Storytime.

When High School Musical first came out it bypassed me completely, I had never heard of it and had no idea what anyone meant when they referenced it.

That halloween a young girl, maybe 12, trick-or-treated my door in the (I REALIZE NOW) iconic blue sparkly dress. I asked what she was dresses as and she said "Sharpay."

My father was a professional dog trainer and I had more dog friends than human friends so I thought she was saying Sharpei.

"So...a dog?"

"Sharpay isn't a dog."

"A Sharpei is definitely a dog, I just don't understand your costume."

"Sharpay isn't a dog, she's a girl!"

"Yes it IS a dog and also I'm out of candy so you know what take this and just go."

And that is how I have an instant cuppanoodles to a very confused preteen. I didn't even realize I was probably being an asshole until years later when I saw a picture of the character.

I played Sharpay in my school’s production of High School Musical (I’m a 6ft tall guy) and I shared the part with this girl who looked nothing like Sharpay either. Instead of having one of us play Sharpay the first night and the other one play it the following night, the first person would run off in the middle of the scene and the other one of us would run on the stage and finish the scene. Also, all the costumes were only in her size.
