(2/10 - Choosing Uncertainty) - Words by @drewthayer : many dreams lie dormant, but some stir when imagination meets tactile senses. This particular dream - of untrodden summits and exploration - began as many projects do, in a garage and a basement, playing with tools. The Neacola Mountains rise out of the crest of the Aleutian Range, 50-70 miles from the ocean depending on which route you take. No routes had, to our knowledge, yet been taken. The path is simple, in broad strokes: mountain, glacier, river, climb, ski, paddle. The route was uncertain, but one thing was clear: we had too much to carry. Add skis, and it could become impossible. But what if we burned the skis once we we reached water? It began as a joke, yet soon we realized we’d stumbled upon the key to the puzzle: wooden skis.
