Luffy
Uses the pokeballs that he finds the coolest looking, usually fastballs.
Chimchar just seems like the best starter option for Luffy, other being Grookey but I went with a fire type. There is several monkey pokemon that could be on his team, maybe he has them in the box.
Scizor and Heracross because Luffy loves collecting bugs, plus Scizor, Clobbopus and Breloom all fight using punches. Also Breloom has a hat and a shiny version is red.
Fighting type is also fitting for Luffy.
Talonflame as a reference to red hawk move.
Zoro
Doesn't care about pokeball types so uses plain npokeballs, with the exception of cherishball that holds Kuina's Gallade. Only has 3 pokemon, cause, you know.
All three pokemon seem selfexplanatory why I picked them for Zoro? Gallade's story was here.
He easily went through rock and grass gyms with Treecko and Charcadet but got stuck at fighting gym because of Kuina.
Nami
Uses luxuryballs, probably stollen.
Found shiny Purrloin in a trash as a kid and took it home. Has a team of sneaky cats with Meowth being a lucky charm in their heist.
Castform and Wingul as a reference to her navigation skills/role in canon.
Nickit could be on the team but I thought it'd fit Karina more with the whole cat and fox dynamic. Done it here.
Usopp
Bug collector and uses netballs, probably has every bug pokemon and a few shinies in the box.
His Heracross often spars with Luffy's.
Doesn't collect badges but somehow ended up earning one in a ghost gym.
Probably has Smeargle and Kecleon in the box.
Sanji
Is a sea cook so he fishes a lot, uses lureballs, diveballs and netballs, which is funny because I forgot to give him a water type on the team let's just say he has them in a box. He feeds wild pokemon.
Blaziken is just a pokemon version of Sanji pretty much and Tsareena seems right for his team… for several reasons.
Alcremie is just one of the many food related pokemon that Sanji probbaly has.
Ninetails and Zorua mainly because Sanji assosiates with a fox for me, been thinking of Alolan Vulpix line and Hisuian Zorua line as options too, but went with fire type because of Sanji's moves and a dark type for how sneaky he usually is during story arcs.
Gardevoir as a counterpart to Zoro's Gallade.
Been thinking of giving him Skiddo because of Oda's words that Sanji's animal self would be a goat and grass types just seemed fitting with all the ingredients that grow on themselves? Maybe a flying type too.

Somebody: x Pokémon sucks and is useless
What I hear: I don’t know how to battle well and I’m seeking validation from other Pokémon players who suck at battling
#also like this is maybe a ridiculous thing but like I never say that I dislike or downright hate a Pokémon#(except for Diggersby but that's because the sound it makes literally makes me nauseous)#because even though I might not be able to comprehend liking a certain Pokémon there's Somebody out there to whom it's really#special for any number of reasons or even none at all and like . . . you just can't hate on somebody's favorite Pokémon like that's evil#a good friend of mine loves Spinda and Kecleon and I'm just like? ??? but just because I don't like them doesn't mean#that I have to speak bad about them and hey when I get like shiny ones or something I give them to my friend#also like . . . I've used Pokémon I never would've consciously chosen just because they somehow ended up on my team#and it might be my tendency to form strong sentimental attachments to objects but like#I've come to love a lot of Pokémon that I never would've guessed I would've#to be fair I also don't like the Yamper and Lillipup line but that has to do with dog-related trauma#but I love? Arcanine? and the Houndour line! so much! I think it's because they don't look super 'dog-like' so they look sweeter#like if it's got horns and breathes fire and a forked tail and stuff then like . . . that's cute and doesn't make discomfit me

Pokemon needs to use the color forms more
Just randomly remembered that Kecleon had that purple variant from mystery dungeon and it even made an appearance on the anime
And the shiny form of Kecleon only has a minor change of the red zigzag is blue on the shiny
And they haven't retconned it to be the purple one that most saw before the shiny
So this has been one of those rare forms that's “unobtainable”
Then as I thought about it and while playing Pokemon Violet and saw the Squawkabilly different colors
At first, I thought the first different one I saw was shiny but it wasn't, it was just a form
Then I remembered that even pokemon like Vivilon and the Flabebe line the different colors are considered forms
Let alone Pokemon like Shellos with its West and East form being not only pink and blue but the smaller differences of their head shape
So I just figured that they should do that for Pokemon like Kecleon to have the purple version
And there are other Pokemon like that, like all the pink Pokemon from the anime including the iconic pink Butterfree
And even stuff like Crystal Onix, the Mewtwo movie variants with the spots and such, the orange island forms, and even the Magikarp patterns from Magikarp Jump, etc…
These kinda take away from the shiny forms especially since most are better than their shinies but I think it's just a consequence when you have a more boring shiny design for some of these Pokemon
But that doesn't really apply for Pokemon like Vivilon as the different patterns make them more appealing than the black-and-white swap the body gets in its shiny form
Plus people just like the rarity and shiny sparkle and will still hunt them and such for even just completion purposes
And back to Kecleon, they could just play with color animations more like have it change colors constantly
Shame that even if this is a idea to make it work
Time has always been an issue for Gamefreak as this does mean they have to make new models even if it really is just a color difference it'll take time away from other stuff

Clone Wars/Prequel Characters + Partner Pokémon
Screw it, I’m gonna do this. Gonna break this down by different star wars properties so this post doesn’t climb into the stratosphere...
Anakin + Talonflame - Everything about Anakin screams fire type to me. I can just see baby Anakin learning to podrace with an enthusiastic fletchling trying to keep up. A talonflame racing alongside his jedi starfighter would be sick as hell. Sadly, this pokemon would probably die in his transformation into Darth Vader, but I’ll deal with that later...
Padme + Ninetales - I almost said milotic here, but I think Padme’s got some spirit to her that matches a ninetales. All pretty and elegant (a ninetales would compliment her wardrobe nicely), and vulpix could be common enough that her handmaidens could all have one. Also a fire type to match Anakin :)
Obi-Wan + Gardevoir - Gardevoir just screams “so uncivilized” to me, it’d fit his vibe. Obi-Wan, as The Negotiator, strikes me as the type to have a fairy type. Something classy, maybe cute, but it can KICK ASS when the cards are down
Ahsoka + Grovyle (later Sceptile) - It’s all in the dual-wielding, baby. I think back to Gen 3/Advanced Battle when grovyle would use leaf blade like Ahsoka’s reverse grip. It could evolve later when she gets her white sabers in Rebels, showing how she’s come into her own since leaving the Order
Rex + Shiny Nidoking - Old school clone needs an old school king. He strikes me as the more grounded heh counterpart to Anakin’s high-flying antics, but he’s got the cunning to utilize a poison type well. A shiny to match the 501st, of course
Qui-Gon + Sawsbuck - He’s got grass type energy to me, and it matches his lightsaber. Also, his “go with the Force” vibes fit how sawsbuck changes with the seasons
Plo Koon + Noivern - This is one part “he would totally have a big softie of a pokemon” and one part “great pilot needs a great flying type”. You know this thing would dote on Ahsoka’s grovyle like how Plo dotes on her
Yoda + Kecleon - It just kinda fits. It’s a pokemon that I can see him taking to the Council but also thriving on Dagobah later down the line. It’s deceptively good in battle for looking like a funky little lizard
Wolffe + Lycanroc (midday form) - I mean, this one explains itself. Woof woof
Ventress + Weavile - Another aesthetic choice with this one. It wouldn’t be her original partner Pokémon but one she gained after starting her training with Dooku. Ice type just feels right for her and she can freeze opponents when she runs away
Greivous + Aegislash - A FINE ADDITION TO MY COLLECTION. Seriously though, a steel type that is a sword just... it fits too good
Count Dooku + Roserade - A Pokemon that’s got that regal drip but can also drag your ass. Dooku would have raised this guy from his jedi days and stayed with it when he left the Order. Maybe it wouldn’t have evolved until after he left, representing his rebirth as a sith
Maul + Banette - The man that refuses to die needs a ghost type. Also, the pokedex states that banettes are pokemon that were cast aside and now come back with a vengeance. Sound familiar?
Palpatine + Persian - Definitely referencing Giovanni with this one. But, also, I think Peepaw Palps would probably have a really unassuming normal type while doing his whole chancellor thing. With Order 66, I’d imagine that this persian would die/be removed in some capacity. Then, I’d give him Darkrai
Satine + Milotic - The elegance and outwardly gentle nature of a milotic fits. Milotics are real dangerous in battle, but I can see Satine raising one as a statement about her pacifist ideals. Deliberately choosing not to fight with one hell of a water type. They’ve kicked my ass before so that informed this decision
Hondo + Sableye - Got that cunning of a dark type with an eye for PROFIT! Would definitely discover mega-evolution by accident
Jar Jar + Magikarp - C’mon. Them both being aquatic beings helps too
Note: The Bad Batch will have their own list. I’ll put Echo in both lists. Maybe I’ll have to make a clone list because... gee whiz there’s a lot of them

Owl House Pokémon AU
…or maybe Boiling Isle based Pokémon region? Either way, it was only a matter of time before my various brain rots starting trying to merge. I’m sure other people have done this before, but I wanted to give it a go.
I’m going to leave things a bit open-ended, so feel free to chime in with suggestions in the replies, tags, or comments.
My brain keeps bouncing around between “what if the Owl House characters had Pokémon” and “what if the Boiling Isles (and the tensions there during the show) were translated into a Pokémon game?”
At a minimum I want to give the Hexside Squad (with or without Luz) at least three Pokémon, because I think it would be fun to see them as an ever shifting set of double battle partners to face in 6v6 matches. So here they are in alphabetical order, with Luz at the end.
Amity: Her palisman, Ghost, is a white cat; Kantonian Persian is the obvious choice. Her favored magic is Abominations, which are purple goop; since she, in contrast to her parents, focus on a fairly pure expression of the abomination arts, I think Kantonian Muk works for that. Beyond these two, it’s a bit harder: due to her use of whips and tendrils of abomination goo, something like the water/poison Tentacruel or a bug type with string shot or sticky webs (Ariados to keep with her poison theming?); her above-gauntlets bring to mind a fighting type and the ability to fire them is reminiscent of moves like Gunk Shot and Sludge Bomb, so maybe Toxicroak; and, while she doesn’t use it often, we watched her learn a fire spell with a pink flame, so maybe shiny of the Magmortar line.
Gus: His palisman, Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo, is a blue chameleon; a Kecleon would be the obvious choice, either shiny (blue belly mark) are simply alternately colored (like the purple ones sometimes seen); His favored magic is Illusions; which makes either Unovan or Hisuian Zoroark a natural fit. He wants to re-establish contact with the giraffes so Girafarig would also be a great fit. Other Pokémon known for illusions in other ways include Noctowl and Stantler, which means Gus seems to specialize in unusual normal types.
Hunter: His palisman, Flapjack, is a cardinal; while there ARE red bird Pokémon, none of them are really anything close to a cardinal. Given his intelligence and talent for some sort of flash step or short-range teleport, maybe an Alakazam? Really Hunter is the one giving me issues pinning down much of anything.
Willow: Her palisman, Clover, is a bee; based on the prominent stinger, Beedrill could work, though Vespiquen and (as a bit more of a stretch) Ribombee (who is actually a bee FLY) are also possibilities. Willow is an immensely powerful witch with regard to Plant magic especially, so we want to lean into the Grass type; given her propensity for masses of vines, I think Tangrowth would be a good choice, though really any Pokémon that learns Vine Whip would work. She’s also quite buff, so a Breloom or some other Grass types that can learn Bulk Up would also fit.
Luz: We STILL don’t know what her palisman is at the time I’m writing this, so that’s a blank spot. I think a nice touch for Luz would be 4 Pokémon reflecting the 4 glyphs. For the Light glyph, the top 3 Pokémon in my mind are Lanturn, Ampharos, and Umbreon. For the Ice glyph, its Cryoganal; she learned it from a snowflake, after all. For the Plant glyph, while Luz does uses vines like Willow, she learned the glyph from, and often produces, FLOWERS with her glyph, so leaning into that with a Pokémon like Venusaur, Florges (learned as a Flabébé), or Comfey would make sense. Finally, for the Fire glyph, Luz leans more into the traditional orange fire, but also sometimes uses it just to make things hot; honestly, I think anything that screams “I am FIRE INCARNATE” would work for this.

Decided that I should post my shiny pokemon here from now on.
Gastly Line - They all have the same colors as Gengar’s mega and gigtamax’s shinies. Gastly also has the blue mouth it once had in Gold and Silver
Sunkern Line - Did you know that normal Sunkern was green instead of yellow in Gold and Silver? But in Crystal, it lost the green coloring and instead, it is a slightly darker yellow than its shiny in Gold and Silver. I also made the leaf (and Sunflora’s body) olive green. The petals on Sunflora are now more of a golden color, and its face is the same color as the sunstone.
Kecleon - I made it the same color as the purple kecleon.
If you wanna see more of my shiny fixes, go to my deviantART: https://www.deviantart.com/mrsmewgirl24/gallery/69601721/alternate-shinies

Smeargle, Keckleon
Kecleon: Which shiny Pokemon is your favourite?
I’m generally not much of a shiny person, though I did go through the entire shinydex and picked 14 Pokemon I like (though 2 of them were an evolution line but let’s go with 14).
Out of all of them, my fave was likely…
Ditto.
Well, then probably Corsola, Shuckle and Relicanth. I’ll put the whole 14 here in the bottom tho.
Smeargle: Have you ever drawn any Pokemon fanart?
I did design a gijinka once! A joke shuckle which wanted to get punched to laugh at how little damage her opponents do.
I also at one time made fanart of this wailord but it seems I lost the file at some point…
Anyways. Aegis the lvl 100 (make that 1000) Shuckle and the shiny list under the cut.
(EDIT: We don’t need a cut. Look at Aegis.)
Shinies:
Nidoking (love how it’s got Nidoqueen’s colours!)
Venonat/Venomoth (pretty blue!!)
Ponyta (so cute~)
Ditto (DITTO IS GORGEOUS AND THIS ONE’S BLUE TO TOP-)
Shuckle (don’t fuckle)
Corsola (Blessed being)
Gardevoir (kind of obvious)
Aron line (RED EYES)
Relicanth (elegant)
Spiritomb
Magnezone (fell in love with mine in PokeGO I’m sorry)
Gigalith (BLUE STONE)
Reuniclus
Aurorus

Moonvale's Pokemon Commentary: #352 Kecleon
Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon~ you come and go, you come and go~ loving would be easy if your colors were like my dreams: red, gold, and green; red, gold, and green!
Just for Looks:
There's not really too much to say about Kecleon design-wise. It looks like a hornless chameleon with strange lines on its face and lacks those super cool eyes that are basically a staple of chameleon design. It would look so cool with chameleon eyes.
There are three colors that make up the standard coloration of Kecleon (y'know when it's not using the chameleons turn invisible thing): A red stripe around its torso, yellow on the lines on its face and on the 'palms' of its hands and feet, and the rest of its body is a solid green. I bet you thought I used the lyrics from Karma Chameleon just because its a Chameleon Pokemon. You'd be right, I didn't think about how technically Kecleon is also ‘red, gold, and green’. But I did have a wholesome cackle when I realized it.
Some who've seen the anime or played Pokemon mystery dungeon would assume that a shiny Kecleon's only difference from a regular Kecleon is that its green scales are purple. Well, you guys are wrong. The only difference is that shiny Kecleon have a blue stripe around their abdomens instead of a red one. I have no idea what is up with those purple Kecleon. But shiny Kecleon also have blue tongues to match their blue body stripe and I find that hilarious.
Kecleon's one of the pokemon who I actually like the way the washing out of the 3D sprites changed their colors. I'm rarely fond of any shade of green that leans closer to blue than yellow and sprite Kecleon has a shade that's just ever so slightly too blue to work with its body for my taste. The 3D models on the other hand have a nice paler more yellow looking green that works with the yellow and red quite nicely as well as the blue on the shiny. It also matches the official art much better in my eyes.
What's in the Name:
Kecleon's likely just an Engrishy version of the Japanese name Kakureon. And that name is likely a combination of kakureru (to hide) and chameleon according to Bulbapedia. Considering this Pokemon is known to turn invisible I'd say there's little doubt this is the most accurate basis behind its name.
The 'Dex Says:
Kecleon change color to hide themselves in their surroundings and use that camouflage to sneak up on prey, where it then lashes out with its long tongue. You know, like how a Chameleon does. However, Kecleon are apparently unable to change the color of that red (or blue in a shiny's case) stripe around their abdomen. That seems like a pretty big issue evolution wise but whatevs. If it's startled while hidden it will revert back to its natural colors as well. I guess Kecleon follow a concentration rule for changing color rather than how it just naturally happens in response to a chameleon's mood and current state. Though fire red and leaf green tell us that the colors will also change if they are happy or sad.
Alolan entries mention that if no one notices it after too long that it will pout and will reveal itself. I mean, okay Alolan Kecleon. That's not exactly how camouflage is supposed to work but you do you. Their colors change not only based on their mood but their health as well. Apparently, the darker a Kecleon's scales are the healthier the pokemon is. From what I mentioned above, that would mean Kalosian and Alolan Kecleon are some of the most unhealthy of the species. Oh dear.
It's Rating Time!
3/5 for Kecleon. I don't hate this pokemon. I'm really quite fond of it, but it's like.. it doesn't really have anything special going for it?

BONUS: Way before the “real” shiny (which actually makes a little sense) was made... we had the purple Kecleon!
(Quick reminder that if you wanna skip any bonus doodle for some reason and you’re viewing the blog itself on mobile, the read more doesn’t work!)
Pictured here is the Mystery Dungeon variant, since the one shown in the anime had “face lines” the same color as the normal one! Although I do wish it had a blue belly stripe... maybe then it would be the actual color of the shiny and it’s just trying to disguise itself as the normal one!

Pokemon who's colors you'd change? Evolutions you'd like to see?
Im actually generally ok with Pokemons original colors... theres a LOT of shinies id change though. LIKE DRAMPA.
Maybe Dragonite tho? Whered that shitty pale orange come from? The light pretty blue of Dratini and Dragonair was great. If a complete color change is happening at least make it BETTER... its shiny is also GARBAGE compared to its prevos.
Barbaracle as well.. but theres no helping that. Theres no helping that entire line.
Theres a lot of one off Pokemon that drive me crazy. I rarely use one offs... Hitmonlee and Scyther in Red and Drampa in Sun... Zangoose and Seviper. Castform I already been through. Kecleon. TROPIUS is such a cool Pokemon but... I gave it up for a Pokemon I could raise and evolve...
Id also like to see Arbok get an Evo or Mega Evo. Flygon and Jynx deserves a Mega too. Miltank/Tauros shoulda got a Prevo. Id like to see Pelipper get an Evo or Mega too... I love Pelipper. No one agrees with me.
Luvdisc deserved to have an Evo and that Evo deserved to be Alomomola. WHY NOT?! GAMEFREAK WHAT THE HELL.

Totodile, Kecleon, Luvdisc, and Lucario!
Totodile: Who is your favourite starter Pokemon?
Ohh! I have many that I love so much! But I’ll go for Torchic, because it has a special place in my heart!
Kecleon: Which shiny Pokemon is your favourite?
The Flygon line, because Trapinch was my very first shiny pokemon that I found in the wild and capture ever! (it was in Pokemon Ruby). I was so happy when I found out that it was a shiny (I didn’t know it at first lol) and the shiny version of Trapinch, Vibrava and Flygon are pretty cool imo.
Luvdisc: Do you ship anything?
Omg I ship a LOT! If I mention all of them it would take so much time I think lol So I’ll name some of my faves.
Pokemon Anime:
-Rocketshipping (AKA My OTP)
-Krazyshipping (Meowth x Pikachu)

Prerelease Primer: Celestial Storm
A prerelease can be an exciting or daunting experience, depending on how you feel about the following sentence: you’re playing with brand new cards before they’re even released! Whether you’re psyched or psyched out, I hope this advice will allow you to make the most of this unique tournament. Good luck - and have fun!
An introduction to prereleases
A prerelease tournament is a unique opportunity to play with new cards from the forthcoming set - in this case, Celestial Storm. It’s part of what’s known as the “limited” format, which means that you’ll be using a randomized (well, partly semi-randomized) pool of cards, as opposed to a constructed format, in which you’ll be competing with a deck you constructed - hence the name! This format is slightly condensed; you will construct a 40 card deck and play games with 4 prizes, rather than the usual 60 card decks and 6 prizes. This may sound daunting. “How will I have any chance of pulling any cohesive evolution lines or have any guarantee of having enough Pokémon of any given type?!”, you may ask. Luckily, these days, your limited “pool” consists of 4 booster packs of the forthcoming set and what’s called an Evolution Pack. The Evolution Pack comprises two of four pre-set groups of cards: two complete evolution lines in a decent quantity from the new set (usually 2-2 or 3-2-2 from basic to top stage), a number of Trainer cards from the new set and other Standard-legal sets, and sometimes a decent basic Pokémon that works well with the core evolution lines. You will also get one of four promo cards: a powerful Pokémon from the new set that corresponds with one of the two types in your Evolution Pack. Your Evolution Pack will form the foundation of your 40 card deck, with the contents of your 4 booster packs providing you with some options for customization. If you don’t have any Energy cards, your tournament organizer will provide some for you to borrow for the duration of the event. You don’t need to bring any cards with you, so a Prerelease is a great way to start playing if you have no cards at all! However, I would advise bringing, buying, or borrowing some sleeves, dice (for coin flips and damage counters), and Poison, Burn, and GX markers. Now that we know what we’re doing, let’s take a look at how to construct a deck with your shiny new cards!
Prerelease deck construction
Even if you’re a seasoned Constructed player, the Limited format requires a totally unique approach to deck building. As Trainer cards and other consistency pieces are few and far between, you will need to construct your deck in a way that ensures a good mixture of Pokémon and Energy cards, with your small pool of Trainers providing support when you draw them. In general, a Prerelease deck should follow this structure: 12 - 16 Energy -This sounds like a lot, but you will need consistent access to it. I recommend running a high count if you’re running 2 or more types.
10 or so Trainers - Run as many as you can. Even Supporters like Hau and TV Reporter are extremely useful in Limited. Generally, Supporters are card draw and consistency pieces. You’ll want as many of them as possible! 14 - 16 Pokémon - Run as many as required if you don’t have enough trainers. Try to maintain a good balance between basic and evolution Pokémon. Nothing feels worse than bricking from a lack of basics! Big, beefy basics with good attacks are at a premium here. If you get a good “bomb” card - such as a GX - don’t be afraid to “splash” it, running a couple of energies of its type (including cards like Rainbow Energy, which is a great fixer in Celestial Storm) to facilitate it! Once you’ve constructed your deck, “solitaire” it by playing out a few turns by yourself. Does it run smoothly? Is anything not pulling its weight - and can you replace it with anything? If not, don’t be afraid to tweak it to your desires! Now that we’ve got the general Prerelease preparation out of the way, let’s look at the Celestial Storm Prerelease in particular!
Evolution Pack contents
Here are the contents of each Evolution Pack “half”, headed by its corresponding promo. Remember: you will get TWO evolution packs, but ONE promo! By memorizing the contents of each “half” - including the Trainers - you can give yourself an edge in battle. Knowledge is power! Kyogre: The Masked Royal TV Reporter Copycat Timer Ball Mudkip (60 HP) Mudkip (70 HP) x2 Marshtomp x2 Swampert x2 Celesteela: Tate & Liza Bill’s Maintenance Switch Timer Ball Beldum x3 Metang x2 Metagross x2 Manectric: Hau TV Reporter Great Ball Nest Ball Chinchou x2 Lanturn x2 Electrike x2 Manectric Delcatty: Apricorn Maker Underground Expedition Great Ball Nest Ball Skitty x2 Delcatty Gulpin x2 Swalot x2
Evolution Pack tips
Metagross and Swampert can deal massive damage and take huge hits, but as stage 2 Pokémon, they take longer to set up than their stage 1 counterparts. Kyogre is a huge basic with incredible attacks. If it can’t knock something out in one hit with Grand Wave, it can weaken it while it’s on the bench with Dual Splash. Watch out for it! Manectric can set up a devastating turn 2 attack with Lanturn if you start with it in the active position and draw into enough energy. You can choose to discard all energy attached to Lanturn to deal a whopping 140 damage with Lightning Strike! Delcatty is a colorless Pokémon. This makes it easy to slot into decks to generate card advantage by recycling Supporters. Since Supporters are scarce in Limited, any extra use you can get out of them will help! Swalot is included in Delcatty’s evolution pack. Use Amnesia to win a game of attrition while you generate card advantage with Delcatty! Many Pokémon in these Evolution Packs - particularly Swampert, Metagross, Manectric, and Celesteela - only have one attack. If your opponent can’t switch them out, all they can do is watch as their Pokémon slowly faints, unable to defend itself! Celesteela’s Moon Raker takes less time and effort to set up in Limited. All it takes to reach a shared total of 6 prizes is for each player to take 1 knockout or for a single player to take 2. If exactly 6 prizes remain between both players, Celesteela can deal an unbelievable 160 damage for 1 Metal energy! Also, Metagross only requires a single energy to attack. This allows you to allocate your other energy attachments to powering up Celesteela, ready to fire off endless Moon Rakers! Chinchou may look unassuming, but it can deal 10 damage to 3 Pokémon at once with Spark! Whittle your opponent’s Pokémon into manageable chunks with Chinchou!
Good pulls
Look out for these cards in your booster packs: Colorless Pokémon and Pokémon with colorless attack costs that can be paid with any energy are always useful at Prereleases! Here are a few to look out for: Dunsparce can search your deck for 3 basics, then run back to the bench, away from harm. Of course, this means that you can use it again and again to replenish your bench! Pelipper’s Water Pulse does 80 damage and puts your opponent’s active Pokémon to sleep for 3 of any energy. Status effects are particularly devastating in Limited! Kecleon can deal 80 damage for 3 of any energy. If you’re low on good attackers, it can fill a gap nicely. However, don’t expect to find its corresponding Unit Energy - it’s not in Celestial Storm! Whismur. Yes, Whismur! Wail deals 40 damage and forces your opponent to switch their active Pokémon for one from the bench at the cost of 3 of any energy. Not many Pokémon can cause decent damage while they disrupt your opponent. Who would have thought that Whismur would be the one to accomplish it so efficiently?! Sableye doesn’t just have a great ability that lets you take a sneak peek at the top card of your deck. Disable can prevent your opponent from attacking, allowing you to stall the game while you establish your board presence! Plusle and Minun are Supporters on a stick! Their first attacks both generate repeatable card advantage with effects that mimic draw supporters! Luvdisc is fairly similar to Dunsparce with its Pokémon fetching attack. If you don’t pull a Dunsparce, Luvdisc can bring the love instead. Besides, it’s much cuter! Cacturne can snipe out weaker Pokémon on your opponent’s bench. There’s no escape from its Feint Attack, which deals 50 damage to any of your opponent’s Pokémon! Also, any hit to it results in its attacker being poisoned! Scyther can prevent your opponent from hitting it, if you’re lucky. If you’re even more lucky and pull more than one, it can clone itself! Deck thinning is a very useful effect in its own right, stacking the odds further in your favor! Grumpig’s Mirror Steps deals 80 damage for one of any energy if your opponent has one of the same Pokémon as you. As this is a prerelease and everyone gets 2 of 4 pre-set Evolution Packs, the chances of this situation occurring are pretty high! Deoxys A and S are big basic Pokémon that have great attacks with colorless energy costs. They’re a holo and rare respectively, but keep an eye out for them! Solrock can deal 1 of 2 very annoying status effects for one of any energy. Try to stack up burn AND paralysis! Trainer cards are the backbone of any good deck! Friend Ball can find Pokémon that share a type with one of your opponent’s Pokémon. As everyone is almost certainly running 1 or 2 of 4 possible types, the chances of Friend Ball having a target are high! Energy Switch can allow you to salvage energy that isn’t in the right place at the right time. You won’t be caught short with this! Rainbow Brush can facilitate splashes with very small energy counts. If a splashed Pokémon has an energy of your deck’s primary type attached to it, Rainbow Brush can search for one of your scarce copies of the splashed Pokémon’s type and swap them over! Pokénav can be the consistency piece you need to find a Pokémon or energy card without using your Supporter for the turn. How useful! Hustle Belt is an easy card to overlook. However, many of your opponent’s attacks won’t knock your Pokémon out in one shot, leaving it in range of this fiendish Pokémon Tool that allows your Pokémon to deal 60 more damage with its attacks if it has damage counters on it and 30 HP or less! Tate & Liza is a 2-for-1, acting as a draw supporter or emergency switching method, depending on what you require at the time. In a format where Supporters are scarce, one that can play double duty is very welcome! Of course, there’s still one hero in this set that can make all of your GX splashing dreams come true: Rainbow Energy can allow you to use that one bomb rare or GX you pulled! Also, it can pull of a funny combo with Hustle Belt and the 40 HP Seedot... If you pull off this spicy meme play, PLEASE take a photo and send it to me!I may have missed quite a few useful cards from this list. If you found something particularly brilliant that isn’t on this list, please let me know so I can tell the masses about it in time for next week’s prerelease! If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message. Good luck, have fun, and - as always - happy gaming!
