same anon from before, just finished skip to loafer. I'm enjoying it, but it's kind of hard to explain why? like I know that the story is saying things and I can tell it's well written but I don't think I'd be able to explain or tell you exactly what those things are (that post about adult literacy being low is unfortunately true) so could you say what exactly it is that you like about it? also, shima kun is my type so that's fun. but I do think the friendships are nice and it's cool when the author shifts perspective to other characters. sorry for blabbing on

hii nonnie (good morning if it is also morning where you are)!! what I like about skip and loafer is the emphasis it places on platonic love and on the kinds of love that aren’t necessarily romantic. there’s a lot of emphasis on self love and self worth and recognizing yourself as someone worthy of proper love (mitsumi is an especially good example of this, especially with her relationship with shima and particularly when she breaks it off but expresses just how much he matters to her despite that). idk it’s just a good story about understanding that wanting vs being ready are two very different concepts and that one does not always correlate with the other.

I like that it does such justice to it’s character and their internal battles as well. egashira is a particularly interesting character and thought I don’t agree with the philosophy behind her “I got pretty sentiment”, it is something common among young women and that thought process is actually worked back as her relationship to Mitsumi and the other girls progresses. it’s just… I’m very fond of it. there’s so much more that I like about it, but this is what comes off the top of my head.

I just rly love coming of age stories and skip and loafer does that really really well, especially because romance exists in it, but it doesn’t feel like the core message (instead, friendship does).
