End of Evangelion is going back to theatres first time in forever so I have to reshare some Asuka photos. Evangelion means so much to me, EoE is my favorite movie. I don’t know many people irl that like it at all so making an Asuka doll was important for me.

Fun fact, my first two dolls were a Sheepy homecast (that became Lorelei) and this parabox head (Luna) that became Asuka. She’s had two faceups. Boy that first one was bad, but when I did this one after wiping the first I was motivated to continue trying to paint my dolls.

Asuka is on a obitsu vinyl doll now, but if this picture she’s on a mystic kids 1/4 body!

The Illusion of Living: The Timing of Sammy’s Hiring Is Weird

“Sammy and Henry have NEVER MET” is a bit of a bombshell, and this revelation doesn’t just joss my own headcanons, it actually creates a bit of weirdness. Is Joey lying about the date he hired Sammy? Dates are an odd thing to fudge because people could surely check the dates these things happened and notice that he’s a year off, and it seems like a discrepancy Nathan would catch, BUT HONESTLY, if Sammy and Henry had any positive interactions, it’s... not out of character for Joey to have wanted to retroactively remove Henry’s influence on his new obsession.

Sammy Recognises Henry

This is the most obvious discrepancy, and probably the reason most of us assumed the two worked together at some point -- if Sammy recognises Henry, he must’ve met him before? Joey doesn’t seem like the type to have a FRAMED PICTURE OF HENRY STEIN on the wall, and a random photo doesn’t seem like a memory that would stick in Prophet Sammy’s ink-addled mind anyway (though Sammy has demonstrated he’s got a very good memory for faces).

You can admittedly explain this one as Sammy just, realising he’s in a loop and he’s done this before; it’s less cool than Sammy actually recognising Henry as a person, but could explain why Henry has little reaction to Sammy.

Sheep Songs was produced while Henry still worked there

Really? You guys are telling me that Mr. Sheep Sheep Sheep Lawrence himself had no hand in Sheep Songs? HE SAID HE WROTE A SHEEPY SONG ON TWITTER, YOU CAN’T FOOL ME, and there’s Sheep Songs posters everywhere in the Sammy-branded parts of the studio.

That said, Sheep Songs was produced in 1929, which is still too early even if Joey’s fudging Sammy’s hiring by a year. And this one would be VERY hard to lie about -- if the original release of Sheep Songs had music, you can’t just retroactively claim it didn’t. Best guess of an alternate explanation for Sammy’s attachment to sheep-related tunes is a suggestion Boo had, that he might’ve written new music for the older toons when they were re-released during the war. It’s also possible there were other, later cartoons about sheep that we just don’t know about - after all, Sammy says there’s four cartoons in progress that need music in his 1935 audio log, but we only have records of two toons that year.

Henry created Alice Angel

When Sammy asks about it, Joey assures him they’ve got a female character in the works, but then tells us that actually he was sort of fudging; they didn’t have a design or know anything about her yet. But in DCTL, Dot and Norman affirm that Henry was the one who created Alice Angel -- so not only did he create her, but there was enough evidence to point to him as her creator that Norman and Dot had separately managed to snoop it out (and I trust their info).

It might be that Joey’s lying about his thought process here, that he absolutely had the design for Alice Angel and is only saying this to make it look like Henry couldn’t have designed her, or it’s possible he really had no ideas, and just, raided Henry’s old drawings immediately after having this conversation, but... what if they really didn’t have a design, because Henry hadn’t designed her yet...?

Some of Joey’s dates are a year off of reality

@inkyvendingmachine GETS FULL CREDIT FOR CATCHING THIS ONE, he was jotting down notes on the Sammy chapter for me because he’s a treasure and a delight, and noticed that the party Joey claims to have met Sammy at was “the opening night party for Ira Gershwin’s Girl Crazy” the evening before his 30th birthday -- which, the opening night for Girl Crazy IRL was October 14, 1930. For one, this would make Joey Drew a Libra, but also, this is noticeably not 1931, the year he claims to have hired Sammy. Then he mentions “ You would have never known the stock market crashed one year before,” when the famous Stock Market Crash of 1929 is, uh, not one year before 1931. But the birthday comment means this is intentional; he didn’t just get the year wrong. It really seems..... TOO DIRECT to not be a deliberate clue that something’s fishy about Joey’s dates?

I really want to believe that Joey’s story about the hiring of Sammy and Jack is not too terribly fudged (probably something people say about a lot of Joey’s stories), because they are both great and it’s our very first interaction between Sammy and Jack and I don’t want to throw it in the garbage unlike Sammy I guess. Joey portrays Sammy as being a step ahead of him constantly, which would be odd for him to invent. But for SOME REASON, he seems to want to place it in the wrong year...
