Heyo y'all! So... this is a bit new, if you aren't aware, I'm a major fan of Ace Attorney and love the Wrightworth (Narumitsu, Mitsunaru) ship! In fact, I had brain-rot years ago, but was only a reader at the time. One of my friends, Momo (@axolotlsupremacyowo), is a talented Ace Attorney writer (go check her out!), so when I stumbled across the Narumitsu Day exchange a couple weeks ago, I told her about it.

So... of course, she enabled me to join with her, and here I am now. And because the stars aligned, Momo was the one my fic was for. To top it off, my perpetual vampire brainrot persisted, so here I am now! That's right, I actually wrote a Narumitsu vampire AU. And not just that - I ended up creating yet another world I'll write for again in the future. Guess things go out that way sometimes, huh? No regrets XD

...oh yeah, also, this was the other fic I did the Harlequin Romance summary thing on, alongside Flora Fati. This was a wild ride!

Obscure Heroes of the Farsight Enclaves

Apparently the 8e Tau Empire codex dropped some really obscure lore on some Farsight Enclave defectors in the middle of a bunch of really skippable parts of the book like history timelines and example commanders:

This guy is one of the Fourth Sphere of Expansion survivors, who survived the Warp unshielded. The expedition lost 3/4th of it’s tau, who became very paranoid and xenophobic from their experience. They are said to have massacred all auxillaries they had on the ship, and typically refuse to work with non-Tau, following their experiences with chaos The rumors I had heard of Farsight taking several of them in seems to stem from this guy. Though it’s not written, it is a logical assumption that a number of other 4th sphere tau were disillusioned with Tau leadership as well. As a Shash’vre, he leads a squad of XV8s but is not a Commander. He is depicted with dual Plasma Rifles and a missile pod.

Commander O’Ryn defected with a squad over to the Enclaves sometime between the Fourth Sphere Expansion disappearance and the Fifth Sphere Expansion that reconnected with it’s remnants. Like Farsight himself, O’Ryn and her loyal followers dealt with the forces of chaos, lived, and ultimately defected. This is interesting and she seems cool, basically following in Farsight’s footsteps. This appears to be the only mention of “Junica.” So, we don’t really know what she dealt with.

Here’s the original text from a 2015 White Dwarf issue about harlequins that also happens to have this named Farsight Enclave Barracuda Ace. This is all her information; she’s from a Regiment of Renown pannel Still, the idea of a Farsight Enclaves flying ace is very cool and honestly something that seems like a really fun way to play the army without going really battlesuit heavy Interestingly, this is not the only instance of a Farsight Enclaves tau swapping out grey Sept colours for White to represent the mourning of old battles on Vior’los, which had to if the Lexicarum site is to be believed:

This is a picture of a hunter cadre of the Enclaves known as “M'yennan'ka, The Grieving Blade.” It was created by games workshop employee Jan Knackstedt and showcased in Warhammer: Visions 17 (Which... I can’t find a scan of and don’t want to buy for like a paragraph of only-technically-official Farsight Enclaves lore, so I may be missing context) The paint scheme in general is similar enough that I am curious if this is the same guy - Both use gray and orange with the white-for-mourning theme. Though it’s also like, an entirely different shade of gray; that’s a little strange. I’ll just copy and paste from the Lexicanum: “It was formed after their Sept was invaded by Tyranids and M'yennan'ka then defended Vior'los from Orks, followed by the forces of Chaos. The Hunter Cadre has been at constant war since then, and it was last seen taking part in the bloody fighting around Kavardia. M'yennan'ka's armor has been left battle-scarred from its long run of violent battles, but its blue and orange panels, representing unit markings and achievements, still stand out. The Hunte Cadre has also swapped Vior'los' grey Sept markings for white ones, in remembrance for the Tyranid invasion, “ Vior’los is the capitol planet of the Enclaves; it’s name denotes it being a descendent of the Vior’la Sept. I actually really like the use of a specific Hunter Cadre as like an “Enclaves Subfaction” in terms of paint scheme, it really lets you break away from just having reds all the time (...Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

Hi. I saw a take (that I've seen many times before), and I have words I wanna say about it.

This isn't a callout post because at the core I actually respect this opinion and the issues it highlights, but I feel like it's also missing something, and that's what I want to elaborate on.

The take is always some flavor of this: fandom spends too much time romanticizing and sexualizing platonic relationships to the detriment of representations of platonic love.

First, I do think relationships outside the spectrum of sex and romance are important and we could always use more of those dynamics in fandom and outside it! However, I feel like making a point to say that shipping characters romantically is uncritical/reductive, or that focusing on gen relationships is somehow morally superior, really massively misunderstands the history of fandom and the audience that fandom spaces were largely created by. Fandom, especially shipping fandom, is the domain of the femme and the queer. I won't paint a whole huge group of people with a broad stroke, but it would be disingenuous to pretend that romance isn't a primary interest of women in a way it never has been for men. I'm making no judgments here; that's just the truth. Add in queer identities, an aversion to the only romance content that was easily available for years and years (that misogynist behemoth, the bodice-ripper, or the heteronormative Harlequin) and a historical dearth of interesting, 3-dimensional female characters in popular media, and you end up with a group of people who crave romantic content that they feel represents them with little-to-no actual content to speak of that fits the bill. What I'm saying is: people are allowed to like romance even between characters where romance doesn't occur in the canon. They're allowed to apply romantic tropes where none exist, or where the ones that do don't appeal to them. There is no shame in going weak in the knees over two men looking at each other longingly, or in enjoying the thought of them kissing or fucking or settling down to raise a family. That's a thing absolutely anyone is allowed to not only want, but to participate in the creation of! Platonic love is wonderful, and it's awesome when people apply that lens to characters in fandom, but it's not inherently better or more deep than applying a romantic lens instead. We do contain multitudes! We can engage with both! If you are frustrated by shipping culture, keep asking for better queer romantic relationships! Keep asking for better female representation! Ask for trans stories and ace stories! Ask for strong friendships that don't rely on sexual tension or romantic subtext! That way, we'll all end up with a little more of what we want.

But don't ask shippers to move along or tell them they're doing fandom wrong because that's just ... it's not how any of this works at all, actually.

So I'm pretty sure a few of yall follow me because I've been liveblogging RQG. I'm trying to force myself to take a day or two break after the end of s2, but I thought i'd list out what ive spoiled myself on/absorbed through osmosis about the show, if anyone cares.

Ive seen art of azu so I knew her appearance and general vibe

I was going to wait on Stargate Atlantis since I just posted about SG1, but it turns out I have more bad news to share.

Wraithbait is gone.

Both Area 52 and Wraithbait. Jesus. So much for early Stargate fic!

SGA, as it is often abbreviated, followed SG1 in the Stargate franchise. Slash fandom’s focus was largely on John Sheppard and Rodney McKay. John is an ace pilot. Rodney is a hypochondriac scientist. They’re both total dorks.

As cheesy sci-fi, SG1 and SGA are pretty similar. As fandoms, however, there’s quite a difference:

SGA hit just enough later that it attracted tons of livejournal-based fans I knew who had never dipped a toe in SG1 fandom. It was a Fandom That Ate Fandom, draining the BNF writers from all over slash-dom.

Being a little later also meant that it has exponentially more good vids online. I always kind of resented SGA fandom for eclipsing my beloved SG1, but I sure do love the vids!

One of the more famous ones to show at Vividcon is Another Sunday by Jescaflowne. Youtube has it region-blocked all to hell, but it’s still up and probably viewable through the usual sketchy means.

And how could I not share the glorious crack of Soccer Practice by bironic, a rare slash vid showing off hottie Jason Momoa as Ronon Dex. On AO3 here.

For the juggernaut ship, no vid could be more in-character for melodramatic Rodney than Grace Kelly by Diana Williams:

SGA was squarely in the Livejournal era, and a lot of fans from back then have migrated to AO3. Its influence on modern AO3-ish fandom is tremendous, as I’m sure half of you reading this can attest better than I.

One effect on a more meta level was to make female fandom more irate than ever over TPTB being sexist little shits. Reportedly, SGA attracted too many female fans for the showrunners’ comfort, and they wanted to retool their franchise as SGU, a darker and edgier version designed to attract a more BSG reboot-like audience.

Needless to say, when you’re a franchise that’s good at putting aliens in gold lamé bikinis rather than at coherent writing, going darker and edgier does not work.

SGU was a miserable flop, the entire Stargate franchise stalled, and SGA slash fandom developed an enduring hateboner for TPTB.

At Escapade, SGA has had a steady presence from 2005 through to the present. Past panels include:

2006 - First Marriage of Classic and Postmodern Fandoms? (Are we writing fanfic for the show, or are most stories just meta versions of stories from older fandoms, and commenting on each other comments? Remember when people complained all we had was hummus? All SGA has is crack(fic).)

2007 - John Sheppard: Psychokiller or Pretty, Pretty Princess (From mild-mannered sci-fi geek to special-ops xenocide, John Sheppard is one of the prettiest psychopaths in two galaxies. Which is the 'real' Sheppard? Can these two personalities be reconciled? How does this dichotomy in canon affect how we choose to portray him in fanfic?)

2008 - Crackfic, AUs, and Characterization, Oh My! (SGA canon is full of AUs and crack. Do the show's wacky plot twists encourage us to boldly go further out than other fandoms have gone before? And what happens when we go AU: why are John, Rodney, Ronon, and Teyla so recognizable even when they're planted in Harlequin romance, NASCAR, a symphony orchestra, or a diner in Maine?)

2009 - On a Clear Day, I Can See the Pegasus Galaxy (How are you feeling about the end of SGA-relief or regret? Are you looking forward to the rumored film(s), or planning to be snuggled up with your favorite fic that night? He’s the Geek, so why is John drawn to him? Come argue your point!)

Good luck trying to take down Batsy Klein without me now, you pissy purple psychopath. Point is, I had a breakup to celebrate. Saw this thing sitting in Bruce's driveway while I was looking for my shoe. I lost it in the Ace explosion...I think. It's all a bit blurry. Apparently, blasting acid and chemicals into the air has its side effects...along with tequila. Anyways, as a newly liberated woman, I decided to seize life's new opportunities and go for a joy ride. When life hands you a space ship, you jump in and blast Taylor Swift. Speaking of which...--

I really enjoy being able to write in Harley's broken 4th wall perspective. Harley's energy/voice is so fun and light, but it usually takes a second or third pass to get her lighter voice in there. She's forced to face a lot of darkness in this series and she's in an unusual environment, far from everything she knows, so she's pretty vulnerable. Despite that, she's still able to flip so quickly into her sense of humor as a coping mechanism. There's tons of asides and 4th wall breaking in this series! I try to create many fun moments to engage with the reader, so we can all lol together. 🐀🖤

A bright light, like a headlight, suddenly shines through the side window. She shields her eyes and tries to get a closer look, "Miles from Earth and I still hit rush hour traffic!? Turn off your brights, you jizzwad!" She smashes the middle of the steering wheel, hoping it's a horn...or something that will communicate her road rage. An alarm blares as a rocket fires off ahead and smashes into a satellite. Harley watches the explosion in shock. "Oops."

Brian's Note:

I like this sequence as an introduction to Harley Quinn. Trouble always seems to find her, even when she’s trying to escape it. She’s as chaotic trying to fix things as she is trying to break them when she’s with Joker. She does first and asks questions later.

These are my five clowns they very silly

Seafoam, he/him - A plush circus teacup, his favorite color is blue and he’s very sociable. Could be a purebred of not for the significant lack of porcelain.

Azta, he/they - A stilt scare tragic, they like the color lavender and are very shy. Azta was a rescue from the streets downtown, i did a lot of work and research before taking them in.

Malware, Mal/it - A code jester, Mal’s favorite color is magenta and Mal is very pack oriented. Mal kinda just showed up one day and declared itself Seaf and Azzy’s older sibling.

Stellar, she/her & mirror pronouns - A cosmic clown, her favorite color is yellow and she's just a little ball of energy.

Chess, she/her - A harlequin pierrot, she loves her friends and is bonded to Stellar which is why I adopted them together. Her favorite color is red!

Zolf for the character ask meme

1. How I feel about this character?OH GOD THE LOVE I FEEL FOR ZOLF SMITH, my mechanically sad sea dad/hope punk/metal legged BEEFY BOY cannot be quantified. I love him so much it hurts. He’s the perfect combination of awkward, caring and hilarious. He’s so kind! He looks after his people! He thinks he is powerless! I want to take him aside and tell him he’s doing wonderfully, but I know he wouldn’t believe me. 

I love him. In short.

2. All the people I ship romantically with him.Well... all the people basically. It’s no news to anyone that my OTP for Zolf is Zolf/Wilde but I am a shameless multishipper so I also ship him with Grizzop (usually as a sex neutral ace in a triad with Grizzop and Wilde) and right now I’m sneaky shipping him with Cel, they have such good banter. There’s even a sneaky little Zolf/Earhart fic that’s been banging around in my head for a while. I WILL NOT MENTION THE SHIP THAT CREPT INTO THE WILDE SERVER THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE GODS IT’S A SHORT STEP FROM CRACKSHIPPING TO FULL ON FIC and LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO ME LAST TIME I DID THAT.

3. My Non-romantic OTP for this character:

Zolf and Sasha - ultimate low charisma buds, Zolf supports her and loves her and cares about her and him leaving hurt HER in so many different and unique ways and I will never be over the fact that they never got to see each other again. Never. Spoilers for the most recent episode as well but Barnes liking the Harrison Campbell novels has me cheering on the possibility of naval buddies, although I also kinda ship him romantically with Barnes cos... well. Hot.

4. My unpopular opinion about this character:

Don’t think he’s that into Hamid? I never really picked up on that ship before the time skip and it’s definitely not speaking to me now either. But there has been some absolutely lovely fic about them as a pairing, for which I’m grateful. 

5.  One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Oh man if Zolf/Wilde became canon I would probably die but I’m deffo not about pinning my hopes on fictional ships like that. I WISH he’d gotten to meet Grizzop, because oh my GOD how chaotic and amazing would that have been (if hard on Ben voicing them). Basically I just NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TIME SKIP. I want to know PRECISELY how the fight with Poseidon went down, I want to know who, what, where, when he started working with Wilde I want to know about the legs I want to know how he discovered he still had powers I want to know about the Harlequins just GIVE ME THE SWEET JUICY TIME SKIP DEETS ALEX J NEWALL AND BENRATHY YERKLE MEREDITH.

For the ask game: 🐥, 🐰 and 🌷 for Gantu?

Gantu likes to get up early, so he has an alarm set. I'm a pretty light sleeper, so I wake up with him. He tells me that I can go back to sleep, but I can't sleep without him.

Since he's more of a morning person, Gantu's completely awake in about ten minutes from waking. As for me, I need at least a pot of coffee to myself to keep my eyes open.

Those wings are just for show. She's too chonky to actually fly.

I love going to the beach with him, or even just staying by the ship and swimming in the pond at the bottom of the waterfall. There are days where it gets hot enough for the high humidity to bother me, and we'll stay in with the AC on full force.
