Meet Jade Shengxiao!

A rabbit Faunus, Jade is the 4th eldest child of the Shengxiao family, a prominent Faunus family with many ties to the criminal underworld but also runs a clean business doing matchmaking.

She has no semblance but is an outstanding apothecary and herbalist. Her weapon is a large double-headed pestle called Hare Raiser that can fire explosive "mochi".

A note on the zodiac animals, I really just didn't want to pick animals based on the character's ages so I picked based on vibes, don't try and math them out nothing will line up correctly lol. Mori is a Dragon, Amir is a Snake, Akello is a Cow, Raath is a Rat.

Scholars used to use the word loong but its pronunciation is significantly different from the Chinese character "龙". Long is better but still not the same. The aunthentic pronunciation is more like [lɔ:ueng] and it's pinyin is lóng.

Translators use the word dragon merely to facilitate better understanding, but the Chinese "龙" and the Western "dragon" are vastly different, fundamentally distinct, much like two creatures that aren't in the same dimension.

The Chinese 龙lóng is a sacred mythical creature; they are considered holy beings, existing in a dimension above that of mortals. They hold the responsibility of controlling the wind, lightning, thunder, clouds and rain, regulating the weather, and blessing the abundance of crops. The copulation of 龙lóng with nine other creatures gave birth to various divine beasts, each bearing some characteristics of the 龙lóng, but the true 龙lóng is regarded as the purest and most noble of all.

In China, many people claim to have seen lóng, with plenty of folk records both before and after the founding of the People's Republic. In the internet era, there are also many videos of lóng. One of the most famous is footage taken by a college student on her dormitory balcony on a cloudy day, where a lóng appears in the thunderclouds and then turn its head to gaze the girl. Another notable incident is the CCTV live broadcast of the Gaoyou Lake lóng water spout event (interestingly, CCTV later edited the live footage, changing the scene of a real lóng spiraling and disappearing in a flash to show three ridiculous birds that didn’t follow the rules of perspective). I think the dormitory and Gaoyou Lake videos are real like they're truely lóng (the dorm one is especially striking because it looks exactly like the watery ink long on ancient Chinese paintings, with an extraordinary and otherworldly vibe, exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression). Other real videos show that lóng can fly at incredibly high speeds, like lightning. Folk culture says lóng can switch between physical and ethereal forms at will, which is why they can move so fast. There are also many fake videos to get clicks online, so one gets to use their own judgment. It’s widely believed that lóng appeared as early as the creation of the world, and they made a pact with the ancestors of Chinese people and have been protecting the 'Celestial Realm and Divine Land of Huaxia'华夏神州 ever since. In the unique Chinese twelve shengxiao生肖 culture, lóng is the only mythical creature—the other eleven are common animals. Some scholars think that when shengxiao was created, many people had actually seen lóng and accepted that they're real, which is why it became one of the twelve shengxiao.

did you think i had too many fantrolls? because you were right, but not for the reasons you thought. i made an entire series of background fantrolls based on the chinese zodiac (plus cat). they’re generally less fleshed out than the planetary fantrolls. because i had to omit tyrian and there are 13 of them, they doubled up in a couple of places (bronze and gold), so i ran them low and high in their respective castes.

half are male, half are female, and cat is enby. cat is the one who got left out of the zodiac. as the story goes, rat tricked cat into missing the banquet that would determine the order in which the animals would appear on the zodiac. rat got first. this is why cat and rat are kismeses. ox is rat’s moirail because in the story, rat rode on ox’s back to get to the banquet first. (he tricked ox / ox didn’t even notice, but whatever, inspiration is inspiration.)

our story takes place pre-limeblood cull. in our fanon, lime blood is what makes sopor, and after the whole debacle limebloods were kept back in the grubbing caves to be bled for the slime supply. goat, a limeblood, has extra good shooshing abilities and makes a great moirail for the rooster who has shitty daymares and can’t control his psionics or his yelling.

tiger and dragon are trainers at bootcamp and have a heated kismesissitude. tiger in particular is an incredibly strict and demanding trainer. everyone lives in fear and awe of her. she’s the main reason any of the bootcamp kids behave at all.

Game of Restriction, Sheng Xiao

People are learnt to constraint themselves with formulas ever since the ancient Greek started to use geometries to record their lives. Thus, the revolution of humankinds is seemed to move towards a more organized era. Art is commonly seen as the most subjective object by people, however, I see Art itself as the “game of restriction” that it is the contradiction consisted with both rational and perceptual laws. Therefore, lines, geometries are frequently used in my art pieces in order to create the sense of “restricted aesthetic”. Such feeling has passed myself into a restricted world --- where I could continuingly search for freedom, and I believe such phenomenon is the reaction to the objective world by all humankinds. I also insist that nothing should be added nor removed while translating this phenomenon into visual languages. These moments are not created by anyone, but indeed, they are both naturally formulated and authentically captured from the deepest part of myself.
