Meet Jade Shengxiao!
Tumblr media
A rabbit Faunus, Jade is the 4th eldest child of the Shengxiao family, a prominent Faunus family with many ties to the criminal underworld but also runs a clean business doing matchmaking.
She has no semblance but is an outstanding apothecary and herbalist. Her weapon is a large double-headed pestle called Hare Raiser that can fire explosive "mochi".
Fun-fact: Her weapon is more than just having a punny name.

MK smiles fondly as his mentor ruffles his hair. He might not think of Monkey King as his dad, but he still definitely had a cool uncle kind of vibe MK could get behind.
...He'd heard the story from Mr. Tang. He asked the scholar about it after he met Macaque for the first time. MK was told the story about the Four Celestial Primates, just like Monkey King.
Shí hóu is how Monkey King's name ended. MK also knows Macaque's name is also Mihou.
A distant memory in the back of his mind, full of clay figures gives him the name Ni'hou. But he knows there isn't a Clay Monkey in the original legend. And yet the name won't leave his head. It's a name he knows, a name he suspects to be-
Tumblr media
"-Hey, so uh... so you got this awesome found family and all, but have you ever, you know, wished you had a biological one? Knew who created you in the first place and WHY they did it? Who gave you the name they did before you changed it to Monkey King? You ever ask those kind of questions?"
void-multimuse:
Tumblr media
“….heh, yeah I guess. You know me, I’m head lightening-the-mood guy!” MK chuckles at the Monkey King’s joke, shoving his hands in his pockets and forcing a smile.
It drops after a moment, MK taking in his mentor’s looks for a moment before something he wants to ask crosses his mind. He doesn’t like talking about his past too much, preferring to live in the moment, but…
Tumblr media
“Hey… Monkey King. You’re like… a stone monkey, right?” He starts slowly, trying to figure out how to word this.
“Did you… ever have people you’d call your family, even if they weren’t actually related to you?”
Tumblr media
“Hee, best one I know to brighten things up.”
Reaching out to playfully ruffle his student’s hair. Even with the playful back and forth joking, it was clear to the golden simian that something was on his kid’s mind. Didn’t take being the Intelligent Stone Monkey to see that MK was going through some crisis — and who could fault him? With everything that he had and was going through, it would be asinine if he hadn’t.
And there it was, the young man spilling what had been rattling around in his skull — what had been causing his worries. He should’ve know it would have something to do with that.
“Yeah, Shí Hóu the Intelligent Stone Monkey.”
Tumblr media
“And plenty…the troop, the Fraternal Brotherhood, the Pilgrims…just to name a few. Just because we weren’t blood didn’t mean I didn’t consider them my family, they all were and will always be.”

cloud, i was staring like a crazy person at raath’s character picture (he’s so fine. god i want him carnally), and i noticed next to everyone’s signs there are a few symbols — i was mainly asking about the emoji’s? both mori and amir have the flame one, but akello and raath’s are different
was it a stylistic choice or does it mean something and i’m crazy ?? much love you’re the best xoxoxo
KISSES
On the profile cards, those symbols are their zodiac sign, their Chinese/shengxiao zodiac animal, and what element I associate them most with. Mori and Amir are fire, Akello is earth, and Raath is a lighting bolt for like Air but Violent.
A note on the zodiac animals, I really just didn't want to pick animals based on the character's ages so I picked based on vibes, don't try and math them out nothing will line up correctly lol. Mori is a Dragon, Amir is a Snake, Akello is a Cow, Raath is a Rat.

Celestial Primate ! MK
[One of the Alternate Universes that can be requested for people who like alt-first meetings!]
Tumblr media
tldr; What if MK was born in his demon form and never met Sun Wukong or trained under him.
(Kinda half-headcanon on MK's origins, half-what if scenario.)
His Celestial Primate name is Zodiac Clay Monkey /Shengxiao Ni'hou although I don't know any chinese so it is up to be changed, I wanted to keep the four character naming scheme the other Celestial Primates have.
He still answers to MK, as it is his preferred name, but Celestial Primates are kind of a big deal, and suddenly finding out a fifth one has been living among those the mortal realm is also, kind of a big deal.
MK hasn't been properly trained, nor does he have Monkey King's staff, unless someone goads him into picking it up and releasing DBK. He fights a bit more feral, tooth and nail, and uses his electric and technomancy powers to do most of his scrapping, but he's not one to pick fights.
He wants to be a regular noodle delivery boy for his Dadsy like in canon, but its kind of hard when your one of only five of your kind and people keep giving you weird looks or trying to kidnap you and drain your power.
Shengxiao was carved using clay from Flower Fruit Mountain, with fragments of Sun Wukong's stone mixed into the mud, along with other creatures based on the Zodiac and other constellations like Ursa Major. Shengxiao is the only figure to come to life. This gives him access to the same powers as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, though they're mostly dormant.
Before he was finished being created, the celestial realm attempted to destroy him, causing him to be incomplete and fractured spiritually. This storm also knocked him off Flower Fruit Mountain and sent him to the mainland, where Pigsy took the still underdeveloped monkey demon in and raised him as his own.

Pearl of the letter
I don't know if this makes sense to say but writing letters is the miracle of my life. When I was a small boy they set me aside in a room to write again and again the letter a which I had difficulty writing the single storey style circle and bar the simple style I learned when I was older that the letter contains the secret shape of a bull with horns the single storey circle is the cow's round head the the straight bar is the width of the cow's horn, but also the double storey a the one you can see here that is the bull too the bull's horns are uneven the long right horn and the broken left the double story a is a rough cow wounded or deformed I was never able to write the first kind of a to my satisfaction it make me upset to write it so badly and I clumsily tried to write the other a the wounded a for the better part of ten years my writing in that time wears its effort the first lines carry the double storey the later lines when the sloppy tired hand and tired mind collide it fell back toward a third a the compromise in those years the cursive a but a wormed out apple rot the cow is fled all the way from that kind of a I think now that it must have been a small fate to confront the letter a because I am a taurus by zodiac and cow by shengxiao I don't think i'm doing a good job explaining the point is that the writing down more than anything the words of it might have said is a miracle to me and everything I do I do to sit as long as I can within the pearl of the letter.

You can use this website’s calculator! It’s more precise than a chart and it uses the Lunar, not Gregorian, calendar. It should also have your year! https://www.travelchinaguide.com/intro/social_customs/zodiac/

since chinese new year is next month (Feb 10th) I figured I’d do a poll like this— it also indicates a tumblr age demographic so that’s always interesting

You've poated Jade corn ornaments twice now (maybe more, and I've missed it). Why are they a thing? They seem to be really well done, and I had always viewed Jade as being a gem with cultural significance.

During the Ming and Qing dynasties in China it was popular to carve jade into vegetable- or fruit-shaped ornaments, the most famous artwork being the 翠玉白菜Jadeite Cabbage and 东坡肉形石Dongpo Meat-shaped Stone, 白菜baicai/cabbage is a common carving subject because of its resonance with '菜cài=财cái=wealth' in the Chinese context. Chinese call these ornaments 文玩wenwan in general, meaning fine collectible traditional handicrafts, especially suitable for playing and appreciating in the hand. I feel like the contemporary jade or other gemstone ornaments continues this tradition with further innovation. Young people prefer ornaments made in richer mineral materials and brighter colors (light colors are more popular), and the themes are also diverse, not limited to traditional ones. I guess in young peoples' aesthetic, the jade corn is lovely in shape and roasted corn is a popular street food in china. Other contemporary pieces that young people like to collect include various other shapes, such as jade rabbits, 貔貅pixiu(mythical creature that brings fortune and wards off evil), 龙long(chinese dragon),  calabash, grape, fish, butterfly, crabs, flowers, guanyin, metteyya, the twelve shengxiao, and so on, some more traditional, some more contemporary. It's quite fun.
In addition, the Chinese believe that 玉yù/jade is spiritual(the Chinese word 玉yù actually refers to more than just jade, it can refer to jade-like stones in general but let's put it this way), so the Chinese have the habit of "nurturing jade", meaning that if you wear and play with your jade jewellery/ornaments by hand for a long time (the act of playing with it is called "盘pán"), it will become smoother and accumulate more lustre, bringing you a good energy field in daily life, thus you will have more luck. The Chinese also consider that if the jade ornament has been 开光kāi guāng (blessed by eminent 道士daoshi/daoist priest or blessed by eminent bhiksu or bhikkhunī/buddhist monks or nuns, usually with ceremonial process of chantting/intoning incantations), they will also help to protect you from mishaps and even disasters. Many Chinese women have the habit of wearing jade bracelets or red string weaved jade ornaments (jade bracelets are the type of smooth circular or beads bracelets).

8 Fun Facts About Chinese New Year That You Should Know! . Chinese New Year, the happiest holiday season in China, and is full of fun activities. People seem to compete with each other in doing New Year shopping, decorating their own houses, and preparing plenty of festival food. During the half month’s celebration, there is much interesting trivia and we select the top 8 fun facts that may inspire you. 🏮 1. Every year is represented by a zodiac animal. Chinese zodiac, also called Shengxiao (生肖), is like western zodiac in some way. One of the fun facts about Chinese New Year is that every year is represented by a zodiac animal and it is for the entire year. Chinese zodiacs are based on a 12-year cycle and there are 12 zodiacs in total, which include Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. In Chinese culture, the zodiacs play an important role and they are closely related with people’s characteristics, career, health and love relationship. At present, people are more likely to regard the zodiac animal as a kind of mascot, which can bring good fortune in the New Year. 🏮 2. Hide a lucky coin inside a dumpling Eating dumplings is one of the most typical customs on the New Year's Eve, especially for people in north China. All the family members reuniting together to have a dumpling feast is undoubtedly one of the happiest things of the day. An interesting fact is that people will hide a lucky coin or several coins in the process of making dumplings. The coin represents luck and wealth. When eating dumplings, the person who get the dumplings with lucky coins are believed to get the best luck in the next year. 🏮 3. “Fu”character pasted upside down The Chinese character “Fu” (福) appears in different occasions very frequently during the Chinese New Year and it is always written on a piece of red diamond-shaped paper. “Fu” means good fortune in Chinese. Before the Chinese New Year, every family pastes the “Fu” on the doors, windows or walls. If you look carefully, you can find a fun fact that most of the “Fu” are pasted upside down. That’s because in Chinese, the words for “upside down” ⬇️ #red #travel (at Страна Любви и Счастья) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn5_cMsq-eR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
