ryuuko and chesapeake by Chiyu
This was an illustration I commissioned for my dear friend Web_Trekker. Chesapeake is their ship-girl OC and I love her design to pieces. Thank you so much for bringing her to life <3

One slot in progress from my normal comms!
This here is a flat color shipgirl of Crim's *New York Class* spacecraft, shown in the third image! As a reliable battlecruiser with a lethal punch to her armament, we decided to give her a battle-proven look, with combat-ready paint and a touch of lingering wear and tear.

Azur Lane OC: Greyhound from the movie "Greyhound"
"We will bring hell down from on high"
A newer addition to the team, she’s very determined to prove herself. She takes her escort duties very seriously, and has outfitted her rigging with extra anti-submarine gear for the job. So make sure you steer her away from the U-boat dorms alright Commander? She can get a bit trigger happy
A Bit About The Design
I watched Greyhound (the movie) a while back and really enjoyed it. It was 90-minutes of pure, clean cut naval action. I've wanted to design some Azur Lane OCs for a while, so I knew it would be some good inspiration.
I used Commander Krause (the main character) as a base for the design. He wears a dress uniform and has a neat leather jacket, and I tried to incorporate both.
Some quick thumbnails. I knew I wanted most of the detail to be focused on the upper body, and I wanted a big skirt. I considered giving her a hat or a helmet, but most Azur Lane characters don't really wear headgear, so I thought it would stand out a bit.
For the rigging I wanted to focus on the weapons used in the movie. Depth charges are an obvious choice, with Greyhound getting her first kill with them. It was pretty straight forward. The racks depth charges are stored in seemed like they could easily hang on the back of rigging. The launcher was a nice addition too.
I was a bit more inventive with the 40mm Bofors. It's used a lot in the film as a sort of close-range anti-sub gun.
I was wondering how to add it. Azur Lane rigging doesn't use small caliber guns like this, but I got the idea of giving it to her as a hand-held gun. But then I had to solve the problem of how she would carry a big gun like a Bofors. Luckily I remembered the Stinger gun, an anti-air gun modified for infantry use in the Pacific and modeled it after that.
As a final note, I just had to include that PBY Catalina because of its rescue at the end of the movie.
And that's a bit of a behind-the-scenes in this little design. Thanks for reading!

Star Patrol rocket Piccard-5 encounters an artifact of the incredibly powerful White Marble Civilization. circa 2169, colorized & shipgirlified.
Commission for @foxgirlchorix, based on a render by Holly for @torchship-rpg
This is some of my best rendering work ever! These commissions do have a knack for putting me out of my comfort zone enough to continue developing my technical skills and style.
Image ID: Digital art of two ship girls in a black and blue nebula background. One girl is a very large solid white marble statue with a naked feminine form, pitted and cratered with meteoric impacts, drifting belly-down though space. Instead of a face, her head has a large hole which glows yellow-orange, with a white marble sphere held in space outside of it. A green tractor beam is being emitted towards the second girl, a Torchship named Piccard-5. She is a silver girl with her body resembling a star patrol jumpsuit. Warp drive rings circle her waist like a hula hoop. She is wearing a spherical ball helmet. She is wearing white rocket boots. She has glowing red-orange radiator panels as wings on her back. The white marble sphere's tractor beam is slowly disassembling her into individual hull sections, disconnecting her radiator wings, removing her boots to reveal the rocket propellant inside her legs, and taking her body apart. Piccard-5 is reacting with a worried or confused expression. End Image ID.
Artist's notes and concept sketches in the read more:
When this render was posted Levana immediately had the idea to make it one of a series she was planning on commissioning me for, of shipgirls based on Torchship's Star Patrol (and alien) rockets. So we quickly brainstormed how it would go down and what she could afford price-wise.
When I do big commissions with new characters where I'm creating the design without an existing OC reference, I charge extra for character design. That doesn't just go to waste! Here's the concept art page:
The White Marble shipgirl is inspired by the Eerie and Enigmatic Empty Vessels by @murmurlilies, which Levana really likes--if you look at her blog you might see one of those posts reblogged multiple times. I wanted to pay homage to the eerie and enigmatic empty vessels without directly ripping them off! The first sketch on the upper left is imagining the girl poses by breaking her arms into segments and moving them around, but that never looked quite right to me. The second is basically just a direct study of the empty vessels (with a ball head). The third is after a little more refinement--I liked the cute hair on the empty vessels so I wanted to keep the head mostly intact, and I found a way of keeping the silhouette of the jagged angular hips on the empty vessels but in a very different way! Meteoric impact damage, just like on the original Torchship render. I also used an edited version of one of the Empty Vessels drawings for the thumbnail sketch in the lower right out of laziness.
There's also a sketch of what Piccard-5 looks like when she's not being disassembled. Piccard-5 has a rounded main hull, so it looks much more like a regular space suit helmet than the frustum-shaped helmet on the Newton-2 shipgirl I sketched a while back. The Newton-2 shipgirl had heat radiators as wing shapes on her boots, but making them actual wings on her back makes the disassembly image all the more unsettling.
I changed the hairstyle on the white marble girl when I drew the main drawing because I wanted to evoke like, greco-roman marble statues, and so a curlier/braided look worked better than the cute pixie cut of the empty vessels. I'm really happy with how the final product looks. I knew I wasn't gonna be able to half-ass it with the rendering, you know, just a little shading along the edge; this required a lot of careful thought and it was a lot of fun to do! Especially where the craters interact with the terminator (line between light and dark), just like on the Moon, which I have a lot of experience sketching (see below--the following sketches were made while looking through telescopes at the Moon at night)
Here's a WIP of just the line-art:
and with the basic shading done on the marblegirl
I started with like, a cel-shaded look (?), and then went in and softened the edges, then went over it again to fix the craters. I also added the marble texture to the unshaded base layer.
For the Piccard-5 girl, I spent a lot of time trying to get the pose right. I wanted it to be a little stiff, she's in a suspension beam after all, but not too stiff? And I had to decide like, what pieces should be detached, and where should they be going. In the render, hull pieces are often displaced towards the side, but when doing that to a humanoid, it ruined the pose too much, so i avoided doing too much weird stuff to the torso and kept the disassembled pieces largely to one axis. The cross sections are hollow because they're ship decks. She's a spaceship, not a robot girl. The warp ring was suspiciously untouched by the dissassembly beam in the original render, but i had the marble girl pull a few pieces off of it in my drawing.
Probably the one thing that isn't based on something happening in the render is the belt. Like, rockets don't have belts, cosmonauts do! So that was a fun little touch.

Hunter or Sheffield for the sick shipgirl ask game please!
(As an optional bonus can you do Swallow?)
Hunter will usually lock herself in her room for the duration, except for occasionally sending her dog out to pick up medication for her. He knows his way around
Sheffield hates being sick, as time spent out of action is time not spent doing her duties. Fortunately, she knows how to brew tea to keep herself going at least a bit
Swallow (OC) gets really whiny when she's sick. She'll usually curl up in her cabin, trying to get someone to pity her enough to tend to her. It's a cold, Swallow, it's not that serious

Was Ishmael always your favorite from day one, or did Canto 5 swing things in her direction?
So, she wasn't like, my favorite favorite day 1, but I did have a higher opinion of her compared to the rest of the cast (barring Ryoshu and Sinclair as food name oomf was making propaganda about them like a madman), her initial demeanor also gained her extra points because I generally gravitate towards characters that Actually Respect The MC/PC i won't say no to unhinged characters can we at least pretend to be civil during work hours and not treat me like a dog? It makes me sad :(
And then Canto V dropped.
Normally, this wouldn't be. That Big of a deal, if it was in literally any other position I'd just go "oh cool, so that's what happened" and moved on.
Problem: there was probably at least 20 different sleeper agents in my brain. And all of them involved Azur Lane
(Context for confused LCB moots: Azur Lane is Arknights' weirder, hornier cousin set somewhere in a WW2-adjacent period where all of your units are warships given human form known as Shipgirls (official term: KAN-SEN) and you fight against a robotic menace known as the Sirens)
(Editing Apple: putting this under cut because... oh lird. It's long.)
I had this like, entire ramble I wanted to go off on but at some point I didn't know where to take it lmao, but the basic idea is the following:
I got into Azur Lane last year because of spite and (eldritch-ish) pirates (Hello Royal Fortune!)
Got dragged into lore rabbit hole
Got convinced to read eldritch apocalypse fanfiction of Azur Lane (Whispers of Saturn)
Loved the fanfic a lot, started making Pirate shipgirl ocs based off the fic's concept (eldritch creachurr)
First iteration of Whaleship Essex created; whale-like mermaid-siren figure who has albinism and is a little Too trigger happy with whale murder
Made her look like Ishmael LCB because haha funny reference
Devs went fuckshit crazy with the anniversary event; Marco Polo was raining the wrath of God (who, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, was a false god), the god in question was fucking up the world with a weird white membrane (which, now that I think about it, kinda acted like pallidification), the french were getting back together, everything is great
I try to add the false god(s) into the lore timeline of my Azur Lane shit, cue updates happening to Whaleship Essex where she's the only survivor of her group and knows that someone else also survived but blames them for not being able to Do Something about it
New Pirate event happens
Devs stole 2 of my OCs and made them canon (hi, Hind; hi, Galley) and they also happen to be close to Whaleship Essex while they were my OCs
I work around what the Devs have given me and decide that they're in a state of kinda died-but-not-really (long story)
(Note that I came up with all this oc stuff around like. November or something.)
Overall my hype for The Sea™ and eldritch horrors have reached an all time high
Canto V releases; I learn about it while trying to make a Limbus AU for Murder Drones
I decide to check it out because. Water.
Doomed sailor yuri
"Holy fucking shit did I just predict Canto V with my OC that's completely unrelated in every way except for the fact that she looks A Lot like Ishmael???? What?????"
Present time; I have been stuck in the Limbus hole ever since (and apparently my brain has delusionally stuck itself onto our favorite ginger sailor so uh. hi fellow ishmael irls!)
Sooooo... yeah
Basically we wouldn't be here if the stars didn't align at Halloween 2022 and Manjuu + Yostar gave the AL fans someone who isn't a pirate
#apple asks#rambles#limbus company#fun fact: i nickname royal fortune as ruby#this is because there's like. 3 different fortunes ingame + one of my ocs is called good fortune (nick: cerise)#post-edit apple:#oh good lird this is long#yeah my brain. is unhealthily attached to al.#fun.

do you have a favorite META shipgirl?
hmmmmm i like pretty much all of them tbh. visually i think Princeton META is amazing, and so are Scharnhorst, Renown and Repulse META
Personality wise I think Helena META because she's so well written. and i mean, it's Helena, what's not to like about that? Helena But With Even More Anxiety and an omnipresence kink.
so yeah I'd say of the METAs we currently have access to, my faves in no particular order would be:
Scharnhorst META
Repulse META
Renown META
Sheffield META
Queen Elizabeth META
Helena META
Hiryuu META
Princeton META
however, for METAs we haven't even seen yet, i will keep my fingers crossed for Duke of York and Bismarck METAs heh. i have OCs of them, even, but that'd would be posted on @tegarrianlore

Admiral Ushakov Quotes
Admiral Ushakov, steel and steam form.
Ship Description: Super-heavy battleship - Admiral Ushakov.
Self Introduction: You're the commander of this base, right? Interesting. I am Admiral Ushakov, battleship of the Northern Parliament.
Acquisition: Huh. I thought the commander would be a shipgirl. Don't expect anything from me, human; I don't expect anything from you.
Login: You're here. What do you want?
Details: I don't like people, I'm much better off by myself. I know every one of my actions, can't say that about other shipgirls.
Secretary (Idle) 1: You really have a thing for torturing me with 'secretary work', don't you?
Secretary (Idle) 2: Can I at least drink while at work?
Secretary (Idle) 3: Paperwok is for weaklings. What do you mean we have to abide by this 'bureaucracy' nonsense?
Secretary (Touch): *Sigh* A massage wouldn't hurt me.
Secretary (Headpat): What the hell are you doing?
Secretary (Special Touch): At least you're bold, I'll give you that much.
Task: Let me handle this.
Task Complete: Tsk. Next time give me harder things to do.
Mail: Some updates came in. You should read them.
Return From Mission: *Sigh* Next time let me go fight.
Commission: The fleet is back from work. Do you want me to debrief them?
Strengthening: Yes, this will do.
Start Mission: Don't give them mercy.
MVP: Hah. They're so weak, they can't handle my firepower.
Defeat: ...This... This is not over. I'll be back for you!
Skill Activation: Give me your worst!
Low HP: My armor's still intact, let me deal with them!
Affinity (Disappointed): Tomorrow I'm packing my things and leaving. You and your little base aren't worth my time.
Affinity (Stranger): Do you have any hobbies? Yes? Don't bore me with them.
Affinity (Friendly): Yes, you can spend some time with me if you want. Don't expect small talk. I hate it.
Affinity (Like): Commander, do you know any nice bars that we could hang out on? I thought we could spend some time together. Maybe I don't need to be so distant with you, as you're my direct superior, no?
Affinity (Love): I will fight an Arbiter head-on if you order me to. All by myself, of course. Having other shipgirls fight with me is a liability. They could get hurt or die, and I don't want the blood of my allies soaking my hands.
Pledge: With this we'll be closer, you say? Yes, it seems worth it. Don't lose the ring, I'll make sure mine is by my side at all times, no matter what happens...

25 ✍️, 17🧑, 8🎬?
✍️ How far have you got with it?
around halfway through. this one is one of the longest i've written so far and i believe it's around 50% done
🧑 Are there any OCs in the piece? Do you think readers will like them?
yes, quite a few OCs make an appearence in this one, but this entry isn't character-focused, it's mor event-focused, so they aren't as important in here
🎬 What is the fic’s source material and what appealed about it?
the main source material behind this one is both Azur Lane lore and SCP Foundation stuff (in general). idk if you're supposed to say things about your WIPs in this type of ask but it's about the world plunging into a shipgirl-lead world war because of the Sirens messing things up behind the scenes, and the Dämmerung Foundation (my version of the SCP Foundation) trying to figure what the hell is going on

(My art on the left, the original commissioner's design on the right)
EMERGENCY COMM | 1 OF 5 REMAINING
@anastasia285's Virtue-Class battleship was a lot of fun to try and translate to a shipgirl!! A major inspiration was Azure Lane, but we also had a long discussion on what parts of the design philosophy were and weren't to her liking, and how to implement certain elements of the ship as character features. :3
Justice.MGLD, an AI adapted from a template program named Marigold, was installed aboard the battleship *SDFS Justice* as part of a modernization effort by the Selenican Navy in order to address the ship's lackluster capabilities in modern void theatres. As the ship changed in accordance with evolving navy doctrine, Justice did, too; with a move towards missiles, improved armor characteristics, and more reserved uses of artillery defining her current tenure in combat and her punchy attitude. Her crew has frequently retuned her to match their perception of the ship, but she's also taken on a character of her own! Punky, cheerful, (and concerningly for the strategic branch,) irreverent when it comes to certain orders. Inexplicably, she seems to have picked up a Colonial tongue called 'finnish' during her operational period. Attempts to purge this anomaly from her model remain unsuccessful, but ongoing.
