Semiobscure Song Time
I haven't posted any of the music I listen to lately, so how about we go for one of the more unusual ones today. Presenting Heartless Scat by Ningen Isu
youtube
Ningen Isu is a Japanese classical metal act, at times described as Grandpa Metal on account of the age of their two frontmen. The name of the band comes from a horror short story, The Human Chair, and a lot of their lyrics and songs are themed after weird fiction concepts like The Color Out Of Space and Great King Of Terror. The song I've linked above, though is a bit more relatable, if no less esoteric.
To the best of my understanding, Heartless Scat is essentially the singer bringing his complaints about his life to higher and higher instances of divine authority, culminating with imploring Lord Buddha to hear his prayers and cut him a damn break already.
The contrast between the metal guitar and vocalist Shinji Wajimas clear, almost proclaiming voice makes for a very memorable sound, and the shreddy guitar solos certainly do add a certain air of Rage Against The Heavens-energy to the whole thing.
So, in spite of being, I suspect, rather culturally specific, this song is a whole-ass mood. If the more Japan-specific aspects of the band appeal to you, I recommend you check out Love Suicide at Shinagawa or Namahage
