Not a lot of people talking about the recent reveal from the Nintendo Direct; Shin Megami Tensei 72! Apparently it's a free battle-royale game for Nintendo Switch online users where you compete with 71 other players to survive Shin Megami Tensei 1. Honestly, not what I would've come up with but it might be fun. You can find out more about it here.

Oh boy our first dive into the demons of Wild Arms, starting with Gagison, like Blue Book, a prologue dungeon enemy for both Wild Arms 1 and 2.

GAGISON An extremely obscure demon of supposedly Hebrew lore associated with plague, although I can find no corroborating source on that. It is included in The Book of Abramelin under a list of names of spirits capable of being summoned, but as best as I could see with no additional details for Gagison in particular. Shin Megami Tensei also features Gagyson[sic] so somehow the name seems to be better circulated among weird occult fanboys of 90s Japan than in modern English circles.

FLEURETY sourced from The Grand Grimoire (aka Le Dragon Rouge: "The Red Dragon") where it is supposedly mentioned as one of 6 lesser demons along side NEBIROS who we'll get to in a bit... There's not really any meaningful details about Fleurety from what I can tell, but somehow it seems to be consistently associated with ice powers when it appears in videogames? Not sure if that's a weird coincidence or what. It's also the name of an avant-garde metal band.

UKOBACH sourced from the Dictionnaire infernal, he's depicted carrying a pan full of hot coals. Supposedly a patron of fireworks and fried food. He's another mainstay of SMT, and as you could guess, associated with fire elemental in game terms. Funny enough it shares a model with...

HABORYM, another demon associate with fire, in this case cited in the Ars Goetia as one of the 72 demons of solomon. But in Wild Arms 1 he's just a recolor of....

AMON, a demon included in the ranks of both the Dictionnaire Infernal and the Pseudomonarchia daemonum. In the former he's depicted with a serpentine tail, doglike chest and legs, and giant owl head. I don't know wtf is up with AMON GAMECH in WA3 but it's clearly just a recolor of the AMON from the same game. I cannot make heads or tails of what the addition of "Gamech" is supposed to mean. (it appears to be the name of a street in Cazavet, France?)

STOLAS is a one off monster in WA2 cleverly sharing a model with AMON. STOLAS is actually the basis of the WA2 model, with AMON as the recolor as both are classically depicted as owls. STOLAS is a demon from the Ars Goetia associated with astronomy and depicted as an owl with long legs and a crown upon his head.

NEBIROS is another pull from the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, and one with a wide array of alternate names/titles and spellings one of which is supposedly Cerberus, just straight up taken from Greek superficially in reference to his three heads. For this reason I included the WA2 monster, KERBEROS, which is itself a recolor of...

BALAM, an interesting twisted thing in and of itself. It first appeared in WA1 as "SHAZAM" a confusingly arbitrary substitution on the localization team's behalf. In WA2 he's properly labeled as BALAM and shares a model with KERBEROS as they both have 3 heads. In Alter Code F he actually isn't called SHAZAM but this time is called BALAAM. He appears again in WA5 with the same model as F but the name back to BALAM.

Top Games from the 2020s so far (according to Glitchwave) I like Glitchwave's algorithm since it gives smaller games a fighting chance of visibility if people like them enough. It's not perfect, but it does lead to more varied lists than those that the likes of Metacritic might make. It's still mainly AAA/AA games and indie darlings so there's not too many surprises if you follow multiple gaming sources, but hey, you might find something.Not including remakes since I don't think that's really fair. Coming across old friends wouldn't cause you to discover more about the global mass murderers, an unusual dreaming ability, and the problem of seeing too much, yet Izuku Midoriya found himself in these conditions. The boy is driven by his concealed passion to rescue the innocent despite how illegal it is. With four hours of sleep every night and a hidden power that no one has acknowledged, he manages to complete vigilante duties at midnight. Izuku soon realizes that secrets aren't permanent, tragedies are the future's best friend, and that you should never ever play with fire.

I wouldn't recommend reading this story since I'm rewriting it, building on it and on more important things that I couldn't add at the moment. I feel like it's too rushed since I definitely did rush when I officially began writing. I also feel like I wasn't able to incorporate bigger meanings and ideas that would make this story better. Currently, I am motivated to make this story a lot more built on and understandable. Some parts just felt unneeded. Once I finish planning another fic, I might come back to this or I might finish the other and then come back. Thanks :)

He was holding up a sweater, clearly in the middle of putting it on a hanger when Izuku had barged in. Izuku had been preparing for a lot of possibilities behind the door, but this was not on his list.

Blond, spiky hair, and eyes like fire with a temperament to match. Katsuki Bakugou, undoubtedly.

71. A game you can’t stop talking/thinking about at the moment?

Jurrasic World: Evolution. As it lets me live out my childhood dream of having pet dinos that I can take care of and name (alas the game does not let you give them hats).

And it lets me use my dinos to terrorize innocent tourists! Which is my other childhood dream! 72. Have any guilty pleasure games?

Sailor Moon: The Arcade Game. I adore that game, but man it isn’t a patch on Streets of Rage or Final Fight. It lacks the variety of other Beat ‘em Ups, both in enemy types and moves. The difficulty curve is all over the place and some parts are very obviously designed to suck away all your lives and extract another quarter from you. Unless you are using Jupiter, as her flying kick totally breaks the game.

But it lets me play out the first season of Sailor Moon! And it lets me give Queen Beryl a german suplex! And no other game lets me do that!  73. A game with the best fandom? 

The Persona fandom is pretty cool, mostly as it lets me get really cute art of Chie and Naoto as well as wonderful edits like this:

74. Which game has the best lore?

See, I would say the Shin Megami Tensei series, but that isn’t a single game. It may be nostalgia talking, but I loved the lore of Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Sure, most of it is just lifted right out of the tabletop system, but I really enjoyed how the game delivered it as well as the little bits of environmental storytelling. 

75. Do you focus on main storyline/quest or do sidequests first?

It varies based on the game. It depends a lot on the tone and how the game lays them out. Like in something like Skyrim I do a lot of side-quests as it feels right for the wandering hero to do a lot of random quests. 

But in some games the main quest feels very direct and keeps you so busy you don’t notice half the side-quests.

Recently I played Breath of the Wild and did most of the side stuff as it felt very organic. I would stumble on something and think “I might as well do this, as it is pretty close” only to do it and then instantly find something else to do, and before I knew it, I had done a load of side-quests.

Shin Megami Reincarnation SYNCHRONICITY PROLOGUE (Free game from Atlus)

As a way for Atlus to advertise the upcoming title Shin Megami Tensei DEEP STRANGE JOURNEY on 3DS.

Atlus have developed a free Metroid style platform on PC for free called Shin Megami Reincarnation SYNCHRONICITY PROLOGUE which is available for free to download. However, you only have until December 24, 2017 to download it from Atlus’s website.

As this is a free download expect it to appear on plenty of other sites even after Atlus have removed it from their site. The zip file is 72 meg in total compressed and the game plays and run perfectly, here’s a few screenshots we took of the opening section.

If you haven’t already download this free game now, the website and game are both in Japanese, but here’s a link to the website in google translate for English.

2. First game you played?

I’m not sure. I think it might have been 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue. That game is very cute.

22. If you could turn one game into movie, which would it be?

Oh wow I don’t know. Maybe Final Fantasy 6 would make a good movie?

38. Have you tried a game, hated it, then tried again, and loved it?

I don’t think so? The closest thing I can think of is Shin Megami Tensei 4 because the beginning is really difficult but once you recruit a few demons it gets a lot more fun.

72. Have any guilty pleasure games? 

The Catz and Dogz games for GBA. They’re cute and very nostalgic for me so I replay them every once in a while.

I was dabbling in the occult Waaaaay before I even thought about D&D, because I was 12 and disillusioned with the concept of an all knowing all loving god. Plus “ghost hunt” “haunted documentary” style TV shows made me believe in the legitimacy of actual demonic forces, so I figure, ‘Hey I want in on that’. Bought a Ouija board from toys r us to contact dark forces, got nothing. years later I went and did some research, and was way into but disappointed by actual satanism’s realistic Grounded world view. Coincidentally also got way into Shin Megami Tensei, which was an rpg where you summon demons and angels and stuff, all the monsters are based on real myths. So I learn about the goetia from this game. Which is a real book written by Alister Crowley with 72 demons and instructions on how to summon them. So I was like FINALLY progress! (Re-Reading the instructions as an adult it’s very clear the dudes who wrote this were just imbibing some kind of drug and using ritual to force specific hallucinations I.e “Demons” the book straight up says this.) And I learned that the only results people had seen with summoning demons was like after months to years of meditating and visualization. And I’m like 15 at this point so I’m like fuck this shit, I want immediate verifiable results.

So I went to college three years later and this guy is like “wanna be in a D&D group” and I’m like “yeah that sounds cool.”

probably Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. It didn’t sell well over here, I don’t think. 

63. What’s a game that has inspired you?

Hotline Miami, probably. I was in love with that game’s aesthetic and it got me to listen to a number of the artists in that game. It really gets me pumped whenever I think about it.

72. Have any guilty pleasure games?

As the years go by, Skyrim becomes more and more of a guilty pleasure, since I know I shouldn’t be spending as much time in it as I do. People are getting more and more angry with Bethesda following the disappointment of Fallout 4 and continuous re-releases of Skyrim, so it becomes more and more embarrassing for me to admit that I’ve got 450+ hours in it and I still play.

74. Which game has the best lore?

I want to say Zelda, because I’m so invested, but even I can’t defend some of the bullshit that Nintendo shoves into it without rhyme or reason.

So probably The Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, and to a lesser extent Fallout. I loooove love love the sci-fi weirdness in the fantasy-centric Elder Scrolls so much, as well as the mysterious world of Dishonored. 

Fallout is strangely hilarious; I can’t get over the fact that the US annexed Canada.
