losing his eye (which then gets replaced with Ukkomon's eye). I was on board for this horror angle, but then the 02 kids were like "awwww, poor Ukkomon~" WHAT. THE. FUCK. A kid tells you that a monster thingy killed your parents and your reaction is "but did you try being their friend??" Nooooo! So basically the rest of the movie is the kids victim blaming/gaslighting Lui into submission and he's like "you know what? It IS my fault that my parents died! I should have been a better friend." NOPE. This madness just ruined the whole thing for me. Like, what the hell were they thinking? Anyway, rant over. I'll go back to talking about the not as heinous things now.
I liked Ukkomon's sea angel-based design. I didn't exactly find them cute but they were good at being creepy. It was definitely disturbing to see what happens when a digimon partner is HATED by their human.
The "Unkomon" joke was funny but they didn't give a translator's note or anything so I was wondering how many people in my theater got it lol (I guess it depends on how much anime you've seen).
Lui's digimon eye looked really stupid and I think they knew that because they covered it up for most of the movie. I think it was more effectively shown in brief closeups but anymore than that it was just too goofy looking to take seriously.
The scenes about digimon bonds and the (obviously fake) threat of losing them were boring and cheesy. I think they were going for heartwarming, but something about it was very forced. The stakes definitely never felt real.
At the beginning of the movie they used smartphones to digivolve instead of their D3s...wha...?
Speaking of D3s, when they faded away (weirdly slowly) at the end and Hikari was like "what even was the digivice for anyway?" I had to laugh. That's what I've been saying! The lore around digivices, D3s, Arcs (or whatever Tamers wanted me to call them) has always been so vague. Anyway, I feel like they should be more concerned. Doesn't this mean they can't digivolve now...? (They acted like the power of friendship would just make it happen somehow, but I'm not convinced).
The updated digivolution scenes were fun (and funny to see on the big screen), but after watching Tamers, they still seemed lazily done comparatively. I still dislike that they show the greater digivolution at the start of the sequence. What's the point of that?
The movie started with Bolero, because of course. I had to roll my eyes at the nostalgia pandering. We also got a random reference to the first Digimon Adventure short film. That felt jarring since the animation style is so different.
So like...Lui time traveled and told his abusive mom to "be nice cuz your son loves you" and that just stopped all abuse forever? Riiiight...What is it with anime's crappy handling of child abuse lately? They pulled this same shit in Belle. You can't stop domestic violence by going "tsk tsk" to the abuser!
Rolling my eyes at Lui's introduction: "He's the first kid to ever partner with a digimon AND he has a super special eye AND cool grey hair AND his digimon can grant wishes." Serious "My OC don't steal!!" vibes.
Wait...I don't think they ever followed through with the "Ukkomon is connected to a digimon God" plot thread. Is that for the sequel or something? (Digimon 02 2 - The End? lol)
We got a little shipping stuff with Miyako and Ken at the end there. They had zero chemistry in the show and they continue to have zero chemistry in the movie...yaaaay.
I feel like, other than Daisuke and Lui, they just gave all the other guys the same haircut and they faded into the background lol. Ken just looks like some guy now.
Ukkomon's eldritch design was cool. I wish they just let him be evil instead of misunderstood...
So yeah, the writing in this was kind of a train wreck but I had fun regardless! Very curious to hear the dubbed version someday. How many people reprised their roles?

Knowing only that you're a Yuri!!! on Ice fan, here are some anime I recommend. The ones marked with an asterisk aren't on Crunchyroll, but the rest should be! (I also tried to provide possible trigger warnings when appropriate, but a lot of these I watched years ago, so I may have forgotten some.)
If you're looking for more BL:
given (Trigger warning: suicide for the main series and sexual assault/probably rape in the movie)
Love Stage!! (Trigger warning: sexual assault)
Sasaki and Miyano
Nabari no Ou (kinda debatable as being officially BL, but I think it can count)
Fairy Ranmaru
The Night Beyond The Tricornered Window (Truthfully, the main couple has no chemistry, but I enjoyed the mystery part of the series, so I'm still reccing it.)
hitorijime my hero (Trigger warning: student/teacher relationship)
The Stranger By The Shore (movie)
Twittering Birds Never Fly (movie) * (Very much an adult movie, with all that implies. Lots of violence and (often masochistic) sex, and references to rape and abuse, although I can't remember if any of that was actually shown on screen or not.)
Yes, No, or Maybe (movie) (Trigger warning: The final scene of the movie is an absolutely not necessary, not-very-consensual sex scene. Feel free to skip if you want; the rest of the movie is good.)
If you're looking for more sports anime:
Kaleido Star (acrobatics; features some skating in the second season)
Ginban Kaleidoscope (You can find fansubs on Youtube, but it's also about figure skating)
Princess Nine (baseball)
Princess Tutu (ballet)
Chihayafuru (karuta card game)
Cross Game (baseball) *
Haikyuu (volleyball)
Dance Dance Danseur (ballet)
Sk8 the Infinity (skateboarding)
Free! (swimming)
Bamboo Blade (kendo)
Backflip (gymnastics)
The Gymnastics Samurai (gymnastics)
Skate-Leading Stars (Technically, it's about a made up team sport called skate-leading, but think of it as kinda like synchronized skating but with quads?)
Birdie Wing -Girls' Golf Story- (golf)
If you're looking for more romance in general:
Fruits Basket (Either version is great, but if you want the complete story, then go with the newer series. Trigger warning: physical and mental abuse)
My Love Story!!
Ouran High School Host Club
Bloom Into You
Yamada's First Time
Fushigi Yuugi
Toradora
My Dress-Up Darling
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
Snow White with the Red Hair
Kimi ni Todoke
Paradise Kiss
My Next Life As A Villainess: All Road Lead To Doom
My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999
Orange (Trigger warning: Suicide)
Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits
Love After World Domination
Tonikawa: Over The Moon
A Galaxy Next Door
Scum's Wish (Trigger warning: Somewhat non-consensual sex and student/teacher relationship.)
Kaguya-sama: Love is War
Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and The Inexperienced Me
If you're looking for anime featuring main characters who are adults:
Spy x Family
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju (can be interpreted as BL)
Shirobako * (The movie is on Crunchyroll, but not the main series. I'd say the movie kinda stands alone?)
Space Brothers
Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit *
Tiger & Bunny (The main character's young daughter is actually a figure skater, although that's not a big part of the story.)
NANA *
My Roommate is a Cat
Death Parade (One of the characters is a skater, although I don't want to say more since it's a pretty major spoiler.)
Buddy Daddies
Trigun (Stampede) (Both series are great!)
Other series that I just love in general:
Death Note *
Super Gals
Bakuman *
O Maidens In Your Savage Season (Trigger warning: Discussion about past molestation of a child)
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken
Cardcaptor Sakura (Trigger warning: student/teacher relationship)
Sailor Moon (Only Sailor Moon Crystal, covering the first three arcs of the manga are available on Crunchyroll. Sailor Moon Eternal, the two fourth arc movies, is on Netflix, and Sailor Moon Cosmos, covering the last arc hasn't been released yet internationally. You can officially watch the original series from the 90s on YouTube. Love them all!)
Fullmetal Alchemist(:Brotherhood) (Either series in great!)
Pretear
The Apothecary Diaries
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
ReLife
A Place Further Than the Universe
Yona of the Dawn
Zombie Land Saga
Carole and Tuesday *
Someday's Dreamers *
Rah-Xephon *
Neon Genesis Evangelion *
Ghost Hunt
Skip and Loafer
Sound! Euphonium
The aquatope on white sand
Bocchi the Rock
Code Geass
Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun
Nerima Daikon Brothers *
Ascendance of a Bookworm
The Ancient Magus' Bride
Oops, kinda went overboard! Oh, well, hopefully you or anybody else who comes across this list will find something y'all enjoy.
do you guys have anime recommendations?
bonus points if they're available on Crunchyroll 👀
