G1 Climax night 1 preview
This is the opening night of New Japan's annual heavyweight singles tournament. This year's format involves twenty men, divided into two blocks of ten. Over the next month, each participant will have one match against each of the other nine men in his block. The goal is to have the best win-loss record among your block.
The top three in each block advance to a knockout stage on July 15 and 17. This is a pretty big change that I'm excited about, because it means more wrestlers will be mathematically alive much later in the block stage. Basically it'll be #2 vs. #3, for the right to face #1, to decide the block winner. Finally, on July 18, the winner of A Block meets the winner of B Block, with the winner earning a trophy, a flag, and the right to challenge the IWGP world champion on January 4, at Wrestle Kingdom in the Tokyo Dome.
A Block: Tetsuya Naito vs. Shingo Takagi - Naito regained the IWGP world title a couple of weeks ago in New York; the title is not at stake throughout the tournament. If Naito wins the G1, he'd earn the right to choose the challenger for Wrestle Kingdom, but I don't expect that to happen. On the other hand, if anyone beats Naito during the tournament, they'll likely get a title shot within the next couple of months, and I definitely see that happening.
Naito won the tournament in 2013, 2017, and 2023. Takagi's personal best is 7-2-1, which would probably be good enough to get out of the blocks this year. This is only the second time these two have met one-on-one; Naito won their last encounter.
Star power aside, the big draw here is that Naito and Shingo are members of the same faction, Los Ingobernables de Japon. I don't expect any dissension in the ranks, but they're also not going to go easy on each other. Takagi's whole style is to clobber the fuck out of dudes, which is a problem when Naito has been visibly banged up for years. The most exciting finish would be for Shingo to score a bit of an upset over his leader, the world champion. But I can't really see them running this match back in September, so I'm picking Naito to win.
B Block: Yota Tsuji vs. Konosuke Takeshita - This is Tsuji's second trip to the G1; last year he debuted with a 3-3-1 record that I found somewhat disappointing given all the hype around him. Takeshita is new to the tournament. He's been affiliated with DDT for years, and his big claim to fame is AEW, but if he's representing any group it's probably the Don Callis Family. Not counting crossover shows like Forbidden Door and All Together, I think this is his first time stepping onto New Japan's cerulean blue canvas.
I like that Tsuji is second from the top because he's one of the guys they need to elevate, and quickly. I don't know that I'd pick him to win the tournament, but I would definitely give him a a lot of key wins, and probably finish in the top three. But he's got a tough draw tonight, because this is a must-win situation for Takeshita.
I think Takeshita will probably end up in the middle of the pack, maybe finishing around 4-5. Newcomers and outsiders tend to only do so well in the G1, and he's both at once. But in light of that, New Japan knows he needs a strong start, and Tsuji is the kind of guy they can feed to someone who needs a strong start.
A Block: EVIL vs. Gabe Kidd - Evil reached the semifinals last year, mostly to tease what a debacle it would be if he won the whole thing, without actually doing it. I can't imagine they'll take it that far again this year. Kidd, the STRONG men's champion, debuted last year with a 2-4-1 record, because he's more concerned with hurting people and freaking out than figuring out how to win. That's a good character for him to play, but this tournament is about results, not tantrums, so he's probably not going to be competitive in the G1 for a couple more years.
Back in the day, whenever two Bullet Club guys faced off in a tournament, they'd do a comedy routine about how one of them is willing to lay down for the other, but then they'd have second thoughts and end up having an actual match. Nowadays, though, they don't even bother to act like collusion is possible--the War Dogs (such as Kidd) are too belligerent, and everybody in House of Torture (like Evil) is too devious. My guess is that Kidd will come out swinging, and Evil will hit a low blow (or get someone else to do it) to level the playing field. Evil should probably win here, although I don't expect him to be a major factor late in the tournament.
B Block: David Finlay vs. Yuya Uemura - Finlay is the IWGP global champion, and he was one of the quarterfinalists in last year's G1. Uemura returned from excursion last fall, so this is his first trip to the big dance. Typically when Young Lions graduate to full-time wrestlers and qualify for the G1, they do very poorly in the first year, so it'll be a moral victory for Yuya to secure even one win. But he's definitely not going to pick up that win here. I expect Finlay to start very strong and then stumble in the home stretch. This is going to be a mugging.
A Block: SANADA vs. Jake Lee - Sanada won the 2020 tournament; last year he went 7-0 in block matches, so you'd have to figure he's a heavy favorite. Lee, coming in from Pro Wrestling NOAH, is appearing in the tournament for the first time.
The big story is that, on July 13, Lee disbanded NOAH's Good Looking Guys stable, turned on his ex-partners, aligned with New Japan's War Dogs, and declared his exit from NOAH altogether. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but this will be our first glimpse of Lee and whatever repackaging he'll undergo for this new direction.
Sanada is an easy pick to win the G1, simply because he lost the world title at the last Wrestle Kingdom, and it'd be straightforward to tell a story about him getting it back one year later. But the easiest story to tell for Sanada in this tournament is if he stumbles early and has to climb out of a hole. So Lee is my pick to win here.
B Block: Jeff Cobb vs. Hirooki Goto - Cobb, the NJPW World television champion, went 8-1 in the 2021 tournament, so he's got what it takes. Goto has won the whole thing, but that was waaaay back in 2008; even his big second-place finish in 2016 feels like a lifetime ago. Much has been made of the way this year's tournament excluded aging mainstays like Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii, and KENTA; the fact Goto made the cut suggests they have a purpose for him here. But I suspect that purpose is to finish 2-7 so he can put over a bunch of guys like Cobb.
A Block: Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Great-O-Khan - Sabre was a quarterfinalist last year. Khan (the KOPW champion, for whatever that's worth) has never scored better than 4 wins and 5 losses. Throughout 2024, Sabre has been acting like he knows big things are awaiting him on the horizon, and he's repeatedly commented that he needs to win the G1 this year. He sounds like someone who's been told he's getting a big push. Now, I don't know why he would telegraph that to the audience in such a blatant fashion. So I could be totally off the mark, or he could be feeding us a red herring.
Regardless, I think Sabre will finish in the top 3 for the block. To create suspense about that, though, he should give up some wins against weaker opponents, and I think Khan fits the bill nicely.
B Block: HENARE vs. El Phantasmo - Henare only won one match in his first G1, and only two in his second, and that really pissed me off. I'm always pulling for this guy and being bitterly disappointed. Hopefully that's going to change after he recently won the NEVER championship in the biggest match of his career so far. Phantasmo's personal best isn't much better--three wins, three losses--but I'm not as worried about him finding ways to get ahead.
In 2023 Phantasmo was turfed out of Bullet Club, and he went into last year's G1 feeling incredibly isolated until the Guerillas of Destiny invited him into their stable. In 2024, all the Tongans in GOD have left to join the Bloodline in WWE, so Phantasmo is headed into this year's G1 feeling even more isolated. Will Jado still be by his side? Will he introduce a new look or something? Will he just be a sad sack devoid of motivation? This match will answer those questions. I just hope ELP protects his neck, or Henare will run him down like a truck.
A Block: Shota Umino vs. Callum Newman - You'd think Umino would be pushed as the future of the company, but his G1 debut last year with a 2-3-2 record suggests otherwise. He needs to post a higher score, and it'd be pretty hard not to. Newman is a newcomer, and I wouldn't have expected him to make the cut in 2024 except that he won a six-man tournament to qualify, scoring upset wins over the likes of Kenta and YOSHI-HASHI.
Umino ran into some trouble a month ago when he suffered hip and back injuries in a routine AEW match. I was real curious if he'd even make it to the G1, and he didn't confirm so until this past Monday. I doubt they would rebook the tournament to give him more losses on account of that. But if he's still hurting, this could be a particularly grueling tournament for him. I don't expect Shota to get out of the block, but he could surprise me. As for Newman, he's at the "just happy to be here" level where a 0-9 record is very possible; he's the heavy underdog in all of his matches, including this one.
B Block: Ren Narita vs. Oleg Boltin - Narita debuted in the G1 last year with an anemic 3-4 record. Boltin is entering for the first time, following a six-man qualifying tournament where he knocked Toru Yano, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Taichi out of the field.
Boltin was a Young Lion when he, Tanahashi, and Toru Yano captured the NEVER trios title a few months ago. I expected that to effectively "graudate" him out of the Young Lions system, and he'd get to pick out custom gear and have his own entrance music. But so far, he's had none of that--even when he qualified for this spot, he was wearing the plain black trunks and they played the generic curtain jerker theme. So maybe this match will be his big coming out moment. Or maybe he just doesn't give a crap, I don't know.
If any other Young Lion made it into the G1 like this, I'd expect him to lose every match. But Oleg is 265 pounds of solid muscle, and they've given him Brock Lesnar's finisher. They have big plans for this guy. Big enough to get past the chicanery Ren Narita brings to the table? Well, we'll see. I think this one could go either way.

the thing is i planned on making a top five favorite block matches of the g1 post but it would've just been ospreay and okada matches. who are my top two guys in the entire company. which feels biased in an entirely new and never before seen way
so here are my top five matches that don't involve those two instead to keep it fresh and fun here on kopw dot tumblr dot com
hirooki goto vs zack sabre jr. [d block, day 16]
gabe kidd vs yota tsuji [a block, day 13]
alex coughlin vs toru yano [d block, day 16]
kaito kiyomiya vs sanada [a block, day 7]
henare vs shingo takagi [c block, day 4]
but for my actual top five just imagine a compilation of every ospreay and okada match. with ospreay vs okada at number one. that's the list that's like true to my soul

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Preview
Its that special time of the year....no not the return of The Hot Tag, but this years NJPW G1 Climax 33 is nearly upon us. This years tournament is the biggest ever with 4 groups in action showcasing 32 competitors from not only NJPW but also other companies talent too thankfully.
Lets dive into the groups separately and give a quick over view of what to expect and lay some predictions out there
A BLOCK
SANADA
Chase Owens
Hikuleo
Ren Narita
Shota Umino
Yota Tsuji
Gabe Kidd
Kaito Kiyomiya
What's being look at as the young boy group with Sanada and Owens, with Sanada being the obvious favourite as reigning IWGP World Heavyweight champion. Its rare the world champion goes undefeated throughout the tournament and usually drops a match or two to setup future title matches before the January 4th Dome show. Id expect the key names looking to get that role will be the likes of Kiyomiya, Tsuji and maybe even Narita.
Kiyomiya should be one of the breakouts of this years G1, the current Pro Wrestling NOAH star has had some exposure in NJPW after feuding with Okada and will hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow NOAH star Katsuhiko Nakajima in the 2016 G1 Climax, who had some superb matches that year.
Also in this group is the newly announced group of the Reiwa Three Musketeers, in Umino, Tsuji and Narita. The Three Musketeers stable name has been used previously in the company with the last trio being that of Shinsuke Nakamura, Katsuyori Shibata and Hiroshi Tanahashi, its a very valuable name for the promotion to hand out and is a sign of how talented they see the current trio both the current scene as well as the future of NJPW. Will be VERY interesting in seeing their bouts against each other which I imagine will start out harmless and competitive, but will quickly descend into something heated when they realise the pecking order could be set here for how each guy is seen by the NJPW audiences for a long time. Alot of depth story wise here as well as potential for great matches, will be a big talking point for the Japanese media during and after the tournament as well.
Have to go for a Sanada win, with im guessing Tsuji coming in second place only slight infront of Kiyomiya.
B BLOCK
Kazuchika Okada
YOSHI-HASHI
Taichi
KENTA
Great-O-Khan
Will Ospreay
Tanga Loa
El Phantasmo
I really hope this group turns into a sprint between Okada and Ospreay, pretty sure they have 2 matches each following their one on one match on July 27th. Imagine they go the time limit versus each other and the raised importance of those final matches will be immense. Tanga Loa and El Phantasmo for Ospreay and KENTA then Tanga Loa for Okada, not the hardest bouts but the atmosphere for near falls will be superb.
I like O-Khan but he isnt in the league of the main two guys and their booking is vital for NJPW's future shows. Okada over Ospreay in the standings.
C BLOCK
David Finlay
Tomohiro Ishii
EVIL
Tama Tonga
Shingo Takagi
Aaron Henare
Eddie Kingston
Mikey Nicholls
Even though this group features one of my all-time favourites in Shingo, I really cant get into the feel of it overall. It feels nasty to say its alot of nearly but not quite guys if that makes sense, hopefully they can change that in the future but so far its been alot of promise and the start of something then it all slowed down (Tonga, EVIL) .
Its really nice to see Eddie getting his chance in his dream environment, he must be so happy every morning he opens his eyes in Japan then at the same time falls asleep wondering 'what if' the likes of Tenzan/Kojima/Honma/Nagata were still in the running so he could bang with them nightly.
Has to be between Finlay and Shingo for the leadership, with the need for the Bullet Club leader to look strong winning out, Ishii, EVIL and Tama all running close.
D BLOCK
Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tetsuya Naito
Hirooki Goto
Zack Sabre Jr.
Toru Yano
Jeff Cobb
Shane Haste
Alex Coughlin
Another strange feeling group and ive no idea why, well I do alittle but more on that latter.
The Ace continues on and wont be stopped by age or his knees looking like they explode most nights lol Every year I feel its a year too far for him he goes deep in the running to prove me wrong, and I love him for it even more than normal. I see him getting the wins this year but dropping the key matches to who I think will be the key three in this group.
Those three being Naito, ZSJ and Cobb, Jeff may surprise people with the pick but I see them building him up for the United Empire so that Ospreay can be in the position to go back for the world title and Cobb can be the next era for the US belt. Naito and ZSJ are the constants over the past few years, be it in the G1 or the New Japan cup, consistency and the big scalps and I dont see that altering anytime soon.
In terms of a winner Id lean on ZSJ for the upset over Naito, who also really needs the win after the Sanada turn. Some big booking needed by NJPW in making guys as well as not cooling the others down too far, it really is the toughest booking gig of the year.
Quarter Finals - August 10th
Sanada vs Shingo
Okada vs Naito
Finlay vs Ospreay
ZSJ vs Tsuji
Semi Finals - August 12th
Sanada vs Okada
Ospreay vs Tsuji
Finals - August 13th
Okada vs Ospreay
Winner of the G1 Climax 33 - Will Ospreay
What better way to build the tournament than by having the two guys sprinting through their group, who go to a draw on the way, have to finally settle that score in the final with the guy who finished second taking the crown overall.
The knockouts should be awesome setting up multiple future bouts such as Okada getting a title match after beating Sanada in the semis, can he win the title before the actual winner gets his shot against Sanada his-self setting up another match between Okada/Ospreay at the Dome on January 4th?
To conclude I think as normal this tournament will be great and will have tons of superb matches and moments, the bigger issue for me is that bigger numbers dont always mean better tournaments. Some of the groups feel like they have too much filler with ALOT of younger guys getting the nod and entrance. Its great for them to gain the experience this provides but for me im a sucker for the 2 group concept 20 guys maximum. This needs to be treated as the most superior tournament wrestling has to offer, the younger wrestlers need to prove theirselves more before gaining access.
Why not develop a young lions tournament for guys under a certain age with the winner taking a spot in the tournament wit the others missing out, letting them stew and develop to be better for next year where they could win the thing or even become so much better they are offered a spot on merit instead?
That aside im pumped as normal for this and will always be ready to see who Yano can tie up in duct tape up the aisle and beat :) Always a gut punch knowing we arent getting Yano/Omega again
Enjoy folks
Bye for now
Andy

Dream match: Mami vs. Daddy match. Shingo Takagi vs. Rhea Ripley, with El Phantasmo and Dominik Mysterio ringside. Imagine the twinky outside of the ring shenanigans! The hardhitting badassery of Rhea and Shingo! The comedic result of El Phantasmo being Annoyed to call Shingo Daddy, while Dominik loves calling Rhea Mami!
It'll never happen, but a girl can dream.

OOO X Drive X Geats X Detective Conan crossover lol after another crime was solved.
Shinnosuke: You guys were right, it literally just falls on him.
Takagi: Right? And his comments about something else is incredibly connected to the case at hand.
Sato: We were always perplexed… but not gonna lie, we prefer these kinds of cases.
Chiba: With Conan-kun, things go a bit chaotic.
Shinnosuke: Couldn’t agree more.
Gotou: I thought it was just a myth.
Takagi: Gotou-keiji!
Gotou: I was already in the vicinity when it happened.
Shingo: I was the one who called the police here.
Gotou: It was supposedly our day off too.
Shingo: But yeah, I thought everyone was just exaggerating.
Chiba: Oh you guys also know of Keiwa-kun
Gotou: I’ve heard of him before, we were just recently introduced.
Shingo: Same here.
Shingo: Never thought I’d see it be proven true.
Sato: That reminds me, Tomari-keibu, what did you find about Keiwa-kun’s parents… that was weirdly barred from access.
Shinnosuke: Oh that…
Shinnosuke: It was tampered.
Shinnosuke: A lot of things in the report do not add up and the tamperings are attempts to make sense of the report.
Sato: Wait, it was forged?
Shinnosuke: Not to worry, I’ve already taken liberty of sending it to the proper channels to have everything corrected.
Shinnosuke: Although I doubt you’d be given access to it.
--after some moment---
Shingo: So police reports do not change how they died?
Shinnosuke: Apparently so
Gotou: Do they know?
Shinnosuke: They already know how their parents died.
Shinnosuke: Sara was there when it happened.
Gotou: So the edits were trying to corroborate Sara’s new memories.
Shinnosuke: Yes.
Gotou: What’s going to happen to it?
Gotou: The report, I mean.
Shinnosuke: It’ll be transferred to the records of people who died of monster attacks.
Gotou: Still, for everyone who were killed to be brought back and the one time they weren’t, it’s Keiwa’s parents.
Shingo: I agree, it’s too cruel.
Why wouldn't Satou and Takagi be given access to the Sakurai parents' records if they were going to be made out as victims of motw attacks? I imagine that in the world of Kamen Riders, that wouldn't really be anything special, since monster attacks are unfortunately commonplace... it's just the DGP connection that gets covered up or erased by the resets/memory wipes

Hello Cass today im going to annoy you and all the people that follow you with my own commentary on the looks of the wrestlers that were at the fighting spirit unleashed press conference
Hyan- I liked her look a lot but the only thing that didnt really convince was the deep cut of the dress (but she looked great so its ok)
Giulia- SHE LOOKED SO GOOD, this is exctally what i would wear if i had to do a press conference. I loved how it gived her even more an aura of confidence
Alex Zayne and Lance Harcer- nothing in particular to say about them, i mean they both looked good and also kind of intimidating if i had to be onest
Hikuleo and ELP- I LOVE THIS, this was so funny and cahotic that made the press conference even better (btw imo it was all Riley idea)
Henare- liked the look (even if i thought that the hat was unneccesary) but didnt like the vibe (at least when he went to do the solo photos)
Eddie Kingston- i mean it might not be the best outfit to wear for something like that but its Eddie style (also i cant imagine him wearing a suit it feels so wrong)
Shingo Takagi - he always go with the saffest choice (which is a suit) but he made it more casual with wearing a t shirt instead of a button up
Tama tonga- Simple but he made it work so good for him
lots of love
Meg
♥ I agree with all of these. Guilia looked the greatest but I think ELP and Hikuleo doing the costumes was perfect. They understood what the people wanted. It was a great press conference.

His Consolation
Sunday Smut! Aside from my obvious lust for the Switchblade, which I’ve clearly been indulging, my NJPW favorite is Shingo Takagi. I just go weak with that powerful, dominant vibe and it makes me furious that he’s had such a rough run in the G1 thus far. I wasn’t expecting him to win (although a showdown between him and Naito would be pretty amazing), but I can’t believe they’ve had him stumble this much.
So that was my frame of mind when writing this, obviously set after he went 0-2 in the tournament.
Pairing: Shingo Takagi x OMC
Word count: 1,340
Content advisory: graphic sexual content, references to homophobia
It broke my heart to see him like this. After such a long stretch of near invincibility, seeing Shingo lose his title to Minoru Suzuki and then lose his first two G1 matches made me feel a bit sick. I knew he was better than that. I knew that he was capable of crushing any opposition in his path in New Japan; But I was starting to worry that he couldn’t see it himself.
I went to the ring to help him from the ring after the loss to Jeff Cobb. I held an ice pack against his neck and walked him back to the LIJ room, handling the last stretch by myself as the other Young Lions made their way back to prepare for the next match. The room was deserted, the others off watching from the VIP booths or, in the case of Sanada and Naito, preparing for matches the next night. I hated the idea that Shingo was alone, not that I didn’t think he enjoyed being alone but because I felt like he could enjoy his time so much more if he would spend some of it with me.
I had been trying for months to escape from my fantasies about him, but as I walked him into the LIJ dressing room, I could not help but try to soothe some of the hurt he was feeling. So, as I slipped from under his arm and saw him glaring furiously into the distance, I wrapped my arms around his thick body and ran my tongue up the muscles of his neck, finally giving a light kiss to his earlobe.
Startled, he immediately swung his arm back, a gesture that could have knocked me to the floor if I hadn’t darted out of range.
“What the hell are you playing at?” he barked, murderous dark eyes fixed on me.
“I was just…” I know that there was no real explanation I could offer. “I’m so sorry Takagi-san.”
I tried to slink to the door with a posture of one who knows he has offended someone far above his station. My sexuality was something I liked to believe was a secret but I knew that word got around and that it was likely that most of the New Japan roster was aware that I was gay, even if it wasn’t something I was prepared to publicize at the moment.
Making a pass at Shingo Takagi was a huge mistake. I knew he was straight. I knew that he was as ornery as the other members of Los Ingobernales de Japon and the look he gave me had my blood running cold at the thought that I could be exposed or even that he could hurt me for offending his masculinity. It was dangerous, negotiating the sexuality of the wrestlers. On the one hand, they were all about brotherhood and male bonding, going through women like tissues. On the other hand, they had that fragility, that need to reinforce their meterosexual virility.
I felt sick at the thought of how quickly I could lose my job, how one word from him about my indiscretion would see me cast into the street without any kind of severance pay or a reference. And at the same time, I savored at the taste of his skin and in my mouth, my cock growing a little hard just at the thought of him using me.
I cowered, gathering the ice packs that we’d applied to Shingo’s powerful body and made my way to the exit without looking back at him. With him, there was always the chance that his confidence in his manliness was enough that he’d just shrug the incident off, and that I could avoid being terminated if I just kept my distance. I stayed as far away from him as I could physically manage and slunk towards the door like a beaten dog, not daring to raise my eyes.
“Hey, Masami!” The barked interjection made me turn around, my shoulders tilted downward.
“Yes sir,” I responded, terrified to look at his eyes right away.
Shingo sat sprawled on the long sofa, ordered especially for LIJ and the site, I knew well, of dozens of encounters with the opposite sex. His arms rested on the back of the sofa and his legs were spread as he gave me a dangerous glare, tinted just a little with a darkly humorous edge.
“Come on,” he barked.
My eyes widened, not quite believing what I was hearing.
“Hurry up,” he growled, obviously impatient. “Suck me off already.”
I placed the ice packs gingerly on the ground and approached him timidly. No matter what he was saying, I knew there was the chance that when I got within arm’s reach of him, he’d beat my head into the ground until he felt my skull crack. But as I approached, he made no move, glancing down at the bulge in his tights as I lowered myself to my knees before him. I eased the fabric down, surprised when he lifted his hips to help me do so. Immediately, I pressed my face at the top of his thigh, planting wet kisses over the flesh all around. I was a little hurt when I realized that his cock remained flaccid despite my ministrations.
“Get on with it,” he ordered.
I wasn’t used to having to excite a man from nothing but I drew his whole dick into my mouth, pushing all the way down to his balls and working the space between them with my tongue until I felt him becoming erect. I pulled back a little, using my hand to stroke him until he was swollen rigid, drawing the tip of my tongue along the seam of his cock, gratified by the shudder that ran through his body as I did.
Continuing to swirl my tongue over the mushroom head and twisting my hand over the base of him, I glanced up to see that he had let his head fall back and had closed his eyes as he groaned, probably imagining some doe-eyed girl was pleasuring him rather than me.
Nevertheless, the sounds he was making and the sensation every time he bucked his hips in response to my sucking and licking was like a drug and I wanted to make it last as long as possible, holding back just a little every time I felt he was getting close, edging him further little by little and delighting in his increasingly loud moans.
I started when he grabbed me by the hair, forcing me down on him so that my nose struck his pelvic bone. I gagged at the intrusion before I was able to settle my breathing and take him deeper in my throat, the muscles constricting around him. I could do nothing now except raise my eyes to see him, even as they were blurred with tears.
As my vision cleared, I saw that he was no longer reclined, but staring right at me with a terrifying intensity. His eyes continued to bear down on me as he mercilessly fucked my face, harder and faster until I felt his cum hot in my throat. Still he held my head in place.
“Clean it off,” he hissed, loosening his grip a little.
I hollowed my cheeks and sucked on him, finally sliding away, having swallowed every drop. He regarded me expressionlessly, his tongue pushed into his cheek before pulling his tights back up.
Understanding that this was my cue to leave, I slunk back towards the door, not daring to look at him again. I bent my body in an attempt to hide that I was half-hard just from the pleasure of being used by him, making myself look all the more awkward.
As I opened the door, I heard his commanding voice once again.
“Hey!”
I shyly looked back, trembling to meet his steady gaze.
“That helped,” he grunted.
I nodded and sheepishly made my exit, my cheeks flushed with excitement and pride.

Mistake ~ Sanada
A/N: You requested this so long ago, I can’t even remember when it was. But I finally got round to finishing it today. It’s a little old so his hair isn’t fully blonde in this and I don’t wanna change it, but it’s not important. Hope you enjoy it!
Requested by: @ghostofviper
Warnings: alcohol
Tagging: read this post
“How did I let this happen? I’m so stupid.”
Summary: Mixing being drunk with a visit from some old friends makes for a regretful situation.
You saw him again at the bar. He was wearing a tight white shirt and black jeans. You smiled to yourself at him looking so clean and pristine even in a club. His hair was slicked back, the usual blonde top to his mohawk colouring his head. However, you could still see the black underneath, the way you liked it. The way it was when you were dating.
You used to date and you loved it. He was romantic, sweet and caring. Eventually, it got to the point where he just cared more about wrestling and his brothers than you. Not that you minded him spending his time doing that, but he spent all his time doing that and only came to you for sex and the odd date. It was something you weren’t willing to waste your time on.
You successfully tried to avoid him the whole night and keep him out of your mind. Tonight was for you and your friends to get tipsy and relieve some stress.
But you just couldn’t help yourself. Your eyes were constantly drifting to where he was sat, leaning comfortably on the cushioned seat surrounded by people. He had always been a people person, meaning he was happy to sit quietly in their presence without interacting with them. That was the most realistic reason for his almost bored expression, not the reason created in your mind that he needed the right kind of company with him to form a smile. That company being you.
Your friend spotted him when she went to the bar for drinks. You saw them talking and your heartbeat increased.
You locked eyes with him when your friend pointed toward your table. He gave you a scan whilst leaning one arm on the bar top. You saw the faint mark of a smirk on his face. You looked away, your cheeks going red against your will.
They walked towards your group, Sanada a few steps behind looking in another direction. He was waving his hand as though he was getting someone to come to him. It was when you saw a man with purple and green hair heading his way that you remembered he was out with his brothers.
As soon as your friend put the tray of drinks down you reached for a shot and threw it down your throat. If LIJ were hanging with you tonight, you’d need about 500 more of those.
“Guess who I found at the bar!” your friend sang. Then Sanada came from behind her, a hand around her waist. He smiled down at her and you weren’t sure what it was inside you, but the sight of him touching her like that made your blood boil. You knew it was an innocent touch by the way he moved her to the side with the same hand, making space so he could sit at the booth.
“Hey ladies.” He said. His voice was deep and a little raspy from the whiskey he’d been drinking. He quickly looked between all the girls to see who was there and who he remembered. Then his eyes fell on you, as did everybody else’s at the table.
Looking into his eyes was like heaven. He was a ridiculously handsome man and his eyes were almost angelic. Much different from his personality, something that you had grown to know. You smiled at him softly as you got a little lost in his eyes.
“Hey.” you said quietly. Upon seeing your acceptance, your friends dropped their worried expressions and cheerily greeted Sanada too. He replied with a few small nods around the table before Naito dropped down at the other end of the booth. His arm landed around your friend’s shoulder and he winked at her, causing a schoolgirl-giggle to leave her lips.
As the others joined the group too, everybody scooted around trying to fit. Obviously, you all didn’t fit, but peace was found when Evil and Naito found themselves with a girl on their laps and Bushi and Shingo left with a couple others to the dance floor.
You shook your head slightly to yourself over the situation you were in. You had come out with your friends to have a good night after a tough week at work and now you were joined by your ex and his much less courteous friends. You grabbed another shot off the tray and gulped it down in a flash, the burn in your throat satisfying your sudden need to get wasted and forget about your surroundings.
What you missed was Sanada with his arm on the back of the booth seat watching you, the corners of his mouth lifting for a second. He knew you must have been stressed if you were doing shots, it was the quickest way for you to get drunk. Sanada remembered a lot about you from your time together and it was something that always impressed you. Sure at the end of your relationship, he didn’t care much about what you did, but that wasn’t to say that he never cared at all. If you were to pick one person who knew you best from the group you had around you, you’d pick Sanada in a heartbeat.
---
Eventually, you ended up on the dance floor with your friends. Your attempts to keep Sanada out of your mind were going disastrously. Every time you thought of something else, you locked eyes with him across the group of people and you thought of nothing else but how good he looked.
That's when a pair of hands graced your hips and took you out of your own head. You recognised the hands and the touch they gave. As you looked down and saw the shoes you knew it was Sanada. You bought him those shoes a while ago. It shocked you that he would still wear them considering the money he had to buy new ones.
At that point, you were full of alcohol and whirling emotions, so much so that you melted back into him, indulging in his warm, muscular figure and moved your hips with his.
He span you around to face him and moved his hands to your lower back to pull you closer. Your hands instinctively fell on his shoulders. Memories flooded back to you from when you were dating and you would do this most weekends. How dances like this would lead to him taking you back to his hotel room to have his way with you.
Your inhibitions were out the window and all you could focus on was him. You floated closer together until his lips landed on yours. It felt just like you remembered; soft but hard enough to know he was in charge. The taste of alcohol and the smell of his cologne drew you in to keep kissing him back. His hands snaked down and grabbed your ass and it was like a switch was flipped.
You jumped back from him and pushed him away - not that it did anything since he was much stronger than you. He looked at you confused. One second you were kissing him, the next you want him nowhere near you. “How did I let this happen? I’m so stupid.” You said to yourself, your hands on your head as you try to process what you just did.
Sanada stretched a hand out to bring you back to him but you moved out of his reach before he could. It was like all the alcohol was washed away and you were left looking at the ex that broke your heart with the way he treated you at the end of your relationship.
You had to get out.
One of your friends noticed you as you rushed to the table to grab your purse. She grabbed your shoulder and asked where you were going. “I need to leave, I, I need to go.” ”Go where Y/N what are you on about?” You turned sharply to face her.
“You should have never invited Sanada over to us.” The venom in which you said his name shocked you. On any other day, you would have said you were okay with him but after tonight your feelings had changed. Emotions had returned and you made a huge mistake falling into his arms again. “I’m going to the hotel, I’ll call a cab.” you walked away without looking back, leaving your friend shouting after you to come back.

Sakura Genesis preview
Tetsuya Naito vs. Yota Tsuji - Tsuji won the New Japan Cup tournament to earn this match with Naito's IWGP world heavyweight title on the line. Win, lose, or draw, Naito is already slated to face Jon Moxley on April 12 in Chicago. That isn't scheduled to be a world title match...at least, not yet. If Naito retains against Tsuji tonight, Moxley will almost certainly confront Naito after the match, and Naito will most likely put the gold on the line for next week.
This is a tough spot for Tsuji. He returned from excursion last year with a red-hot start, immediately challenging SANADA for the world title, but losing that match hampered his momentum. I strongly feel he shouldn't be put back in a situation like that unless they're ready to let him win the big one. I also strongly feel that Naito-Moxley is going to involve the world title. So I don't think Tsuji can win here, and everybody is going to be looking past him, which is all wrong for a guy with so much potential to be a top star.
To make matters worse, Tsuji did a press event making bold proclamations about what he'll change once he's on top. The current world title was created in 2021 when Kota Ibsuhi unified the original IWGP heavyweight and IWGP intercontinental titles; Tsuji says he'll bring back the heavyweight belt and properly retire the IC belt. It's hard to imagine New Japan will actually do any of this, so it comes across like Tsuji is writing checks he knows he won't have to cash. It's one thing to call your shot and blow it. But this is a whole other level of hubris, and if Yota can't back it up it could be a humiliating setback for him.
Setting all that aside, there's also the issue of both the champion and challenger being members of Los Ingobernables de Japon. Naito has always welcomed the idea of competition within the faction, but EVIL and SANADA have demonstrated that such competition can tear LIJ asunder. If Tsuji is going to be a tippy-toppy guy--and New Japan needs a new one--then sooner or later he's going to need to run his own team, whether he breaks away from Naito or usurps LIJ out from under him. A Naito win here doesn't get us any closer to that inflection point--Tsuji will just do the fistbump like a good soldier and remain the #3 heavyweight in the group.
All in all, I really want Tsuji to shake things up with a title win. On the other hand, I live in Chicago, and I really want to see Moxley challenge for the IWGP world title in my backyard. So I'm pretty torn on what should happen here, and what will happen here. Which isn't a bad place to be in, if you're a fan. But if you're the booker, well...Gedo's got his work cut out for him. My gut says he'll have Naito retain.
EVIL vs. Shingo Takagi - Evil is defending the NEVER openweight title. Shingo is 2-2 against the champion, but it's been three years since he last defeated Evil in a singles match. It's only been three weeks since Evil beat Shingo one-on-one, during the New Japan Cup, so I'm not sure what we're doing here. But I guess somebody has to challenge Evil and do all the House of Torture spots.
The NEVER belt is kind of a hot potato, so I could see Evil dropping it to Shingo in his second defense. On the other hand, if enough House of Torture guys run in that will create a justification that Takagi is protected from doing a clean job, so it's okay to beat him. However, I think they tipped their hand a bit by announcing Evil's teammate Yoshinobu Kanemaru as the referee. It's one thing for the heel to stack the deck against the babyface, but this goes so far that Takagi almost has to defy the odds and win.
Jon Moxley & Shota Umino vs. Jack Perry & Ren Narita - Perry debuted with New Japan on January 14 by ambushing Umino. That led to a match on March 6, which Perry won with help from his new friends in the House of Torture. Shota spent the next month looking to settle things once and for all, and it looks like he'll get his chance with another singles match on April 12. In the meantime, though, he said he had something special planned for the House of Torture, and evidently it's his old mentor, Jon Moxley.
I liked the idea of Mox taking Shooter under his wing in 2019, and the idea that Umino became "The Roughneck" because of it. So I'm not so wild about the idea that Umino's big plan to settle the score with a bunch of hooligans is to bring in his daddy to fight his battles for him. Umino shouldn't be "the guy who can call Jon Moxley to beat your ass," he should be "the guy who learned how to beat ass from Jon Moxley." Granted, this is just a place-setter for the real blowoff next week. But Shota is overdue to prove he can fight--and win--his own battles against guys who play dirty.
I would probably have Mox pin Narita for the finish, unless they really want to get heat and have Perry get another cheap win over Umino.
SHO vs. YOH - This is Sho's first defense of the IWGP junior heavyweight championship. He won the title back in February, but Yoh stole the title belt during the New Japan Cup tour. Sho is outraged at the notion that you can demand a title shot by stealing the belt, even though that's literally what how he won the title from El Desperado in the first place.
It feels like ancient history now, but Sho and Yoh spent much of their careers as a tag team, going on excursion to CMLL as the Tempura Boyz, and returning as Roppongi 3K in 2017. R3K won the IWGP junior tag title five times, but in 2021 Sho turned on Yoh and joined the House of Torture. Both of them have gotten a lot weirder since then. I think Yoh kissed Sho on the mouth during a match one time? And I don't mean like Toni Storm kissing Mariah May--more like Rick Rude kissing a fan back in the day.
Anyway, it'd be funny if Yoh won the title by out-House of Torture-ing Sho, but I don't really think that's how they'd give him his first singles belt. I'll go with Sho to retain.
KENTA & Chase Owens vs. Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI - Owens and Kenta are the defending IWGP heavyweight tag team champions. Bishamon (Goto and Yoshi) are seeking their fourth reign with this title. During the New Japan Cup, Yoshi eliminated Kenta in the first round, and Goto eliminated Owens in the second round, which pretty clearly set up Bishamon as the next challengers. Nobody takes Owens seriously as a champion (even though he's held this title before) so I'm not sure what the point is of keeping the belts where they are. Bishamon should win and move on to stronger competition.
Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney vs. KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight vs. TJP & Francesco Akira - Connors and Moloney are defending the IWGP junior heavyweight tag title in a three-way match--whoever scores the first fall on any opponent will win the match and the title for his team. The champs have traded the title back and forth with Catch 2/2 (TJP and Akira) for months. Before that, though, it was the Intergalactic Jet Setters (Kushida and Knight) who traded the title back and forth with Catch 2/2. It was looking like we were headed for another Connors/Moloney vs. Catch 2/2 match until the Jet Setters suddenly revealed they were coming back, and stole Catch 2/2's thunder.
I don't think it makes much difference who wins here--we're bound to see the two losing teams get plenty of title shots down the line anyway. I guess I'll pick Connors and Moloney to retain.
SANADA & Yuya Uemura & DOUKI vs. Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman - Sanada doesn't have a clear direction since being knocked out of the New Japan Cup; he's probably out of contention for the world title until at least the G1 Climax. Meanwhile the United Empire, represented here by Cobb's team, is similarly rudderless since Will Ospreay left. I'd like to see everybody in this match get on track, but I don't expect it to happen here. At best maybe Uemura can issue a challenge for Khan's KOPW belt, but that's not much to hope for.
David Finlay & Gedo vs. Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI - Finlay is returning to action after some illness or something forced him to withdraw from the New Japan Cup. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume he's pissed. It's a top heavyweight and an aging junior against a top junior and a middle-of-the pack junior. That math comes out looking good for Finlay. Gedo might lose the match for his team, but I'm thinking Bushi is far more likely to take the pin.
Zack Sabre & Kosei Fujita vs. El Desperado & Ryusuke Taguchi - Sabre looks to be challenging Matt Riddle for the television title on April 12. Everyone else in this match is just happy to be here, I suppose. Sabre should probably beat Taguchi.
Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano & Boltin Oleg vs. Ayato Yoshida & Takuro Niki & Chicharito Shoki - This is another one of those "frontier zone" matches where some New Japan guys wrestle some guys from smaller promotions. I've given up expecting it to matter who the outside guys are, or what company they represent. The New Japan side pretty much has to win.

Hoshikuzu Kyôdai No Densetsu (The Legend Of The Stardust Brothers)
Director Makoto Tezuka Stars Shingo Kubota, Kan Takagi, Kyôko Togawa Japan 1985 Language Japanese (with English subtitles) 1hr 40mins Colour
Unhinged pop musical
I’ve seen this described as a satire, but that suggests that there is a point being made, something is being targetted. And I’m not convinced that’s the case. A better way of describing it is maybe as a very broad knock-about comedy that’s a pop musical. But that probably wouldn’t get you close to understanding what this is like.
It’s framed by what the lyrics of the song they are singing explain is a comeback performance from the Stardust Brothers (their name is in English, the rest of the song in Japanese). The Brothers (who are not brothers) are dressed in silver jumpsuits while their backing band is in evening dress. They are in colour while their (horrified) (stylishly retro/futurist) audience is in black & white.
We then flashback to the start of their abrupt rise and fall. Shingo (Shingo Kubota) and Kan (Kan Takagi) had been singers of rival aspiring bands sharing club nights. Kan’s band are a punky lot with a chanty theme song indebted to the Ramones’ Do You Remember Rock’n’Roll Radio, Shingo, meanwhile, has a would-be loverman schtick – his band’s track, synth funk with echoes of A Certain Ratio and Imagination (and of Haircut 100 in the group’s outfits), is the best song in the movie.
Then a mysterious record executive offers them instant fame, but only if they ditch their bands and become a duo. With a huge advance on offer, they sign up. There follows their rapid success and a equally quick crisis – the standard stuff of music biz movies. They make one friend – aspiring singer Marimo (Kyôko Togawa) and gain a rival in Kaworu (Issay), who has a very late 1970s Bowie look.
There’s a lot of Three Stooges’ level slapstick – director Makoto Tezuka clearly thought the skinhead security guys at the record company bopping people on the head with baseball bats was endlessly hilarious. The music is mostly pretty poor – a lot of it has a 1970s Eurovision vibe, 1950s rock-inspired but with an oompah cheesiness.
The main actors are reasonably endearing – enough to make me wish that a better film had been built around them. But everything else is a mixture of the perfunctory and the bizarre. At moments it made me think of the more on-the-nose bits of Absolute Beginners and occasionally maybe Brian de Palma’s Phantom Of The Paradise, but it never approaches the messy fascination of either of those movies.
The explanation for the shoddiness of all this is that it started as an album by Haruo Chikada and film student Tezuka was commissioned to make a movie from it. That could work, of course, but really doesn’t here. It would be great to say this was a rediscovered masterpiece, but it really isn’t.

Full Power Struggle Tour Lineups; Update on Kota Ibushi; Sugabayashi Says More Matches On Cards Going Forward; Aaron Henare, Yuto Nakashima Return To Ring Action; Update on My Status
The full lineups for the Power Struggle show and Road to Power Struggle tour have been announced now. I'm still not very enamored with only getting a two-day respite after something as long and tiring as G1 Climax, but I don't make the schedules. Last year, there was a five-day break between G1 and the beginning of Road to Power Struggle. Maybe next year, now that the Olympics are done and dusted, and we are slowly moving out of the pandemic wrestling era, we can get a proper break after G1 Climax in 2022.
On a related note, NJPW held a press conference yesterday, featuring Kazuchika Okada reiterating his desire to not hold the Wrestle Kingdom Challengers Contract Briefcase, but rather the v4 IWGP Heavyweight title belt instead. NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi said he would consider Okada's request.
Sugabayashi also gave an update on Kota Ibushi's injuries, stating that they have determined Ibushi suffered a dislocated shoulder, which is still bad but not as bad as breaking one's arm. NJPW have refused to give a timetable for his return until a "more thorough appraisal" has been determined.
Sugabayashi also went on to say that due to states of emergency being over, and the overall decrease in positive COVID-19 cases and the increased vaccination status across Japan, that NJPW will begin to increase the number of matches on shows once more. This, honestly, is a bad move. One thing I've been generally positive about during the pandemic wrestling era in Japan was the decrease in the number of matches on shows, ending a lot of the endless-prelude-tag-match rut that a lot of tours are. It's indicative of a company that has a huge roster and doesn't know what to do with all of them. Shorter shows were a lot more digestible, and a lot less skippable. Now we'll be slowly inching towards 10-match Korakuen Hall shows once again. Nature is healing I guess (imagine me rolling my eyes so hard at that statement, God why did I even write that?). NJPW owner Takaaki Kidani last month said as much in Tokyo Sports, that they were going to increase the number of matches, so I guess this is their window to do so.
On that note, several wrestlers who have not been seen in some time make their return on this tour. Among those is the United Empire's Aaron Henare, who was last seen during Wrestling Dontaku Night 2 on 5/4/2021, on the winning side of a United Empire v. Los Ingobernables de Japon 6-man tag match. Since then, he has not wrestled, so it's unknown if he had an injury, or if he was one of the many who chose to return to his home country during the states of emergency in Japan. (Fellow New Zealander [Tongan-born but Auckland-residing] Bad Luck Fale hasn't been seen since 4/4/2021, and Jay White has been in America the last few months.) Also returning to action is Young Lion Yuto Nakashima, who was seen during G1 Climax doing ring attendant duty. Nakashima will be basically re-debuting beginning the 10/31/2021 show in Fukushima against fellow trainee Ryohei Oiwa. Nakashima had his formal debut on 2/14/2021 against Yuya Uemura, but dislocated his left elbow less than thirty seconds into the match. Hopefully this one will go better for him.
As for Power Struggle itself, we sorta knew what was to come. Zack Sabre Jr. beat Shingo Takagi during G1 Climax, so he challenges for the IWGP World Heavyweight title. (So did Kota Ibushi, mind, but he's not available right now.) Tama Tonga beat Kazuchika Okada during G1, so Tonga challenges Okada for the challenge rights. Hiroshi Tanahashi takes on KENTA for the IWGP US title. Yano and O-Khan go for the Provisional KOPW2021 trophy. Goto/Ishii/YOSHI-HASHI go for 10 defenses of the NEVER 6-man tag belts against the House of Touture. There is also an IWGP Juniorheavyweight Tag Team challenge during the third night at Korakuen Hall on Tuesday, as Flying Tiger (Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask IV) go after El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru's tag straps, as a preview for Eagles v. Despy for the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title. To be honest I don't see Eagles dropping this before Best Of The Super Juniors, coming up soon, so he should be going into Wrestle Kingdom 16 as champion.

So, uh, yeah. About the other day. I will admit, there were some external circumstances very much coloring my views that day, but it didn't make them feel any less real in retrospect. NJPW is not a barrel of monkeys right now, creatively. But we've been here before. I've talked (a lot) about the second half of 2018 nearly breaking both myself and @damascenocs. These things are cyclical and will have up and down periods. Right now this is very much a down period. I am feeling a lot better the last couple of days, so I'm not running away screaming (yet) but I may be rethinking how I approach this blog very soon, to prevent a total burn-out. Thanks for reading.

So in front of a 1/3 capacity Osaka-Jo Hall, New Japan produced their annual Dominion show, and it was an... interesting show to say the least. The undercard was your standard NJPW show; Yuji Nagata submitted Gabriel Kidd with Nagata Lock II at 9:25 of a fun six man opener. Hiromu lead the charge in the next match, looking better than anyone else bar Ishii. His exchanges with Tsuji were really good too, before he submitted the Young Lion with a Boston Crab to end an entertaining 10 minuter. El Desperado pinned Yuya Uemura with Pinche Loco to end another decent six man next. The post match saw Kanemaru put the boots to Master Wato, so that seems to be The Grandmaster’s next feud. They certain don’t have many aspirations for him at this point. Saying that, I suppose every promotion needs their dependable mid-carders. Speaking of which, the inexplicable Yujiro push continued in the next match, as he pinned Goto to end a painfully average match. Okada came out with his neck taped, and I don’t know if he’s selling or what, but he looked really off here. As Goto hit Ushigoroshi on Takahashi, Gedo came out and attacked Okada’s ribs with a wrench outside, taking him out of the match. Goto went for GTR on Yujiro, but Ishimori broke it up with a Lungblower, followed by Bloody Cross, allowing Yujiro to score the pin at 9:42 with Pimp Juice. He then laid Okada out with it in the post match. I understand pickings are slim in this time of pandemic, and they always have decent outings together, but I really do not need to see a Yujiro/Okada programme in 2020. This year has been rough enough.
Things really picked up after intermission as Shingo defended the NEVER Title against long-time rival SHO. This, as expected, was an excellent 20 minute war, with both guys looking great. There were no surprises here; both guys slammed into each other like bulls with hard Lariats, forearms, chops and suplexes. SHO worked over Shingo’s Lariat arm with hard kicks and Jujigatame attempts, but the champion would power out. After a back and forth exchange of Lariats, SHO hits a headkick on Takagi for the double down. A sliding Lariat and Noshigami scores a near fall for Shingo. SHO hits the powerbomb on the knees, and a huge Lariat, but Takagi kicks at one, then SHO scores another great near fall with the deadlift German. A flurry of elbows from the Rampage Dragon leaves SHO open to Made In Japan, which gets a near fall, then the challenger kicks at one from a Pumping Bomber. SHO scores another near fall with a cross arm piledriver, then Takagi turns another Jujigatame into a Death Valley Bomb, hits the draping GTR, then successfully defends the title after hitting Last Of The Dragon at 20:07. This was by far the best thing on the show, and whilst great stuff indeed, the finish was never really in any doubt, as SHO got the win in the NJC, so had to return the favour here because New Japan loves the 50/50 booking. As Shingo celebrated his win, El Desperado attacked and posed with the title. That interesting, at first glance that match doesn’t seem too awe inspiring, but I’m sure they’ll actually have a great match.
The Tag Title match that followed was a really good match, but at 28:43, it was much too long (little did I know). It must also be said, it feels like these teams have been feuding for years, as it started in February, which might as well have been half a decade ago at this point. The champions came out aggressive, attacking the challengers before the bell and hitting duelling pescados, but after the hot start, this tapered off a bit for my liking, as Taichi heeled it up in slo-mo fashion, and began choking Tana with a tag rope or something, as my eyelids grew heavy. This picked up again as Ibushi got a hot tag, flying in with a springboard dropkick, but he was ground to a halt as ZSJ caught him in a knee bar. Ibushi and Taichi exchange hard kicks, culminating in Taichi hitting the Kawada Dangerous High Kick. Ibushi avoids an Axe Bomber, but gets caught in a Stretch Plumb, which Tanahashi breaks up with a Dragon Sleeper. The champions hit their new Golden Blade move to both challengers. As they battled on, Tana tried a Sling Blade on Taichi, but he counters into the Dangerous Backdrop, but Tanahashi reverses it into a Sling Blade. The Ace takes Zack out with Sling Blade, then goes up for the HFF, but Sabre gets the knees up. Taichi takes Ibushi out with the dreaded Iron Fingers From Hell(!!!), but Tana ducks, only to run straight into a Daaaaangerous Backdrop. From there, the challengers destroy Tanahashi’s already destroyed knees, as Taichi holds him and Zack hits numerous Dragon Screws. Tana’s selling here was sublime and the move itself looks tremendous. ZSJ hoists Tanahashi up into the Zack Driver, with Taichi giving a superkick assist, resulting in Zack getting the three count, and new champions are crowned.
Then the main event. There’s an old saying: “Go big or go home”, and Gedo certainly did that here. Look, as much as I don’t really have a problem with the outcome; they need new stars in this time and they aren’t especially spoilt for choice, but this match had some pretty major problems. Not the least that it went on FOREVER and relied entirely on absolute fuckery. At 38 minutes, this was insanely long, and it really didn’t need to be. When Naito won the titles at Wrestle Kingdom, part of me had dreaded his reign, as he just physically isn’t really up to it at this point, and to mask this, I figured his matches would have all kinds of smoke and mirrors. However, both this and the KENTA defence from February had a preposterous amount of interference, to the point it really just takes you out of these matches. Now, EVIL getting the super-push makes sense; he’s a home grown star, and heavyweight to boot, and the LIJ guys are so beloved they really need a believable aggressor for them, but I’m not too sure about how they went about all of this.
EVIL came out with new music and new gear. He’s dropped the guyliner, but is decked out in a leather grass skirt gimmick that I believe should be cast into a dumpster. EVIL lived up to his name by destroying Milano Collection AT’s old EVIL scythe toy gimmick, which caused the commentary megastar to jump the rail, only to be immediately thrown into it. EVIL attacked Naito’s surgically repaired knee (he’s using Naito’s biggest weakness against him, as he knows all about it having been his friend for years), then brought a table into play, which he ultimately gave Naito a knee breaker through off the apron, which looked absolutely no fun whatsoever to take. Then the nonsense started; Jado strolled out with all the urgency of an underwater deep sea diver, as too did Ishimori, who takes Naito out with a springboard. Hiromu sprints out, getting rid of Jado, then hitting the overhead suplex into the corner on Ishimori, then drags both guys to the back. EVIL smashes a chair over the double champs head, then tries the STO, but Naito escapes and hits a swinging reverse Destino for a near fall. Naito then hits Valentia (which really should be his finish, if you ask me), then tries Destino, but EVIL grabs Red Shoes and hits a mule kick lowblow on Naito. At this point, “BUSHI” comes out, cheering Naito on, but then once his back is turned, starts garrotting him with a gimmick, choking him out. EVIL hits the stomp to the balls, then lifts Naito up and hits Everything Is Evil to win both Championships, unceremoniously ending Naito’s double reign, in a major upset to say the least. The Osaka-Jo Hall crowd were stunned at this outcome and I could almost hear wrestling Twitter break.
Hey say what you want about Gedo’s booking, but when he straps the rocket to someone, he doesn’t mess around. In the post match, “BUSHI” unmasked to reveal himself to be veteran Dick Togo(!!!). Hiromu ran them off and cut a fiery promo on EVIL, setting himself up as his first challenger, presumably on the 27th in Nagoya, but who knows? I mean, a lot happened here, and not all of it good. The shenanigans in these matches is starting to get old school TNA level, and although New Japan are in a difficult position, they’re setting up quite a few programmes, though I can’t say all of them are looking especially good to me. There remains a lot to be seen with regards to EVIL on top too. Usually, a young champions first reign isn’t especially long, so I don’t imagine this to be either, and he’ll likely just drop both belts back to Naito at some point. Time will tell on all of this.

Best of the Super Juniors 2019 Day 3 Review
First up, Jonathon Gresham took on TAKA Michinoku. Gresham had broken fingers from his match with Scurll, which I imagine will be his story going forward in the tournament. While it seemed like Gresham would be only a technical guy in the tournament, this match really was proving otherwise. The two exchanged both submissions and strikes throughout the match. Taka went straight for the fingers during the match, which greatly angered both the ref and Gresham. Gresham countered that game plan by working the arms. The two had a really great technical exchange, which culminated in Gresham locking in the octopus hold for the win. Gresham: 2, Taka: 0.
Grade: B. I really like this kind of stuff, and I am into Gresham’s story so far in the tournament. He is definitely an underdog throughout the tournament, and he is not too known for the Japanese crowd, so he is still trying to get over with them. Taka did a lot of work making him look good, and I like how the match turned out.
Next up, Tiger Mask vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru. This was actually one of the matches I was more looking forward to, because I love how Tiger Mask feuds with the people of Suzuki Gun. Tiger Mask started out with a vicious attack before the bell, and that made me smile. Kanemaru, of course, took advantage of the knee injury whenever he could. Tiger Mask really couldn’t get anything started because of the targets on both the knee and the mask. At one point, Tiger Mask was able to drill Kanemaru with a tombstone and a tiger driver, but Kanemaru kicked out. In a similar vein, Kanemaru was able to hit the deep impact for only a 2. Kanemaru was able to lock in the figure four, but Tiger Mask fought out of it and survived. In the finish, Tiger Mask went for a tiger suplex, but Kanemaru fought out and tried to lock in the figure four again, only for Tiger Mask to roll up Kanemaru for the win. Tiger Mask: 4, Kanemaru: 0.
After the match, Kanemaru was able to steal Tiger Mask’s mask. Fun times.
Grade: B. Not as strong as the opener, but still very exciting. I loved his two matches against Suzuki-gun, and in my mind, Tiger Mask has won a victory for this best of the super juniors. He beat his two biggest rivals, and they were exciting. This was a good match, and I could really feel the hate. Kanemaru is really one of the best heels in the company, making a slow match feel exciting.
Then we had Shingo Takagi against Titan. This was a classic speed vs. strength match. Shingo actually had a lot of trouble with Titan’s lucha style. Titan had control for the entire beginning of the match, until he overextended and Takagi dropped him on the top rope. Titan was doing a great job selling Takagi’s strength in the match. At one point, Takagi challenged him to a chopping contest, but he collapsed before they could even start. At another, Titan hit a suicide dive that really cemented my belief that luchadores are the best at them. In an interesting counter to the noshigami, Titan reversed it into almost a sunset flip. Titan went for Titanics, but Takagi escaped almost with ease, then drilled Titan with a noshigami, a pumping bomber and a last of the dragons for the win. Takagi: 4, Titan: 2
Grade: B+. This was a good match. They started off a bit slow, with Titan really trying to work up to this guy who is being treated as the most dangerous in the block. He gave Takagi everything, including his inescapable pinning combination, but Takagi still beat him. Takagi showed some weakness against high speeds in this match, but he was really rolling once he got the momentum.
Then we had Taiji Ishimori against Marty Scurll, Bullet Club vs. former Bullet Club. Commentary played up the fact that Scurll had Brodie king in his corner when Ishimori came out alone. Ishimori was able to go hold for hold with Scurll, which was interesting. he also quickened the pace whenever Scurll had the advantage, showing that Ishimori wasn’t going to challenge Scurll at his game. Scurll tried to work on the arm during the match, but Ishimori normally had a counter for it. Scurll even attempted to get in ishimori’s head, and it actually worked. The both of them became furious and exchanged vicious strikes over and over on each other. At one point, Ishimori drilled Scurll with a spike rana off the top, but Scurll rolled through into a pin for a near fall. The two tried to do a reversing tombstone spot, but when Ishimori tried to reverse it, he lost his balance and ended up hitting the tombstone while falling over. it was an awkward exchange but it actually looked alright. Scurll was able to lock in the crossface chicken wing a little bit, but did not fully lock his fingers, so Ishimori was able to escape. Ishimori locked in his yes lock, but Scurll reversed into his own yes lock, before trying to roll him into chicken wing. In another crazy spot, Scurll hit a package piledriver. Scurll went for the black plague, but Ishimori reversed and hit a high knee, followed by the bloody cross for a near fall. Ishimori: 4, Scurll: 2
Grade: B. I think this was a strong B, but while the good stuff in this match was really good, it also was quite slow between those parts. They had an awesome finishing exchange, and some really good striking contests. No finger break in this match, so Scurll isn’t trying to tell that story for everyone. I really liked this, and I think the best man won.
And in the main event, we had Dragon Lee vs. SHO, a rematch of one of the best tournament matches last year. The two immediately tore into each other with strikes. Although Sho has proved that he has a strong submission game, it was all striking for him in the beginning of this match.. Sho began to work over the arm, softening him up for an armbar later on in the match. Dragon Lee tried to target Sho’s arm as well, although he can’t capitalize as well due to a lack of submissions. At one point in the match, the two were so focused on attacking each other on the outside that they were both nearly counted out. At another, Lee proved my earlier statement wrong by locking in a fujiwara armbar on Sho. In a cool spot, Sho went for a German off the top, but Lee countered and hit the double stomp in the corner. Sho was able to hit the shock arrow at one point, but Lee was able to kick out. Sho then hit a series of crazy strikes and lariats, followed by a lumbar check and then a powerbomb onto the knees for a near fall. Lee was fighting from behind, but he was fighting hard. Lee went for the Desnucadora, but Sho countered into a devastating armbar, but Lee powerbombed out of it. He followed that up with two awesome knees to the face for a near fall, and then hit the Desnucadora for the win. Lee: 2, Sho: 0
Grade: A. Another classic from these guys, absolutely great. They brutalized each other throughout this match. Sho really looks like a star on this tour, and I don’t imagine that that will stop. Lee is looking really good too, but Sho is probably the best part of the tournament. At 0-2, it is looking kinda tough for him, especially with two projected winners, Takagi and Ishimori already pulling to 4 points ahead. But if he keeps putting on matches like this, then I think he will come out as one of the most accomplished men in the tournament.
Overall Grade: B+
Pros: All matches were really good here; good commentary too
Cons: I guess the tombstone botch

16. Do you think you can take us both in?
It started innocently enough. Laying on the couch in your sleep wear consisting of a little cami top and your panties, Naito’s head resting on your thigh as he laid between your leg and the back of the couch. Your hand rested in his hair, idly playing with the strands reading your book as Naito watched the baseball game on the television.
When Shingo Takagi had shown up, you were surprised having been under the impression today was a day for just you and Naito to chill out. Naito hadn’t been surprised, not bothering to move as he invited Shingo to let himself in and pinching your thigh when you scrambled to cover yourself up. Instead you had to greet Shingo from your somewhat compromising position with too much flesh on display and skin fire engine red.
Your blush only spread as Shingo made a slow perusal of you, his lips turning up in a smirk as he met your eyes before making himself comfortable on the sofa that sat kitty-corner to the couch. You bit your lip, waiting for Naito to say something, anything, about his friend’s blatant appraisal, but were only met with silence as the two men returned their attention to the game on the screen.
As they seemed to ignore you, you relaxed focusing on your book and tuning out their chatter about the game. Occasionally your eyes couldn’t help but wander from your page, peeking at Shingo over the rim of the book. Truth be told you were harboring a bit of a crush on the newest member of LIJ. Something about the thick, intense man captured your attention and reminded you in many ways of Naito. The third time you took a look, you quickly averted your eyes as he was staring back at you. Flushing you quickly buried your head in your book and shifted uncomfortably making Naito grumble in complaint.
Despite your best efforts, moments later you again found yourself peeking over at Shingo. He was watching the game this time, and you took advantage of his inattention to take your eyes on a leisurely stroll over his body, admiring the way his jeans clung to his thick thighs and imagining what they would feel like beneath your fingers.
“Your woman keeps staring at me like she wants to fuck me Naito.” Shingo’s amused voice broke your stare and you were aghast to realize you were caught staring yet again. You quickly shook your head in denial as Naito shifted his body to look up at you then over at Shingo before pushing himself up to a sitting position.
“You want to fuck Shingo?” Naito asked.
“No!” I said vehemently, my head shaking violently in denial.
“Then why do you keep staring at him?” He asked. “And don’t deny it. I saw you in the mirror.” His chin jutted out, indicating the mirrored back wall of the television cabinet in which I was clearly visible. I was so used to the thing I had completely forgotten the mirrors were even there.
Caught red handed I could do nothing but shrug sheepishly. My head hanging in shame.
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. “I was just looking. It didn’t mean I want to fuck him.”
Shingo snorted making my head jerk up and I glared at him as he laughed.
“Please. I know when a woman wants me. You were practically undressing me with your eyes.” Shingo said.
“Maybe we should give her what she wants.” Naito mused looking from me to Shingo. “Maybe we should both fuck her.”
I gasped at his crude words, but they had an immediate effect on me, my panties feeling like they were flooding with juices as I pictured being taken by the two virile men at the same time. Naito turned and danced his fingers up my thighs until they came to the apex of my legs, teasing them over my visibly wet mound.
“What do you think baby?” He teased pressing his knuckle against my clit. “Do you think you can take us both in?”
